Preaching: Ben ConachanDuring the long stretch of the Christian year from Advent to Pentecost, we are invited to ponder the mysteries of Christ: incarnation, atonement, resurrection. The remainder of the year, Ordinary Time, turns to the generations of every day saints, the Jesus-followers who keep pushing the Divine Story forward. In an age where American Christianity seems to have lost the plot, we can turn to the stories and examples of mystics and poets, women and outsiders who have kept the way of Jesus alive in times ancient and modern. This series will explore pairs of saints whose lives and writings inspire us to keep moving forward today. This week, we turn to two mystics—Meister Eckhart and Bruno Barnhart—who challenge the idea that God is somewhere "out there" and invite us instead to discover God as the very ground of our being. It's a vision of faith less about searching for the Divine and more about coming home, and learning to grow up into the kind of secure, mature love that makes us capable of real connection.Pearl Church exists to express a sacred story and to extend a common table that animate life by love. A primary expression of our sacred story is the weekly sermon. If our sermons inspire you to ponder the sacred, to consider the mystery and love of God, and to live bountifully, would you consider supporting our work? You can donate easily and securely at our website: pearlchurch.org. Thank you for partnering with us in expressing this sacred story.

Per info e prenotazioni contattare: info@tiepoloverolanuova.it oppure whatsapp +39 3382668622.Mercoledì 10 giugno - ore 21.00Enzo BianchiAscolto, dunque, sono  Gardone Val Trompia (BS)Cortile Villa Mutti Bernardelli, via XX Settembre 31In caso di maltempo: Sala V. In a world shaped by endless scrolling, constant distraction, and shrinking attention spans, many people are discovering a deeper spiritual hunger beneath the noise. Why, in an age of instant answers and endless stimulation, do so many still feel disconnected, restless, and searching for meaning? In this episode, we explore the lost art of stillness and why ancient wisdom may be more relevant today than ever before. Drawing inspiration from mystics like Meister Eckhart, we reflect on silence, contemplation, nature, and the human longing for depth in a fast-moving world. We also explore how modern distraction fragments the soul, why time in nature can feel like remembrance rather than escape, and how purpose is often rediscovered not through constant achievement — but through presence. This is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and rediscover the deeper rhythm of being alive.#Spirituality #Mindfulness #Stillness #Purpose #PersonalGrowth #Mysticism #InnerPeace #MeaningOfLife #NatureHealing #SelfDiscovery #Contemplation #MentalWellbeing #Presence #PodcastLife #SpiritualJourney #LivingToBEUseful Information:www.reinogevers.comhttps://reinodiary.com/Books:Sages, Saints and SinnersDeep Walking for Body Mind and SoulWalking on Edge: A pilgrimage to Santiago

In this episode of LivingToBe, we explore the crisis of modern life: the loss of community, ritual, and spiritual belonging. As more people leave villages, churches, and traditional forms of community behind, many find themselves living in increasingly anonymous worlds — surrounded by people, yet deeply alone. But what exactly have we lost in the process?Drawing on insights from the Blue Zones, ancient spiritual traditions, neuroscience, and the wisdom of medieval mystics like Meister Eckhart, this conversation reflects on why human beings still hunger for meaning, sacredness, and connection — even in an age that often dismisses religion. Why do ancient cathedrals still move us?Why do rituals calm the nervous system? Why does silence sometimes feel more healing than information? This is a thoughtful and deeply human exploration of loneliness, spirituality, ritual, aging, and the enduring search for transcendence in a distracted world. If you've ever felt spiritually restless, disconnected, or quietly searching for something deeper beneath the noise of modern life, this episode is for you.#LivingToBe #SpiritualConnection #MeaningAndPurpose#SacredSpaces #ModernLoneliness #Spirituality #CommunityMatters #SoulCare #MindBodySpirit#BlueZones #MeisterEckhart #InnerLife #FaithAndDoubtUseful Information:www.reinogevers.comhttps://reinodiary.com/Books:Sages, Saints and SinnersDeep Walking for Body Mind and SoulWalking on Edge: A pilgrimage to Santiago

