Dear Nordonia Parents, Students, and Community Members,Welcome to Nordonia Middle School! Our purpose is to bring in your student, from the Elementary level, and provide them with the academic and social tools to leave us prepared for High School success! Our fantastic Certified and Classified staff members are second to none, and welcome our approximately 600 students each day. Students receive instruction through their four Core Content areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies), and two Elective courses, as well as an Intervention and Enrichment period. In an effort to keep things running as smoothly as possible through the School Counseling Office over these next few weeks, we wanted to provide you with some helpful guidance and resources to access. First, what should you expect as far as accessing counselors and important tasks typically completed through our office? * Counselors will still be accessible via email during regular business hours each day to answer questions, adjust scheduling requests, provide referrals to mental health supports, answer questions about online DK classes and summer school, and troubleshoot issues as they arise. * The office will be open from 7:00 am-3:00 pm to field phone calls, process transcript requests, process work permits, collect online fees, and complete any other responsibilities.* We welcome patrons into the School Counseling Office, we do recommend calling ahead. When you arrive you will need to be buzzed into the building. * Email will be our main means for communication. Please be sure to check your school email every day for information and updates. * We will help to connect anyone in need of mental health support to community and/or crisis resources. Please do not hesitate to reach out as needed. Also take note of the resources listed at the bottom of our email signatures. Some topics you may have pressing questions about such as graduation, state testing, report cards/grades, senior internship, etc., we do not have answers to just yet. Our administration will be on top of communicating with you as soon as those decisions are made. We recognize that there are significant challenges academically that we will all have to work through together. Additionally, there may be challenges as everyone adjusts to a new concept of living with the Coronavirus. We are here to assist with those challenges as well and will be frequently communicating some resources to help with these new transitions.
Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we work through these unprecedented times. As you know, to help prevent the community spread of COVID-19, the Nordonia Schools will be closed to students now through Tuesday, April 14. Students will return on April 15.The Nordonia High School National Honor Society is compiling a list of available babysitters whose service, character, and leadership have already been assessed. If you have a need for a babysitter, please contact your building principal Monday for the list of available sitters. We can provide the list to families directly, but please do not post the list on any social media sites.Starting Tuesday, every Nordonia student will be eligible to have a lunch provided and home delivered by the schools. These lunches will be reimbursable to the schools through the national free and reduced lunch program, but a student does not need to be on free or reduced lunch to participate in the program during this school closure period. You can enroll your child in this program by clicking this link: https://tinyurl.com/NordoniaLunchOrders If your student or a Nordonia student you know does not have access to a computer or wifi at home, please contact Technology Director Mike Russ at 330-908-6229.According to the Ohio Department of Education, “Any concerns about the administration of state assessments can and will be addressed, if necessary, after student health and safety have been assured.” To me that means we have no information and will wait for guidance from ODE. Kindergarten tuition payments due April 3 may be deferred until school resumes.Pay to participate fees for spring sports will be deferred until school resumes and we learn whether the athletic seasons will be played.Because the school closure will cover such a long length of time between the 3rd and 4th grading period, for this year only we are transitioning to a semester grade. The work that students have completed to date in the third quarter will be carried over to the 4th quarter, and only a semester grade will be given. This will have no impact on GPAs or class rankings. We are still conducting kindergarten registrations. Call Maria at 330-467-0580 to schedule an appointment.A reminder, this closure will not impact seniors expecting to graduate, and there is no indication that the school year will be extended. If you have any questions about anything related to the school closure or coronavirus, you can submit them here: https://tinyurl.com/NordoniaClosureQuestionsThese are unprecedented times, and we will get through them together through flexibility and common sense. Please understand this closure is not only to keep students and staff safe, but also to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as seen in other countries around the world. As always, thanks for your continued support of the Nordonia Schools, and Go Knights!
