A podcast dedicated to Geek Media. Hosts @RyanFerguson83 and @adultonsetnerd talk about movies and comics and movies and comics. And stuff.
Our decidedly non-Arthurian review begins at 36:08 (no spoilers) and continues at 1:01:07 (spoilers).
It's on Netflix. Carla Gugino is in it. That's all you need to know.
It had been 741 days since we last reviewed a Marvel movie, and it took us an additional 21:10 to actually get down to business. Enjoy, true believers!
Jon switches places with Ryan and becomes "that guy." Basically, if you like over-long banter before anything relevant is discussed, this is your episode. Review begins at 38:17, spoilers at 59:57.
We won't be surprised if you have never heard of this movie from 2011, but you should know that there's a storm coming.
I threatened to set this episode on fire. Instead, I just took two weeks to edit it. I'm not even sorry.
Ryan and Jon get into a fairly serious conversation about whether or not people have lost their damn minds for the first thirty minutes before actually, you know, talking about the movie. Apologies...
Don't adjust your televisions or your streaming devices. That's how Zack Snyder intended for it to look for some reason.
Angie doesn't have time for a full episode description!
It's Damage Control Podcast After Dark, babayyyyyy! Um...If you fast-forward to the 30 minute mark, you will reach the point where we begin the review but you will miss so much.
19:33 - I Need Better Friends (feat. Russell) 44:20 - Spoiler-Free Review of Warrior 1:24:49 - *SPOILERS*
It's finally here...the #SnyderCut! We didn't actually introduce the movie until the 36:42 mark because Ryan had to give us a pretty serious update. But if you don't care about him, you can just skip past all of that. Also, Ryan just wants to watch the world burn and decided to spoil the movie without warning. *SPOILERS THROUGHOUT*
Heads up: It takes us until the 37:32 mark to actually start the review, and the thing that we spent most of the time talking about before that now feels like old news. Enjoy!
Finally, a decent movie around here...
This one is coming out a little late (what else is new?), so we don't discuss Episode 6. Don't worry, we'll circle back around once the season is over. 27:19 - State of the MCU in 2021 1:01:49 - Spoiler-Free Review 1:24:40 - SPOILERS!
Episode 205: Review - The Little Things by Jon & Ryan
This episode is late enough as it is, I don't have time to say much more. Oh, except...Sorry for the depressing opening 20 minutes, I guess...
New year, new us, and the start of another review series that we will inevitably lose track of. 19:18 - Picking our Eleven from 2011 54:23 - Review of Green Lantern
Notoriously hyper-verbal, that's what we are. 23:23 - Top-Five Showdown Pixar Movies 56:21 - Spoiler-Free Review of Soul 1:28:17 - SPOILERS!
If you didn't initially like Wonder Woman 1984, Ryan might have a solution for you. Review starts at 18:56, spoilers at 56:49.
This was a big one for us as we celebrated the occasion of our 200th episode, so there is a lot of self-admiration going on for the first half or so. We don't start talking about Tenet until 48:25, but the stuff that comes before it is probably more fun. Here's to 200 more! [Jon: Not a chance in hell...]
We actually did it. We completed our Ten from 2010 series! Check out our review of Ben Affleck's The Town. It's wicked smaht.
25:05 - The Book of Eli (no spoilers) 55:44 - True Grit (no spoilers) 1:17:57 - SPOILERS!
This has nothing to do with Kirk Cameron. Nothing.
How do you pronounce "eschew," hmm?
We have not given up the ghost just yet on our Ten from 2010 series. Maybe soon. Stay tuned!
Episode 194: Review - The Haunting of Bly Manor by Jon & Ryan
I did not love this one...
I'm uploading this right before I go on vacation, so don't expect much from me. We discuss peanut butter again. Also, Shutter Island. Just a quick heads-up to our listeners, we might be turning this into a Robin Bartlett (look her up) career retrospective podcast. Stay tuned...
"In times of crisis, this wise build bridges while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe." -King T'Challa, as portrayed by Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)
This episode is coming out much later than it should have and it's all Ryan's fault. We are Sex Bob-Omb, 1-2-3-4!
We may have gotten stuck in a time loop along the way, but we finally reviewed Palm Springs (available on Hulu)starring Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, and the transcendental J.K. Simmons. Spoiler warning: Ned Ryerson does not make an appearance. We were disappointed too.
Coming up with something to say here is 40% of the reason I take so long to post new content. In this week's episode, we discuss Netflix's latest cinematic success, The Old Guard, featuring preeminent action heroine Charlize Theron. Has she finally knocked ANGELA JOLIE off the top of action movie mountain?!?
"I'm actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone that I think embodies hip-hop: Treasury secretary, Alexander Hamilton." -Lin-Manuel Miranda (2009)
It took Jon a very long time to edit and publish this episode. He may or may not be suffering from quarantine malaise. That being said, if Ryan doesn't send Jon a text with the word "cantaloupe" within the next five days of this episode being posted, he will owe Jon $50.
In which Ryan talks about how the smell of his burning meat doesn't bother him, also Christopher Nolan's Inception.
Demolition Man is having itself a day on the internet, and it feels like we're slightly late to the party. To be fair, we recorded this episode over a week ago but Jon took forever to edit and upload it because he "hit a wall." We'll take that at face value and not translate it into what we know it to mean...whiskey. Stay safe, everyone!
Do you remember when we had sports?
Episode 181: #SaferAtHome Review - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) by Jon & Ryan
After two years of Ryan insisting, Jon finally watched it.
We thought we would provide a communal experience of some kind while we're all (hopefully) indoors avoiding coronavirus, so we reviewed a movie on Netflix called 3022. It was Jon's call. It was a bad call. BUT the movie does feature Miranda Cosgrove, best known for her time as the title character on the Nickelodeon hit television show iCarly, a show that two men now in their mid-30s have an odd appreciation for. Watch this crappy movie (because what else do you have to do?) and then come back for our spirited review and iCarly tangents.
Soooooo...We recorded this episode over a week ago, but someone (definitely not Jon) kind of forgot to edit and upload it. I mean, I don't know if you've been paying attention to the news, but a lot has happened since then. Speaking of, we recorded this before current events took a turn for the worse, so someone (definitely not Jon) may have made a few too many coronavirus jokes. Also, we dedicated a few minutes to picking the movies we plan to review later this month, but two out of three have had their releases postponed. So...uh...stay tuned for something else from us, I guess. Something.
Ryan, if you're reading this, you are THE WORST.
Episode 176: Review - Untitled Harley Quinn Movie by Jon & Ryan
In this week's episode, we kick off Ryan's idea for a side project where we will talk about ten standout films from 2010. That was ten years ago. Who knew? Oh, and in case you have no time for inane chatter about generational differences and customer service, our discussion of The Social Network begins at 20:46.
22:24 - Rapid-ish Fire Round-Up 1:26:43 - Format Change!
We're back. It's super long. There is some clicking, but I swear it gets better. Sorry. Who's still listening? Tweet us @DamConPod.
8:49 - Merry Christmas, Jaime! 18:48 - Machete Star Wars 33:15 - Spoiler-Free Review of The Rise of Skywalker 58:20 - *SPOILERS*
