When a workplace is moving a million miles an hour, the natural instinct is to rely solely on technology and efficiency to get things done. Mike Robbins believes this is a missed opportunity. He challenges leaders to prioritize human connection, leaning into the "analog" skills of authentic leadership and vulnerability to build high-performing teams. Joe Mull welcomes Mike to the Boss Better Now podcast for a heartfelt conversation about building stronger and more connected teams. As a former professional baseball player, renowned speaker, and author of five books, Mike draws on a lifetime of teamwork experiences to help leaders cultivate environments where people perform at their best because they feel psychologically safe, valued, and connected. Throughout the discussion, Mike outlines his Authenticity Equation and explains why giving people the space to be honest and imperfect is vital for driving trust in the workplace. He also shares compelling stories from his own life, from getting drafted right out of high school by the New York Yankees to a defining moment with his high school basketball coach, to illustrate the importance of celebrating effort over outcome and modeling the behavior you want to see. In this episode of the Shift AI Podcast, LaSean Smith, Product and Growth Lead at Google Cloud, joins host Boaz Ashkenazy for a wide-ranging conversation on how systems thinking and agentic AI are reshaping the way individuals, small businesses, and enterprises operate.LaSean shares a career journey that spans Microsoft HoloLens, Amazon, a successful startup exit, and now Google — plus a portfolio of small businesses that have served as his real-world AI lab. From a salad shop in Renton to a pre-construction development business in Seattle, he's applied workflow design and agent automation to solve practical problems long before it was fashionable. The conversation digs deep into how to actually build effective AI agents — not by prompting a chatbot, but by thinking in workflows first, identifying where reasoning actually needs to happen, and writing skills that make agents fast, reliable, and token-efficient. LaSean explains the "parcel grader" agent he built for his construction business, why he starts every agent build in a chat interface before moving to CLI, and how the McDonald's SOP model is the right mental framework for getting great output from AI.Boaz and LaSean also discuss the barbell economy that AI is creating — where small players and large enterprises both gain leverage while the middle gets squeezed — why Microsoft's Copilot strategy missed the point, how to think about agent security and identity, and why healthy organizational culture is the actual prerequisite for successful AI adoption. The episode closes with a reflection on what "always changing" really means as a mindset, and why building resilience and systems thinking skills now is the most important career investment anyone can make. This episode is essential listening for entrepreneurs, operators, and anyone using or thinking about deploying AI agents in their work.---Chapters[00:00] Episode 100 and LaSean's First Jobs[03:30] From Microsoft HoloLens to Amazon to Google: LaSean's Career Path[08:00] What LaSean Does at Google Cloud Today[11:00] The Entrepreneurial Side: Small Businesses as an AI Lab[16:00] The Barbell Economy: Why the Middle Is Being Squeezed[20:00] Building the Parcel Grader Agent for Pre-Construction[25:00] How to Write Better Skills: Start in Chat, Not CLI[30:00] Workflow Thinking vs. Department Thinking[35:00] Why Google Is Generating 75% of Its Code with AI[38:00] The McDonald's SOP Model for Agent Design[42:00] Agent Security for Individuals and Small Businesses[47:00] Enterprise AI: Governance, Trust, and Organizational Design[52:00] The Two-Word Future of Work: Always Changing---Connect with LaSean SmithLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/laseansmith/Connect with Boaz AshkenazyLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/boazashkenazy/Email: info@shiftai.fm

Lessons Learning from My First Jobs - Grocery Store Bagger. This is episode 812 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Did you have a job or two before you entered your career field? Maybe you started in high school and then college before finally entering the path that you were ultimately focused on achieving. Just to be clear, when I say a job, I do mean working for someone other than your father or parent or guardian. Actually, having a boss and getting an official paycheck - you know one where taxes are removed from your gross pay? My first job that fits this description was grocery store bagger for a local branch of Pantry Pride. A fairly large store that was just about everywhere in Florida during the 70s and 80s.  In this role I bagged groceries and offered to help you take them to your car. That was my main purpose, but the role had many other requirements. Some of them included - spot mopping, straightening aisles and restocking shelves, retrieving shopping carts from the park lot, and assisting customers. It was a great learning experience. I had a great boss and several co-workers that made time spent fun. While I was a grocery bagger, I learned several skills and lessons that have been impactful to this day. During this reflection I will share those skills that have remained with me all these years. This episode is the first in a multiple part series that looks at these early jobs and what stayed with me as I moved forward in my adult life. Did you have a first job that created lessons that impact you and your job today? What were those lifelong lessons? It would be great if you shared those lessons with me. If you go to my website there is a box that lets you contact me. There also is a place that you could leave me a voice message. Thanks for listening. Please share.  All the best! In this deeply honest episode of Domestic Dad: Cleaning Up The Mess, host Nick Barnett sits down with Shane Fuller—former pastor, husband, and father of four—for a powerful conversation about the complexity of change and what it truly takes for men and fathers to become who they want to be.   Rather than a dramatic downfall or instant breakthrough, Shane's story unfolds through layers: childhood influences, faith formation, identity pressure, emotional suppression, and the quiet realization that doing all the “right” things doesn't always lead to a healthy or fulfilled life. Together, Nick and Shane unpack how discouragement, shame, and unresolved pain often masquerade as anger, addiction, or control—and why most men are trying to fix the wrong problem.   The episode explores how change actually happens: through self-awareness, acceptance, consistency, and small daily decisions—not perfection or willpower. Shane offers compassionate insight into fatherhood, emotional leadership, and how tending to our inner life transforms the way we show up for our spouses and children.   This conversation is for the man who knows something needs to change, feels overwhelmed by where to start, and wants to grow without burning everything down. Shane's story is a reminder that meaningful change is rarely simple—but it is always possible.   Episode Timeline •00:00 Introduction and Greetings •00:54 Childhood Memories and Family Background •02:49 Moving to Cedar Falls •07:19 First Jobs and Early Interests •13:36 Understanding and Managing Emotions •23:04 The Importance of Self-Awareness •30:44 Navigating Faith and Family •34:55 College and Faith Formation •36:08 Theology and Personal Growth •41:39 Struggles with Pastoring •44:22 Rediscovering Compassion •50:07 Embracing Perspective and Change •56:31 Addressing Hurt and Anger •01:02:50 Practical Steps for Positive Change •01:05:39 The Power of Positive Attention •01:16:07 Small Changes, Big Impact •01:17:21 Overcoming Shame and Self-Doubt •01:18:13 Breaking the Cycle of Negative Beliefs •01:19:19 The Power of Consistency in Parenting •01:34:08 The Joys and Challenges of Fatherhood •01:43:44 Advice for Those Feeling Stuck •01:46:23 Final Thoughts and Farewell   ⸻   Key Themes •Why change for men is complex and often misunderstood •Discouragement, shame, and the roots of anger •Faith beyond performance and pressure •Fatherhood, emotional presence, and leadership at home •Small, consistent changes that reshape families   This episode speaks directly to fathers who feel stuck between who they are and who they want to be—and are ready to understand how real change actually works.   Website | YouTube | Facebook | Instagram | Book Appointment | B2B Meeting Website: www.domesticdadproject.com    YouTube: www.youtube.com/@DomesticDadProject   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DOMESTICDADPROJECT   Insta: https://www.instagram.com/the_domestic_dad_project   Shanes Website: https://fullercs.com

