June is officially Baby Month here at Large Marge Sent Us as we prepare to welcome Sweetie Jr. into the club oh so soon! So to start off we watched Father of the Bride Part II, probably one of our favorite baby centric movies and really a near perfect sequel. All the favs from the original come back, Annie is married and pregnant and surprise, Nina, mother of the bride is too! This is A LOT for poor George Banks to handle as he oscillates between guy going through a mid life crisis because he's about to be a grandfather and guy going through a crisis because he's about to be a dad thrice over at the age of 56. Whew, poor guy. We'll talk about some of the Hollywoodisms surrounded pregnancy, labor and delivery, how George Banks' level of obsession with his daughter is borderline creeper, and what we think of the name Chloe Dankman for a baby name! Every party has a pooper guys!
On this episode, the ladies take you to the darkest place Janelle could think of: Alaska. Join us as we take a peek into the wilderness and find the things that go bump in the night. Happy Anniversary to The Sweeties! This week marks our fourth anniversary here at Large Marge Sent Us, and while we had planned on doing Cocoon, the streaming gods were against us AGAIN. We had to order the DVD from Japan, so it will be here in a tick, but until then to celebrate our four year (also known as the fruit/flowers anniversary!) we did a mini ep on Salute Your Shorts! Broadcast on Nickelodeon from 1991 to '93, Salute Your Shorts was short lived (haha) but packed a big punch as far as nostalgia goes! Budnick! Donkey Lips! Sponge! It's the classic camp spoof that we were addicted to as kids. We watched a couple of eps and it's still pretty charming today and Zeke the Plumber is still wicked scary! Oh come celebrate this happy milestone and listen to Large Marge Sent Us, the grubby little four year old that she is, today!
Big day in Large Marge Sent Us world ... we've reached 200 episodes! In honor of this gigantic milestone we watched TITANIC! From 1997, and starring everyone's favorite floppy haired hero, Leonardo DiCaprio, Titanic was THE MOVIE of the decade. The world collectively cried when Leo's icicle encrusted dead body sank into the frigid Atlantic, bought the double VHS box set, and belted out My Heart Will Go On for a good solid year there. This movie is hella long but still pretty good albeit stressful to watch. We'll talk about all the to-do around this movie back in the late 90s, why James Cameron is kiiiiiiind of a dick, and all our favorite weepy parts of the film. Thanks again to all our fans keeping us "afloat" for the last 200 episodes! We love ya and couldn't have done it without you!
Art and murder. While the two seem to have no crossover, they have more in common that you think. Join Janelle and Vicky as they explore two cases where the art world and true crime crash right into each other. Colors of the world, spice up your life! Every boy and every girl, spice up your life! If you wannabe a fan of Large Marge Sent Us, you gotta watch Spice World! From 1997, Spice World is a hell of a good bad movie - but let's be honest, this one is for the fans! Following around Mel B aka Scary Spice, Mel C aka Sporty Spice, Emma aka Baby Spice, Victoria aka Posh Spice, and Geri aka Ginger Spice, as they sing songs, dance and do wacky Spice Girls stuff ain't too shabby and while this movie is random and makes no sense at all it's really fun and has a ton of famous people in it! Back in the day (cough cough mid to late 90s) the Spice Girls were, no joke, as big as The Beatles. And rightfully so, as they remain one of the most, if not the most successful girl group of all time. We'll try to choose our Spice Girl name, talk a lot about 90s fashion - eek platform shoes, and Sweety still can't over the weird scene with the aliens. PLUS we bring back the phone a friend segment, and give a ring a ding ding to our pal Izzy, who we consider to be the ultimate Spice Girl fan. GIRL POWER.
You told us you missed our full-length review episodes, so we devoted this week's show to It: Chapter 2. We also brought back Emily from the Large Marge Sent Us podcast to join us for the creepy clown-tastic fun. Enjoy! 18:57 - Spoiler-Free Review 41:49: *SPOILERS*
In our continuing exploration of movies that shaped our childhood, a hat-tip to the Large Marge Sent Us podcast, we turn to the mid-80’s Disney channel staple, Flight of the Navigator (1986). While not exactly a stellar movie, this sci-fi mystery adventure is not the mortifying mess that Ryan feared it would be. And though the Exes might not agree on whether the ship looks like a sleek walnut or an unholy marriage between a cantaloupe and a bike helmet, they do concur that the Alan Silvestri soundtrack is totally cowabunga. Mashed skin-on figs, fraternal role-reversal, and hair inconsistencies out the wazoo this week on Ex Rated Movies!
