October 26, 2025 | 1 Corinthians 12:1-7 | Sunday Morning Message
This powerful message confronts one of the most challenging tensions in Christian living: how do we reconcile Jesus's command to deny ourselves with His instruction to love our neighbors as we love ourselves? Drawing from Luke 10:25 and the greatest commandment, we're invited into a journey of self-discovery that isn't about self-absorption but about spiritual maturity. The core revelation is strikingwe cannot be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. When we suppress our feelings, ignore our emotions, or live behind masks of performance and possessions, we actually shut off a vital channel of communication with God. The message challenges us to examine three deceptive lies that keep us from knowing our true identity: the lie that we are what we do, the lie that we are what we have, and the lie that we are what others think. Through the lens of Jesus's temptation in the wilderness, we see how Satan still uses these same tactics to keep us from discovering who God created us to be. The call is clear: tune out distractions, surround ourselves with the right people, step out of our comfort zones, and most importantly, see ourselves the way God sees usas fearfully and wonderfully made, as the very pupil of His eye. This isn't New Age philosophy; it's biblical truth that sets us free to love authentically.
We must be willing to accept that God will allow disruption in our lives to refine us with His Spirit.
SERMON: THE PREROGATIVE OF GOD'S SPIRIT SCRIPTURE: Acts 9:1-18 SERIES: SPIRIT FILLED
John continues our series, "5 Truths That Will Transform Your Life," by re-examining Paul's letter to the Ephesians through the lens of today's society.
Is your obedience even making a difference? Are the late nights, uncelebrated faithfulness, and quiet sacrifices really worth it? In this episode of The Uncommon Christian Podcast, Jon Ellis breaks down why eternal reward is always worth the cost, even when no one is clapping. Through Galatians 6:9, Hebrews 10:36, and Matthew 6:20, you’ll be reminded that: ● The harvest is coming, if you don’t quit ● Your obedience is shaking ground under someone else’s feet ● And the real reward isn’t applause, it’s “Well done, good and faithful servant.” This episode will challenge you to stay faithful, call out cultural comfort, and remind you why your unseen obedience matters more than you think. Plus, get a sneak peek of next week’s special guest: John Gallagher from Black Sheep Ministries, whose story proves that reward always follows obedience. When faith feels thankless, remember: the reward is real. In this episode, Jon Ellis shows why obedience today is building you an eternity you can’t even imagine.

WELCOME BACK to our empowering series on the Holy Spirit: Do You Hear The Wind?, an in-depth study to get to know The Holy Spirit. Talk 2 is about Spirit-filled people. In the Bible, there were many who were described as being filled with God's Spirit. This Talk focuses only on four of them (though the third example is a bunch). Through these biblical characters, we'll get a picture of what happens when God's ruach or breath takes up residence in a human. The one big message of Talk 2 today is very special because it's this desperate prayer: “Take not Your Spirit from me.”
In our last talk, we explored a number of Spirit-Filled people in the Old Testament– guys like Joseph, Bezalel, Saul, Gideon, Jephthah, Samson… In today's Talk, we focus only on one Person—Jesus—and how He, too, was Spirit-Filled. So, the title of Talk 3 is Spirit-Filled Jesus. Wait a minute. Isn't Jesus God? Why would He need the Spirit? Yes, He is God. But Jesus is also fully human. He relied on the Spirit. You'll find the Spirit intertwined with the earthly life of Jesus, from beginning to end… One of the beautiful titles of the Holy Spirit is Helper. By calling the Spirit Helper, Jesus is perhaps telling us: The Spirit is what you need Him to be right now. He will meet you where you are. The key message of Talk 3 is: You need the Helper.

