The revival of Shi‘ite Sufism, after the destruction of Safavid empire, occurred during the Zand dynasty (1163-1209/1750-1794) and continued through the Qājār era. As Zarrīnkub has pointed out, the Qājār era was a time of nostalgia for the noble past. Of course, their mystical philosophy had to fit the theological standards of Shi‎‘ite society. The two leading Sufi orders in this revival movement were the Ni‘matullāhīs and the Dhahabīs. These two orders had much in common, as both of them highly emphasized the importance of following Islamic laws and Shi‎‘ite beliefs. They were known to be the propagators of Akbarian philosophy in Persia. Dhahabīs and Ni‘matullāhīs were strong promoters of the school of “Unity of Being” (Waḥdat al-wujūd). Mīrzā Muḥammad Taqī, with the spiritual title of Muẓaffar ‘Alī Shāh (d.1215/1800) is one of the most influential masters in the history of Ni‘matullāhiyya order. This Shi‘ite Sufi master is one of the most active and knowledgeable masters of the Ni‘matullāhīs during this era. He is the first master after the return of the order to Persia who wrote about its cosmological views, based on the philosophy of “Unity of Being”. In his youth, he began studying the rational and traditional seminary sciences (‘ulūm ‘aqlī wa naqlī) and became well-versed in them. Muẓaffar was more of a mystic philosopher (ḥakīm) than a jurist (faqīh), and extremely well-versed in speculative Sufism, following the school of “Unity of Being”. Muẓaffar ‘Alī Shāh's mystical poetry had in-depth mystical meanings, with heavy reliance of Ibn ‘Arabī's philosophy and terminology. Muẓaffar was very influential for the development of the Ni‘matullāhī order and as a propagator of Ibn ‘Arabī's thoughts. His beliefs about the perfect man, insān-i kāmil, were highly influenced by Akbarian (Ibn ‘Arabī's) philosophy. Muẓaffar passed away in 1215/1800. He wrote numerous books and literary papers, which are tremendously valuable for a better understanding of Ni‘matullāhī thought. Muẓaffar ‘Alī Shāh wrote poetry lamenting over his separation from his master, Mushtāq, to whom he dedicated a compendium of his poetry, calling it Diwān-i Mushtāqīyya. In this paper, we will examine two of Muẓaffar's writings: “Sea of the Secrets” (baḥr al-asrār) and “Compendium of the Seas” (majma‘ al-biḥār) which are both interpretations of the first chapter of Quran. “Sea of the Secrets” (baḥr al-asrār) is in verse form of Mathnawī and “Compendium of the Seas” (majma‘ al-biḥār) is written in prose. In these two works, Muẓaffar ‘Alī Shāh heavily relied on the chapter of Prophet Adam in Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam of Ibn ‘Arabī. He had numerous references to Ibn ‘Arabī and his writings. Muẓaffar ‘Alī Shāh explains the relationship between Nubuwwa (prophethood), Risāla (apostleship) and Wilāya (sainthood) based on Ibn ‘Arabī's teachings using his terminology like the disclosure of Attributes of Divine Majesty (jalāl) and disclosure of Attributes of Divine Beauty (jamāl). This paper investigates the importance of Muẓaffar ‘Alī Shāh for survival of the school of “Unity of Being” among practicing Shi‘ite Sufis in general and the Ni‘matullāhī Sufi in particular as one of the most important Shi‘ite Sufi orders in Iran.

