On this, our 301st Evolutionary Lens livestream, we discuss grief and mourning, and what makes us human. How many distinctly human traits will we prune away before we realize that we have gone too far, that there is too little remaining of humanity to be resurrected? From the Industrial Revolution(s) to that of AI, now we've got apps that threaten to keep your loved ones “alive” forever, with none of the valuable complexity that ancient grieving traditions offer. Then: bonobos show evidence of language use that is emergent—in which combinations of sounds mean more than the sum of their parts. And: all of the ostriches at Universal Ostrich Farm in British Columbia have been slaughtered, per a court order, despite there being no public or individual health justification for doing so.*****Our sponsors:Timeline: Accelerate the clearing of damaged mitochondria to improve strength and endurance: Go to http://www.timeline.com/darkhorse and use code darkhorse for 20% off your first order.Caraway: Non-toxic & beautiful cookware. In this episode, I sit down with my good friend Jesse Elder for one of the most raw, unfiltered, and important conversations I've had in a long time. So many brilliant coaches struggle to build a profitable business—not because they lack skill or heart, but because the game has changed. And most people are still trying to win using a rulebook that stopped working years ago. Jesse and I get into all of it. Highlights from the Conversation • The "authenticity apocalypse" Why AI is going to wipe out every coach who's faking it—and why the real, grounded, embodied coaches will rise to the top. • Blending spiritual wisdom with strategic precision How to integrate deep inner work with the practical actions that actually grow a business. • Money as oxygen Jesse's philosophy on treating money like breath, and the wild story of what happened when he gave away millions. • The real spiritual path Why starting a business will grow you spiritually faster than sitting in a cave, doing breathwork, or reading 200 self-help books. • What humans can do that AI never will The enduring advantage we'll always have—and why coaches who understand this will dominate the next decade. A Key Insight I Share in This Episode One thing I tell my clients all the time: If you want real spiritual growth, don't go meditate in a cave. Go start a business. Because business will show you every fear, every story, every insecurity, every belief you've been avoiding… and force you to confront all of it. That's where the real transformation happens. This conversation goes deep into the mindset and energetic foundations of sustainable success—the kind where you hit your income goals and actually love your life. Connect with Jesse Elder Follow Jesse here: https://www.facebook.com/timepiercer Important Note Results discussed in this episode are not typical. Building a successful coaching business requires dedication, skill development, consistent implementation, and often professional guidance. No income guarantees are expressed or implied.

Send us a textWhat if the comfort you chase is the thing holding you back from real resilience? We sit down with Jay Carson—veteran of U.S. politics, creator behind House of Cards and The Morning Show, and now executive director of the Boulder Outdoor Survival School—to unpack how a minimalist 14-day course can reset your inner compass. From a pandemic power outage that felt apocalyptic to making friction fires and sleeping without a bag, Jay shares the skills and mindset that turned fear into capability. We explore the philosophy behind Boss: keep the gear list short, keep the learning deep, and move often enough that comfort can't calcify. Jay explains why “compare down” cuts anxiety, how survival priorities put shelter and fire ahead of food, and why discomfort isn't danger. If you've wondered whether you're fit enough, his answer might surprise you. Baseline fitness helps, but head and heart make the difference—especially on specialised tracks like the Hunter-Gatherer course where, if you don't find it, you don't eat it.There's history and scope here too. Boss has operated since 1968 across nearly a million permitted acres in southern Utah, taking students from desert scrub to high forest in a single day's walk. Jay connects those landscapes to his own, tracing a line from 9/11 and an anthrax exposure to a deeper need for nature's grounding. He also previews his forthcoming book built on survival priorities—part backcountry guide, part life manual—aimed at anyone ready to rethink comfort, risk, and what truly matters. If this conversation sparks something in you, subscribe, share the show with a friend who needs a reset, and leave a quick review. Are rising ADHD diagnoses caused by genetics or by our modern environment? This clip explores how dopamine, attention, and lifestyle interact in today's overstimulated world. This discussion focuses on whether ADHD stems from inherited traits or if modern habits, like constant phone use, social media, and quick dopamine hit , are influencing attention and focus. Sarah shares her own recent ADHD diagnosis and reflects on how evolutionary factors may have once made these traits beneficial for survival. The conversation also delves into dopamine regulation, the challenges of deep work in a distraction-filled environment, and the importance of self-awareness in managing focus and energy levels.***This episode is sponsored by: NOWATCH: Health tracking reimaginedKnow your body, trust yourself.15% off with code LWBW15 at nowatch.com***Sign up to Sarah's Compassionate Cure newsletter: Science Simplified, Health Humanised. His new memo still sounds the alarm about Carbon, but also privileges his pet projects of vaccinating the world and handing agriculture to the technologists. From the cold lands of Gothenburg, Sweden, Avatar emerged in 2001 — a band that has evolved into one of the most visually striking, theatrical, and poetically dark forces in modern metal. While often labeled as melodic death metal or avant-garde metal, their essence draws heavily from gothic rock and dark cabaret, echoing the spirits of Marilyn Manson, The Sisters of Mercy, and Bauhaus.