In this episode of Restaurant Owners Uncorked, Wil sits down with Nick Patel, a CPA who left corporate accounting to become a multi-unit franchise restaurant owner before pivoting back into accounting, this time with a focus on helping restaurant operators. Patel shares his personal journey from owning restaurants in Florida, the challenges of partnering with family, and the lessons learned from expanding too quickly. Today, he runs a thriving accounting and advisory practice that specializes in restaurants, helping owners navigate razor-thin margins, complex tax credits, and strategic planning. The conversation spans everything from partnership structures and breakeven analysis, to practical tools like Margin Edge and bill.com, to how strong customer service and “high touch” relationships are becoming rare advantages in business. Both Wil and Nick emphasize the importance of focus, humility, and planning as the foundation for restaurant success.8–10 Key Takeaways Focus Before Scaling – Patel's experience taught him to master one location before attempting rapid multi-unit growth. Confidence without experience can lead to mistakes. Partnerships Require Operating Agreements – Family or friends in business together must clearly define roles and responsibilities upfront to avoid conflict and confusion. Cash Flow Is King – Restaurants should aim for at least six months of fixed costs in reserves when opening to weather delays, early inefficiencies, and training costs. Market Research Matters – Demographics, traffic counts, and competitor sales tracking (even via receipt numbers) are critical before selecting a location. Leverage Tax Credits – Tools like the FICA tip credit and Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) can save restaurants tens of thousands of dollars annually, yet many accountants overlook them. The Value of Niche Expertise – An accountant who has actually owned and run restaurants brings empathy and practical insights that generalist CPAs may lack. Technology Should Enhance, Not Replace Relationships – Tools like Margin Edge, Ramp, and bill.com help manage costs, but true value comes from maintaining high-touch service and communication. Service Excellence Is a Competitive Edge – With customer service expectations so low across industries, simply answering calls and emails promptly can set a business apart. First Jobs in Restaurants Build Lifelong Skills – Both Wil and Nick argue that everyone should work in a restaurant at least once to learn resilience, multitasking, and people skills. Relationships Create Opportunity – Patel turned an “unsuccessful” restaurant experience into a successful CPA firm by maintaining strong relationships and becoming a preferred vendor.

It's an episode filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the kind of meaningful storytelling that makes the Spun Today podcast what it is.   Throughout this episode, I touch on everything from cherished friendship catchphrases and cycling marathons, to our first jobs and the profound impact travel can have on creativity and perspective. We reminisce about coming-of-age moments, family reunions, and the small rituals that inspire us.   As you listen, I hope you'll appreciate the raw emotion and candid storytelling as much as I did revisiting it. Whether you're tuning in as a writer looking for inspiration, or as someone seeking comfort in community, this episode is a reminder to cherish every moment, tell your stories, and put pen to paper while you still can.   So pull up a chair (or a spot on the sand), and get ready for an episode that's as much a tribute as it is a celebration of creative living. Rest in peace, Pablo—you are missed, and your story lives on through the words and memories we share.   Let's get into it.   The Spun Today Podcast is a Podcast that is anchored in Writing & Random Rants, but unlimited in scope.  Give it a whirl.    Twitter: https://twitter.com/spuntoday Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/spuntoday/ Website: http://www.spuntoday.com/home Newsletter: http://www.spuntoday.com/subscribe   Links referenced in this episode:     Follow Pablo on Twitter: @pabs711 & Instagram: @pabs711   Get your Podcast Started Today! https://signup.libsyn.com/?promo_code=SPUN (Use Promo code SPUN and get up to 2-months of free service!)