That you cannot live a healthy, sexual, loving relationship with the opposite sex! Our inner path should not be an escape from the world.I read honest biographies of the famous Gurus in the last 100 years.Almost everyone had a sexual relationship that he/she was hiding and was lying to be in celibacy…When we cannot surrender our heart to the opposite sex: Then we cannot surrender our hearts to God.Because we have blocked our heart chakra, true spirituality is impossible with a blocked heart chakra. Then we cannot unite our male and female energy or Yang and Yin to become neutral and that is necessary! Our darling is a reflection and represents ourselves, in the form of the opposite sex. Every bad habit that we see in our darling is hidden in ourselves or that actually represent us.Our sins we see first in other people (Goethe). How can we discover the opposite pole in ourselves be it yin or yang if we reject the opposite sex? This is not possible.  The worst thing on the spiritual path is to block our sexual energy because sexual energy is the only energy that we can use for our spirituality. And 33% of our energy is sexual energy. Then we have sexual shame and that hinders us from raising up our sexual energy or even more our Kundalini from the root chakra to the crown chakra.Without Kundalini we never can experience our real spirituality. For instance The true Guru Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan gave so many people a higher spiritual experience during his concerts than anybody before him; - he was married and had one daughter. The true Guru Radha Mohan Lal, of Irina Tweedie, book: Daughter of Fire: A Diary of a Spiritual Training with a Sufi Master. He was married, had kidsDilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, the highest Guru of the Tibetan and Guru of the Dalai Lama was married and had 5 kids. When King Ramana refused to marry and wanted to renounce the world, his Guru told him, tell me what is not God, so why should it not be holy to marry? Read the Book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. My Video: What is the biggest obstacle on the spiritual path? https://youtu.be/bktJWHT2fL0 My Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast4/What-is-the-biggest-obstacle-on-the-spiritual-path.mp3

Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"“There exist other kinds of thinking selves beyond the human”. - Eduardo Kohn "One of the instrumental figures in bringing the music of the drone to the West is the Sufi musician Hazrat Inayat Kahn. His musical treatise from the early 20th century, simply titled Music, is an incredible sonic-spiritual composition on the potentials and possibilities of music as law, as cosmology, as harmony. “Music is behind the whole working of the universe”, the Sufi Master wrote, “We live and move and have our being in music”. "In contemplating natures music, in finding ears to hear it, a body to feel and dance it, a mind to celebrate and (re)think it, and -all together- a spirit to create it, I fatefully encountered this incredible ‘unidentified sound #1' from AWI's PALAOA observatory in Antarctica. This strange, long, low frequency drone from somewhere in the Antarctic Ocean has an unknown origin. Is it from a creature? From water? From some geological feature? A nearby machine or ship? All that is known about the origin of this sound is that no ship was within a thousand km radius when it was recorded. What we can say for certain is that it is a subaquatic sounding of Earth, of universe, captured expertly and offered for us here to resonate with, to find resonance in the unknown of the sonosphere. "When I first heard the recording, I immediately felt that it was already so beautifully strange that it required only very little to elicit its charms. I only wanted to amplify its qualities, saturate its mysteries. Considering it as a vocalization of Earth I simply play along with it, in amity and community. To get there, I put myself into a trance through a listening meditation and recognize the sounder. I reflect the sound multiply into the eternal of drone. I play back to the sounder an image of itself that is also me. This track operates as an attentional strategy for rediscovering ourselves in the more- than-human world. "Water, amongst other things, is a specifically acoustic environment. Sound travels faster than light in water, and whale song is thought to produce holographic ‘images' within the mind of the ancient creatures as they communicate with one another across vast distances. Creatures both aquatic and terrestrial use sound as a form of sight: sonar. If we consider this ‘sonic sight' in an expanded sense, then when I deeply listen to this sound, I am, in a sense, recognized by it, or whatever emanates it. In coming to witness one another -over time- we come to recognize each other. In that unspeakable recognition between myself and the sound, I believe we have a camaraderie, we are in, of, and as the thought(s) of the world beyond the human. "If you take a look at the wave/sonogram of this composition, you will see an audio Rorschach figure swimming or flying out of the vibration. This has to do partly with the way the structure of the composition was prepared: first playing the original recording backwards (to get to know it better), and then forwards. In that reflection between the polar edges of the Earth and my Farfisa (an electric organ) I acknowledge and celebrate mystery as mystery. I find solace in what is immeasurable, intangible, uncertain. It is there in the musicality of resonant Earth that the radical plurality and multiplicity of worlds and thought resides and resounds in a relational dynamic that exists beyond experience." Unidentified sound reimagined by Jol Thoms. Part of the Polar Sounds project, a collaboration between Cities and Memory, the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). The Gift of Rumi: Experiencing the Wisdom of the Sufi Master (St. Martin's Press, 2022), written by Dr. Emily Jane O'Dell was published by St. Martin's Press in 2022. In this rich and insightful book, Dr. O'Dell