You've already met the version of yourself you're trying to become. The conversation where you stopped managing yourself and just told the truth. The decision that cost you something but felt clean all the way down. The morning where nobody needed anything from you and for an hour you were completely, unmistakably yourself. That wasn't a fluke. That was the signal. In this episode, Jason digs into one of the most misunderstood concepts in personal development — the higher self — and strips away the woo-woo to get to what it actually means and how to practically use it. What you'll hear: What ten thousand years of spiritual tradition — from Sufi mystics to Egyptian priests to medieval Christian mystics — actually agree on about the higher self (and why it changes everything about how you approach growth) The real reason the best version of you feels buried — and why it has nothing to do with effort or information A four-domain self-assessment that forces honesty without the spiral (and why there are no 7s allowed) Four questions that cut through the performance and point you back toward yourself The one ten-minute practice that every tradition and every piece of behavioral research points toward — and why most people never actually do it The line from this episode: "The higher self is not a destination. It's a direction. You orient toward it one honest moment at a time." In a world of misinformation and uncertainty, we're often tempted to think our way out of our problems. But what if more knowledge isn't the answer? In this episode, I talk with philosopher and author James K.A. Smith about his book Make Your Home in This Luminous Dark and why the pursuit of certainty can easily become an idol. We discuss his personal journey discovering the wisdom of silence, solitude, and surrender after a season of depression forced him to confront problems thinking alone couldn't solve. We explore the insights of the medieval mystics, what it means to let go of the need to win arguments, why our bodies matter in spiritual practice, and how discovering our belovedness reshapes the way we live and engage the world.James K. What did Jesus Christ really mean when he said, “Love your enemies”?In this episode, we explore why forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood teachings in the Christian tradition. St. Isaac the Syrian is ruthless here because he is protecting us from despair on one side and fantasy on the other. Most of us live precisely in the state he describes. We have repented. We have turned away from obvious sins. We pray. We read. We fast. And yet our prayer feels crowded. Memories intrude. Images multiply. The heart is pulled back into itself again and again. This is not a sign that repentance was false. It is the normal condition of an unfledged mind. Isaac is teaching us not to panic when the mind cannot yet fly. At this stage virtues are still heavy. They belong to effort. They restrain the mind but they do not yet lift it. We imagine that distraction means failure and that freedom should come quickly. Isaac says no. Freedom has an atmosphere. The mind must slowly learn the air in which it will one day remain. Until then it hops. And hopping is not sin. It is training. The mistake is trying to force flight. When we strain to escape images we only multiply them. When we analyze distraction we deepen self consciousness. When we demand interior stillness before humility has done its work we turn prayer into a project. Isaac quietly refuses all of this. He tells us to remain faithful to outward obedience without expecting inward vision yet. What overcomes these tendencies is not technique but endurance in smallness. We continue to pray even when prayer feels poor. We do not chase experiences. We accept that God is served through visible things for a long time. And we allow the Lord to teach us the inner meaning of what we already practice. Slowly virtues become transparent. They stop drawing attention to themselves. They begin to point beyond themselves. Humility is the hinge. Not self accusation. Not interior commentary. Humility is staying low enough that God can lean toward us. The humble man does not try to send his prayer upward. He speaks it close. Like a word placed directly into the ear of God. Lord You will enlighten my darkness. This is what readers of Philokalia Ministries need to hold on to. If your prayer feels earthbound do not abandon it. If your mind is crowded do not fight it violently. If your virtues feel external do not despise them. You are not failing. You are growing feathers. Flight comes later. First comes patience. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:06:24 Bob Čihák, AZ: P. 176, # 21, second paragraph 00:13:26 Bob Čihák, AZ: P. 176, # 21, second paragraph 00:15:11 Angela Bellamy: congratulations Father

