Adam Willard, Minister for Missions and Evangelism

For Missions Sunday, we're going to begin to dive into the topic of “What is the Local Church's Role in Missions?” Is it to meet as many physical needs as we can? Share the Gospel? Outreach? Send money to people who can do these things? This is a big question that we're not going to get fully answered in one sermon. But at least we can start to think through the question as a church and what the Bible has to say about it. Recently, our Local and Go Global Mission Teams have started to try and rediscover what missions is, because it's hard for us to discern what our role in Missions is if we don't have a clear understanding of what Missions is. The astonishing (and sometimes hard to believe) message of the Gospel is that it's free. We may not offer money for it, but in what ways do we act like we need to earn God's favor? In what ways do we seek to put God in our debt by our good works? In what ways do we think God owes us because of something we've done? We are reminded in today's passage, that the gospel is not for purchase. Instead, it is a free gift through Jesus' costly purchase of us. Because Jesus reigns and rules from heaven, we can be gripped by peace and assured that his purposes will prevail. Acts 7:54-8:3 Pastor Dave Pack, Senior Pastor Visit our website at www.fremontpres.org Email us at podcast@fremontpres.org

God's presence cannot be confined to our self-imposed limitations, and to do so is to enter into false worship rather than true worship. Pastor Dave Pack, Senior Pastor Visit our website at www.fremontpres.org Email us at podcast@fremontpres.org

God's redemptive plan cannot be stopped, therefore, to fight against His witnesses is to fight against Him. Acts 5:12-42 Pastor Dave Pack, Senior Pastor Visit our website at www.fremontpres.org Email us at podcast@fremontpres.org

As the early church grew in numbers and unity, Satan sought to destroy it with lying, deception, and a lack of reverence for God. Acts 4:32-5:11 Pastor Dave Pack, Senior Pastor Visit our website at www.fremontpres.org Email us at podcast@fremontpres.org

If you had just been arrested and imprisoned for speaking about Jesus, and then subsequently threatened not to speak any more about Jesus, what would your prayer be? This is the scene in Acts 4:23-31, but the early church prays for none of these things. In fact, out of the seven verses that their prayer spans, only two of those verses are even a petition to God. The first five verses have nothing to do with asking God for anything. When they finally get to their petitions, they're not what we'd expect. The question this passage answers and what this podcast will answer is this: As the winds of fear and anxiety swirl and seek to blow over the early church, how is it that they are enabled to stand so boldly?