takes us through her own spiritual and physical travels, as well as gives us historical and Islamic mystic context to help us understand and cherish the words of Rumi on a deeper level. As one of the world's most loved poets, Rumi's poems are celebrated for their message of love and their beauty, but too often they are stripped of their mystical and spiritual meanings. The Gift of Rumi offers a new reading of Rumi, contextualizing his work against the broader backdrop of Islamic mysticism and adding a richness and authenticity that is lacking in many Westernized conceptions of his work. Author Emily Jane O'Dell has studied Sufism both academically, in her work and research at Harvard, Columbia, and the American University of Beirut, and in practice, learning from a Mevlevi master and his whirling dervishes in Istanbul. She weaves this expertise throughout The Gift of Rumi, sharing a new vision of Rumi's classic work. At the heart of Rumi's mystical poetry is the “religion of love” which transcends all religions. Through his majestic verses of ecstasy and longing, Rumi invites us into the religion of the heart and guides us to our own loving inner essence. The Gift of Rumi gives us a key to experiencing this profound and powerful invitation, allowing readers to meet the master in a new way. Guru Kabir is considered to be one of the primary founding masters of Sant Mat spirituality, the Sant tradition. Kabir is also the "Rumi" of India, a wonderful bhakti poet-mystic and lover of the Beloved Lord of the Soul, the Ocean of Love.   Sant Kabir lived during the fifteenth century, raised near Banaras by Muslim parents. He was a weaver, a simple and unlettered man, who earned his living at the loom. It is out of the heart of the common life that he sings his rapturous lyrics of Divine love.   “Kabir” is an Islamic name popular in the Muslim world — it's one of the “Ninety-Nine Names of Allah” found in the Koran, meaning, “The Greatest”.    Today, Kabir has over twenty-five million devotees in various Kabir Panth and Sant lineages, and is loved by Sikhs, Hindus, Jains, Christians, and Muslims alike. Kabir's hymns are still sung in the satsangs of various paths all over India and around the world.   Everyone's Universal Saint, Kabir was:    - a Master or Sant Sat Guru of Surat Shabd Yoga, a founding Guru of Sant Mat and Kabir Panths;   - a musician and poet of Nirguna Bhakti (love and devotion for the One Beloved Formless God);   - a great teacher of Eastern Gnosis (Gnosticism or mysticism);   - peace maker between Hindus and Muslims;   - a social reformer in India who denounced the caste system;   - thought of by many in Islam to be a Sufi Master or Murshid;   - believed by Hindus to be one of the greatest poet-mystics and Vaishnava devotees in the history of India;   - considered a Bhagat by the Sikhs — many of his hymns are included in the Adi Granth (Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh scriptures);   - influenced by Goraknath and the Nath Yogis, and the Nath Yogis of northern India were, in turn, influenced by Tantric Buddhism;   - Kabir's spirituality is a blend of Prem and Bhakti: love and devotion for the Beloved Lord, the One God (Ek Ongkaar), and mystical, soul travel experiences of a visionary and auditory nature (Inner Light and Sound Meditation, Surat Shabd Yoga).   All for the love of wisdom, radio, and podcasts, James Bean Spiritual Awakening Radio https://www.SpiritualAwakeningRadio.com

Today's passage, “When you meet Buddha on the road, kill him” – this verse was reportedly said by Zen Buddhist master, Lin Chi who died in 866 A.D. If we are searching for answers outside of our inner knowing, we are abandoning our agency to adopt the ideas and beliefs another. Sufi Master, Rumi said, “What you are seeking is also seeking you.” Meaning, everything you seek has been within you all along.Remember, Tony Robbin's 2016 documentary aptly titled, “I'm not Guru”? Same  idea. There is no duality.  If we believe we are separate from others, we begin to operate under a self-imposed limitation. Playing it small.Have you ever played small because you didn't believe in your own ability to succeed? I know in my 20s, I was asked by our department director to apply for a manager role and I declined because one of the young men I worked alongside was applying for that same role. I saw him as the Buddha, more capable and knowledgeable than myself. On the flip side, if you are a parent, are you parenting as the Buddha in your home? Is your parent-child relationship based on a hierarchy that requires obedience at all cost in strict adherence to your vision for your children's lives? Or, do you believe that your children developing their independence -their signature- is more important than their total compliance to your teachings? Will you kill Buddha or follow the paths of others?Connect with me: Instagram.com/megan_nycmom

For Ep 21 of #MikesMomentOf I catch up with my friend @trinitydevi : #GongMaster #Kundalini practitioner #AyurvedicPractitioner We discuss her journey to, and current practice with these traditions.  Bio Trinity Devi,  is a Gong Master,  Gong Avatar Trainer, Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Ayurvedic Practitioner and Vibrational Healer. She has been in the yogic path and healing practice for more than 15 years. Her profound affinity and dedication to the practice of Yoga, Meditation, Sacred Sound and the Gongs has led her to teach trainings for the Gong Avatar Academy in Miami, contributing to the growing community of conscious Gong players. Through her extensive background and devotion she brings wisdom, clarity and a powerful transformative energy  to her classes, workshops and personal sessions.   Certifications & Accomplishments: Trinity Devi is a NAMA Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner. Her personal yoga and meditation journey began in 2001 by experimenting with various styles and practices. She then concentrated her studies in Kundalini Yoga at Golden Bridge Yoga with Master Teachers Gurmukh, Tej, Harijiwan and Gurushabd, and is certified as a Kundalini Yoga Instructor through the Kundalini Research Institute. Also through Golden Bridge Yoga in Los Angeles, Trinity Devi – Ma Shakira  became certified as a Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga Teacher.  