S8: E1: Turning the Page: Welcoming 2026 with Tea, Toast & TriviaThere is something quietly ceremonial about the first episode of a new year. It feels less like a launch and more like opening a door, pausing on the threshold before stepping forward. As 2026 begins, I wanted to start Tea, Toast & Trivia not with urgency or prediction, but with reflection. This opening episode, “Turning the Page: A New Beginning for 2026,” is an invitation to slow down and consider where we've been, what we carry with us, and how we choose to move forward. Each of us lives a story that is constantly unfolding. Some chapters are marked by celebration, others by transition, loss, or quiet reorientation. Over the past year, I've experienced those shifts firsthand, moments that reminded me that while we cannot return to earlier pages, we can carry their wisdom into what comes next. This episode reflects on that truth. It is shaped by memory, by gratitude, and by a deep belief in what Meister Eckhart called “the magic of beginnings.” Not the kind of beginning reserved for youth or grand reinvention, but the kind that appears whenever we are willing to pause, listen, and imagine anew.At its heart, this podcast remains what it has always been: a place for quiet conversations in a noisy world. A space where reflection matters, listening is honoured, and a simple cup of tea can open the door to something meaningful.I'm so glad you're here at the beginning of this new chapter. Whether you've been listening since the early seasons or you're just joining me now, thank you for being part of this shared journey. Listen to the episode and if it speaks to you, I hope you'll linger with the words, with your own thoughts, and with the pages you're turning in your life.May the year ahead be filled with moments well-lived, stories well-loved, and beginnings trusted.Until next time, RebeccaMusic by Epidemic Sound“Smell of Morning Coffee” by Franz Gordonhttps://www.epidemicsound.com/music/tracks/c56a59ac-d55b-44c2-b40e-083f23daae8a/

Why new beginnings don't need to be big to be powerful. How to trust yourself and take one small aligned step forward. It gave language to dynamics we were feeling but didn't yet understand — why, despite our love for one another, we so often felt hurt, alone, or misunderstood. We were desperate for clarity, longing to discover what was not working, and what needed to change within us and between us to grow the kind of marriage we both believed was possible. In 2014, we recorded a live conversation exploring how our styles of relating had been colliding — and sometimes colluding — since before we were married. That conversation became Episode 9 of the Become Good Soil podcast, marking an early milestone in our journey toward healing and deeper connection. Now, we invite you to join us again as we revisit this territory. It highlights how contemplative practices like Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina offer a pathway to direct spiritual encounter rather than reliance on dogma or belief alone. Ultimately, the message is that like Unity, the Christian mystical heart is found in the direct, indwelling experience of God (Divine Immanence), echoing the wisdom of figures such as Meister Eckhart and Julian of Norwich.Website: http://www.theunitycenter.net Download Our New App: https://theunitycenter.churchcenter.com/setupAsk Yourself This: https://www.amazon.com/Ask-Yourself-This-Questions-Expand/dp/087159336XSubscribe to our YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/2hBqp7F Purchase Lesson Series Packages: https://theunitycenter.net/sunday-series-packagesListen to our Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/6YJWcAhQUnkEHFqBXQmz1G

I feel like I see more acutely than ever into the backing track of human experience. There is the "outside" of how our lives are going within givens and events, but then there is the "backing track" -- the enabling part, the staying part, the... well, the (kind of) Eternal Part. The two parts, the outside and the backing track, are separate. "Phosphorus" is a word one sometimes uses for this, but listening to an old Beach Boys song from 1973 brought it home so beautifully. You hear a number of "stanzas", and then (at least twice, maybe three times) a keyboard-driven bridge -- a melody that puts you right through the roof emotionally. It summons almost automatically the mood you'd want to have surrounding you when you are dying. Moreover, the voiced imperative at the end, "Sail on, sail on, sailor", is exactly what I need. I don't need someone to help me find 'new purpose', something to plant me in the now again, when my spirits are low. I need, as Meister Eckhart wrote in 1312, to experience the following: "If you are looking for God, go back to where you lost Him." To put that in slightly more horizontal terms -- tho' even its horizontal transcription is really Vertical -- "If you are looking for who you are meant to be, go back to where you really were yourself". Incidentally, that was probably not in connection with your career or your cause. It was more likely in connection with a certain someone. People sometimes think I'm overdoing it when I underline the centrality of romantic connection in life. I don't believe I am. The main reason one underlines that dimension is, well, ... popular music. It's not news to anyone reading this, that 97.5% of all rock songs, from the very beginning (i.e., Elvis and Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry and Link Wray and Joe Meek), concern romantic love. Not 65% or even 85%, but 97.5%. Think about that. I mean, really, let that sink in. Anyway, if you want to find God (i.e., your way forward, as opposed to your way backward -- to inertia, bitterness, and cascading negativity as the years go on), go back to... the song you remember from that time you first came out of yourself. Whether the person you were with when you first heard that song is alive or dead, present or out there (Moody Blues, 1988), that moment is eternal. It is still present. It is still your empirical guide to... the New You. Podcast 406 is dedicated to Sam Everette.

