In a tragic turn of events, The Stormy Skies forgot her Stanley Cup at Yoga and cannot have a sip of water until it's returned to her. Sam then recounts some tales of woes from her day job of working with children…but thank goodness none of these children are like Miles because in today's episode of Bly Manor we learn a little more as to why Mile is the way Miles is. Dani tells the children she forgives them for locking her in the closet but admits she doesn't believe their explanation. In a flashback to prep school, Miles becomes increasingly unstable—starting fights and killing small animals—leading to his expulsion. It's implied he got himself expelled on purpose after receiving a letter from Flora that reads, “Come home.” Back in the present, Dani assigns the children chores, giving Hannah and Jamie a much-needed break. When Flora puts on a broken pair of glasses from Dani's belongings, Dani has a panic attack. Miles begins to behave in an unsettlingly mature way around her, making her increasingly uneasy. During a game of hide-and-seek, Dani stumbles upon a photo of Rebecca and her lover—the same ghostly figure she saw on the parapet. The apparition appears again, and as Miles collapses unconscious, the ghost grins ominously at him.
We have officially moved out of the Hill House and are ready to move into Bly Manor. The Haunting of Bly Manor is a gothic horror drama from Mike Flanagan, inspired by the works of Henry James, particularly The Turn of the Screw. Set in the 1980s, the series follows Dani Clayton, an American au pair hired to care for two orphaned children, Flora and Miles, at the eerie Bly Manor. As she settles into the grand yet unsettling estate, Dani discovers that Bly is filled with secrets, tragic histories, and lingering ghosts—both literal and emotional. Episode 1 introduces Dani as she arrives at Bly Manor, eager to start fresh after a mysterious past haunts her. She meets housekeeper Hannah Grose, chef Owen, gardener Jamie, and the peculiar yet charming children, Flora and Miles. While the manor seems idyllic at first, strange occurrences begin—unlocked doors, unsettling reflections, and whispered warnings from Flora to stay inside at night. As the episode unfolds, it becomes clear that something sinister lurks in the shadows, watching and waiting. We also celebrate the Stormy Skies officially getting her doctorate! And Sam complains about a new indie horror movie--Looky Loo

The dragons kick off spooky season with a look at one of the staples of horror - the haunted house. It's so ubiquitous now that haunted house stories are really a sub genre in their own right with their own tropes and conventions. So why do some haunted house stories work while others fall flat? This week Jules and Madeleine present a blueprint on how to build your own haunted house story complete with flickering lights, sordid history and reappearing blood stain. Rattling chains in the attic optional. On the slab: The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Little Stranger and many more. Title music: Ecstasy by Smiling Cynic

Maybe it wasn't just a curse but a part of him that needed understanding and management. The trip to the cabin was a reminder to take care of himself amidst his extraordinary abilities. Back at the hospital, Jake approached his patients with a newfound empathy and patience, grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. The memory of the dark figure still lingered in the back of his mind, but it no longer held the power to paralyze him with fear. Time passed and things fell into a rhythm until one evening at the end of a shift. His phone rang. It was Theo. He was panicked, speaking in short bursts. He wasn't himself. “Jake, where are you? I need you in the ER. Please, it's my brother!”

