The ink on the Constitution was barely dry before others were trying to control us. Yet, we are still around. As life's pace begins accelerating, it's time for careful introspection. Our 250th anniversary has left others jealous. Chy-Nah and AI together leaves a lot of questions. Venezuela entered the picture in 2017. People herd you into groups where they think you belong. Hard choices get made under threats. The message seems disconnected by design. All the factions show who the real operators are. It's a swamp within a swamp. National leaders waste time on climate myths. AI complicates human nature. Many can't handle the truth. The Tina Peters case was done all wrong. We are going to lose the House. Saudi Arabia is out of oil. Israel should have played it down the middle. Bibi is a dumb warmonger. The President has taken so much grief for the people. England is the capital of bad teeth. Psyops change by the minute. Our media can be redone without sponsors. J6 was orchestrated by the right. Katrina Pearson saved the President. Choices offer fake everything. They attack us in every way possible. Cultivating discernment is key. Here's the secret to a long life. When you cease to learn, you cease to live.

Jon Herold and Burning Bright break down the freshly signed US and Iran memorandum of understanding line by line, covering the naval blockade removal, troop withdrawals, the Strait of Hormuz reopening, the $300 billion reconstruction investment that is not a loan from American taxpayers, full sanctions termination, and the nuclear enrichment compromise that allows Iran a civilian program. Burning Bright pulls up his own June 2025 prediction that Trump would eventually allow enrichment, vindicated almost word for word a year later, and the guys walk through what that means for anyone who took Trump's no enrichment rhetoric at face value. They apply their long running inverted premise framework, asking whether Trump has actually been waging war with Israel against Iran rather than the reverse, and how that flips the entire reading of who won this deal. The DNI chaos gets its own segment: Jay Clayton's nomination abruptly canceled, Bill Pulte staying on as acting director, and the argument that Trump deliberately attached unpopular riders to tank both FISA 702 and the Save America Act. New reporting suggests the Presidential Intelligence Advisory Board under Devin Nunez, not Tulsi Gabbard, may be the real source of the upcoming election declassification, possibly timed to Trump's June 24 DC rally.

Journal of Biophilic Design
Why we need nature inside our buildings - The Future of Healthy Buildings with Biophilic Design

Journal of Biophilic Design

Play Episode Listen Later May 18, 2026 42:24

In this episode of the Journal of Biophilic Design podcast, we speak with landscape specialist Tom Palfreyman, whose work across commercial, hospitality, retail and workplace environments has focused on the principle that plants fundamentally change how people experience space. With more than twenty years' involvement in interior and exterior landscaping, Tom has spent his career exploring how nature can improve the places where we work, rest and play, and why maintenance, care and long-term thinking are just as important as the initial design itself. As Tom reflects during the conversation, “Plants have transitioned from a nice-to-have decoration in the corner of the building to being an intrinsic essential part of any building.” It is a shift many designers are now recognising. The conversation around biophilic design has matured significantly over the past decade. What was once dismissed as aesthetic enhancement is increasingly understood as part of a much wider discussion around health, wellbeing, productivity, ecology and human resilience. The heart of biophilic design beats out that human beings are not separate from nature, we are an intrinsic part of it. “We evolved to live outside,” Tom says. “That connection with nature, sadly, I believe, has been lost.” Modern life has created increasingly artificial environments - sealed buildings, screen-based working, urban density and spaces designed more for efficiency than human experience. Yet our biology has not changed at the same pace as our architecture. Research across neuroscience, environmental psychology and workplace wellbeing continues to show that exposure to nature can reduce stress, restore attention, support cognitive performance and improve emotional wellbeing. What becomes clear in this discussion is that successful biophilic design is never simply about adding greenery into a room. It is about creating meaningful and lasting relationships between people and living systems. For Tom, this begins with understanding plants properly. “Putting the right plant in the right place so it's happy, healthy, survives,” he explains. There is something important in that statement. Too often, planting schemes are treated as visual afterthoughts rather than living ecosystems requiring expertise, maintenance and long-term stewardship. The