A Secret Love This week Chelsea and Michele review this documentary from Netflix. We talk about what it is like to have such an epic love story. Discussed the role of extended family in their lives and how close they are but yet didn't know their secret. Also the reaction of family once they learned they were in a relationship all these years. Looked at the history of homosexuality in society and how Pat and Terry coped with this. They went from having to hide from the world that they were in a relationship to getting legally married. Debated if Pat and Terry waited too long to go into a care home. What these homes are like in Canada and New Zealand. Reviewed how it worked with our grandmothers going into care homes. Encouraged everyone to make plans for your future and discuss them with your family. Overall we loved Pat and Terry. This episode Michele discuss watching the series Animal Kingdom on Netflix. Chelsea discussed watching Unorthodox series on Netflix. The Game Changers Michele and Chelsea review this documentary from Netflix.  We really enjoyed this documentary and discussing the vegan diet. We discussed: -the impact on the environment both pros and cons -the impact of media on diets -findings from anthropologists -how a vegan diet can be unhealthy -which experiments we really liked from the documentary -our favourite people from the show Finally we discussed how this documentary impacted us personally and how we might change because of it.  Chelsea mentioned listening to The Forgotten and This podcast Will Kill you. Audrie and Daisy This week Chelsea and Michele review the documentary on Netflix Audrie and Daisy. It's a documentary about two teens who are sexually assaulted by boys they considered friends. They are then harassed online and shamed by their peers. Some of the points we discuss from this documentary are: -victim blaming and how this leads to men not being held accountable for their behaviour -the impact of Audrie's event on her versus the boys that assaulted her -the issues with the women not reporting sexual assault because of the fallout and lack of prosecution -the obsession with football players and protecting them -the sheriff's reaction to the situation and his comments -how would these situations be different if Sheriffs were not elected -the definition of rape and what exactly that is and issues with consent -why did some cases result in convictions and others didn't -we mentioned the Brock Tuner case -changes in law in Ontario, Canada that could affect rape cases This week Michele watched A Dog's Journey. Chelsea has been listening to podcast The Missionary by iHeart Radio. Netflix Unbelieveable Series was the one Chelsea mentioned and she couldn't remember the title. A docuseries about a girl being raped and not believed. Team Foxcatcher Michele and Chelsea discuss the documentary Team Foxcatcher on this episode.  We start by giving some background on the DuPont family as well as John E. DuPont. We look at John DuPont's development of Team Foxcatcher and the power imbalance that existed between him and the athletes. We also discussed his strange behaviour and this was not new. Also how he was able to get away with things because he had a good relationship with the police We debate if it was o.k to leave his money to one of the wrestlers or if it should have been left with family. Michele and Chelsea discuss the movie Okja and the documentary What the health.  We discussed our thoughts about the movie Okja and how this impacts some people to become vegan more than a documentary. We then discussed What the Health and looked at the following points: -big pharma and their influence on health and the farming -how advertisers have told us that milk is good for us and it is not -how fish is not a real “healthy” option -look at charitable organizations and how they don't always do -how hard it is to get good information about health and diet, even from associations that are supposed to prompt health -we review the results of the participants in the documentary Chelsea gives her thoughts on how her health has changed since she became vegetarian.