Today we're bringing you guys another dance centric flick on Large Marge Sent Us, none other than Save the Last Dance, everyone's second favorite Julia Stiles film! From 2001, STLD tells the story of Sarah, a senior in high school from a small town in Illinois. She's auditioning for Julliard when her mother dies in a tragic car accident. So she's forced to move to the mean streets of Chicago and live with her Jazz Dad, Roy and she swears off ballet forever, convinced it was her fault her mother is dead! She starts a new school and meets cool new black friends who teach her the art of hip hop dancing! She decides to try out for Julliard one more time, and this time she's going to nail that audition because she's got street smarts and a hot new boyfriend to give her pep talks from the wings! We were obsessed with this movie when it came out as it's basically made for white girls from the suburbs who want to be cooler than they really are. It has a great soundtrack and a star turn by Kerry Washington in her first movie role as Derrick's sister Chenille. We'll talk about how we think Julia Stiles is maybe not the best actress but we sure do love her movies, our own memories of the tough times of high school, and play some of the songs from the killer sound track for you all. You all be trippin'!
Another crossover podcast episode! At the PRX Podcast Garage, Sweety and Sweetie, the talented and hilarious hosts of Large Marge Sent Us, Daniel Ford, and Sean Tuohy discuss the 1988 tearjerker classic “Beaches.” The gang chats about female friendships (something Daniel and Sean know a ton about), Bette Midler’s fabulousness, John Heard’s sex appeal, and men with perms. To learn more about Large Marge Sent Us, subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, like their Facebook page, or follow them on Twitter and Instagram. Also listen to our first crossover pod, where we talked about “Kindergarten Cop.” Today’s episode is sponsored by Libro.fm and OneRoom.
Taking a cue from the sweeties at the Large Marge Sent Us podcast, this season Matt is cruising down to nostalgia town and examining some movies that shaped his childhood. And since it’s still Schlocktoberfest, he’s keeping it creepy with the Tim Burton classic, Beetlejuice (1988). With top-notch production design, fantastic performances, and a killer score to boot, this movie continues to be a kooky gem that super duper holds up. AFI list comparisons, skeletal carpal tunnel, and the next step in our slow evolution into becoming a game show this week on Hex Rated BOO!vies!
We're keeping it spooky here on Large Marge Sent Us, so that means time to roll out KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, everyone's favorite B horror movie that traumatized you as a child and made you swear off cotton candy for a decade! Let's face it, clowns are scary no matter what. But clowns from outer space that put people into cotton candy pods and then suck your blood out? Terrifying! In the early 90s, they played this gem on TV all the time, and it freaked us out but in a really good way. We'll talk about why clowns were even invented in the first place (not funny, not cute, always scary), how despite this being a bad good movie, the sets and costumes are pretty rad, and which Killer Klown is our favorite of the bunch! Time to make your circus nightmares a reality guys, KILLER KLOWNS!
A baby is destined to destroy an evil queen, and a farmer must lead an epic quest to protect the child in the 1988 fantasy film, Willow. This week, Sweetie and Sweety from the Large Marge Sent Us podcast come by to talk about Ron Howard's (alleged) ginger conspiracy, the one character in this movie with a semi-normal name, and how George Lucas "borrowed" ideas from Star Wars and Indiana Jones when he came up with this story. In the end, we find out if Willow stands the Test of Time. Listen to the Large Marge Sent Us podcast at https://largemargesentus.libsyn.com
Crossover podcast episode! At the PRX Podcast Garage, Emily and Andre Dumas, the talented and hilarious hosts of Large Marge Sent Us, Daniel Ford, and Sean Tuohy discuss the classic 1990s film “Kindergarten Cop.” The gang chats about men with ponytails (blah), sexy, scruffy Arnold (the group is very divided on this), and whether or not it’s a toomah (spoiler, it’s not, so says John Kimble). To learn more about Large Marge Sent Us, subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, like their Facebook page, or follow them on Twitter and Instagram. Today's episode is sponsored by OneRoom and NovelClass.