strongest biophilic projects understand that planting design is not decoration. It is infrastructure for wellbeing. Tom highlights his collaboration with Dr. Craig Knight, emphasising the benefits of biophilic ‘enrichment', a word maybe more commonly associated with ecology or animal wellbeing than commercial interiors. “Enrichment is a very, very strong part of what we do, putting the right plants in the right place,” he says. “If we can have engaged enrichment, then that is far more powerful.” Tom shares an example of a project with a pharmaceutical company where biophilic enrichment was introduced, leading to significant improvements in the work environment and prompting the company to adopt a global biophilic strategy. This notion of engaged enrichment feels particularly relevant in workplaces today. Many office environments continue to struggle with issues of stress, disengagement and sensory fatigue. In contrast, spaces designed with visible natural systems, daylight, planting and moments of restoration often feel fundamentally different. They soften the intensity of modern working life and reintroduce cues of life, seasonality and care into daily experience. Even relatively small interventions can have measurable impact. “Just one plant per four square meters can make a difference,” Tom notes, pointing to research that demonstrates improvements in wellbeing and engagement through relatively modest levels of planting integration. Importantly, the placement of greenery matters as much as quantity. Tom speaks about focusing on “main areas of circulation, so entrance and exit points of the buildings, communal spaces, places where people are going to perhaps take a moment to recuperate.” These transitional spaces are psychologically significant. They shape first impressions, influence behaviour and provide opportunities for pause and recovery within otherwise fast-paced environments. Biophilic design, at its best, works subtly in the background. A staircase wrapped in planting encourages movement differently. A naturally lit communal area changes how people gather. A view towards greenery can lower stress responses almost instantaneously. These are not superficial gestures; they alter the emotional atmosphere of buildings. Tom shares the inspiring work that Square Mile Farms are doing, introducing edibles into the working environment, focusing on education, engagement, and community building. They create gardening clubs where people can harvest plants like basil, replant, and take home produce to make recipes like pesto. This initiative rekindles lost skills and encourages communication and interaction among people. The conversation also raises an important challenge for the industry itself. As demand for biophilic design increases, so too does the need for skilled horticultural knowledge and maintenance expertise. “We need more people to see this industry as a career,” Tom says — a point that often receives too little attention within design discussions. Living systems require ongoing care, and the future of biophilic cities will depend not only on visionary designers, but also on the people who understand how to sustain and nurture these environments over time. What Tom would like to see is a society where “plants in, on and around every building, in every location, all being looked after in the right way.” It is a vision that speaks not only to aesthetics, but to responsibility. As cities densify and climate pressures intensify, integrating nature into the built environment is a necessity. Healthy buildings and healthy ecosystems cannot be treated as separate conversations. Perhaps that is why the Biophilic Design movement resonates so deeply now. People are searching for spaces that feel alive. Spaces that restore rather than deplete. Spaces that acknowledge our innate need for connection with the natural world. As Tom puts it: “Plants are the secret weapon. We cannot forget how important they are in any environment.” https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-palfreyman-56b792b/https://www.squaremilefarms.com/https://www.tvequestrian.co.uk/https://plantsatwork.org.uk/https://www.linkedin.com/in/craigknightidr/ Have you got a copy of the Journal? Winding Roads ARE the path of Energy and Enrichment. When I am graced to give a intuitive reading or open a client's Akashic Records (Soul's Dynamic Point of View and Story), my clients expectation is typically a straight path that indicates a completed task or solution. In contrast, a winding road allows you to acquire energy and experience. Each "bend" provides a new opportunity for unfolding and discovery.Energy moves from potential to form in the infinite. Here's a critical question. There is a thing you've been calling ‘energy' your whole life — the thing you say you're low on, that thing certain people drain from you that if it isn't just energy? What if it's something far more powerful? After years of studying human power, here's what I've come to understand and want to share with you. That energy — the force behind every choice, every word, every creative act — that is your LIGHT. Not as a metaphor. Literally. Your Light is your life force. The animating power of your spirit.”Your Soul Didn't Come Here to Check Your Bank Balance, beloved. Right now — today, not someday, today — you are making choices.Dozens of them. What to say to someone you love.Whether to speak up or stay quiet.Whether to keep going or give up on something that matters to you.And every single one of those choices is costing you something. Not money. Not time.Something deeper.Something you can actually feel leaving your body when you make a decision that isn't aligned with who you really are.You feel it as exhaustion. As resentment. As that hollow sensation in your chest when you say yes but your whole being is screaming no.Now here's what most people do about that feeling. They assume they need more.More money, more security, more control, more status — more of whatever the world told them power looks like. And they spend years — sometimes decades — chasing that version of power.Which would be fine except for one problem. It doesn't work. Not really. Not in the places that actually matter — your health, your relationships, your ability to create something meaningful, your capacity to simply tell the truth in a conversation without your stomach tightening into a knot.So here's the question I want to sit with you for a moment. What if the thing you've been calling “energy” your whole life — that thing you say you're low on, that thing you say certain people drain from you, that thing you try to protect — what if it isn't just energy? What if it's something far more powerful than that word has ever allowed you to imagine? Most people hear the word “energy” and they think biology.Calories.Sleep.Maybe if they're a little more open, they think vibration, frequency, something vaguely spiritual. But here's what I've come to understand after years of teaching and studying the nature of human power. That “energy” — the force you direct into every choice you make, the fuel behind every word you speak, every creative act, every moment of healing or destruction — that is your Light. And I don't mean that as a metaphor.I mean that as literally as I can say it.Your Light is your life force. It is the animating power of your spirit. And at its most evolved state, it is the essence of the Divine itself moving through you.Now — I know what just happened in some of your minds. The word “Divine” landed and half of you either leaned in or pulled back, because that word carries baggage. It carries the image of some off-planet being that looks like a human sitting on a throne somewhere deciding who gets blessed and who gets punished. And I want to tell you something clearly. Those days are ending. That myth is dissolving. We are not living in the age of that story anymore. We are living in the era of co-creation.The age of energy consciousness. The age of emerging mystical intelligence. And the fact that you are even here, listening to this, feeling that pull toward understanding your own power — that is not a coincidence. That pull you feel? That need to become empowered? That is your spirit recognizing — consciously or unconsciously — that power is not something you get from the world.Power is a function of what you are.It is all the Light you cannot see.Which brings me to something I am now fully devoted to teaching, because I believe it is the closest language we have to describing the true nature of creation.Three elements. Not faith, hope, and charity. Not mind, body, and spirit.Light.Law.And Love. These three are the architecture of everything.Your Light is the raw power — the life force you pour into every single choice. The Law is how that Light operates — because it doesn't move randomly, it moves according to mystical principles of co-creation that are as real and as consistent as gravity. And Love — Love is the destination.Love is what your Light is trying to become when it's no longer being hijacked by fear. But here's the problem with that. And this is where it gets honest.Every single human being alive is on the same journey.Every one of us.And that journey is not what you think it is.It's not from sickness to health. It's not from poverty to wealth. It's not from loneliness to connection. Those are symptoms. The real journey — the one hiding inside every obstacle you face, every relationship that confuses you, every dream that terrifies you — is the journey from the love of power to the power of love. And most people are walking it backwards. They're trying to accumulate enough external power to finally feel safe enough to love. But it doesn't work that way.It has never worked that way.Because the love of power and the power of love are not just phrases — they are two completely different operating systems. And right now, in this moment, you are running one of them. One of them fuels every choice with fear — with the need to control, to protect, to hoard your Light because you're terrified there isn't