Once, a long time ago, the night sky was our ceiling. The forest was our shelter. The hunt, was our heartbeat. Before empires, before machines, before the grid… there was only man, his will, and the wild.“They” were the first survivors. The Hunter-Gatherers. Men and women who moved like shadows through endless forests. Tracking, foraging, trapping, fighting for every bite of life. They didn't need electricity. They didn't need convenience. And Survival, was their language. Then, came the cities. The noise. The illusion of safety. We forgot what it meant to live by instinct. We traded skills for comfort and electric light and for the glow of our screens. But comfort is fragile and when it crumbles, only the old ways remain.Imagine, the grid goes down. The world goes dark. The hum of the powerlines and Air Conditioners goes quiet. Civilization stumbles, and somewhere in that silence… something ancient stirs awake inside us. The pulse of the wild. The call of survival. The blood memory, of those who came before us.The future, now belongs to those who remember the past. Those who can track, and forage, and fight, for life itself. Those who can once again become ,the hunter-gatherer.Tonight, we dive into that world, as Jeremy, an avid Hunter, brings truth and reality to what it takes to be a Hunter-Gatherer during an SHTF event. If we want to survive, we must learn and master the lessons of our ancestors, and how their way of life may just be the key to surviving the collapse of our own.TOPSBunker.com Please Visit Our Affiliate Links to Find Great Preparedness Products:The Total Deer Hunter Manual - Field & Stream Flexibound BookHunting & Survival Manual - Field & Stream PaperbackSimplest Guide To Whitetail Deer Hunting - PaperbackThe Trappers Bible - Complete Guide - PaperbackBushnell Powerview 10x50mm Instafocus Binoculars RealtreeVortex Otics Solo 10x25mm Monocular Fog & Water ProofKNINE Outdoors Hunting Field Dress Kit 12 pcArcticShield Elite Cold-Weather Parka - RealTree EdgeArcticShield Heat Echo Sherpa Bib - RealTree EdgeWalkers Razor Slim Ultra Low Profile Electronic Hearing ProtectionWolf Tactical Drop-Leg Holster - Pistol Army GreenHotHands Body & Hand Super Warmers - 18hrs 10 PackHME 3-Color Camo Face Paint - No Glare Black Brown GreenNorth Mountain Gear Woodland Camo Ghillie Suit - 3D LeafMuddy 1-Person Huntsman Deluxe Tree Stand 17' Tall 300lb CapTLC Sport Hunting Blind Pop-Up 360 See Thru Design RealTreeMusicSupport the show
Today we discuss Harvard, higher ed, public health, AI, and political cheating. Harvard has announced the suspension of several graduate programs, as well as hiring and other budget freezes, claiming poverty due to the suspension of federal grants. But Harvard's revenue last year was $6.7 billion, and their losses amount to 1.7% of that. Meanwhile, Trump wants Harvard to run trade schools. Then: vaccinologist Paul Offit admits that natural immunity was always superior to vaccine-induced immunity—if you survived the infection—but that this was not a matter of public health policy because Americans couldn't handle the nuance. And: Google's AI fabricated a criminal history, and is now being sued. "I struggled to complete the fifth pushup, and I was horrified because it used to be 50 on my knuckles per set. What happened to me?" - Eric Edmeades I've been fascinated by ancestral nutrition since my early days studying with Dr. Loren Cordain, but nothing prepared me for what I learned from Eric Edmeades, who has spent 15 years living with the Hadza people in Tanzania. As an honorary member of one of the last true hunter-gatherer tribes, Eric has