Adi Shankar Was “Unhappy” With ‘Devil May Cry 5' Because It Took Spotlight Away From His Netflix Series: “I Thought The Franchise Was Dead; I Thought I Was Bringing This Thing Back” Adi Shankar responds. Baldur's Gate 3 dev calls Randy Pitchford's $80 Borderlands 4 comments "gross" because it implies the FPS is more important than "making it day to day" "Real fans are people who love & understand what you do, keep track, and engage with your shit regardless of how much they spend," Douse added. When asked whether Baldur's Gate 3 would also have had a $80 asking price, Douse said even if it did, "we would probably not suggest people do whatever they can to buy it, lest they not be real fans." ‘Marathon' Isn't Canceled, But It's Bad We Even Have To Ask That Colin Moriarity: “I was told by someone familiar with marketing plans in a key overseas market that there are now no plans to do paid marketing for Marathon at all, I don't know if those plans were affected by what has recently happened or if that was always the plan or whatever but it is considered a fairly unusual move for a game of this high profile.” Mortal Kombat 1: We are hearing players' requests for continued game support of Mortal Kombat 1, and, while we will continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 through balance adjustments and fixes, there will not be additional DLC characters or story chapters released from this point on. It's another patron request, sans Billy, as we take on Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance for the PS2! It was also released on the XBox, GameCube, and even the GBA, but we both played it on the PS2 for this episode. This is a Diablo-style game, but based in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, and has a far more action-arcade style than the previous Baldur's Gate games had -- but is that good or bad? Crack open your Core Rulebook, dump stat Charisma, and calibrate your resolve points—because it's time to roll initiative against entropy itself with the Starfinder Galaxy Guide, where space is weird, and the rules are weirder. This episode is brought to you by Dungeon Flow—because your players will never know you prepped their dungeon during the loading screen of Baldur's Gate 3. In this multidimensional episode of The RPGBOT.Podcast, the hosts open with an honest and humorous take on Mother's Day, Father's Day, and the emotional nuances surrounding both. The discussion then shifts into exciting news about their upcoming expansion on YouTube, underscoring the importance of consistency and community engagement in content creation. The heart of the episode dives deep into Paizo's Starfinder Galaxy Guide, with the hosts enthusiastically breaking down the lore, design, and imaginative potential of Starfinder's universe. From the cosmic horror of the Absurdity to the mechanical brilliance of new ancestries, this episode offers rich insight for both new players and veteran spacefarers. Starfinder 2e Galaxy Guide (affiliate link) Key Takeaways: Mother's Day gets more attention than Father's Day, and that's okay—maybe. Consistency is crucial to podcast and community growth, especially on platforms like YouTube. Personal challenges and humor can coexist, making space for honest conversations in nerd culture. The Starfinder Galaxy Guide offers exciting new content and structure for storytelling. The Gap remains a fascinating mystery driving Starfinder's lore. Absalom Station is the galaxy's heartbeat—narratively and thematically. The Absurdity introduces chaos and creativity into campaign design. Starfinder blends genres like horror, sci-fi, and fantasy in a way few systems can. New ancestries and backgrounds open doors to fresh character creation strategies. Cosmic horror and dystopian themes can be deeply engaging when done well. Characters like Sarkeesians and Vlaka bring unique narrative and mechanical twists. Patrons in Warlock-style pacts should have tangible narrative impact. RPG humor—yes, even bad fast food jokes—adds depth to the gaming table. Engaging with the community sparks creative inspiration and innovation. Wizkids recently released pre-painted miniatures of the Baldur's Gate 3 characters in partnership with Wizards of the Coast, and the results were catastrophically poor. Id has once again attempted to reinvent the wheel with Doom The Dark Age instead of just making a sequel to Doom 2016. Neither Chamberlain nor Chance are thrilled with it, but at least Chance is happy with the Star Wars Outlaws DLC and Chamberlain got a nice artsy 2D platformer in Neva. And Alex has done the impossible and kept his marriage whole through most of a co-op playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3.

