Ralph and Will Smith ( @GreenLanternsPodcast ) are back to deliver another exciting comic book review, this time diving into Green Lantern #31! They share their thoughts on the latest issue, offering insights for both casual readers and dedicated fans of the green lantern comic review. Get ready for a weekly comic book review that's both informative and entertaining, exploring the depths of the dc comics universe.
As part of the Comic Boom! and Comic Source collaboration, this DC Spotlight for the week of January 28, 2026 finds Jace and Rocky breaking down a packed slate of fourteen DC releases, with discussion opening on the passing and legacy of Sal Buscema before turning to the week's books. DC KO: The Kids Are All Fight Special #1 is examined for its focus on younger heroes and its place as a largely skippable but well-drawn tie-in, while Detective Comics #1105 continues Tom Taylor's "The Courage That Kills" arc with deeper insight into the Lion's origin and Gotham's escalating crisis. Harley Quinn #58 is discussed as the start of a new arc that feels tonally familiar, followed by the Supergirl Next Door Valentine's anthology, which offers mixed results across stories spotlighting Supergirl, Jay Garrick, Poison Ivy, Guy Gardner, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Martian Manhunter, and Green Arrow. Green Lantern #31 features a nostalgic Hal Jordan and Barry Allen team-up that advances Jeremy Adams' larger arc in subtle ways, while Superman #34 pushes Superboy Prime further into moral conflict against the Dark Legion. Absolute Martian Manhunter #8 stands out for its conceptual storytelling and increased narrative momentum, The Flash #29 introduces Dream Girl as a potential crack in Darkseid's Legion, and Harley and Ivy: Love and Crimes #3 explores the early dynamics between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy with a more grounded emotional approach. Justice League Unlimited #15 and Justice League Red #6 wrap major threads involving Neuron, time-displaced heroes, and Red Tornado's reckoning, while Absolute Batman #16 delivers a character-driven underworld journey with Wonder Woman that highlights Bruce Wayne's loyalty and sacrifice. Absolute Flash #11 provides major revelations about the Still Point and the source of Wally West's power, and Absolute Wonder Woman #16 launches the "Season of the Witch" arc with Absolute Zatanna and a reimagined Suicide Squad, setting the stage for one of the week's most consequential confrontations.
Show notes provided by Joe PelusoIn the late Summer of 1996 DC Comics decided to dim the lights byblowing out the Sun! A cosmic force known as The Sun-Eater (first seenway back in Adventure Comics #352 from November 1966!) came calling to snuff out all life on Earth! Chronicled in a weekly event, the storywas entitled "The Final Night".And it sure as heck would've been, ifnot for the timely, last minute intervention of a once great seminalhero who had recently gone rogue. Join hosts James, Chris, and Joe as they "shed light on" (Sorry,Chris, you know--low-hanging fruit.) on a new DC event that taxedEarth's greatest heroes in a race to save the world from becoming apopsicle. All kidding aside, this fast-paced saga had major stakes, major tragedies, and major repercussions for the DCU. Seven days to restart the sun, or all life on Earth perishes.Superman, cut off from solar rays, is weakening by the day. KyleRayner, Earth's only Green Lantern, chucks a "Hail Mary" like BretFarve into space to convince the one and only capable "entity"Parallax (Hal Jordan ) to save the Earth. Lex Luthor is brought in towork with Brainiac 5. And Batman, as usual, multitasks. It's a fun event told in four issues, one special issue, and oneaftermath remembrance issue, with limited tie-ins, that doesn't breakthe banks of loyal DC fans. Also there are some "heavy" discussions onthe meaning of heroes and villains, and loss and redemption, that wethink you will find quite interesting. It's been thirty years sincethis story dropped. No alternate dimensions, maddening multiverses, ortime travel trickery, just a solid story of survival on both the grandand human scale.

This week we head back into the archives to dig into the history of the comic book superteam and find out how the Avengers were created! From DC Comics putting together The Flash, Green Lantern, and their other heroes and creating the Justice Society Of America, to Marvel borrowing the concept and creating Captain America's All Winners Squad during World War II. We'll chart the debut of the Justice League and the Fantastic Four, the rise of Marvel Comics, and how that all led to the creation of The Avengers! Cal and Liam are back with one of the final episodes of Justice League Unlimited that ironically calls back to the distant past and involves the future for Green Lantern and Hawkgirl/Shayera with a review of the season three episode "Ancient History." The hosts discuss the complicated comic origin stories of Hawkman and Hawkgirl and how this story plays into it with the inclusion of the DCAU's own confusing Hawkman origins. Additionally, the Good Brothers speculate on Geoff Johns' credit for teleplay and a story that gets mixed reviews from our hosts. The hosts also talk about the visual integration of the ancient Egypt locale, Shadow Thief's powers and borderline perverted sounding voice and music that calls back to some of Hollywood's most epic soundtracks for movies that took place in a similar period of time and place. All of this plus a sneak peek at next week's trip around the multiverse for a new review and more await you on this week's all new DCAU Review! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast:Become a monthly or one time supporter of the pod at https://buymeacoffee.com/DCAUReviewSubscribe to the pod on Spotify or Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star reviewSubscribe to our new YouTube Channel Support the pod by picking up some merch at our shop https://dcaureview.myspreadshop.comFollow us: Twitter/X @DCAUReview Instagram @DCAUReviewFinal Scores:Plot: Cal: 4/10 – Liam: 6/10Visuals/Animation: Cal: 8/10 – Liam: 10/10Music: Cal: 9/10 – Liam: 10/10Voice Acting: Cal: 10/10 – Liam: 10/10Bonus Point: NoneFinal Tally: Cal: 31/40 – Liam: 36/40**Top Pick