witnessed firsthand what our bodies were designed for—and why our modern approach to ancestral health for women is missing critical pieces. His insights about their three-day limit on depression, their natural relationship with food scarcity and abundance, and their incredible physical resilience have completely shifted how I think about midlife health challenges. What Eric discovered about their seasonal eating patterns and why they never develop the diseases plaguing our society will make you question everything about your current wellness routine. Pick one "hard thing" and commit to it daily for the next 7 days. Whether it's cold exposure, a challenging exercise (pistol squats, anyone?), or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator – choose something that makes your inner voice say "I don't want to do this." Notice how your relationship with discomfort changes by day seven. What you'll learn: How to unlock your body's three metabolic modes – including the "junk food fall" trap that keeps most women stuck in weight gain cycles Why the Hadza people don't experience depression beyond three days – and the simple movement solution that could transform your mental health The truth about executive function – how modern comfort is literally rewiring your brain for weakness (and what to do about it) How seasonal eating patterns can reset your metabolism – without restrictive dieting or counting calories Why "doing hard things" isn't just motivational fluff – the neuroscience behind building unshakeable confidence through physical challenges The missing link in most exercise routines – how to move like your ancestors to boost lymphatic flow and prevent disease How to break free from the "zoo mentality" – combining ancestral wisdom with modern convenience for optimal health span The surprising connection between adventure and longevity – what anthropologists discovered about comfort versus vitality Love the Podcast? Today we give a tribute to Charlie Kirk: who he was, how he engaged with people, and what we lost when we lost him. Today we discuss MAHA, vaccines, Covid, autism, and ostriches. Senator Ron Johnson held a hearing on the corruption of science, at which Jake Scott (MD), Toby Rogers (PhD), and lawyer Aaron Siri testified about vaccine safety testing and the relationship between vaccines and autism. The new MAHA Strategy report attributes poor diet, aggregation of environmental chemicals, lack of physical activity, chronic stress, and overmedicalization to the decline in children's health. Meanwhile, people who have been fooled by the fear campaign celebrate getting their newest Covid boosters. And in Canada, ostriches are at risk of being killed because of a misunderstanding of immunity, but people are fighting back. National Health System official data, entire population, Pescara province, Italy Followed from June 2021 (six months after the first vaccination) to December 2023. 296,015 residents aged ≥11 years Hospital admission with a cancer diagnosis, 3,124 16.6% were unvaccinated 83.3% received ≥1 dose 62.2% ≥3 doses. Compared with the unvaccinated, those receiving ≥1 dose showed a significantly lower likelihood of all-cause death Cancer hospitalization was significant only among the subjects with no previous SARS-CoV-2 infection Some cancer risks went down after 1 year (relative to 180 days) (But breast, ovarian and bladder went up at one year relative to 180 days after 1 vaccine dose) Given that it was not possible to quantify the potential impact of the healthy vaccinee bias and unmeasured confounders, these findings are inevitably preliminary.