We break the hearts of fandom as we are baffled by the rampaging success of Baldur's Gate 3, an interesting game made of many spectacular details that don't cohere for us into something that we like playing - a game whose reception and accolades led us to be very confused: "It's all informed by the next sentence you don't get to pick."Part 2 in our evolving series of wrestling with understanding the inherent appeal of all-consuming and frictional media objects.
Well, we were ready to have a very positive episode, but here we are! Xbox has gone all the way ahead of most of the competition and confirmed the following. Console and accessories prices are jumping immediately. Xbox game prices will reach $80 by the end of the year. In a world where the first party is mostly producing divisive titles sitting in the ~80 open critic range, you have to imagine Xbox's financial situation can't be in a brilliant stop to step on a rake ahead of its competition. Yet, that's where things get even more interesting. Xbox's Q3 2025 results saw them at the industry's top publisher while also being the leader in games sold on PlayStation with at least four of their titles in the top 10. Xbox wants their money and the Dukes have plenty of thoughts on this. Is this going to push even more people into Game Pass? Will this give birth to a free tier of Game Pass? What of Cloud Streaming's growth when consoles are becoming extremely pricey. Meanwhile, it's already May and it feels as if we have enough fantastic games to begin our voting on Game Of The Year! Expedition 33 is the talk of the town alongside Oblivion and rightfully so, but it's fascinating just how many incredible experiences surround them. Well hello there everybody, and welcome back to another exciting episode of Trophy Talk. This month we're back to basics with just Colin and Josh so grab a beer , settle in and join them in some long and winding discussions surrounding a cadre of gaming topics. As we do these shows on a monthly cadence now a lot can happen between episodes, and this was definitely the case over the last four week period. Not only did we have the major reveal of Bungie's new extraction shooter Marathon, but we were also greeted with a shadow drop of a beloved 360 era RPG Oblivion, a full state of play on Borderlands 4, and a new trailer and firmed in release date for Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei. It truly is a wonderful year to be a gamer, (price increases on hardware and software withstanding). So, as this is a lot of news, and a lot of potential trophy lists and Platinums to earn we naturally spend some time talking about all of these reveals. Perhaps most relevant to all of us though, is that Oblivion now has a Platinum trophy, and one that seemingly doesn't look to difficult to obtain. Oblivion Remaster boasts the kind of list that allows you to play the game how you want to, as any class, race or skill build and still be able to earn the Platinum. While some people may find this type of list to easy, Colin and Josh feel like it's right at home in the open world RPG genre. After our news related topics and discussions we of course jump in to what we've been playing. Josh waxes poetic about a few games on the Xbox side (with parody in PSN trophy lists) as well as continuing to defend his Brick Master title with The Lego Movie 2 Videogame. Colin continues his hiking journey across the post-apocalyptic United States in Death Stranding (and still absolutely loves it even after 60 hours), and dabbles back with an old classic in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Lastly of course we have our Discord / Patreon write ins as well as our Platinum shout outs. We cover a good deal of topics in this episode with some really great conversation, even if we do go on tangents from time to time. Regardless, we hope that you all enjoy the episode. It was a blast to record as always. Thank you for listening, and take care.