What role does grief play in our understanding of impermanence? Dave Richo opens with the foundational Buddhist concept of impermanence, reminding us that everything—relationships, beliefs, identities—changes and ends. Drawing on teachings from Zen master Dogen, Dave shares how impermanence is not a flaw but actually embodies our Buddha nature. In this light, change becomes not just acceptable but sacred. Dogen's view that “the very impermanence of all things is Buddha nature” grounds Dave's message that resisting change only leads to suffering, while embracing it opens us to enlightenment. This sets the stage for grief—not as something to avoid—but as a crucial practice that helps us process endings.Dave outlines grief as a healthy psychological response to impermanence, made up of three core emotions:Sadness – letting ourselves feel the weight of the loss;Anger – facing the unfairness or hurt of what changed;Fear – acknowledging anxiety about what's next.He gently encourages us to face these with vulnerability rather than ego. Grief, when shared and expressed authentically, becomes a path to depth and personal growth. Using stories, metaphors like the “freeze frame” and “landing strip,” and even mystical quotes from Meister Eckhart, Dave weaves a poignant picture: everything is meant to be lost—not as punishment, but as a clearing for our true, unburdened self to emerge.______________David Richo, Ph.D., is a psychotherapist, writer, and workshop leader. This week, we dive deep into the heart of the Lord's Prayer—exploring what Jesus teaches us about prayer and how it can transform our spiritual lives. We begin by reflecting on Meister Eckhart's profound reminder: "If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is 'thank you,' it will be enough." With this powerful simplicity, we enter into a discussion about how the language we choose in prayer shapes our relationship with God and one another.Today's sermon invites us to explore:Prayerful Adjectives: Why the attributes we assign to God matter deeply.Parental Figures: Understanding the familial language Jesus uses—beyond traditional gender binaries—to ground our prayers in shared community. Our Shared Reality: Recognizing prayer as an expression of unity, reminding us that God belongs to all of us.Newborn Desires: How aligning our desires with God's transforms not just our prayers but our lives.Ultimately, this message encourages us to reimagine prayer as sacred conversation—where we are fully known, completely safe, and unconditionally loved. It's a space where authenticity meets divine embrace.Join us as we rediscover prayer as a profound act of trust, solidarity, and hope. May this teaching encourage you to see yourself and the world through the compassionate eyes of our collective Father. ★ Support this podcast ★

How do we put the genius of St. Francis to work in our own lives? In this final episode of our Third Season, Richard takes us through Chapter 13 of Eager to Love, "Francis: A Natural Spiritual Genius". Mike, Drew, and Paul then engage in a rich conversation with author Jon Sweeney, who shares his journey of writing about St. Francis and how it has shaped his understanding of compassion and sensitivity in daily life. The discussion emphasizes the importance of navigating the complexities of living out spiritual values in a world filled with challenges. Sweeney highlights the radical love inherent in Franciscan spirituality and the significance of daily practice in living out these principles. The conversation also touches on Francis' critique of social structures and his solidarity with the suffering of the world, culminating in the emotional depth of his teachings that intertwine love and wound. Mysticism is a modern word, as Simon Critchley discusses in his tremendous new book, On Mysticism. And its novelty is not a happy intervention in the history of mystics and their significance, Fundamental aspects of the insights pursued by figures such as Mother Julian and Meister Eckhart are obscured by the focus on peak or exceptional experiences. Our discussion seeks to gain a sense of recovery. We dwell on Mother Julian, in particular, and her idea about sin and suffering, weal and woe, and what she really meant by all shall be well.We think about the role of surrender in psychotherapy, writing and music, and the role of what Simone Weil called “decreation”.We ask about how philosophy might move on from “bloodless critique” to “watering flowers”.I think On Mysticism is a great book. It manifests the attention that it advocates and the revelations that come with active waiting. For more on Simon's book see - https://profilebooks.com/work/on-mysticism/For more on my forthcoming book on William Blake see - https://www.markvernon.com/books/awake-william-blake-and-the-power-of-the-imagination 0:00 What is mysticism, what is it not?12:02 The role of experience in mysticism23:49 Mother Julian on hazelnuts35:57 Mysticism and psychotherapy41:09 Mother Julian's truly radical theology45:58 Universalism and the mystical way57:40 Selfhood and surrender01:12:57 Socrates the mystic and modern philosophy