Today we discuss RFK Jr. the CDC, autism and trans activism. Kennedy revealed this week that in 2002, the CDC destroyed data that showed that children who got the MMR vaccine before 36 months of age had far higher rates of autism than did those who get the vaccine later in life. An HHS report will soon be released that ties Tylenol use during pregnancy to autism—what does this tell us about past public health advice, safety and risk? How can we all become better at pattern recognition? Florida Surgeon General Joe Ladapo is moving away from vaccine mandates for all citizens, while the governors of the three West coast states are conflating “science” with “ideology” while pining for a Covid-era-style CDC. In trans land: comedy writer Graham Linehan was arrested for saying mean things on-line, while trans-activists are not arrested when they threaten to kick and punch those who don't believe that men can become women. We explore the mental illness of trans-deluded people, and discuss Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk's oldest son, who thinks he's a girl.*****Our sponsors:Timeline: Accelerate the clearing of damaged mitochondria to improve strength and endurance: Go to http://www.timeline.com/darkhorse and use code darkhorse for 10% off your order.Manukora: the most flavorful, delicious, and nutritious honey you'll ever have. Today we discuss the dust-up at the CDC, in which RFK Jr. fires the new director, after which other CDC officials resign, and eight former directors of the CDC pen a letter to the New York Times (as does Bernie Sanders) arguing that Kennedy is a hazard to our health. This follows a reveal from months ago that industry was collaborating to get rid of Kennedy. Also: What does Trump now think of Operation Warp Speed? How has industrialization affected our health? How are the words “vaccine” and “terrorist” being used in Orwellian ways? Is Kennedy a secret eugenicist, or is he—in fact—exactly the opposite? Today we discuss childhood, fitness, and self-defense; the through-line is freedom. First up: Illinois has become the first state in the Union to mandate mental health screening for children in grades 3 – 12, so that conditions from trauma to anxiety can be detected early. How mandatory will these screenings be? How confidential? What is anxiety, and why are children better off learning to experience and solve their own anxiety, than to be coddled at every turn? We argue that anxiety—like pain, and sadness—are signals from your brain and body that should be listened to rather than erased. Also: childhood is a time of exploration, of mixing reality with fantasy, and should not be a time when adults' fantasies are imposed on children. Then: the New York Times cannot abide that anything that RFK Jr. does or says makes sense. Finally: do people have the right to defend themselves inside their own homes? Have we forgotten habeas corpus? Are the foundations of democracy coming apart at the seams? *****Our sponsors:Branch Basics: Get 15% off Branch Basics with the code DARKHORSE at https://branchbasics.com/darkhorse #branchbasicspodJolie: Beautiful showerheads that filter out the garbage without reducing water pressure. First: Elon, AI, and humanoid robots, with discussion of sex, the industrial revolution, specialization, the Pleistocene, feminism, men's work, porn, clankers, and vaping. Obviously. Then: are there differences between moral panics and social contagions, and is the current focus on pedophilia one or both? Finally: how widespread is fraud in science? It's not rare, and not merely the result of bad actors. Hunter Gatherer carved out a niche in Athens between approximately 1997 and 2004, folding into the post‑hardcore and emocore wave that was surging at that time. Their music drew equally from punk's intensity and emo's emotive melodies—yet with a poppier, hook-oriented bent, making their sound more accessible than one might expect from that blend. Despite a relatively brief run and limited releases, they made their mark in a vital era for Athens music, resonating with scene contemporaries and contributing to the city's enduring reputation for musical diversity and authenticity. Today we discuss the reasons not to stay in your lane, wildlife in the Pacific Northwest, and whether Americans want a handout, or to be left alone. Then: bald eagles and foxes compete to scavenge seal meat on the shores of the Salish Sea. Meanwhile in Canada, people are told they can't go into the woods. In this episode of The Burn Bag, A'ndre sits down with retired CIA analyst Gina Bennett, who famously authored the first classified warning about Osama bin Laden in 1993. A key voice in the fight against al-Qaeda — and featured in the Netflix documentary Manhunt — Gina reflects on her decades in intelligence and how the U.S. national security system has long understood the nature of threats. Now, she's pushing for a paradigm shift with her Hunter-Gatherer National Security theory — a bold framework that challenges the traditional, militarized view of power and argues that skills like emotional intelligence, civic engagement, and social cohesion are just as vital to national security as military might. Together, A'ndre and Gina explore the deep historical biases embedded in how we define “security,” the concept of evolutionary power, the dangers of neglecting civic education in a democracy, and what a more holistic, evolved security strategy could look like.
