It's Prediction Week! We predict firsts and some props for the 2026 Husker Football season.
-Sip was in attendance for Trae Taylor's first appearance in high school football in Nebraska, a massive crowd that saw a late comebackby Millard South to beat Millard North, 35-34. Taylor's stats: 16/31, 344 yards, 3 TDs….but he ran the ball 24 times for 94 yards-There seems to be some sort of communication difference in terms of if Nebraska coaches were upset about Taylor running it 24times…regardless, that's a lot of carries for any QB and especially in the first game of the season…so was there a convo with coaches?Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We are less than two weeks away from the kickoff of the 2026 season, and the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, presented by Strategic Solutions Sanitation, is coming with some fresh analysis. Travis Justice and former Husker All-American, Dr. Rob Zatechka, dive deep into the defensive side of the ball. Dr. Rob believes that if the Huskers are going to move beyond six or seven wins in 2026, they'll need to improve significantly on defense. Especially upfront on the defensive line and in their ability to stop the run against Big 10 opponents. Dr. Rob believes that with a new Defensive Coordinator, new defensive position coaches, and a good mix of returning players and transfers, the pieces are in place. But he's been burned before, and that's why he's taking a wait-and-see approach before he comes to any conclusion on how talented the defense really is. One of the last remaining records for Husker Football going back to the “Glory Days” is the sellout streak. It currently is at 410 consecutive games, dating back to 1962. The streak is in serious jeopardy, and the athletic department is selling attractive ticket packages to try to keep it going. Is now the time to let it stop? Sure, the sellout streak is a source of pride, but it has also become something of an eye-roll in the college football world, as TV often shows a stadium far from full when the Huskers are on TV. Holding on to the sellout streak can, and in many ways does, look like desperation when you are giving away tickets or buying them up just to keep it alive. In the end, the best way to sell out the stadium is to put a good product on the field that fans can be proud of. If we are being honest, Nebraska hasn't done that in over a decade. The Five Heart Podcast focuses heavily on Nebraska football as fall camp gets underway, with particular excitement surrounding the revamped defense. The hosts discuss new defensive coordinator Rob Aurich and safeties coach Tyler Yelk, praising their football backgrounds, straightforward personalities, and enthusiasm for Nebraska. The new 4-2-5 defensive scheme is expected to improve Nebraska's ability to stop the run by putting more bodies near the line of scrimmage. The hosts also highlight significant offseason gains in player size and strength, including 667 pounds of added lean mass and 188 pounds of lost fat across the roster.Several defensive players receive attention, including Dexter Foster, Vincent Shavers and Dwayne McDougal. The defense is emphasizing turnovers, with a goal of creating three takeaways every practice, while coaches are stressing tackling and forcing fumbles. The discussion also turns to the offensive line, Justin Evans' development at center, and the addition of transfer linemen and new coaching personnel. The hosts remain cautiously optimistic about Nebraska's improvement. The latter portion covers Nebraska volleyball, which enters the season ranked No. 1 after another deep postseason run. The team is described as veteran-heavy and cohesive under new head coach Dani Busboom Kelly.

-Sip and media had about 20 minutes to watch a portion of practice yesterday---there were many reports about the running backs, where itsounds like Mekhi Nelson and Isaiah Mozee have been getting the reps with the first team so far, followed by Jamal Rule…and there was a TikeyHayes sighting-Per Husker Online's report, new Husker LB Owen Chambliss elicited memories of Carlos Polk with his size and play…that's quite a comparisonfor a 20 minute viewing; did Sip see anything from the QBs at all?Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
