Meaning of image worship “An image is not of itself, nor is it for itself. It rather springs from the thing whose reflection it is and belongs to it with all its being. It owes nothing to a thing other than that whose image it is; nothing else is at its origin. An image takes its being immediately from that of which it is the image and has one sole being with it, and it is that same being” ……………... I need your deep reflection on these words. He quotes: The wisdom of Khalil Gibran and Paul Goodman is shared on the topic of "Silence, Solitude and Self-Knowledge". Please listen and reflect on the dee[ wisdom of these two great stalwarts. TRANSCRIPTION OF “SILENCE-SOLITUDE-SELF KNOWLEDGE” Greetings from Spark. In today's audio podcast. I will be talking about “Silence Solitude and Self-knowledge”. This is in the category of mystical messages. There are a number of contemporary mystics who lived among us in the 19th and 20th century. And I would like to take their wisdom in dealing with this particular subject. Two and a half millennia after Lau Tzu, and the century before Le Guin and Barry, Khalil Gibran who lived between 1883 and 1931 and was the great philosopher, poet, of the highest order and most timeless in his outpouring of wisdom, and he addressed the relationship between silence, solitude, and self-knowledge in a portion of his 1923 Classic “Prophet”. Here is what he says: Here is some food for thought: You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts. And when you can no longer well in the solitude of your heart. You will live your lips and sou“l is a diversion, and a pastime. And in much of your talking, thinking is half murdered. For thought is a bird of space that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its swing, but cannot fly. There are those among you who seek the talkative through fear of being alone. The Silence of aloneness reveals to their eyes their naked selves. And they would escape. And there are those who talk without knowledge or forethought reveal a truth, which they themselves do not understand and there those who have truth within them but they will not tell it in words, the bosom of such of these., the Spirit dwells in rhythmic silence.” 20th century novelist, poet and playwright and psychotherapist, Paul Goodman, talks about silence, which is worth considering in this context. Not speaking, and speaking are both human ways of being in the world. And there are kinds and grades of each. There is a dumb silence of slumber, or apathy. The sober silence that goes with the solemn animal face. The fertile silence of awareness, pasturing the soul Whence emerges new thoughts. The alive silence of alert perception. Ready to say …...This. This. The musical silence that accompanies absorbed activity. The Silence of listening to another speak. Catching the drift, and helping him to be clear, The noisy silence of resentment and self-recrimination loud and soft vocal speech. But sullen to say baffled silence. The Silence of peaceful accord with other persons or communion with the cosmos. What a beautiful way of summarizing the different aspects of silence. This gives you enough thought to reflect. Thank you for listening and we'll see you in the next episode.