Director Francis Galluppi's feature film debut, The Last Stop in Yuma County, is a rockin' good time of genre hopping mix of Western, Noir and desert dry humor. While awaiting the arrival of the next fuel truck at a middle-of-Arizona rest stop, a traveling young knife salesman is thrust into a high-stakes hostage situation by the arrival of two similarly stranded bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty—or cold, hard steel—to protect their bloodstained, ill-begotten fortune. THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY boasts an outstanding ensemble cast of Jim Cummings (The Wolf of Snow Hollow), Jocelin Donahue (The House of the Devil), Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night), Nicholas Logan (I Care a Lot), Michael Abbott Jr. (Killers of the Flower Moon), Connor Paolo (A Creature Was Stirring), Alexandra Essoe (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Robin Bartlett (The Fabelmans), Jon Proudstar (Reservation Dogs), Sam Huntington (Being Human), Ryan Masson (Good Girls), and Barbara Crampton (Suitable Flesh, Re-Animator), with Gene Jones (Killers of the Flower Moon), Faizon Love (Elf) and Richard Brake (Barbarian). Director / Writer / Producer / Editor Francis Galluppi joins us for a geeked out conversation on the orgin story and cinematic inspirations for this film, gathering together this terrific cast, and his personal filmmaking favorites. Ever wonder if a head-scratching film can actually be a prequel without telling you? This week, Dan and Tony tackle the circuitous storytelling of "In a Dark Place"—yes, that adaptation of "A Turn of the Screw"—and wrestle with a climax that's more bewildering than a plot twist in a labyrinth. We're peering through the lens of both laughter and critique, dissecting the odd dynamics between characters, the seemingly gratuitous scenes, and the perplexing sexual undertones that leave us as befuddled as a pair of detectives at a ghost convention.Hold onto your popcorn, because our cinematic safari doesn't stop there. We're diving into the murky waters of "The Turning," where the sudden pivot to religious symbolism in the film's final moments leaves us gasping for air—metaphorically speaking. From improvised dialogue that feels like a game of narrative Mad Libs, to character decisions that defy logic, we keep the banter buoyant as we navigate the stormy seas of this adaptation's attempt at provocative storytelling. And if you think ghostly encounters with dolls and masked figures are where the weirdness ends, think again. It's a whirlwind of wonky jokes and untapped drumming potential that might just have you questioning the very fabric of cinematic comedy. So join Tony and me as we muse on everything from the oddities of art therapy in film to the strange allure of schoolyard dynamics—all while maintaining a healthy dose of skepticism about whether our beloved Finn Wolfhard could have been the saving grace of a haunted Bly Manor. Grab a seat and let's get reel about movies!Be our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
Embark on a cinematic journey with Dan and Tony as we unravel the spectral tale of "The Turning," where confusion reigns supreme and ghostly encounters challenge the protagonist's grip on reality. As we dissect this adaptation entangled in the same web as Mike Flanagan's "The Haunting of Bly Manor," we're left scratching our heads at the plot twists and character dynamics that seem to play a game of flashlight tag with our understanding. From questionable '90s music choices to the deeper meanings behind tattoos and empty gumball machines, join us for a dissection of a film that teeters on the edge of the supernatural and the sanity of its characters.Lean in and listen closely as we hold nothing back, critiquing the film's attempt to blur lines that perhaps shouldn't have been drawn in the first place. Our analysis is rife with the enigmatic aroma of old polaroids, the whisperings of ghostly children, and a lake with secrets as murky as its waters. As we ponder the unsettling advances of one character and the mysterious pasts of others, the haunted house backdrop serves as the perfect canvas for our spirited dialogue. And who could forget the classic "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" references as we navigate the cobwebbed corridors of haunted houses and debate the virtues of a savior in this eerie maelstrom?Wrapping up with a bout of laughter and some sage advice from a UCB comedian on the art of universal humor, we tackle the significance behind every misplaced spider and disembodied hand. The episode closes on the chilling notes of a ghostly reenactment and a protagonist teetering on the brink of madness. So, if you're eager for a ride through the twists and turns of a thriller that aims to leave you second-guessing what's real, make sure to tune in to this episode of Hate Watching with Dan and Tony.Be our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
The Haunting of Bly Manor is a slow-burn, creeping horror show that critiques classism, softly embraces queer love, and haunts its audience with tragedy. Gabe discusses the overall theme memory plays in the show and how this is a love story more than a ghost story. Content Warning: This episode contains a discussion on sensitive topics including death, suicide, and addiction. This week Kayla and Chit reviewed Mike Flanagan's “The Fall of the House of Usher” and why it was a great literary ode to Poe and end to his creative tenure at Netflix. Afterwards , they both sat down for a vulnerable and open discussion on grief, faith, and fear stemming from their own past experiences brought out by the genius of Mike Flanagan's horror based tv shows including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN Y'ALL! In order to fill the void after finishing Usher, we decided to hop back on the mic so we could tip our hats to all of the incredible characters Mike Flanagan has created!!! This episode is a Mike Flanagan character snake draft, in which we each choose a 6-person team from any of the 5 Netflix series: The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. In a few days we will put the lists out on our discord to vote on who drafted the best team! Come hang with us! LINK: Discord Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
