Do we live for our substitute gratification or do we really make the things that we want?Do we surrender our life:To love?To our mission?Or to our passions?Do we give our child rather more surrogates to calm them down? Are we loving parents…?What are our substitute gratifications?TV, Facebook, industrially processed food, Junk food, drugs, all the distraction… mainly everything that we don't need and don't give us the reason to live. When I was 25 years old, I read the book: The Continuum-Concept, In Search of Lost Happiness, by Jean Liedloff… In this book, Jean describes the suffering of the sciences who trekked through the Amazons area and their porters, simple American Indians who enjoyed the journey… Why was it so?The American Indians had no trekking gear, and they carried the heavy baggage of the Sciences… so they should suffer much harder…?The reason is:The American Indians grew up with so much love … and so pain, hardship is for them easy to endure. We are growing up with less or no love, but with substitute gratification. And the surrogates make us weak…!I could watch a similar situation when I lived 25 years ago in an Indian Ashram. The Indians could bear very much pain, hardships and could still enjoy their life…The Indians were beating their kids. And still, they were giving their kids so much love and forgiveness that the pain was for the Indians not important. They didn't rather care for the pain. When you can choose between good and pleasant/enjoyable, choose the good the pleasant is mostly evil. - VedantaWhy is it so? For instance, an unhealthy lifestyle is pleasant, but in the long term, you get punished for that…So more substitute gratification, so more we get lost in our life…A quote from the movie “Rocky”But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Through the substitute gratification, we are getting so weak that we can't surrender anymore our life to the things that matter to us.And when we get ill by the surrogates, we are taking drugs or medicine that makes us even weaker…My Video: How to waste our life? https://youtu.be/jX9PSsikgasMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast1/How-to-waste-our-life.mp3
Here I offer a guided meditation where we bring judgmental awareness to a particular sensation or emotion and then gently do the same with an opposite sensation or emotion. We are then invited to hold both in awareness at the same time. The "rub" between the opposites tends to create a friction which serves to neutralize both. It is out of the alchemy of opposing energies that equanimity flows.Meditation can be challenging at times. Occasionally we may experience things which surprise as a result.

What if music isn't just entertainment—but the very architecture of reality? In this paradigm-shifting episode we explore the radical proposition that vibration is not merely a metaphor. From ancient philosophy to modern neuroscience, near-death experiences to channeled symphonies, we trace a breathtaking arc across time and consciousness to uncover a unified theory: that sound, frequency, and resonance are the keys to understanding who we are, where we come from, and what reality truly is.We begin with the ancients. Pythagoras' “music of the spheres” and Kepler's celestial harmonics weren't poetic musings—they were mathematical assertions that the cosmos itself is structured like a divine instrument. From there, we zoom into the microcosm: the human being as vibrational receiver. Drawing on metaphysical sources like Andrew Jackson Davis, we explore the idea that every atom is a string in a divine orchestra, and that alignment—feeling “centered,” “in tune,” or “in one accord”—is not just metaphorical, but literal. Discord, then, becomes vibrational misalignment, a friction against the grain of existence. This sets the stage for one of the most compelling bodies of evidence: near-death experiences (NDEs). Across cultures and contexts, experiencers report hearing indescribably beautiful music—not as entertainment, but as truth made audible. Dr. Michael Newton's regression research reveals souls recognized by their unique vibrational signatures, suggesting that each consciousness is a distinct note in a cosmic symphony. Hospice workers echo this, documenting patients perceiving ethereal choral music moments before death. These accounts challenge materialist assumptions: if the brain is offline, what is doing the hearing?Next, we explore the human conduit: savants, creatives, and channelers who seem to access music not through learning, but reception. Cases like Leslie Lemke and Gloria with Williams syndrome suggest that profound musical ability may be latent in all of us, unlocked by unusual brain wiring or trauma. Dr. Alan Snyder's research proposes that inhibiting certain brain regions can temporarily reveal savant-like perception, implying that genius may be a matter of tuning in rather than building up.Then come the channeled currents. Rosemary Brown claimed to transcribe music dictated by deceased composers, while Stuart Sharp spent decades trying to capture the “Angeli Symphony” he heard after personal tragedy. Jacqueline Ott went further, channeling music from non-human intelligences—cosmic languages, liquid light, divine blueprints—suggesting a source beyond individual spirits, perhaps a universal vibrational database. This leads us to the primacy of consciousness. Drawing on quantum physics, Vedanta philosophy, and contact modality research, we explore the idea that consciousness is not produced by the brain, but fundamental to reality itself. Nobel laureates like Sir James Jeans and Erwin Schrödinger leaned toward this view, echoing ancient insights that the observer and the observed are one.If consciousness is primary, then phenomena like UFOs, NDEs, OBEs, and channeling may be different expressions of the same underlying truth: consciousness interacting with other layers of reality. Researchers like Dr. Kenneth Ring and the FREE group found that experiencers across modalities report similar transformations—less fear, more compassion, a shift toward love and service. And that's the final chord. Across all sources, the message is consistent: the purpose of consciousness is evolution. Not technological or biological, but vibrational. We are here to raise our frequency, reduce entropy, and harmonize with the larger consciousness system. The method? Unconditional love and selfless service. This episode invites you to reconsider everything—from the music you hear to the thoughts you think—as part of a cosmic composition. You are not just a listener. You are a note. A radiant tone in the divine chord. Are you in tune?
