Lots of things bring family together, for us its Magic the Gathering.
Valentine, Ashley, and Derric cover the Dominaria Prerelease. Then pauper, before the bans unfortunately. Then we move to a cool design feature for Pokemon. Which also leads to some Apple talk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FamilyGatheringPodcastTwitter: F_G_PodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/familygatheringpodcast/
5 of us went to pauper at Fantasy Games. We cover all our decks and records. What we saw while we were there, and who won. Then Derric shares his dislike of stickers.
We have some changes to the podcast (don't worry we aren't going anywhere). We cover pauper at our LGS, discuss some possible bans for the format. Then Derric starts waxing about Dominaria United.
Derric and Valentine go over the layout of a magic card. With Bonus fun facts.

Jonathan and Val tell us about some cards they like in Commander Legends 2: Baldur's Gate.
New Capenna isn't exactly New, but we've been busy and finally got a chance to open our Prerelease Kits. We all have some thoughts about the set. Then Joe tells us about some changes and updates to 2 decks in his pauper collection ( find one here https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/pauper-black-burn#paper ) We discuss some decks that were named after cereal (I think we need to do a longer episode about this.) Derric talks about some commander deck beliefs he has and a new deck.
Valentine mans the news desk, giving us all some updates on upcoming sets. Including the much anticipated Dominaria United. Jonathan's new commander deck hopped it's way into play. Derric opened some "vintage" cards for a new commander deck. Joe has a bunch of new Legacy decks, so we had to try those out. We started playing out our pauper bracket, wish us luck, it's a lot of magic to play out.
Jonathan and Val are absent this week, so Joe and Derric cover a bunch of topics. Legacy, check. Pauper, check. Proxies, check. Pioneer and Explorer, check. New Capenna, check. Tell us what cards you think will be all-stars from New Capenna. Derric realized AFTER recording that Pioneer is not exactly the format/sets he thought. Prior to Pioneer was a community created format called Front ier, that was in fact Khans of Tarkir forward. Pioneer is Return to Ravnica forward (Sounds like the format for Scotty.) We join Cantrip Cartel, our friend Scotty, and Uncle Matt (and Brian) to do a Neon Dynasty draft in person. After drafting we chat about magic and memories around magic for a little bit. We have a tiny bit of audio issues around Scotty's mic, but make sure you check out https://www.thingamabaubles.com , he's like a real life Santa. Thank you to all our listeners.

Joe and Derric review Neon Dynasty cards they think will see play in (mostly) Pauper.Notes: Uploaded a new file with timestamps per card.
We open our prerelease kits, a little late, but all together. One of us opens money. One of us opens a solid artifact deck. Some of us just open packs and have fun. Oh, we have a special guest also.
The whole crew is together again....well kind of. Family Gathering does it's first virtual episode. New commanders. Pauper Bans. New sets on the horizon. The crew talks about a variety of things. We have a special guest. Jonathan teaches some magic. Read the full ban announcement here. https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/january-20-2022-banned-and-restricted-announcement
One of the cast gets infected. So we postpone some previous recording plans and discuss the Phases/Steps of a turn.
Joe talks about Proxy stuff again. https://www.makeplayingcards.com/http://mpcfill.com/https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=476102 Akoum Hellkitehttps://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=44296 Ward Sliverhttps://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=476048 Joe's Commanderhttps://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=534561 greaveshttps://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=545789 bootshttps://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=491885 Val's commander
Matthew joins us to ring in the New Year, which included a lot of shenanigans. We play a lot of commander. Jonathan experiences his first infinite combo. Matthew shares some of his favorite combos. Valentine isn't with us this week, she was off doing Christmas with her mom. …and we find out about the elves that are out to get Santa.
We gather after Christmas on Boxing Day, because well we were to busy on Christmas Day. We play some commander but don't get to talk about it. Discuss the gifts we got before and then open some on the cast. Legos were popular this year. And of course Magic stuff is.
Half of the crew finishes their commanders decks. Lucky for Derric and Val, Derric already has some decks they can use. Derric asks the digital age kids about Magic Arena and Alchemy. 2022 is around the corner so we talk about some Magic related goals and hopes.
This week we talk about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving Cards. Mana rocks and commander and how they go together. Christmas wishlists. Then end the show with some non-magical hobbies and pass times.
Prerelease time again! We do a 4 person draft. Talk about mechanics and themes we saw. Then finish up with some cards that we really liked.
Joe and Derric get together for a "family" tradition roughly 15 years old now, and find a way to connect it to magic somehow.
The whole crew is back together. We talk about what we've been up to (lots of birthdays.) Find some spooky halloween cards. Derric answers some questions about legacy. We start talking about commander.
Derric returns for some quick follow-up on how his legacy tournament went (not so well in terms of winning.)
Joe, Jonathan, and Valentine are busy with some other things, so Derric made the long drive to hang out with Matthew and his local friend Jake to prep for a legacy event. Then drive more for the legacy tournament at Post Board Gaming in Findlay, OH. If you happen to be in the area check out the store. It was a very well run tournament. Store was clean and professional. Matthew and Jake have their own podcast check, them out! Cantrip Cartel.
We talk about where to spend your money when it comes to accessories! Deck boxes, sleeves, dice, back packs, and life counters.
This week we discuss new decks we built for pauper. We also talk about how some decks evolve and change with new set releases.
We get together for another prerelease (didn't we just do this?) Hold the birthdays this time.
We gather to discuss the cards we feel should be the start of your pauper decks. Also Valentine meets an Eldrazi.
Sword of Hearth and Home is OP when you are playing White/Green.Modular in limited is very very strong.
Joe, Jonathon, Val, and Derric get together for Memorial Day. They are joined by long time friend and House Historian Matt. We share some favorite magic memories and talk about Modern Horizons 2.
Joe and Jon take their twelve pauper decks and have an impromptu tournament between the two of them. Decks were ranked and then seeded high vs low. Surprises quickly shook up the expected outcome.
We discuss who we are and what brought us to making a podcast.
