In this session, Dr. Femi Olu-Lafe blessed us with her thoughts and expertise on how to disagree while building a world of inclusion. We explore the many nuances around the psychology of inclusion and disagreement. We speak on some of joys, pains, hits and misses included in embarking on this journey and what each one of us can do to realize ourselves and values in the process. This conversation was apart of our Embodied Chats Series. The forum is very inclusive and tends to feel like a discussion amongst long lost friends, a feeling that we could probably all use these days. So please let us know if you'd like to come out and share at the next one. We'd love to have you! This conversation was apart of our Embodied Chats Series. [[Progressive conversations on finding meaning in the modern world.]] In episode eight, we have an open panel discussion on the “Glossary of Loneliness” from our magazine To Remain Silent, a selection of neologisms for emotions that we have all felt at one point or another, but may have lacked the language to express. The assumption here being that these moments of alienation permeate modern life. We are graced with the presence of Britta Badour, Nadya Nicolo, and our very own Rich Audu moderated by Stephan Ledain. In this interview, our Managing Editor, Nicole Drakopoulos, sat down and spoke with Shabaka Hutchings about some of the core themes in our magazine Plastic / Artificial. During the summer of 2020, the conversation first began over email, a steady back and forth between her and Hutchings, before both they agreed to move the dialogue to a different forum. At the time Shabaka was in London, and Nicole was at home in Greece. It was early in the morning for Hutchings, 8AM, and as he drank a thick green smoothie. He mentioned that he had already been awake for 2-3 hours, practicing his saxophone, and preparing for an upcoming performance in Italy he had the next day. It was the first in-person gig he would be playing since the onset of COVID-19, six months prior. He spoke with deep thought, but with an infectious energy that carried between the screens; weaving insights of musicianship, craft and industry, with threads of philosophy and personal experience throughout the duration of our conversation. This interview is featured in our Magazine Plastic / Artificial amidst a wide, diverse array of powerful visual and literary content on the topic. In this episode, our team took a moment to come together, to reflect and evolve through our lessons this past year. We applied the lens of Plastic / Artificial, our latest magazine, to our discussion and went down a complex but fruitful journey in true etre fashion. We explored the “Artifacts of Artifice” in our discussion which are a commentary of how things come to be contrived. We often use words and terms with a certainty which assumes that we share a collective understanding of meaning, when that is often not the case. In Plastic / Artificial we rewrite and expose concepts such as beauty, relationships, and work. All this in service of enabling you, our dear listener, to create a blueprint for embodied living where you can live a life that is a true representation of your values. In this chat, we made a visit to the Doctor to help us with our ailing hearts. Dr. Kiki Leutner and the Etre Team talk about about the experience of love during lockdown. We outlined the psychology of maintaining, spicing up or starting a relationship during these bizarre times. We do a bit of a crude exploration around the genealogy of romantic relationships and push forward our hopes and visions for the future. This conversation was apart of our Embodied Chats Series.