Today we discuss “gender affirming surgeries”, AI and the future of cognition, and wild foxes. Kaiser Permanente is pausing surgery on trans-presenting children—we discuss sex and gender, meaning and identity, delusion and madness. Then: unlike the physical multiverse, mental multiverses are common, and becoming more so, as AI makes it ever more difficult to know what is true. We discuss grief, and how our worlds must fork when we think, but do not know, that someone has died. Similarly, when events are unclear—who was responsible for the death of President Kennedy in 1963? Are aliens visiting Earth—we must keep multiple mental universes alive in our heads at once. Correctives to this include meeting people in person, and embracing belief systems that have timeless value. Finally: more wild foxes, this time trying to eat a raccoon carcass. Included: discussion of the evolution of territoriality, parental care, and animal behavior more generally.*****Our sponsors:Masa Chips: Delicious chips made with corn, salt, and beef tallow—nothing else—in loads of great flavors. Dynamic Aging Retreat Oct 3-5 2025This Episode's Show NotesJoin Our Newsletter: Movement Colored GlassesBiomechanist Katy Bowman and biologist Jeannette Loram talk about rucking—walking with weight on your back—and other modes of carrying. They touch on the evolutionary history of carrying, carrying in modern Hunter Gatherer populations, rucking in the military and the benefits of fitness rucking. Jeannette and Katy focus on the challenges associated with rucking particularly pain and discomfort. They explain how different body adjustments—like leaning forward, arching the back, or shifting the hips forward—are responses to offset the backward-pulling force of a heavy load. These shifts help accommodate the extra mass, but if a single adjustment is done repetitively or without muscular support through the core, pain can be the result. Today we discuss Epstein, Trump, MAGA, and how we know what we think we know. The actual economy exists, as does the attention economy; now Bret introduces a new term: the leverage economy. This implies that there is a commodity that we cannot see, which can be used to coerce players to act in certain ways. We see evidence of this in academia, in the news, and in politics. Discussion includes data mining, conspiracy, and whether Trump will pick up neocons as he loses some of his base.*****Our sponsors:Everyday Dose: Coffee plus collagen, mushrooms & nootropics – delicious! Today we discuss YouTube, flash floods, science, and Epstein. First: a head injury explains our late start, but all is fine. Then: four years after being demonetized by YouTube, both of our channels have been remonetized. Why were we demonetized in the first place, and what did we refuse to do to get back in the good graces of YouTube? Also: flash floods are often tragic, but does it inherently follow that they are due to anthropogenic climate change? Similarly, does not believing that mRNA shots will work against Covid mean that you don't believe in Covid? Finally: two competing hypotheses for what is going on with the federal government's newest treatment of Epstein: are they covering for a peace deal in the Middle East, or are they being strong-armed by organized crime? *****Our sponsors:Sundries Farm: Extraordinary hand grown and harvested garlic from a family farm on the volcanic soils of Idaho. Today we discuss sex and vaccines, reality and renegades. First: men can no longer compete in women's sports—from Trump's Executive Order, to the NCAA's response, to William “Lia” Thomas having his records rescinded at Penn, reality is prevailing. Other evidence includes the UK Supreme Court declaring that “man” and “woman” refer to biological reality; and the U.S. Supreme Court writing an opinion that forcing LGBTQ+ books on children in public elementary schools is unconstitutional. Men cannot magically turn into women, nor boys into girls, no matter what they believe or are told. Then: from the ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) to Vinay Prasad's latest presentation at the FDA: the federal government is being populated by a combination of true renegades and middle ground scramblers who are dressed like renegades. A good toolkit for understanding how to make sense of the claims being made is necessary, and we all should be rooting for the renegades to win.