After receiving her introduction to Gong Playing with Gong Master Harijiwan, Trinity Devi advanced into deeper layers of Self and Gong Mastery, Sound and Vibrational Healing with Master Gong Avatar Sotantar Suraj at the Gong Avatar Academy. Through her many years under the skillful guidance of her teacher Sotantar Suraj, she embarked into deep studies and explorations of Self and Gong Mastery, Sound and Vibrational Healing, Tantra, Self-remembrance and Mysticism. Trinity Devi leads Trainings for the Gong Avatar Academy in Miami, FL. She is a Reiki Master certified by the International Center for Reiki Training, and an Integrated Energy Therapy Advanced Practitioner certified by the Center of Being. She has also studied  Marma Therapy, Aromatherapy and Crystal healing. She is an Osho Sannyasin,  a lover and student of Evolutionary Astrology and an eternal student of Life.   A Trinity of Names Over the years of explorations, I have been fortunate to receive beautiful spiritual names. The power of the spiritual name is that it gives you an opportunity to start a new, and a powerful sound current to meditate upon and connect to the essence of who we are, beyond societal conditionings. Trinity Devi was given to me by my beloved teacher Master Gong Avatar, Sotantar Suraj. Trinity is the principle of absolute balance that pervades the world, seen and unseen. It is creativity, the result of the synergy between polarities. The constant principle of expansion and contraction through which a third energy is stabilized and  can then come to visible form. Devi the feminine aspect of the divine. Ma Shakira This is my Osho Sannyasin name which I received from Sufi Master and beloved teacher,  Videha. Ma is given to all women and represents the feminine, the mother, and the capacity to give birth to oneself Shakira is a Sufi name which means gratitude. The one who lives in eternal gratitude toward the divine Siri Deva Kaur  This name I received through the Kundalini Yoga path. Siri means great. Deva is a subtle, etheric, divine being. A being of elevated consciousness. The nadis are channels that carry energy through our bodies. There are thousands, but we tend to focus on three: ida, pingala, and sushumna.Ida and pingala travel from the root chakra to the third eye, crisscrossing paths along the way. Sushumna is the central channel that travels up the middle.Where the three meet, you will find a chakra.I am beyond delighted to have Arabella Champaq back on the podcast to talk about the nadis and how they have helped support her and her practice. The nadis are an important part of our subtle energy body, but not talked about nearly as much as the chakra system.Arabella discusses what they do, how you can recognize which is activated, and some practical steps to take into your daily practice.Arabella Champaq was initiated by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, a Sufi Master of the Chishti Order, in 1976. She studied with him for 25 years.Eventually, she began searching for a more integrated path, one that included all parts of her being. She longed for a spiritual path that addressed the disconnect between spirit and body, between God and Pleasure, between what we believe and how we live. She began an exploration of sacred sexuality, which led her to tantra. In tantra, she has discovered the perfect marriage of the sacred and the profane, of the inner and outer worlds, of the fact that she has both an innate desire for the transcendent state and experiences extended orgasms. She studies with Swami Ravi Rudra Bharati (a.k.a. Rudy Ballentine), a student of Swami Rama. She has taught meditation, led retreats, classes, and workshops since 1985.If you would like to find out more about Arabella, her work, and how you might be able to study with her, please visit https://tantragateway.weebly.com/.*****For more information about Adam Bee, sacred intimacy, and Tantra, please visit https://adambee.com

The famous Abu’l-Qasim al-Qushayri (d. 465/1072) is well known as one of the most influential figures in the formative period of Sufism. He was part of a network of prominent Sufis in Nishapur that were shaping the competing forms of spirituality during the eleventh century. Due to this noteworthy role in Sufism al-Qushayri’s work has rarely been examined within the contexts of the concurrent and intimately connected traditions with which he was also engaged. Martin Nguyen, Assistant Professor in the Religious Studies Department at Fairfield University and founder of the great site Islamicana, has meticulously reconstructed the nexus of al-Qushayri’s intellectual field through a close examination of his Qur’an commentary, Lata’if al-isharat (Subtleties of the Signs). In Sufi Master and Qur’an Scholar: Abu’l-Qasim al-Qushayri and the Lata’if al-isharat (Oxford University Press, 2012), part of the Oxford Qur’an series in association with The Institute of Ismaili Studies, Nguyen draws al-Qushayri’s legal training in the Shafi’i madhhab and his theological positioning the Ash’ari school to the surface. He also demonstrates that al-Qushayri had a continuing exegetical corpus and was long committed to Qur’anic commentary. As the final iteration of his tafsir, the Lata’if points to al-Qushayri’s alignment with a Nishapuri collective of exegetical hermeneutics. Some of the various issues Nguyen’s close reading explores include muhkam and mutashabih (clear and ambiguous) Qur’an verses, naskh (abrogation), the ascension narrative (Q. 53.1-18) comparing al-Qushayri’s Kitab al-Mi’raj and the Lata’if, the disconnected letters in the Qur’an (al-huruf al-muqatta’a), the narrative of Job, anthropomorphism, and the Master and aspirant (Shaykh and murid) relationship. In our conversation we also discussed the notion of tradition, exploring archives and manuscripts, composition and audience, attribution, exoteric versus esoteric commentaries.