Today I am covering two sayings in the Gospel of Thomas. Sayings 34 and 35. I am doing this because they are short, and they are making the same point. They are also very similar to sayings that we find in the New Testament gospels. For that reason, the difference in interpretation of these sayings really is a matter of context. Here are the two sayings as found in the Gospel of Thomas: Jesus said, "If a blind person leads a blind person, both of them will fall into a hole." Jesus said, "One can't enter a strong person's house and take it by force without tying his hands. Then one can loot his house.”View Marshall's books here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marshall-Davis/author/B001K8Y0RU

Today I am going to cover two sayings in the Gospel of Thomas, sayings 32 and 33. There are actually three sayings in these two verses. One about being built on a mountaintop, one about shouting from a housetop, and one about shining from a tabletop. I am grouping them together because they have the same theme and in the canonical gospels they are found together. And they are all about how the nondual Reality of the Kingdom of God shines forth for all to see. Here are the sayings: Jesus said, "A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden." Jesus said, "Preach from your housetops that which you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light."View Marshall's books here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marshall-Davis/author/B001K8Y0RU

This is Part 1 of our 4-part A Back to School Series on Live Vedanta. From navigating loneliness and evolving friendships to maintaining family connections from a distance, this conversation offers Vedantik tools for clarity and self-rootedness during young adulthood. Whether you're starting college or simply stepping into a new chapter, this episode reminds you that even through change, you can grow with intention and connection. In this episode, Sumanji sits down with Akshaya to explore what it means to live away from home while staying anchored within. Having grown up always hearing from his parents, “we want you to be happy, we want you to be independent,” Sumanji strove to do just that in all the ways society and the world had to offer. Leaving medical school in hopes of achieving more fulfillment through a career in IT, Sumanji found himself still wanting, wondering what it meant to be truly happy, truly independent. It was clear happiness was what everyone desired for themselves and each other, but it remained ever elusive. It was then that Sumanji went to his first Satsang in Pittsburgh, PA, and met Shri Vivek Gupta, who shared with him the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta. Convinced and compelled that he, too, could experience this for himself, Suman joined the two-year residential Vedanta course under the guidance of Pujya Swami Prakashananda at Chinmaya Mission's ashram in Trinidad & Tobago.Returning in 2018, Sumanji now lives in Providence, RI, where he works full-time as an Information Technology Manager. He serves Chinmaya Mission Niagara and Cleveland through various classes and study groups, traveling every opportunity he gets to share the message that gave his life meaning: that perpetual, independent joy is one's nature.Register to be a part of our Seeking Culture CommUnity for young adults.Edited by Dhruv Panicker.Follow Seeking Culture on Instagram

What if the deepest structures of mind and cosmos were one and the same? Could the mystery of consciousness be illuminated through the physics of black holes, the archetypes of Jung, or the eternal ideas of Plato? This conversation with Dr. Todd Desmond, philosopher of mind and consciousness, ventures into that threshold. Dr. Desmond's work investigates singularity as both a physical and psychological reality, drawing connections between philosophy, depth psychology, and cosmology. Together we follow the strange symmetry that links psyche and singularity — from Einstein's equations to Jung's archetypes, from Hegel's Absolute Idea to the holographic principle.Along the way, we consider whether the self itself might be understood as a singularity, what this implies for synchronicity and kairos, and how myth, art, and philosophy open new ways of conceiving the real.At the centre of this dialogue lies a question that reverberates through both science and spirit: is the mind a black hole?00:14 – What is a Singularity?03:48 – Black Holes & Physics07:21 – Jung, Pauli & Mirror Symmetry13:29 – Mathematical Forms & Ideas16:01 – Psyche = Singularity?20:09 – Hegel's Absolute Idea24:45 – The Self as Singularity28:20 – Science Fiction & Plexity36:14 – Myth, Cosmology & Science40:06 – Vedanta, Atman & Brahman50:55 – Wheeler's One Electron1:01:04 – Hegel, Jung & Mandala1:07:14 – Jung's Near-Death Experience1:13:42 – Holographic Principle1:20:56 – Black Hole Wars1:27:16 – Synchronicity & Kairos1:34:42 – Art & Metamorphosis1:40:06 – Heaven on Earth