Jace and Rocky break down another Comic Boom! / Comic Source DC Spotlight for the week of January 21, 2026, with only seven single issues on the slate but a massive week for reprints and collected editions—including major Absolute line reprints like Absolute Batman #1 10th printing and Absolute Batman Annual #1 2nd printing, plus facsimiles such as Batman #676 and Superman #75, and a packed shelf of collected editions ranging from Batman: Gotham by Gaslight Compact Comics to DC's Finest: Doom Patrol, Green Lantern by Robert Venditti Omnibus Vol. 2, The Invisibles Compendium, New History of the DCU, Absolute Promethea Vol. 2, Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma, and Young Justice Omnibus Vol. 2. On the single-issue side, Batman/Superman: World's Finest #47 wraps up the Absorbicon chaos with the Joker/Luthor fusion, the world briefly losing knowledge, and a lingering "Fusion" mystery locked away in the Fortress of Solitude; DC KO: Green Lantern – Galactic Slam #1 becomes the week's standout as Jeremy Adams brings Kyle Rayner into WAM's multiversal wrestling spectacle, delivers Omega Bam Man's origin, and ties the concept directly into Darkseid and the DC KO stakes; Titans #31 splits focus between Donna Troy and Arsenal battling Grail on Earth and Nightwing/Raven's Gemworld complications as Terra turns opportunistic; Superman Unlimited #9 launches "Die Laughing" with a new, more hands-on Prankster targeting Perry White and Superman leveraging Clark Kent's reporting to bait the killer into exposing himself, while also planting Mxyzptlk-related seeds; Catwoman #83 continues Selina's Europe-set intrigue with Falcone connections and Court of Owls pressure as the run edges toward a more familiar Gotham-facing direction; Nightwing #134 keeps Dick in the Fifth Dimension facing the Zanni while real-world consequences escalate, including damage that reverberates back to Blüdhaven; and Wonder Woman #29 begins a two-part "The Village" detour to Themyscira with striking Jeff Spokes visuals and Strife's arrival setting the hook for what comes next, before both hosts give their rankings with Galactic Slam taking the top spot.

Jessica Plummer returns for a year-end superhero ethics check-in—recorded late 2025 and released as 2026 gets underway—to unpack what worked, what didn't, and what Marvel and DC's biggest swings revealed about power, responsibility, and heroism. We talk Marvel's post-Endgame sprawl: scattered continuity, delayed payoffs, and what “superhero fatigue” looks like when it's less about quantity and more about momentum. We also dig into standout projects like Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, and why individual entries can succeed even when the larger arc feels unclear. Then we shift to DC's early steps under James Gunn, including why Superman felt like a tonal reset, and what we're watching as 2026 brings Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the upcoming Green Lantern series, and Marvel's road to Doomsday.ResourcesJessica's work: Book Riot • JessicaPlummerWrites.comSword Stone Table: Penguin Random House**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. "Alan Scott: The Green Lantern is a 2023 DC Comics series by writer Tim Sheridan and artist Cian Tormey, focusing on the original Green Lantern in a story about love, fear, and courage, set in the 1940s. The series explores Alan Scott's life as a closeted gay hero, as he is framed by a mysterious killer and hunted by a monstrous Red Lantern, forcing him to confront his past and his secret identity. Do you have a burning Green Lantern question? Join Ralph on this episode of Green Lantern Tuesday Q&A and ask him in the live chat! On this episode we are going to focus on the HBO MAX DC Studio Series Lanterns, starring Aarron Pierre and John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as an older Hal Jordan!
As part of 12 Days of The Comic Source, this Fireside Chat features Jace welcoming back writer Jeremy Adams for an in-depth, free-flowing conversation covering a wide range of current and recent projects alongside broader creative philosophy. Jeremy discusses Aquaman, focusing on redefining Arthur Curry as an avatar-level powerhouse and how DC KO positions him against Hawkman in a tournament setting that highlights his expanded abilities; Green Lantern, detailing long-form planning around the fractured emotional spectrum, Hal Jordan's evolving role, and the reintegration of legacy elements like Jon Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and long-dormant continuity threads; and the digital crossover Flash / Fantastic Four, where Jeremy explains the constraints and opportunities of vertical-format storytelling and character interaction outside heavy continuity. The conversation also touches on multiple DC KO tie-ins, including a Green Lantern wrestling-themed one-shot that expands the Wham mythology, the youth-focused The Kids Are All Fight, which centers Jon Kent guiding younger heroes during a world-ending crisis, and the high-concept DC KO crossover featuring non-DC characters such as Homelander, Vampirella, and Sub-Zero. Jeremy further reflects on the broader DC creative landscape, including Absolute and Next Level initiatives, while sharing insight into continuity stewardship, editorial collaboration, and the balance between ambitious ideas and reader expectations, before closing on a seasonal note as he talks about specific holiday traditions such as winter outings like sledding, revisiting favorite Christmas movies, and enjoying local holiday events and markets with his family as a way to slow down and reconnect during the end-of-year rush.
It's that time of year again for Joe to be let out of his cage and join Rob and Jason for the annual Deadpool Holiday Special. This year, Rob and Jason force Joe to watch a movie with a very thin tie into Deadpool. But that's ok. The plot is pretty thin too. It's 2011's Green Lantern.
Join Ralph as he showcases one of the many creators putting out great monthly Green Lantern stories! On this episode, he is joined by Morgan Hampton, writer of Green Lantern Corps, Cyborg, New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident and more!