Abby and Patrick are joined by philosopher Simon Critchley to discuss his new book, On Mysticism: The Experience of Ecstasy. They discuss how, for Critchley, mysticism represents "a way of thinking about existential ecstasy that is outside and more than the conscious self.” Exploring the book's survey of key figures and texts in the Western Christian tradition, the three unpack how accounts of mystical experiences can challenge our assumptions about the past, defy traditional philosophical ideas of subjectivity, and suggest new ways of thinking about the conditions of everyday life in the present, all with rich psychoanalytic implications. Their conversation ranges from the cognitive and affective dimensions of mystical experience to mystical accounts of embodiment, gender, and erotic jouissance to the biographies and autobiographies of mystics, and more. "What is really important you? Put another way, if you knew your time was short, on what or to whom would you focus your evaporating minutes? To what task would you give yourself? How would your priorities change? The truth is, your time is short, so these questions apply. "Your spirituality, faith, and overall wellbeing will grow stronger, deeper, livelier, and more vital as it becomes the more focused, more concentrated, and more simple. Don't go for more of anything. Go for less. Paraphrasing the words of Meister Eckhart, 'The way of Jesus has much more to do with subtraction, than it does addition.' Where this art of simplification really works, and you don't have to a mystic or uber-spiritual to experience this for yourself, is staying present in this one day that you have - today."

In this episode, I got to talk with Simon Critchley about his new book Mysticism. We delve into Critchley's journey towards exploring mysticism, his reflections on modernity, and his discussions on key figures like William James, Julian of Norwich, and Meister Eckhart. We also discuss the importance of reading and understanding mystical texts, the role of prayer, and how modernity has impacted our perception of faith and spirituality. His engagement with mysticism beyond the confessional boundaries in which it so often emerges makes the topic and the book a timely reflection for our contemporary spiritual crisis. Simon Critchley has written over twenty books, including studies of Greek tragedy, David Bowie, football, suicide, Shakespeare, how philosophers die, and a novella. He is the Hans Jonas Professor of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research in New York and a Director of the Onassis Foundation. As co-editor of The Stone at the New York Times, Critchley showed that philosophy plays a vital role in the public realm. Original Air Date: January 27, 2021One of Oprah's favorite quotes comes from German mystic Meister Eckhart. He said, “If the only prayer you say in your entire life is ‘thank you,' that will be enough.” Oprah says when she started keeping a gratitude journal more than 20 years ago, it was one of the most important things she's done. The daily practice of writing down five things to be grateful for balanced her life in subtle and inspiring ways. "It sounds simple,” Oprah says, “but when you go through the day staying conscious about what you put on your gratitude list, it shifts the lens through which you see the world.” In this episode of Super Soul, Oprah sits down with luminaries like Mark Nepo, Ram Dass, Elizabeth Lesser, Reverend Ed Bacon, Tracey Jackson, Paul Williams, Geneen Roth, Cheryl Strayed, Caroline Myss, Gretchen Rubin, Shawn Achor, Marie Forleo, Lynne Twist, Louie Schwartzberg and Norman Lear to discover that the practice of gratitude can elevate our lives to a state of grace. Interviews with these talented writers, speakers and thought leaders are excerpted from Oprah's Emmy Award-winning show Super Soul Sunday. You can also find this compilation and other insightful conversations in Oprah's best-selling book The Wisdom of Sundays. Ram Dass passed away in 2019. Although the ecological sphere has long declared the need for a shift in consciousness if we are to survive the myriad crises we've ignited, this conversation often lacks examples of what this change in consciousness might be like as a lived, embodied experience. This week, author of the cult classics The Brothers K and The River Why, David James Duncan, joins the podcast to speak about his new epic novel, Sun House—a story following the journeys of an eclectic collection of characters, each seeking Truth and meaning, who come together to form an unintentional community in rural Montana. David talks about the impetus behind the novel to impart an experiential model of contemplative inner life that might help navigate a future of social, cultural, and ecological unraveling that looms large. Wide-ranging and tender, the conversation explores how the wisdom of the great mystics—from Zen master Dōgen to the thirteenth-century Christian theologian Meister Eckhart and the Beguines—can be relevant in uncovering responses to the crises we face.