enough. The other fuels every choice with something the mind cannot manufacture — a trust so deep it doesn't need to control the outcome. And I know — I know — it is easy right now to feel overwhelmed. To feel powerless. To look at the state of things and think, “What can I possibly do?”But powerless is the last thing you are.The very last thing. Here's the trap, though. If you measure your power by what you have — by your bank account, your title, your followers, your possessions — then yes, you will always find evidence that you are powerless. There will always be someone with more. There will always be a moment when it's taken from you. That metric will betray you every single time. But — and this is what I want to leave burning in your mind — if you explore power not by what you have, but by what you are…If you turn your attention to the nature of your own Light…If you begin to understand that this Light follows laws, that it responds to your choices, that it is woven into the fabric of every relationship and every creative act and every moment of healing you will ever experience…Then you step into a kind of empowerment that nothing and no one can take from you.Not circumstances. Not economies. Not other people's opinions.Nothing.Because it was never outside you to begin with.It was always — always — what you are.And learning to live from that truth? That is the work. That is the journey. And it starts the moment you stop measuring your Light by the shadows around you and start recognizing it for what it actually is.The most powerful force you will ever carry.PS: If you're ready to stop bypassing the parts of you that feel too heavy to hold alone, and you want a space to work through what's real… the grief, the fear, the change, the deeper truths… I invite you to ......✨ The Light Between Oracle Experience is here. It's not just a tool — it's a return. To your inner compass. To your power. To the light between. Here's how to collapse time?Daily Recorded live at Shoptalk Spring 2026 by host Isaac Morey, the conversation features Amera Khalil, Director of Strategic Account Management at Commerce — the parent brand behind Feedonomics, BigCommerce, and MakeSwift. Together, they cover what brands actually need to do to stay visible as AI-powered discovery takes over consumer behavior. It's a practical, no-fluff conversation that's worth your time whether you're running a lean SMB operation or managing enterprise-level feeds.Key TakeawaysData quality is the foundation. Before any AI strategy works, your product feeds need accurate titles, descriptions, sizes, and attributes.Enriched data isn't one-size-fits-all. Enrichment requirements vary by brand, category, and channel — and they need to match today's conversational search queries.Agentic commerce is already operational. Commerce built a fully functional agentic checkout experience for PacSun on Perplexity in under 30 days.Don't deploy AI for AI's sake. Without a clear business objective, AI implementation creates confusion rather than results.SMBs need to act now. LLM visibility isn't exclusive to enterprise brands — smaller businesses can start preparing today.Human oversight isn't optional. Quality assurance guardrails protect brand integrity and keep AI-generated content on point.Have AI conversations out loud. Brands strategizing behind closed doors miss partners who may already have the solutions they need.Episode SummaryAmera opened by describing Commerce's three-brand structure. Feedonomics handles intelligent product feed management, BigCommerce powers flexible e-commerce experiences, and MakeSwift enables agile front-end design. She described Feedonomics' core value simply: taking complex data, making it clean and structured, and distributing it intelligently across every relevant channel. From there, Isaac asked the big question: how is AI changing e-commerce? Amera's answer was direct. The traditional marketing funnel — performance ads, tracking, attribution models — is collapsing. Consumers are now using Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Claude not just for research but for actual purchase decisions. "The biggest change in e-commerce," she noted, "is the preparation to be visible on these LLMs while maintaining the quality of your data."She broke agentic commerce readiness into clear layers. First, brands need solid foundational data — accurate product titles, descriptions, brand names, sizing. Without that, nothing else works. On top of that, brands need enriched data that responds to how people actually search today. Nobody's typing "suitcase" anymore. They're saying something like, "I'm going on a trip, I want something light, and I tend to overpack." Product data has to meet that kind of specificity.Interestingly, she was candid about the complexity of getting onto LLM channels: "Just because you're a brand doesn't mean that your feed is going to be accepted." Approval processes are real hurdles, and the backend requirements — syncing inventory, enabling checkout, integrating payments — go well beyond what most marketing teams expect. The PacSun case study was the episode's standout moment. Commerce built a complete agentic checkout experience for PacSun on Perplexity in under 30 days, during the holiday season. Shoppers could find PacSun jeans, select their size, and check out via PayPal — receiving a confirmation email from PacSun directly. "This is thrilling," Amera said, "because it's changed the way that we are looking at our expectations as consumers."On AI risks, she stressed quality assurance. Feedonomics uses internal benchmarking systems that flag AI-generated content not meeting brand standards before it goes live. She also flagged a generational nuance: Gen Z consumers can detect cold, scripted AI content, and they don't respond well to it. Adjusting content based on audience expectations isn't a nice-to-have — it's essential. For SMBs, her advice was to start with a data audit. Centralize your assets, identify missing fields, and find a feed partner who can submit requests to LLMs on your behalf. As she put it, "even if you're small, medium, or you're the big kahunas in the industry, you have to be present and you certainly have to be visible."Final ThoughtsIn this new era, AI agents act on behalf of shoppers — searching, comparing, and even checking out across multiple channels, often without ever visiting a merchant's website. These AI-driven experiences are seamless, contextual, and increasingly the default for how consumers interact with commerce online.  Amera's message throughout this episode is clear: preparation beats hesitation every time.So here's the question worth sitting with — if your brand's data isn't ready for an agent to read it, how feed-y is your commerce strategy for what's already here? This has been produced in cooperation with Content Cucumberhttps://www.contentcucumber.com/Chapters00:00:00 — Introducing Amera Khalil and Commerce00:00:22 — What Feedonomics Actually Does00:00:46 — BigCommerce and MakeSwift Explained00:01:09 — How AI Is Changing E-Commerce00:01:59 — How Consumers Are Using LLMs to Shop00:02:38 — The Rise of the Brand Agent as Consumer00:03:13 — How Brands Can Prepare for Agentic Commerce00:03:50 — Why Data Quality Is the Foundation00:04:28 — What Data Enrichment Actually Means00:05:15 — Matching Long-Tail Search Queries with Enriched Feeds00:05:52 — AI Risks and the Humans-in-the-Loop Element00:06:25 — Quality Assurance and Guardrails for AI Content00:07:15 — How Brands Are Adapting — Real Customer Journeys00:08:05 — Enterprise Brands Going Live on LLMs00:09:33 — The PacSun Agentic Checkout Story00:12:58 — Advice for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses00:14:54 — Why Every Brand Needs to Be Visible on LLMs by 202800:15:45 — The Feedonomics Framework for Readiness00:16:02 — Amera's Hot Take from Shoptalk00:16:56 — Final Thoughts and What's Getting Exciting Again

Scott Nolan spent 12 years at Founders Fund looking for the most important problems that no one else was funding. Then he found a problem so critical, and so ignored, that he couldn't find a company to back. So he started one. General Matter is rebuilding US uranium enrichment. The United States was the world leader in enrichment through the 1980s and then stopped entirely. Today roughly a quarter of US enriched uranium comes from Russia, a ban on those imports takes full effect in 2028, and the advanced reactors everyone is counting on to power the next wave of data centers have no reliable domestic fuel source. Scott believes enrichment is the single bottleneck to a nuclear future, and that the window to solve it is narrow. The conversation covers how Peter Thiel influenced him, why being in love with an idea is dangerous for investors but required for founders, and what it actually takes to rebuild an industrial capability the country let atrophy for 40 years. Please enjoy my conversation with Scott Nolan. One of the most common homeschool fears is the moment your child starts learning something you do not fully understand. What happens when math gets advanced, science becomes technical, or essays require deeper analysis than you feel prepared to evaluate? In this episode, we talk about how homeschooling shifts as subjects get harder and how parents can teach and assess confidently even when they are no longer the expert in the room. Even as momentum grows for U.S. nuclear, the fuel supply chain is often overlooked. This dynamic is shifting as the industry wakes up to critical choke points and a heavy reliance on countries like Russia for enrichment. As America aims to reduce geopolitical dependency in energy, fixing these domestic gaps has become a strategic priority. In this episode — a companion to a separate episode of Catalyst focused on nuclear waste — Shayle Kann speaks with Scott Nolan, the CEO of General Matter. The company is focused on enrichment, one of the most acute risk areas in the supply chain. Shayle and Scott also discuss the big-picture state of nuclear fuel, from mining to advanced reactor requirements.