Today on The Kristian Harloff Show, we break down one of Marvel's most surprising moves yet as the AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY trailer has officially arrived exclusively in theaters, attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash ahead of its release next week. Why is Marvel keeping this trailer offline, and what does that secrecy suggest about the scale of Doomsday and the growing speculation around Doctor Doom? We also react to the first official Street Fighter trailer and posters, giving fans their clearest look yet at the iconic video game heroes and villains heading to the big screen. Can this finally be the video game adaptation that delivers both fan service and mainstream appeal? On the DC side, the Supergirl teaser trailer introduces the DCU's Woman of Tomorrow, along with our first official look at Jason Momoa as Lobo. We discuss tone, character direction, and how Supergirl fits into James Gunn's larger DCU roadmap. We also examine newly released Supergirl promo art, including the intriguing tagline and creative team comments teasing a more flawed, "imperfect anti-hero" take on the character. Plus, HBO Max has released a new trailer highlighting its 2026 slate, which includes our first look at Lanterns. The footage teases the dynamic between Hal Jordan and his apparent trainee, John Stewart, offering early insight into the tone, mentorship angle, and how the Green Lantern mythos may be positioned within the evolving DCU. All that, plus audience questions and live discussion on today's episode.
A new talk with writer Jeremy Adams — digging into his personal takes on Flash Gordon, Green Lantern, and Aquaman, and what draws him to (and challenges him about) each iconic mythos. They get into how classic pulp energy, cosmic storytelling, and sea-soaked adventure inform his creative instincts, and how those sensibilities show up in his work.Jeremy also breaks down his upcoming animated adaptation of Batman: Knightfall — what he's focusing on, how he's handling Bane's legacy, and what fans can expect from this fresh take on a brutal chapter of the Dark Knight's history.Plus Jeremy shares stories from DC's KO event — what it was like to contribute to a universe-shaking crossover, the narrative choices that mattered most to him, and the behind-the-scenes moments fans haven't heard before. The epic matchup of Aquman Vs Hawkman, and the upcoming, The Kids Are All fight with many of the new sidekick heroes facing eacch other.

Welcome back to The Kristian Karloff Show, where we break down the biggest Marvel and DC news of the week! Today we dive into huge updates from the MCU, DCU, Sony's Spider-Verse, and DC Studios—starting with AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY. Marvel Studios has officially kicked off marketing as Disney+ teases Doctor Doom's long-awaited return with the new FIRST STEPS image. What does this mean for the future of the MCU and Doom's role in the multiverse saga? Next, we jump into LANTERNS, where James Gunn may be bringing two of the most unpopular Green Lantern suits into the DCU. Are these designs really coming back, and how might they play into the new Max series that will help shape the foundation of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters? We also break down a juicy rumor from the Sony side of things: a report claiming the studio wanted the VENOM director to helm SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY—and the surprising reason it didn't happen. What could this have meant for the future of the Spider-Man franchise? And finally, SUPERGIRL adds a key cast member as social media activity suggests the first trailer may be dropping any moment. With "Woman of Tomorrow" officially gearing up, we explore what this new casting means and how soon fans can expect the full reveal. If you're into MCU updates, DC Universe news, superhero casting breakdowns, and Spider-Man franchise rumors, this episode has it all.