Send us a textHow do you know you're not insane? In this profound and mind-bending conversation, host Lira Ndifon sits down with author and philosopher Justin Witte to discuss his lifelong journey with a rare organic brain disorder and his book, The Shadowed Soul. Justin offers a rare, first-hand account of living with a thought disorder like schizophrenia, explaining how he uses ancient philosophy and modern science to navigate a mind that overproduces dopamine. This episode is a courageous look beyond the veil of "normalcy" to question the very nature of reality itself.Justin challenges the core of our beliefs, arguing that in a world of paradoxes, the only thing any of us can truly know is our own consciousness—the simple awareness of "I am". He shares how he has used single-pointed concentration meditation to gain control over his mind, manage his symptoms, and find peace in a brain that was once overwhelmingly loud. This is not just a discussion about mental health; it's a guide to separating your true self from the chaos of your thoughts. This is a must-listen for anyone who has ever felt controlled by their own mind. You will discover:The Inner Workings of Schizophrenia: A clear, lived-experience explanation of a thought disorder versus a mood disorder, and the impact of dopamine-blocking medication. The Paradox of Sanity: Why most "sane" people can't question their own sanity and how we all believe things that aren't true. The Power of "I Am": Learn about the Vedantic concept that our true, unchanging self is pure consciousness, and that identifying with our body and mind is the source of all our problems.Meditation as Medicine: How Justin uses the practice of Trataka to empty his mind, abate delusions, and train his brain for profound mental control. This conversation is an invitation to look beyond your labels and diagnoses and connect with the one thing that never changes: the witness within. If this episode challenged you to think deeper, please show your support by liking, following, and subscribing to the Self-Reflection Podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and wherever you listen. Broadly speaking, there are to archetypical non-dual traditions, two very valid paths to bliss: The Non-Duality of Total Negation (Classical Advaita) & Kālī's Non-Duality of Total Acceptance (i.e Tāntrik Non-Duality or paramadvāya). Of course there are infinite shades of nuance and variation in between these two extremes. In this talk, we do a comparison of these two extreme models (or rather, flavor)s of non-dual Sādhanā, playing off of some ideas from last week's “Who Should Worship Kālī? | Dakṣiṇa Kālī vs Smaśāna Kālī” talk! This lecture is mostly a theoretical survey of the absolute state of realization which can anyone anywhere can attained through grace (i.e, sudden spontaneous insight) of course, but which is more likely to be a result of sincere spiritual practice! As for the practical side of this discussion, you might like to pair this talk with the What Do You Need To Start Worshipping Kālī & Practicing Tantra? lecture from two weeks ago! PS: you might find this lecture somewhat reminiscent of Who Created The World? | Vedanta vs Tantra and also Who or What is God? | Vedanta vs Tantra but we've certainly developed the ideas quite a bit since then! Spirituality can be a powerful force for healing, but what happens when it becomes a mask for avoidance? In this conversation, our guest Ananta Ripa Ajmera explores the rising phenomenon of spiritual bypassing: using spiritual language to escape responsibility, dismiss effort as “divine timing,” or rationalize inaction as destiny.Ananta offers radical responsibility as the antidote: taking full ownership of our choices and recognizing that karma shapes every dimension of life. Drawing on Ayurveda and her own wisdom, she explains how true healing requires more than herbs and therapies; it demands selfless service, emotional honesty, and courage to face our inner wounds.Episode HighlightsSpiritual Bypassing and InactivityReal Meaning of Navratri Karma, Forgiveness, and ServiceBhagavat Gita and Krishna's LessonsThe Path of Radical ResponsibilityTimestamps00:00 – 09:45: Introduction and Spiritual Bypassing09:45 – 22:12: The Goddess Journey Through Chakras22:12 – 24:41: New Beginnings, Forgiveness, and Service24:42 – 31:44: The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita31:45 – 36:52: Friendship with the Self and the Power of Truth36:53 – 42:23: Conflict as Medicine and the Practice of Sthitaprajna42:23 – 51:57: The Path of Radical Responsibility51:57 – 01:01:12: The Essence of Spiritual HealingAbout Ananta Ripa Ajmera A spiritual teacher and 10-time award-winning, 2-time bestselling author of The Way of the Goddess and The Ayurveda Way.
