Find Your Dream Job: Insider Tips for Finding Work, Advancing your Career, and Loving Your Job
Check out the podcast on Macslist here: (https://www.macslist.org/?post_type=podcasts&p=16297&preview=true) Making the shift from military service to the civilian workforce isn't easy. According to Find Your Dream Job guest Angie Condon, one of the biggest challenges is letting go of rank structures and moving from a team-first mindset to advocating for your own career growth. Angie highlights common mistakes veterans make when entering the civilian job market, including not preparing early enough, relying on military hierarchy in corporate settings, and struggling to clearly communicate their value to employers. Her advice is to start your job search at least a year before leaving the military, take advantage of transition assistance programs, and connect with veteran-focused employee resource groups. Angie also stresses the importance of finding an employer whose values align with your own. Veterans may need to accept an initial step down in responsibility, but their strong leadership skills, reliability, and discipline often set them up for rapid advancement. With the right approach, Angie says, veterans can turn their military experience into a powerful advantage — and often rise more quickly than their civilian peers. Charlie Kirk is dead—taken out by an extremely skilled sniper in deep-red Utah. The MAGA Nazi built an empire scapegoating Black people, trans folks, and women, and cheered on Trump's authoritarian destruction. Get ready for the martyrdom of this incel king and the coming retribution against democracy defenders. Let's look at what really happened. Back in July, Kirk had demanded transparency from the Trump White House over Trump's longtime friend: the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein who ran the real life QAnon–we play Kirk's own words at the end of this episode. Instead, Trump turned the FBI and DOJ into personal security forces, relying on them and Mike Johnson in Congress to continue his Epstein cover-up. Now Kirk's dead. And the shooter? Nowhere to be found. The killer obviously blended in with the predominantly white and male crowd. Was he a professional sniper? Was this a Russian op, or another case of terrorism by an active duty soldier? Kirk's death looks less like a random act and more like a message: Shut up about Epstein. And it's working. Trump is already using Kirk's murder to stir up his base, threatening political opponents, and fueling his full-blown authoritarian crusade. But don't be fooled—this isn't about “leftist violence.” The data is clear: political violence in America overwhelmingly comes from the far right. Refuse to be silenced. Demand the full Epstein files. Demand justice for the victims. Because the real danger to MAGA isn't those who enjoy what's left of their Constitutionally protected rights—it's the MAGA base waking up to the truth: Trump is at the center of the Epstein cover-up, because he, like Epstein, is a pedophile. Release the Epstein files. Show Notes: First-of-its-kind Look at Left, Right, and Islamist Extremists Explores Similarities, Differences. According to the University of Maryland's Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice: Far-right extremist violence is significantly worse than far-left violence – there's no comparison. The data shows that American society should take right-wing violence far more seriously, like it takes Islamist extremism. Anyone both-sidesing political violence in America is gaslighting you. https://ccjs.umd.edu/feature/umd-led-study-shows-disparities-violence-among-extremist-groups Top Democrat Calls for Congressional Probe Into Ties Between Jeffrey Epstein and Peter Thiel: Thiel was one of many whose financial ties to the dead financier should be probed, a prominent senator believes. https://gizmodo.com/democrats-call-for-congressional-probe-into-ties-between-jeffrey-epstein-and-peter-thiel-2000657058 Charlie Kirk talks Epstein, urges Trump administration to act https://www.axios.com/2025/07/15/trump-epstein-maga-charlie-kirk Zero Fail: The Rise and Fall of the Secret Service by Carol Leonnig https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/543941/zero-fail-by-carol-leonnig/ See Epstein's full ‘birthday book,' with alleged personal messages from Trump, Clinton and others https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/see-epsteins-full-birthday-book-with-alleged-personal-messages-from-trump-clinton-and-others House Oversight receives Epstein estate files, including 'birthday book' : Democrats have posted a photo of the provocative message the president allegedly wrote. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/08/house-oversight-receives-epstein-estate-files-00550721 MSNBC: Witness Describes Charlie Kirk Shooting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGxsn3FNJsU Nazi Martyr Horst Wessel: Beware the mobilizing martyrdom by American fascists https://www.bettedangerous.com/p/nazi-martyr-horst-wessel?fbclid=IwY2xjawMvxm5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHjDVF7jdpNZA03IKR09k7rR2GPT50u9UjV2glvSRXDMzCsGlk1_7BXB7FH_C_aem_U-EXiDdVgWMAOfMMny3OYA U.S. Military Service is the Strongest Predictor of Carrying Out Extremist Violence https://theintercept.com/2025/01/02/military-veterans-extremism-attack-new-orleans-vegas/

Catholic Money Mastermind - Financial Planning conversations with Catholic CFP® Practitioners
