(13) Peter Berkowitz examines two distinct intellectual critiques of the United States as it approaches its 250th anniversary: the postmodern progressives and the post-liberal right. The progressives argue that America is mired in systemic oppression and that its founding principles are the actual cause of its problems. The post-liberal right, conversely, views the nation as decadent and corrupt because it fails to recognize a higher religious authority. Both groups advocate for fundamental changes, with the right-wing critique specifically calling for the government to take a more active role in leading citizens toward virtue and salvation.1671NEW AMSTERDAM

Every human being wants a framework for a good life, often reducing faith to simply being a moral person, holding the right beliefs, or belonging to a community. But when our willpower fails or our doubts creep in, these superficial definitions leave us exhausted. The gospel subverts our striving by inviting us into a deeply personal union with Christ, where our old, corrupted self is crucified so that the living God can take up residence within us. In this sermon, we explore Galatians 2:20 and what it means for Christianity to be personal.

With many of our foundations in reason and Enlightenment-era thinking, Unitarian Universalists often struggle with mystery. We're often averse to things we might perceive as stories and beliefs that present as "supernatural." But what if "real" and "not real" is a false binary? Perhaps we're not asking the right questions when it comes to grappling with the unexplainable. About Cameron Young (they/them) Cameron is a lifelong Texan and Unitarian Universalist- prior to assuming the position as Lead for the UUA Southern Region Congregational Life staff, Cameron worked as field staff since 2019. Before joining the UUA, Cameron served as a lifespan religious educator in Fort Worth, Texas. Cameron has a Bachelor of Music from Louisiana State University and a Master of Divinity at Brite Divinity School where they graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Sexual and Gender Justice certificate and the prestigious Walker Preaching Scholarship- they are currently a candidate for UU Ministry. A professional musician and classically trained singer, Cameron has performed in numerous operas and musicals, is a member and co-founder of the singing group Uptown Carolers and recorded with Grammy award winner Leon Bridges on his debut album. In their spare time, Cameron is an avid traveler, diehard fan of DFW sports teams, and devoted coffee drinker.

It's Witness Wednesday! At Georgia Tech, Todd Friel asks students simple questions that expose how unclear many people are about God, salvation, sin, and truth. Todd walks each conversation back to the same biblical foundation: God is holy, sinners are guilty, Jesus is the only Savior, and the biblical response is repentance and faith. Segment 1 • A Southern Baptist student says Christianity is about “accepting Jesus into your heart”—but Todd challenges whether that language is even biblical. • Is Christianity just about avoiding hell… or surrendering your entire life to Christ? • Physics student Chris says all religions are incomplete—so Todd asks the unavoidable question: what if Christianity is actually true? Segment 2 — Chris: All Religions Can't Be Right • Chris struggles with the idea that people from other religions could go to hell—but Todd redirects the conversation to guilt before a holy God. • The “good person” test exposes lying, lust, dishonoring parents, and blasphemy—so what happens if God judges your thoughts too? • Todd explains substitution, imputed righteousness, and why Jesus doesn't merely help sinners… He completely saves them. Segment 3 — Rebel Since Birth… But Saved From What? • A group of young men wear Christian imagery and talk about leadership, strength, and “being different”—but can any of them explain the gospel? • A Catholic student says heaven is earned through kindness and good deeds… until Todd puts everyone in God's courtroom. • “Everyone lies” becomes the defense—but Todd presses the terrifying reality that universal guilt still means personal guilt. Segment 4 — Spiritual, Postmodern, and Still Guilty • A mechanical engineering student says he's “spiritual” and believes Jesus is God—but also thinks different religions can all work for different people. • Todd dismantles postmodern thinking with one simple analogy: calling a dumpster “turkey jerky” doesn't change what it actually is. • The episode ends with a direct gospel appeal: Jesus alone satisfies justice, forgives sinners, and gives the righteousness nobody can earn. ___ Thanks for listening! Every human being is a disciple or a learner, constantly shaped and trained by the culture around us — from the algorithms on our phones to the expectations of our family of origin or careers. In this sermon, we explore what it means to be a disciple who understands, trains, and shares the ancient and new promises of the gospel.

The 20th century's discovery of LSD and subsequent use of various psychedelics in both therapeutic practice and popular culture has been a deeply transformational event in modern civilization. It has carried the power of a collective initiatory rite of passage, yet often without an adequately containing ritual structure, indigenous wisdom tradition, or clinical knowledge to mediate that transformation. * In this episode CIIS Professor Emeritus and cultural historian Richard Tarnas examines the larger historical and evolutionary context that brought forth the psychedelic awakening of the 1950s and 1960s. He explores the work of therapists and researchers Stansilav Grof and C. G. We often feel an urgent pressure to "fix" the world by taking matters into our own hands. Yet Jesus, through the parable of the wheat and weeds, offers a path of hopeful realism. In this sermon, we explore the nature of hopeful realism as the kingdom develops from small beginnings into a global harvest.

A fruitful life comes from standing under the word of God.Every human is listening to someone or something. And how we listen to the word of God makes all the difference. In this sermon, we explore Jesus' famous Parable of the Sower, which shows what happens when the seed of the gospel lands on the soil of our hearts. In this parable, Jesus teaches that a fruitful life comes from standing under the word of God. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.Series Description: Jesus is the hero of all of Scripture, the center of the biblical story, and the most important figure in history. The Gospel of Matthew gives us a firsthand look at the life and teachings of Jesus. It stands as a “bridge” between the Old and New Testaments, grounding us in the rich story of Israel while revealing the in-breaking reality of the kingdom of heaven. Through this preaching series, we seek to help people encounter the gospel of the kingdom and embody it as flourishing disciples who live under the gracious rule of God.

Segment 1 • Lots of us in the south cancelled gathering last Sunday due to inclement weather - and there are spiritual consequences to skipping church. • Church isn't something we do just to do - it's a weekly realignment of our lives. • Even when gathering is hard, faithful churches find creative ways to feed their flocks. Segment 2 • Kevin DeYoung models how to preach a one-off sermon with clarity, structure, and gospel power. • Biblical preaching must consider the genre of the text. Historical narrative, poetry, wisdom, and gospels don't all preach the exact same. • The aim in good preaching isn't just increasing knowledge, but to draw sinners to Christ as we learn more about him and are conformed to His image. Segment 3 • Disturbing church protests raise questions for parents: what if your child is trapped in the chaos? • Churches must prepare now — when agitators disrupt worship, there won't be time to get ready. • Comparing violent protests to Jesus cleansing the temple is biblical malpractice. Segment 4 • Churches are absorbing secular values — “Flamy Grant” drag shows prove it's more than a trend. • Postmodern self-expression is replacing reverence for biblical truth in pulpits and pews. • As persecution rises globally, now's the time to clarify our mission: be holy, not popular. ___ Thanks for listening! Saving American Liberty, Session 7 During the 20th century, or the Modern Era, material conditions were king, but as the Information Era of the 21st century (construed broadly) emerged, they have become less important to our politics. At the New Discourses-hosted Saving American Liberty conference held in Dallas, Texas, on August 22-23, 2025, founder of New Discourses, James Lindsay, explains in this important fourth lecture how thinking changed as the Modern Era gave way to an Information Era many consider to be "Postmodern." Continuing from his previous lecture in the series, Lindsay explains that "Woke" sociognostic thinking evolved along with this change, which can be characterized by a transition from thinking man is produced by his material conditions to believing he is produced by his social (structural) conditions, which "Woke" radicals need to seize in order to remake man in their own images.