TCW Podcast Episode 233 - Baldur's Gate When three doctors, a prolific dungeon master, a database programmer, and a writer come together to make video games, you get Baldur's Gate! Often credited with saving the Western RPG, Baldur's Gate became a phenomenal hit, taking full advantage of Microsoft's new DirectX API and Windows 95. With this technology, the team created massive, beautiful maps for players to explore. They began shopping their new Infinity Engine around—drawing attention from top figures at Virgin Interactive—but ultimately secured a deal with Interplay, after an initial rejection. This partnership allowed them to shift from an original pantheon-based RPG to using the Dungeons & Dragons license that Interplay had acquired from TSR. They focused on the Sword Coast and the city of Baldur's Gate—an underdeveloped region of the Forgotten Realms that stayed true to the classic swords-and-sorcery motif. The result was a game that captured the spirit of D&D while delivering the fast-paced action that gamers of the late '90s craved! In this adventurous episode of Wise_N_Nerdy, Charles and Joe dive into an imaginative conversation sparked by the Question of the Week: “If you had to survive in a video game world for a month, which one would you choose?” From the loot-fueled chaos of Borderlands, to the pixelated charm of Minecraft, the demonic danger of Diablo, and the classic magic of Baldur's Gate, the hosts explore what it would take to survive — or thrive — in these digital realms.Next, the roll of the dice lands on a fan-favorite (and slightly groan-inducing) moment: Bad Dad Jokes. This time, they're courtesy of an AI, delivering maximum cringe and maximum laughs. From there, it's on to the “How Do I…?” segment, where Charles and Joe discuss financial strategies for married couples. They weigh the benefits of joint accounts versus separate ones, budgeting tools, and the importance of clear, honest communication when it comes to money and marriage. The energy shifts in “What Are You Nerding Out About?” where Charles gets real about the power of great relationships and networking, and Joe highlights a hilarious anime gem, Sakamoto Days, where a retired assassin just wants to run a convenience store… without losing his edge. Charles also gives a shout-out to his guest appearance on Between The Pages with Bob McGough. Then it's time for “Daddy, Tell Me A Story,” where Joe shares a touching tribute to his dad, Papa Nascar, who modeled charity and kindness throughout his life. It's a heartfelt reminder of the legacy parents leave through everyday acts of goodness. Finally, the Parliament of Papas segment brings a story from the internet: a girlfriend feels awkward about being expected to overly praise her boyfriend for a so-so meal. Joe and Charles dig into the importance of gratitude, appreciation, and managing expectations in relationships — especially the quiet ways we support each other daily.Whether you're here for video game daydreams, practical relationship tips, or a dose of dad-style heart, this episode is a perfect place to Find your FAMdom.Wise_N_Nerdy: Where Fatherhood Meets Fandom.

User-generated content (UGC) has become a transformative force in the gaming industry, giving players the tools to shape their favorite games and developers new ways to engage their communities. In this episode of the Player Driven Podcast, Scott Reismanis, founder of Mod.io, dives into how his platform is breaking barriers and expanding opportunities for players, creators, and studios alike.Key Takeaways1. UGC's Role in Expanding Gaming LifecyclesBaldur's Gate 3 has seen over 50 million mod downloads in its first year, with 40% of its player base engaging with mods—double the industry average. Scott explains that mods keep games fresh, encouraging players to return for new experiences, whether it's simple cosmetic tweaks or major gameplay changes. Console players, in particular, have embraced mods, often consuming more content than their PC counterparts.2. Breaking Down Barriers for Console ModdingTraditionally, console ecosystems were closed off to modding due to strict certification processes and security concerns. Mod.io changed the game by partnering with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo, bringing mods to consoles for the first time. This shift has allowed console players to experience UGC at a scale previously reserved for PC gaming, with games like Baldur's Gate 3, SnowRunner, and Skater XL leading the charge.3. The Business Case for UGCMod.io collaborated with Simon Carlos of GameDiscoverCo to analyze UGC's financial impact. The results are clear: games with UGC see a 23% revenue increase over five years, retain 90% more players, and even boost paid DLC sales by up to 26%. UGC not only enhances player engagement but also creates opportunities for studios to better understand what their audience wants through player-created content trends.4. How Mod.io Supports Developers and PlayersImplementing modding isn't just about enabling creativity; it's also about maintaining quality and safety. Mod.io offers automated content scanning for malware and inappropriate material, customizable curation settings for studios, and community reporting tools to flag problematic mods. For developers, this means greater control over their games' ecosystems while giving players the freedom to create and share.5. The Future of UGC in GamingScott envisions a future where games become platforms for creators, allowing indie developers to launch full-fledged titles as mods within larger games. This approach could solve one of the biggest challenges for indie creators—finding an audience—while providing established games with fresh, high-quality content. As Scott says, “You don't have to democratize creation—you just have to enable imagination.”Featured GuestScott Reismanis is the founder of ModDB and Mod.io. With over 20 years of experience in the gaming industry, Scott has helped bring UGC to the forefront of modern gaming, enabling players to create and share content across platforms.Memorable Quotes“UGC isn't competition; it's an opportunity to deepen engagement and extend a game's lifecycle.”“You don't have to democratize creation—you just have to enable imagination.”Relevant LinksExplore Mod.io: www.mod.ioSPONSOR:Check out Nexys Mobile and the Red Magic 10 Pro: https://www.nexysmobile.com/redmagic

Unfortunately we couldn't get everyone together to record this week. With the probable imminent drop of the Oblivion Remaster, I thought it might be appropriate to FLASHBACK to September 2023 so we could relive the discussion of Bethesda's latest open world RPG, Starfield. On today's episode #180, the SAG-AFTRA board unanimously votes to give an interactive media strike to members, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem was so successful it's getting a video game sequel, and Apple reps for their next event. Also, Baldur's Gate III has dropped out of the top 10 highest-rated games of all time list, Starfield makes some weird choices, and of course, we've been playing games.
