We started a podcast. As a part of our 2018 goals, Dario, our Facilities Manager, pitched this idea to us as a way to share what we do, trade secrets on event planning, tips on being a great guest as well as the humorous insights and weird ponderings of our Core Management team. We will release epis…

...in this episode, Kurt gets philisophical on us and asks about the Christmas Spirit. Isn't it just kindness? Why don't we practice kindness all year round? It's a good conversation. Also during this episode, Maile gets attacked by a decorative elk, Chef brings us delicious snowballs and Dario is back for a bit. The team: Micheala, Dario, Kurt and Maile discuss traditions and memories. They also talk about the struggles during the holiday season such as being single, being seperated from your kids or being away from home during the season. This episode traverses probably as much area as Santa's sleigh does on Christmas Eve. Enjoy and happy holidays.
Micheala and Maile went to Las Vegas. Kurt discusses their experiences at Wedding MBA, meeting Micheala's hero, David Tutera, and learning from the experts. They discuss ziplining the Grand Canyon, discovering gems like Dolan Springs, AZ, and Route 66. Other topics covered is the importance of employing planners, event details to account, and hospitality at its best. Of course there is a lot of there insights given that Kurt is on the podcast. It's a good listen. Thanks and have a great day.
...Dario is back...and then he isn't. Oh, wait, he is. We are so excited in this episode that Dario is back, at least for a bit. We may have cashed in on a lunch with the team to start recording this podcast because Dario was at the table and we were excited about the idea of having him back. This is recorded during lunch so you'll hear some background you don't normally. But hey, did we say that Dario is back? Dario shares his thoughts on music, movies and more. He also shares about his new gig as the Deal of the Week reporter for the YouTube Sensation, The NoCo Show. It's exciting to hear about Dario and his adventures. He also share this weeks, Deal of the Week. Beyond that we learn about Kurt's "fear" or "refusal" to seek out new music. We all discuss what 4 movies we'd want to have with us if we were stranded on a dessert island. There are a number of great nuggets in the silly episode for you to enjoy along with learning all the reason why you should follow the NoCo show. Enjoy! In today's episode, we have another international guest, Jakob Loe, from Norway. We discuss a number of musings including the origin of 1,000 Island Dressing, uncles name Lars and polar bears. Jakob was actually at The Leadership Center to job shadow Kurt. With that in mind, we actually spend most of the episode discussing all things employment. Jakob shares insight about employment in Norway and we compare things. We also discuss what we are looking at for employees, challeges employers are facing and unemployment. During this podcast, we preface a blog Kurt wrote so here is a link for that: http://tlcaurora.org/2018/10/the-job-market-and-what-we-are-doing-at-tlc/ One other resource we mention is the current book, the TLC Core Team is currently reading in book club called "Leaders Eat Last" by Simon Sinek. It's a good read and we highly suggest it. We hope you enjoy our podcast and if you haven't al ready, we are on Itunes, Soundcloud, TuneIn and Stitcher. Have the best day! -Hospitalityc Authority
...and we are back after a bit of a break from the podcast waves. With a busy summer and kicking off an awesome fall, the Hospitalityc Authority has been busy doing thier day job of serving amazing guests from all over the world. With that said, it's great to be back recording. Today's episode features Kurt, Maile & Micheala. They discuss all kinds of things but the meat of the episode is spent on judgment and how we deal with it. We also have a suprise pop-in guest, Chef John. While we tend to be light hearted and we are, during this episode we get serious about judgement, how it impacts who we are and how we see the world, but also how it impacts our work in the hospitality business. Have a listen and have a great day! PS We see that the picture says Episode 10. Because we are human, we make mistakes from time to time. Alexander Pope once said, "To err is human." So there you have it.
In this episode, Kurt, Maile and Micheala discuss a wide range of things from college and the price of textbooks, to the Huskers, Scott Frost, to driving with Maile. The crew is joined by Mad Scientist, Jessica, of the Edgerton Explorit Center. She talks about the partnership between the Edgerton and The Leadership Center and their upcoming “Cooking With Chemistry” Camp. They delve into leadership, more Husker Football and everything in between. Oh, and Kurt does his impression of Maile’s lovely Mom, Karen. The only thing missing from this episode is the kitchen sink. Happy listening and a special thanks to our impromptu guest, Jessica! Check out The Edgerton at www.Edgerton.org. Go Big Red.