*****Our sponsors:CrowdHealth: Pay for healthcare with crowdfunding instead of insurance. Today we discuss MAHA, wearables, health, and Israel. RFK Jr. announced that he hopes that in four years, all Americans will be wearing health tracking devices. What are the implications for individual health? Is hypothesis-driven science being undermined? Will equity be used as a way to force this on people? What should we think of the fact that Casey Means, the nominee to Surgeon General, has a company that incorporates wearables? What does Yuval Noah Harari have to tell us? Does having your data uploaded to the cloud seem like a good idea? There seem to be two very different models of how to MAHA: 1) hone your intuition, trust your senses, and try to create an environment with as little exposure to hyper-novelty as possible; or 2) tech your way out of the problem, and trans-humanize your way to success. Also: Bret introduces Warner the wearables werewolf. Breaking news: Israel and the U.S. appear to have brokered a deal that includes several other countries in the Middle East, and leaves open the possibility of a two-state solution.*****Our sponsors:Brain.fm: intense music that boosts productivity. Today we discuss war, regime change, cyber-attacks, libertarianism, and driving. In what ways are Israel's attack on Iran reminiscent of events from the past? Are the neo-cons back, or did they never go away? It would seem that we are being frog-marched to war. Speaking of destabilization: North America's largest publicly traded wholesale distributor of natural foods (UNFI) was hacked, leaving market shelves empty at tens of thousands of stores. In better news: Bret returned from FreedomFest, and provides a report, and discusses his model for Libertarianism 2.0. And: Matthew Crawford on why we drive. Which is better: horses or cars? A new company is promising future parents that they will be able to create long-lived babies—what could go wrong? Also, how likely are they to be able to make good on their promises? Many topics today! First: FDA tentatively approves Moderna's new mRNA shot for Covid. What? And also why? Bret has six main points, which include discussion of mucosal immunity, IgG4, auto-immunity, long-term consequences, statistical tricks, and homeopathy. Then: how do we know what is true, and how can we avoid jumping to conclusions when triggered by language or circumstances that seem familiar and frustrating?...As explored through the story of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who has a Disorder of Sexual Development, won Olympic gold for beating women, but is definitely male. We begin with the HHS announcement that Covid shots will no longer be recommended to healthy children and pregnant women. What does healthy mean? And what are the conditions that provide release from liability for vaccine makers? Then, a discussion of kinds of immunity, and how vaccines are best delivered depending on how disease is transmitted. We compare what was claimed about the shots (they stop transmission!), and what Pfizer later admitted (that they did not know if the shots stopped transmission—but they had to move at the “speed of science”!). Also, a discussion of how to kill your pathogens by crossing ecological borders…and how to get rid of a botfly with a steak, or with ivermectin. Then: why are young male capuchin monkeys abducting baby howler monkeys on an island off the coast of Panama? Finally: a discussion of transhumanism, our future, our embodied selves, how we live on, what we owe our children, what our beloved dead would make of now, and how we, and the LLMs, could know.*****Our sponsors:Brain.fm: intense music that boosts productivity. Is MAHA under threat? If so, what is the nature of the threat? Following the nomination of Casey Means for Surgeon General, MAHA on-line has polarized: is she a Manchurian candidate, or is she what she appears? If she is what she appears, is her lack of focus on vaccine safety cause for concern? What is the value of experience, clinical and otherwise, in developing wisdom? What's in our medicines? There are active ingredients, and there are excipients, which is everything else. From colorants to emulsifiers to adjuvants, excipients hide many horrors, and it's not even possible to know which ones are in your meds (or foods). Dairy that has been fortified with vitamins A & D also has seed oils and emulsifiers, but those things aren't on the label. The government database that should have all the information is full of errors. Polysorbate 80, a common emulsifier in food and drugs, is so complex that it hasn't been fully characterized, and is known to be cytotoxic generally, including being hemolytic—it breaks apart red blood cells. Meanwhile, Moderna's Covid “vax” has even more contaminants than previously recognized.