Guys, we've reached a true turning point for the Large Marge Sent Us podcast. We're covering our first sequel and we couldn't be happier about it! Released in 1989, Ghostbusters 2 proton packed itself into the Sweetie mindset quite early, and while far inferior to Ghostbusters, it still has us rolling in the aisles and loving all the cool ghosty stuff that enchanted us from the first film. Set 5 years after the first film, we're back to NYC, where the Ghostbuster's are down on their luck in a world without a whole lotta ghosts until Vigo the Carpathian comes alive and wants to become a man baby by stealing the soul of poor Dana Barrett's baby. Join us as we talk about what makes a good sequel, how we really sort of hate Dana Barrett, why old fashioned baby carriages are nobody's friend, and if the fan theory that Oscar is the love child of Vinze Clortho and Zuul's, holds water. Plus amazing renditions of Bobby Brown's jam from the soundtrack and Jackie Wilson's iconic, "Higher and Higher"! Theme song performed by Deidre Cullen. Logo designed by Frankie Donlon. In honor of our collaboration with Large Marge Sent us we've changed up the format of our show a bit just for this episode, so look out for some fun special segments!

BIG NEWS guys! Large Marge Sent Us has just hit 50 episodes and The Sweeties couldn't be more proud! In honor of such an amazing milestone, we thought it was time to trot out the movie that Sweetie deems responsible for shaping her childhood.... THE GOONIES. Is there a better movie out there that captures 12 year old hijinks involving: a one eyed pirate, an Italian crime family, and a deformed possibly 40 year old with an unfortunate nickname? And no, this isn't the plot of The Godfather. We laughed, we cried, we argued about whether One Eyed Willy's boody, I mean booby traps would have ever really worked, the truth behind Sloth's deformities, clarify a list of Chunk's bullshit stories, and come up with an idea for a prequel which involves the life of Chester Copperpot (also our next Team Trivia name btw) and how he came to an unfortunate end (or did he???) searching for all that rich stuff. BONUS, we talk to the one, the only Hayley Nickerson (Sweetie's bff) about her love for The Goonies and make her prove if she's really a Goonie with a short quiz. Thanks to our amazing listeners for helping us get to Episode 5-0! We love ya! Theme song performed by Deidre Cullen. Logo designed by Frankie Donlon. Follow us on Twitter @TheSweetieClub and on Instagram @LargeMargeSentUs
Remember in 1990 when Johnny Depp was a 120 pound weakling with scissors for hands who happened to be an excellent dog groomer/hair stylist/ice sculptor and had a crush on Winona Ryder who had strawberry blonde hair and was dating the geek from The Breakfast Club who was now hopped up on roids?!! Well, WE do. I just described the plot of everyone's second favorite Tim Burton Film, Edward Scissorhands! Listen along as the Sweeties discuss all there is to know about this trippy little film including: does Edward have a penis and can he make little scissorhanded babies, how Alan Arkin and Diane Wiest are fucking national treasures, and how Tim Burton used to be great but now he's just okay and we're upset about it. So grab your Colt 45s, tape them to your hands, and listen to Large Marge Sent Us today! Theme song performed by Deidre Cullen. Logo designed by Frankie Donlon. E.T. phone home? More like E.T. you're terrifying and we could never watch this movie because it freaked us the fuck out! Here at Large Marge Sent Us, we were a bit young to appreciate the finer points of this Steven Spielberg classic which came out in 1982 and was the highest grossing movie until another Spielberg blockbuster broke that record (Jurrassic Park!). Tune in as we talk about the great 80s nostalgia that surrounds this film, how much the E.T. death thing freaked us out, how confused were were then (and now!) by this plot, and how we had our own Sweetie E.T. moment when we raised our own beta fish, who preceded to die a couple days later and then came to life and flew back to their spaceship! Just kidding. We buried them in our backyard. Elllliiiiiiiotttttttt.
Nobody leaves this place without singin' the blues--and nobody leaves Large Marge Sent Us without watching Adventures in Babysitting. Not only is it a fantastic movie but it's one of TWO movies about babysitting that Keith Coogan starred in. What are the odds? We've always loved this movie and never hesitate when asked to sing a few bars of 'Babystting Blues'. So grab your Thor costume, your gloves and official Joe Gipp blue leather jacket, it's time to go babysitting!
I know YOU are but what am I? We are Large Marge Sent Us and Pee Wee's Big Adventure is one of our favorite, favorite films so much so that we named our totally awesome podcast after a pivotal character! So buckle up and get ready for a thoughtful yet somewhat silly deep dive into Tim Burton's 1985 masterpiece featuring everyone's favorite man-child, Pee Wee Herman! FYI our intro got cut off so you've been warned. Ack, technical difficulties of your amateur podcaster!
We're taking it back to 1987 this week, with The Chipmunk Adventure, everyone's favorite animated romp that involves unrealistic world travel with unsupervised chipmunk children via hot air balloons! Large Marge Sent Us dives in so get your diamond dolls and high pitched voices ready!