We discussed Bungie's reveal of the new extraction shooter Marathon, with mixed reactions—Scott liked the visuals, but none were excited by the genre really. Andy catches up with Marko in this super chill episode of Beyond Synth, where they dive into all the usual nonsense — candy cravings, weird chocolate bar names, and the eternal mystery of Tim Hortons. There's also a solid chunk of video game talk: Marko dishes on finishing Baldur's Gate 3, Robocop, and Evil Within 2 (aka “the milk game”), while Andy finally gets deep into Metal Gear Solid V and rants about how good old games still look and play today. They bond over overpriced game releases, modding drama, and how emulators often outdo the actual companies. Of course, it's all soundtracked by killer synth tunes! just two buds talking games, music, and life. Our heroes are struggling with the Cormium problem! King Butthole (Ryan LaPlante, @theryanlaplante) visited Krendan who agreed to found the Ass Guard, Gartok (Laura Hamstra, @lauraehamstra) became Juniper and quickly lost patience with Cormium Planteer, and Quinny (Tyler Hewitt, @Tyler_Hewitt) bided his time waiting for Juniper to get even angrier. But what does Cormium really want to say to Butthole? Also featuring our awesome DM Tom McGee (@mcgeetd). No role-playing today, kids! Just time for that sweet tappa-tappa. Grind for gear, slay some jellied cubes, and enjoy killing some time in this Diablo-clone with a Dungeons and Dragons skin.
I talk with writer, author, and esoteric health practitioner ARE THORESEN.The language of inevitability is upon us, and it is a cruel language, one that allows no discussion of freedom or our ability to direct things. The future - a terrible future - is filled with AI, the effects of climate crisis, fascisms, and wars. And our present - a terrible present - is only going to get worse. In other words, we're given a unified picture of where we're going and what's happening and how to feel about all of it.Of course, the language of inevitability can only show us relatively little. A narrow look at presumed (or manipulated) outcomes. The future is as wide open as ever.Difference and mutability is closer to the truth: whatever happens will happen differently, to different places, and to each and every one of us.Why? Because material laws and spiritual laws flourish differently in each person's life. We all have our own levels and areas of understanding, aptitude, capacity, and education. We all express differing variations on one theme, but that theme is the cosmos. This is the starting point for my conversation with occultist, veterinarian, and author, ARE THORSEN. Are has been on the show many times, most recently on AEWCH 243, when we talked about illness, health, and the end of materialism. Also on AEWCH 205 on Ragnarok, and AEWCH 116 on demonology & nothingness. His most recent books, The Four Doors and Fading and Merging are available via Amazon. Other recent books (which you can order via independent bookstore through the links here) include Meeting Michael: Further Communications from Spirit Worlds and Travels on the Northern Path of Initiation: Vidar and Baldur, the Three Elemental Realms and the Inner and Outer Etheric Worlds. On this episode, we discuss the technique of connecting with the spiritual world, and more specifically why meditation isn't enough... we need to walk into the spiritual world. And how?