Acts 6:1-7In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
Ministry tasks can take on many forms, including things anyone could do, things you are gifted to do, and things you must do. All of them work together for the common good of the church.
The Holy Spirt is sometimes referred to as the Forgotten God. We think we know how to relate to the Father and to Jesus the Savior/Son. But what do you do with the Holy Spirit? Paul tells us to be filled with the Spirit? Great. What does that mean and how does it happen? It all sounds a bit mystical and even weird. Yet it is by being filled with the Spirit that we most closely experience the presence of the Father and the Son. Join us as we explore all of this—along with the difference the Spirit can make in your life.
SERMON: PREPARED FOR HIS PURPOSESCRIPTURE: John 15:26-16:15 SERIES: SPIRIT FILLED
The sermon emphasizes the importance of living a Spirit-filled life as a Christian, drawing from Galatians 5 and other Scripture passages. The central message is that believers should walk in the Spirit to avoid fulfilling the lusts of the flesh, as the Spirit and the flesh are in constant conflict. The preacher contrasts living under the law, which leads to bondage, with living by the Spirit, which brings freedom in Christ. The sermon highlights the Holy Spirit's roles in convicting, cleansing, comforting, counseling, and cultivating Christ-like character in believers. The preacher stresses that the Spirit-filled life is not optional but a command for every believer, enabling them to live victoriously and bear the fruit of the Spirit. The tone is instructional and convicting, urging listeners to daily surrender to the Spirit's control and guidance.
In this powerful message, we delve into the often-overlooked topic of depression in the Christian faith. The story of Elijah from 1 Kings 19 serves as a poignant reminder that even the mightiest of God's servants can experience deep despair. We learn that depression is not a sign of spiritual weakness, but a complex issue that affects our whole being - body, mind, soul, and relationships. The sermon challenges us to reconsider our approach to mental health, emphasizing that we can't simply 'pray away' depression. Instead, we're encouraged to seek holistic healing, combining spiritual practices with professional help and self-care. This message invites us to be compassionate witnesses to those suffering, just as God was for Elijah. It reminds us that our struggles don't define us in God's eyes - we are always His beloved children. As we journey through our own 'wilderness' experiences, we're called to lean into God's presence, even when we don't feel Him near, and to rediscover our God-given purpose.

In Week 2 of Becoming a Redemptive Resistance, we explore James 1:19-21 and the call to reject worldly anger in favor of a Spirit-filled response. Instead of succumbing to the addictive pull of outrage culture, we're challenged to deconstruct misconceptions, like the common misuse of “Jesus flipped tables,” and embrace a posture of being “slow to anger.” As a redemptive presence, we're called to respond with wisdom and grace, reflecting God's righteousness in a reactive world.

Acts 4:1-31The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand. The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest's family. They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is “ the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together. “What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it. But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.” Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God's eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old. On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “ ‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one. ' Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.Acts 5:17-42Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.” At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported, “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to. Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them. The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood.” Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
When we walk with the Spirit, we can see an outflow of His power through the fruits we bear and the gifts we share.
Belong: Holy Spirit–Filled Community What does it really mean to belong in the family of God? Jesus' invitation has always been wide open — there's a seat at His table for anyone willing to come. From Sarah, who laughed at God's promise, to the disciples who constantly misunderstood Jesus, Scripture is full of stories of ordinary, imperfect people finding belonging in God's extraordinary family. In this kickoff to our Fall Vision Series, Pastors David and Tita Rannabargar explore what it means to be a Holy Spirit–filled community — a church that reflects Jesus through gifts, fruit, and forgiveness. Together we'll unpack: What the Bible says about true community — from Genesis to the early church. How a Spirit-filled life expresses itself in our gifts, character, and relationships. Why belonging takes both structure and spontaneity — being intentional yet open to divine interruptions.

In this powerful message, we're challenged to examine our whole-person health and how it relates to our spiritual journey. The key scripture, Luke 10:27, reminds us to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind - encompassing every aspect of our being. This holistic approach to faith invites us to consider how our emotional, spiritual, physical, mental, and relational health all play crucial roles in our ability to fully love and serve God. The message draws an interesting parallel between our lives and a symphony, emphasizing the importance of all parts working in harmony. We're encouraged to 'mind the gap' between where we are now and where God wants us to be in each area of our lives. This introspective journey isn't about perfection, but about growth and alignment with God's will. As we strive for this balance, we're reminded that there are no 'bad' emotions - only unhealthy responses to them. This insight invites us to embrace all aspects of our humanity while seeking God's guidance in managing them wisely.

Acts 3:1-5One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade. When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.“Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets."
In the midst of difficulty, can we receive the good through the groaning? Can we walk with the Spirit who advocates for us in perfect alignment with God's will?

SERMON: POWER FOR OUR WEAKNESSSCRIPTURE: Romans 8:22-28 SERIES: SPIRIT FILLED
In this powerful message, we explore the profound concept of 'burnt stones' from the book of Nehemiah. Just as Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem's walls using broken, charred stones, God specializes in using our brokenness for His glory. The enemy may mock our past failures and current struggles, but these very experiences can become the foundation of our testimony. We're reminded that our scars tell stories of survival, not defeat. This message challenges us to see our imperfections as opportunities for God's redemptive work. It encourages us to embrace our role as 'living stones' in God's spiritual temple, recognizing that our value lies not in being flawless, but in allowing ourselves to be renewed by the Master Builder. As we reflect on this, we're inspired to offer our brokenness to God, trusting Him to build something beautiful from the rubble of our lives.

Acts 2:42-47They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
