This episode explores the 24th saying of Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas. His disciples said, "Show us the place where you are, for we must seek it." He said to them, "Anyone here with two ears had better listen! There is light within a person of light, and it shines on the whole world. If it does not shine, it is dark."This saying is about the spiritual search for the Eternal Christ. Jesus disciples say to him, "Show us the place where you are, for we must seek it.” In answering their inquiry Jesus directs them to what the Quakers call the Inner Light. View Marshall's books here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marshall-Davis/author/B001K8Y0RU

As a new generation joins the search for understanding and meaning in our ambiguous and uncertain world, there's a growing resurgence of interest in the Shadow—Carl Jung's famous term for the aspects of ourselves that hide in our unconscious yet often drive behaviors we'd rather not repeat. In this podcast, Tami Simon speaks with acclaimed Jungian therapist and author Dr. Connie Zweig about her life's mission to help us grow in self-awareness and move toward personal and collective healing by learning how to work with the Shadow.  This aha-moment-filled conversation explores: meeting the Shadow on the spiritual path; ego formation during childhood; the concept of repression and the problem with the closet metaphor; why the Shadow hides—and when it erupts; "romancing the Shadow"; three cues to explore with respect to compulsive behaviors; "Shadow characters" and the practice of personifying aspects of the Shadow; the intergenerational aspect; engaging Shadow work at midlife; the superego; projection in relationships; sharing our secrets; money, sex, and power; shifting from a persona marriage to a Shadow marriage; the Vedanta tradition and the teaching on leshavidya, "the remains of ignorance"; the moral development missing in many spiritually advanced practitioners; illusions, idealizations, and archetypal projections; why the first reaction to meeting the Shadow is denial; Shadow projection in the politics of our times; step one: self-examination; bridging inner work and outer work wisely; how to practice "holding the tension of opposites"; cultivating nonduality in your own psychology; the "third thing" and the transcendent function; and more. Welcome to Top of the Morning by Mint.. I'm Nelson John and here are today's top stories. Red Alert: North India in a Heatwave Grip North India is reeling under a severe heatwave, with Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan placed under a red alert. Temperatures are soaring 5°C above normal, with Delhi's heat index touching 45.5°C and Rajasthan's Ganganagar hitting a blistering 48°C, the highest in the country. The India Meteorological Department blames the heat on a lack of thunderstorms and an anti-cyclonic system parked over the region. Relief is expected only after June 14, with light rain and gusty winds likely to bring a 2–4°C dip. Meanwhile, the south is facing the opposite extreme—Karnataka and coastal Maharashtra are under red alert for heavy rains, and Kerala and Tamil Nadu are bracing for extremely heavy downpours from June 14 to 17.  India's Big Nuclear Bet: Small Reactors, Big Goals India's nuclear journey just took a strategic leap—with Bharat Small Reactors (BSRs) leading the charge. Heavyweights like Reliance, Adani, Vedanta, Indian Railways, and JSW are onboard, powering a plan to build compact 220-MWe reactors for captive industrial use. The government's pitch: private players fund it, NPCIL runs it, and post-commissioning, the plant is handed to NPCIL for ₹1—while the user keeps the power. At least five BSRs are targeted by 2033, as India aims to scale nuclear capacity from 8.78 GW to 100 GW by 2047. Why now? Rising power needs from AI, crypto, and industrial growth demand low-carbon, stable energy. Nuclear fits the bill—and India is betting big on going small. Wheat Stays Home: India Stands by Export Ban Even with a record wheat harvest of 115.4 million tonnes expected this season, India is keeping its wheat export ban in place. In a WTO submission, the government cited food security concerns for itself and neighbouring nations. Imposed in May 2022, the ban has sharply reduced exports—from 4.7 million tonnes in FY23 to just 2,749 tonnes this fiscal. Only diplomatic and humanitarian shipments have been allowed. The government says global volatility, inflation risks, and upcoming festivals and state polls demand price stability. Critics argue it disrupts supply chains, especially after the Russia-Ukraine war hurt global grain flows. But for now, India's wheat isn't going anywhere.  Adani's ₹2.5 Trillion Playbook “We only do two things—energy and logistics,” says Sagar Adani, and that's exactly where the Adani Group is putting its money. The conglomerate plans to raise ₹2.5 trillion ($30 billion) over the next five years to fund a $100-billion capex spree. Even as the group navigates US investigations and controversies, it's doubling down with ₹1.3–1.7 trillion in annual investments, largely in infrastructure and clean energy. Adani Green, copper and aluminium expansions, a planned demerger of the airports business by FY28, and a mega cement merger are all part of the game plan. With low-cost power and transport as their advantage, and 20% of India's private capex under their belt, the Adanis are clearly not slowing down—they're powering through. This episode covers the twenty-third saying of Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas. Jesus says: "I shall choose you, one from a thousand and two from ten thousand, and they will stand as a single one." Here is a slightly different translation: "I shall choose you, one out of a thousand, and two out of ten thousand, and you shall stand as a single one." This verse deals with the rarity of spiritual awakening and the nature of spiritual awakening. In discussing the nature of awakening I will explore the three spiritual stages of life leading to awakening.  View Marshall's books here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marshall-Davis/author/B001K8Y0RU