In today's episode, we have a guest, Chef John, joining the crew to discuss hospitality. Kurt, Chef John and Micheala were just having a conversation about hospitality and work when Maile seized the opportunity to record. This is a good one. Both Micheala and Chef John went to school for areas of hospitality, while Kurt and Maile went to school to be educators. Though their backgrounds are different, their passion for the work they do in the field they happen to all work together in, is really the same. They put the tender, loving, care in hospitality through welcoming and clean facilities, delicious meals and catering, and diligent planning. Together, they create moments that matter as the Hospitalityc Authority. Enjoy an educational, a bit inspirational and at times, funny episode. Have a great day.
In this episode, the crew discusses coffee. Oh the beautiful bean. This week our office has been checking out Black Riffle Coffee Company. Kurt has potentially ingested too much coffee, if that is possible. To the heart of things, we discuss our first jobs, the skills we learned and their impact. We discuss our new team members and how wonderful it is to have them here. There is a number of juicy nuggets in this episode. Enjoy. For those of you interested in employment check out: www.tlcaurora.org
In this episode, Kurt and Maile talk with two special guests, Laurin Süssenguth and Chaz Boeder. Laurin is a German Exchange Student and Chaz is a 7 and half year old boy who knows quite a bit about The Leadership Center. They both do actually and that is because they live with Maile, our executive director. They discuss life in Aurora and their favorite things about The Leadership Center. Laurin offers a unique view on what it's like to have a host family that lives and works at The Leadeship Center. Chaz talks about why he likes growing up here. They discuss their interactions with clients, favorite foods and give some great insights on how they see The Leadership Center. Give it a listen. We hope you enjoy. Thanks, Laurin & Chaz for joining us. It was a pleasure. PS Chaz mentions D4LC Conference, click here for more information: http://tlcaurora.org/services/d4lc-leadership-programs-training/d4lc-explore-conference/
In this episode, the team takes some time to muse over airplane mode and what is its real purpose? Kurt has a new hashtag, #kurtsquirks. Micheala is struggling a bit with words and would like a disclaimer. With that said, Kurt issued a brief to the team for this week’s episode. We are discussing leadership and its meaning. Kurt has a hypothesis: that individuals go through a progression of understanding what leadership is. The team discusses this hypothesis and the variety the answers received to the questions, “what does leadership mean to you?” They also discuss how The Leadership Center examples leadership with the team as well as the D4LC programs we offer. Overall it is an enlightened and in depth conversation on leadership. Enjoy!
and Maile. It's been awhile. With all the conversational antics, a great many topics arise including the great debate between pterodactyl or pterosaur, Maile's need to name everything, all while Kurt peppers the entire episode with his numerous accents. The Canadian Geese come back up again too. To the heart of what we do here, Dario discusses all he and his crew do to prep for spring and summer. We talk about some of the neat recreational opportunities we offer including paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. Oh and we learn about Vicky the Vulture (which we later learned was a manky muscovy duck- thank you, John.) Throughout it all, Micheala keeps us on task. It's another great episode and when you are done, you'll have laughed and learned a few things Those of you interested in Project Treeline, please check this link out: http://tlcaurora.org/about/donors-contributors/ Thanks for listening and as always, we create moments that matter. We look forward to doing that for you.
This episode is full of kinds of new things. Kurt, Micheala & Maile hit the road for the 90th Nebraska FFA State Convention in Lincoln where they did workshops for both Middle School & High School students as well as interviewed a potential intern and checked out some great Lincoln offerings. Recorded in a hotel room at night, you will quickly learn that we aren’t night time podcasters. That aside, there is lots of inside, Michaela meows and Maile breaks into song. Enjoy. Next week we are back to recording with the crew at The Leadership Center during daylight hours.
This week on the Hospitalityc Authority Podcast, Kurt & Maile have guests. That's right, we have real live guests. We are so excited to be joined by Nebraska State FFA Officers, Isabelle Stewart & Hailey Coufal to discuss what they happen to be up to during their stay at The Leadership Center. They reminisce about their year as officers, Maile makes a terrible pun and Kurt is grossly outnumbered by ladies while learning how to properly spell names. It's an enjoyable podcast. Thank you so much to Isabelle and Hailey and the Nebraska FFA for being our guests not just on the podcast but at The Leadership Center.
While we are trying a new recording space and a new mic setting, we also learn that Kurt had some announcer aspirations, that we may have made up a word and a little about Go Big Give, which is the little engine making May 3 a huge day of giving. Thanks for joining us and remember, we aren't pros at podcasts but we are at hospitality. Have the best day.
Our first try at a podcast. In this episode we test out our recording space, equipment and discuss our "Why".