Today, Ben welcomes Jessica Chominski—financial advisor, Army Reservist, and mother of six—for a conversation that explores the intersection of vocation, sacrifice, and financial stewardship through a deeply Catholic lens. Jessica shares her journey from aspiring social worker and crisis pregnancy center founder to military officer and faith-driven financial planner, reflecting on the quiet strength found in long-term obedience and trust in God's providence. The discussion unpacks how discipline, suffering, and perseverance—whether in spiritual life or personal finance—can be formative tools when offered in union with Christ. Drawing on her lived experience, Jessica emphasizes the importance of saying “yes” to God's invitations, even amid uncertainty or discomfort, and how that openness creates space for authentic growth and unexpected joy. Together, they explore how Catholic financial planning uniquely integrates virtue, mission, and peace of heart, ultimately encouraging listeners to see their money, time, and trials as opportunities to serve something far greater than themselves.Key Takeaways:• Saying “yes” to God, even without full clarity, opens the door to unexpected blessings.• Muscle building is a powerful metaphor for spiritual and financial growth—both need resistance.• Catholic advisors bring more than expertise—they offer values-based guidance.• A good plan, consistently followed, beats chasing quick wins.• Having a “why” behind your money decisions leads to freedom.• Small yeses can lead to major life shifts over time.Key Timestamps:(00:00) - Meet Jessica Chominski(02:07) - Lessons Learned from Military Service and Resilience(07:47) - Embracing Sacrifice and Endurance in Life and Finance(13:46) - “God Blesses Yeses” and the Wisdom of Casting a Wide Net(18:22) - The Crucial Role of a Financial Advisor Beyond Numbers(25:00) - Integrating Virtue and Faith into Financial Planning(40:18) - How to Connect with JessicaKey Topics Discussed:Catholic Money Mastermind, Catholic financial planning, Catholic financial planners, Catholic financial advisors, Ben Martinek, faith and financesMentions:Website: https://www.stonecropadvisors.com/ More of Catholic Money Mastermind:Catholic Money Mastermind Podcast is a personal podcast meant for educational and entertainment. Dan McConchie shattered expectations when he became the first paraplegic elected to the Illinois state legislature. His remarkable journey from military service to groundbreaking political advocacy unfolds in this raw, candid conversation recorded at the Abilities Expo in Chicago.McConchie's story begins with military service as Army infantry and military police from 1989 to 1998. Life changed dramatically when a hit-and-run motorcycle accident left him with a spinal cord injury in 2007. With extraordinary resilience, he rebuilt his life only to face another devastating setback—breaking his back a second time during adaptive skiing, which worsened his injury from T12 to T9. Rather than surrender to circumstance, McConchie channeled his experiences into public service.During eight and a half years in the Illinois Senate, McConchie transformed accessibility in government. Now leading a nonprofit focused on accessibility policy nationwide, McConchie continues fighting for practical solutions to everyday challenges faced by people with disabilities. The conversation delves into shared experiences of isolation and the profound importance of finding community among others who understand disability challenges. Through it all, McConchie's message resonates clearly: "How can I make the world a better place today with the powers that I've got?" His work proves that advocacy, education, and representation are powerful tools for creating a more accessible and inclusive society. Two-time Emmy and three-time NAACP Image Award-winning television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Ozell Graham. A successful barber and entrepreneur, founder of The Fade Shop and creator of At Ease hair and skincare products. Military service in the United States has long been associated with patriotism. But for Black veterans, this association with patriotism, love for country, is complicated by their experiences with racism and discrimination in the US and both civilians and as members of the military. In Black Veteranality: Military Service and the Illusion of Inclusive Patriotism(Routledge, 2025). Dr. Bryon Garner explores the intersections between race and American patriotism and veteran identity. Drawing from his own service in the US Navy and experiences as a veteran, historical examples, and interviews with other Black veterans, Dr. Garner shows how the Black veteran experience helps illuminate the often undiscussed tensions around race, identity, and inclusion in American patriotism. Black Veteranality is an important opening in conversations about race, military service, and patriotism in the United States. In this episode of Crossing Faiths, John Pinna speaks with Guy Elhanan, an Israeli actor and member of the Parents Circle–Families Forum, a joint Israeli-Palestinian organization of bereaved families. Elhanan shares his personal journey from a typical Israeli upbringing to a peace activist, detailing how his artistic awakening in an arts high school was abruptly curtailed by the dehumanizing experience of mandatory military service. He discusses how the military and societal narratives of conflict create a "numbness" and a narrow, aggressive definition of identity, which he later began to heal from through travel, art, and pantomime. The conversation explores the profound impact of his family's loss and his father's eventual embrace of the Parents Circle, centered on the realization that "the pain is one." Key themes include the destructive nature of militarized culture, the challenge of overcoming societal propaganda and racism, and the powerful, essential role of empathy and recognizing shared humanity as the only path toward reconciliation and a future beyond the conflict.

Should Christians serve in the military? In this sobering and nuanced episode, Dru Johnson sits down with retired Colonel Darren Duke—Marine Corps Special Operations commander and intelligence officer—to unpack this deeply personal and morally complex question. Drawing from over 30 years of military experience, Duke shares his evolving view of military service, from Cold War patriotism to the hard-earned disillusionment of post-9/11 combat. He offers insight into how symbols like the Punisher, Spartan helmets, and Valhalla became coping mechanisms for troops struggling with the trauma and moral ambiguity of prolonged warfare. Duke also warns young Christians to prepare not only for the battlefield but for the morally challenging culture within the military itself. This conversation does not prescribe easy answers but outlines how one might think Christianly about enlistment, national service, and the weight of violence in a fallen world. Listeners will walk away better equipped to consider military service with sober realism, moral clarity, and theological depth. We are listener supported.