*****Our sponsors:Masa Chips: Delicious chips made with corn, salt, and beef tallow—nothing else—in loads of great flavors. The middle ground scramble continues. Elites redefine their positions as if they had it right all along, and explain why they definitely need to be in charge of more stuff. We have been waiting for the reckoning; instead we are getting the anti-reckoning. Herein: how science isn't done, why the scientific method is for everyone, and evidence that most who consider themselves elite don't understand science. Also: the UK is moving forward with plans to dim the sun, because apparently we learned nothing from Covid, and informed consent is optional.*****Our sponsors:VanMan: Tallow and honey balm, deodorant, and many other amazing animal based personal care products.Go to http://www.vanmanscompany.com/darkhorse and use code darkhorse10 for 10% off your first order.Pique's Nandaka: delicious mushroom, tea, and chocolate drink that provides all day energy. This week in women: the UK Supreme Court declares that transwomen are not women, and women are lauded for putting on matching jumpsuits and being launched into space for a minute. In Britain, rapists can no longer pretend to be women; in the United States, we are asked to celebrate one of the oldest plays in the book—attractive woman attaches herself to wealthy man and attains power—and pretend that it represents female empowerment, while conveniently forgetting actually skilled women who have come before. Also: a hostage situation in Podcastistan: in which we explore the strange about-face of some prominent free speech warriors. Finally: the amazing institution that is Ralston College, whose themes are truth, freedom of inquiry, beauty, and fellowship.*****Our sponsors:Timeline: Accelerate the clearing of damaged mitochondria to improve strength and endurance: Go to http://www.timeline.com/darkhorse and use code darkhorse for 10% off your first order.ARMRA Colostrum is an ancient bioactive whole food that can strengthen your immune system. Tariffs, Trump, AI, nature, and science. Are the tariffs insane, or brilliant? Will Trump actually bring manufacturing back to the U.S.? How are the “reciprocal tariffs” calculated, what game is everyone playing, and how long will it take to know who wins? Then: AI marches us further into the Cartesian Crisis; can we restore our humanity? Scientific American claims that too much nature is bad for you (it's not), and finally, some words from County Highway, and why we should consider being quiet and listening to Aslan.*****Our sponsors:CrowdHealth: Pay for healthcare with crowdfunding instead of insurance. In this week's episode, we discuss ridiculous op-eds and letters to the editor in Nature this week, and the concept of fairness. First: gender equity for female scientists in war zones, and for women in mining. Are these laudable goals? Also: is division of labor between the sexes inherently objectionable? How does the concept of homeostasis relate to a body being given pharmaceutical interventions, a society being given equity interventions, or a government being given bureaucratic interventions? Then: level playing fields are the sine qua non of the West – they work in science, markets, politics, everything. Internet algorithms in their current state are, in comparison, anti-Western. Using the analogy of a card game, we discuss luck.*****Our sponsors:ARMRA Colostrum is an ancient bioactive whole food that can strengthen your immune system. In this week's episode, we discuss 23andMe – what does its impending bankruptcy mean for data security, and why did people think their genetic data were secure before the company went into bankruptcy? As we protect existing rights laid out in the Constitution, we also need to innovate new protections in a world with new threats and possibilities. Going back to what was will not be sufficient. Then: Bobby Kennedy Jr. and anti-Semitism; and Columbia University's response to the Trump administration as it tries to hang on to $400 million dollars in annual federal funding. In this week's episode, we discuss the JFK assassination, deportations, DOGE, Tesla, anarchists, flu, measles, vaccines, and crunchy Moms. What do we make of the 80,000 pages of JFK files that were released yesterday? Are immigrants who are in the U.S. legally protected by the Constitution? What are they allowed to say, or think? Does anger at Elon Musk and DOGE explain the left going after Teslas? Or maybe it's not the left at all, but anarchists. What's up with flu this year, and should you get a flu shot? How about a measles vaccine? Did the measles vaccine contribute to the drop in measles deaths in the U.S.? And why are mothers who are concerned for the health and well-being of their children rejecting the advice of experts?*****Our sponsors:Timeline: Accelerate the clearing of damaged mitochondria to improve strength and endurance: Go to http://www.timeline.com/darkhorse and use code darkhorse for 10% off your first order.Helix: Excellent, sleep-enhancing, American-made mattresses.