Send us a textThe concept of a single truth with multiple spiritual pathways is often viewed as controversial in religious circles. Many spiritual traditions make exclusive claims about being the only pathway to truth, creating a dichotomy between those who are "saved" and those who aren't.• Exclusive spiritual paths can make followers feel special but may actually create delusion and keep people bound to samsara• Many religious institutions claim to be the only place to find truth or realization• Vedanta accepts various pathways including Abrahamic religions because they contain elements of faith and devotion• Consciousness is fundamental to our experience and shapes our world depending on its relationship with mind• Multiple valid spiritual approaches exist: devotional practices (chanting, puja), intellectual understanding, karma yoga (observing our actions)• Nobody can follow any single spiritual path 24/7 – we naturally incorporate multiple approaches• Those claiming exclusivity often remain heavily invested in the material world they claim is temporary• Spiritual exclusivity often leads to arrogance and ego rather than humility• If the One became many, it's logical that many paths would lead back to the OneLike this video or podcast, comment, subscribe and follow me on social media. Send us a textStep into the raw, powerful journey of Justin, a guest returning to the Self Reflection Podcast, as he joins host Lira Ndifon for an unvarnished conversation on mental health. Justin Witte, author of "The Shadowed Soul" and "A Vicious Cycle," shares his extraordinary experience navigating a life marked by profound childhood abuse, chronic suicidal depression, and a litany of diagnoses including schizoaffective bipolar type, ADHD, dyslexia, PTSD, and an organic brain disorder. Now 19 years sober, Justin reveals how self-reflection, a radical shift in perspective, and the ancient practice of meditation (specifically Chautaka or single-pointed concentration) became his roadmap to rewiring his brain and finding inner peace, even when traditional medications failed. This episode fearlessly confronts the escalating mental health crisis, particularly among men. Lira cites jarring statistics: in 2022, men died by suicide 3.85 times more often than women, with white men accounting for 68.46% of these deaths. Suicide was the 11th leading cause of death in America, with 49,476 lives lost and an estimated 1.6 million attempts. Justin unpacks complex societal factors contributing to this crisis, including the isolating impact of technology, shifting gender roles, economic pressures requiring higher education, and the often-unacknowledged struggles of men in modern society. He argues that the increasing disconnect from genuine human interaction and the curated realities of social media exacerbate feelings of worthlessness and contribute to the alarming rise in depression and anxiety. Justin offers profound insights into the nature of suffering, panic attacks, and the illusion of external reality, drawing from his unique blend of personal experience, Western science, and Eastern philosophies like Vedanta. He vividly describes the terrifying grip of panic attacks and how he overcame them through focused meditation, emphasizing the neuroplasticity of the human brain. This conversation is a vital call for empathy and action, urging listeners to seek support if struggling, and to embrace the transformative power of self-expression and connection. The twenty-second saying of Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas is the clearest example of Christian nonduality that we have in any gospel. Some of these metaphors in this passage are familiar to us from other sayings in the Gospel of Thomas, as well as similar sayings in the canonical gospels. Others we have not come across before. Jesus saw some babies nursing. He said to his disciples, "These nursing babies are like those who enter the kingdom." They said to him, "Then shall we enter the kingdom as babies?" Jesus said to them, "When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter the kingdom."View Marshall's books here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marshall-Davis/author/B001K8Y0RU

This immersive meditation uses the metaphor of a tree to guide us through the illusion of separation and the quiet journey back to our true nature. Through poetic reflection and direct felt experience, we explore how thought becomes identity, how suffering arises through forgetting, and how, like the tree, we can return to the peace that never left us. A powerful invitation to simplify 'enlightenment', to see clearly the dualistic nature of thought, and to remember yourself home. Please forgive my use of “it” when referring to the tree in this meditation. For the sake of clarity in the visualization, our more-than-human kin was momentarily framed as an “it”—but this is a limitation of language, not of truth. I hope it doesn't distract from the deeper message of interconnectedness and remembrance. Thank you for being present in this space and for holding these words for a moment - may they be of use to anyone suffering, lost, or unsure right now. Much Love, SezSupport the show✨ If you'd like to explore more of my work, whilst deepening your connection to the truth of who you are, you can find weekly, unpublished poems & audio essays on my Substack, and find supportive courses on my website and Insight Timer. The twentieth saying of Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas is one that is familiar to Christians who have read the canonical gospels. It is known as the parable of the Mustard Seed. Thomas' version goes like this:The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us what the kingdom of Heaven is like." He said to them, "It's like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, but when it falls on prepared soil, it produces a large plant and becomes a shelter for birds of heaven."At first hearing it may sound identical to the New Testament parable. But listen again. Here is the version found in the Gospel of Luke. Pay attention to the differences. Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”They sound similar, but the small differences make a big difference. Let's look at the differences and what they teach us about the Kingdom of Heaven, which is Jesus' term for Divine Awareness.View Marshall's books here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marshall-Davis/author/B001K8Y0RU

Last week, to celebrate Easter, we gave a special talk on the Sermon of the Mount from a Tantrik point of view. Not only is the Sermon on the Mount an excellent piece of spiritual literature which like the Gītā essentializes and makes practical the highest spiritual teachings of all time but also, there is a beautiful book by a similar title: "The Sermon on the Mount according to Vedanta" by Swami Prabhavananda. As such, in this talk, we reference some profound insights from that book, give them a Tantrik spin and also make a few broad points about the Avatara in Tantrik theology. It is a wonderful talk to put out around Akshaya Tritiya because it covers the most fundamental and yet deepest and most profound of spiritual ideas in both theory and practice. I pray the ideas in this discussion will ground you and remind you of what is most important in spiritual life and inspire you to live according to the highest of ideals!Jai Mā!
