“It's sad to think we're not gonna make it and it's gotten to the point where we just can't fake it. For some ungodly reason, we just won't let it die because … neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye.” Lyrics just as true now as they were when Gladys Knight and the Pips released them to the world on Boxing Day in 1972. But, Overlap Podcast Writing Staff, what does this random piece of Gladys Knight apocrypha have to do with anything? Ah, dear listeners, it contains everything we cover on this week's episode - how to be the first to say goodbye and start transitioning people out of your organization. Our boys Sid and Keith will take us through that journey will help you find the value in prioritizing compassion and occupational transition over a simple massacre-style firing is better for you and your business in the long run - because we tried to do it to Keith and Sid said “No.” Our boys will breakdown the best way to begin your business relationship breakups so be sure to be here for this week's Overlap Podcast.

This was a fascinating chat with a great bloke, who has spent a significant portion of his career navigating terror, horror, chaos and tragedy, inflicted by both nature, and people. And it's fair to say that Dean Yates didn't escape unscathed. He was the ideal warzone correspondent: courageous, compassionate, dedicated. After years of facing the worst, including the Bali bombings and the Boxing Day tsunami, one final incident undid him. In July 2007, two of his staff members were brutally gunned down by an American helicopter in Iraq. What followed was an unravelling of everything Dean thought he knew of himself. His PTSD was compounded by his moral wound - the devastation of what he thought he knew of the world and his own character and beliefs. After years of treatment, including several stints inside a psychiatric facility, Dean has reshaped his view of the true meaning of life and thankfully, these days his family doesn't need to walk on eggshells. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

His PTSD was compounded by his moral wound - the devastation of what he thought he knew of the world and his own character and beliefs. To get better took a while. Years of treatment, including several stints inside a psychiatric facility. But he did get better, and is doing a lot better - and it's so important to know that you can treat these kind of issues. Your life doesn't have to be horrible. But you have to want to get better, and you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to get there. In my Protestant days, I had no problem with anyone talking about Mary—so long as it was Christmas. On Boxing Day, that was it. Over. No more talking about Mary. What are we anyway, Catholics? It was understood that when we packed away the Nativity set, all talk of Mary got packed up along with it. And my proof that Bible-believing Christians should not talk about Mary? The New Testament never did. Well, hardly ever did—just long enough to narrate the Christmas story. Was she in the Acts of the Apostles? Not really. Was she in the Epistles? No. So there you go: no talking about Mary or calling her blessed.

First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on May 21st 2023 Long time listeners to VISION ON SOUND will already be aware that PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI, our returning guest on this week's edition, is a very avid fan of the TV detective series BERGERAC, and, whilst he has mentioned this from time-to-time on his appearances, we realised that we'd never had a sit down to just talk about that show.   So this week we decided to rectify that omission, and for the next hour we have a nice little chat about what it is about that particular cop show, mostly set on Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, which he found appealing enough to ensure that he not only has the complete series on his shelves so that he can watch it whenever the mood catches him, but also that he has an emergency backup set of BERGERAC just in case the first goes wrong, and yet another set – albeit one featuring inferior edits of the programmes – stashed in another place in case the first two can't be accessed.   Think of it as being a bit like prepping for archive TV enthusiasts.   The series BERGERAC was first made and broadcast by the BBC in 1981, and continued to make regular appearances in the schedules for more than a decade, finally signing off, nine series, and eighty-seven episodes later on Boxing Day, 1991, and seems slightly unusual nowadays for not being a detective series based around characters adapted from a series of novels.   BERGERAC was created by ROBERT BANKS STEWART, as is rather well known, as a replacement for his previous series SHOESTRING which came to a sudden abrupt end, and left the BBC looking around for a similar but different Detective series to fill its place in the schedules, and, BERGERAC must be considered to be a very successful solution to a rather interesting problem.   The series starred JOHN NETTLES as JIM BERGERAC, a detective with a troubled past, TERENCE ALEXANDER as his troublesome ex-father in law CHARLIE HUNGERFORD, and SEAN ARNOLD as his boss BARNEY CROZIER at the newly formed  “BUREAU DES ETRANGES” on the Channel Islands, alongside several glamorous women like CECILE PAOLI, CELIA IMRIE, LOUISE JAMESON, THERESE LIOTARD, DEBORAH GRANT and LISA GODDARD, who seemed to find Jim irresistibly attractive, sometimes for several seasons in lead and guest roles, alongside a whole host of exactly the sort of character actors that the likes of viewers like me enjoy spotting in these kinds of shows.   BERGERAC made the most of its picturesque JERSEY locations, and the vintage 1947 burgundy-coloured TRIUMPH ROADSTER Jim drove, to delight audiences across the 1980s, and PAUL has very fond memories of growing up watching this series, not least because of the childhood holidays he spent on the island. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

Talking of 'championship', why the lack of humour about a good old fashioned bit of gallows humour, something Chelsea supporters have been doing for years. And Chidge has found some shocking analysis of Chelsea's rubbish corners. In part two we applaud the performances of many of the players and ask if consistency of performance can be found in consistency of selection. Has a 1-0 win against Leeds given Potter a reprieve and it's remarkable what a win can do to cheer us all up and help the local economy judging by the busy Chelsea pubs after the game. What is Chidge's team selection? With it being advantage Dortmund will a Dortmund goal kill the tie? How will Chelsea score the (minimum) two goals needed to get through when they haven't scored two goals since Boxing Day? Jules, Andy and Pete douse their flaming Christmas puddings with some goals, more misguided footballer tattoos, and Manchester United tears...They chew over the best of the Boxing Day football, where Spurs picked up from exactly the same confusing place they left off and Darwin Núñez proves for some that he is the second coming of Andy Carroll. So with that result it means that Manchester City will face Southampton in the quarter-finals - League One Charlton travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, Nottingham Forest host Wolves and Leicester will take on Newcastle at St James' Park.
