Cole Hammer joined the program this morning for his second visit to continue discussing his professional journey. Since he was last on the program he had a 54-hole lead on the Korn Ferry Tour and he dove into how that experience was in retrospect and how he was and wasn't prepared for the moment. Hammer also touched on his coach Bruce Davidson, the use of range finders, and talked about the journey of Rory McIlroy as was on the range with him as a 15-year old at Chambers Bay for the U.S. Open. We were also joined in studio by Preston Cole, Quail Hollow Club Pro, as he embarks to qualify for the 2025 PGA Championship that will be hosted by his home club in Charlotte. He talked about the experience qualifying at Valhalla last year and the support he has from everyone at the club to try to do it again this year.
We were joined today by designer Rob Collins of King Collins Dormer Golf and Tom Pashley, President of Pinehurst Resort. Collins and his team are behind the design and Landman, a course in Homer, NE that has quickly become a go-to destination for the traveling golf afficiando. He talked about how it came about, its uniqueness and the surrounding area. Pashley announced that Pinehurst No. 11, to be designed by Coore Crenshaw, will be completed by Fall of 2027 and talked about how different it will be from its newly-opened and highly-acclaimed neighbor, Pinehurst No . 10.Gary Williams opened the show with Justin Thomas' win at the RBC Heritage and closed with the heartbreak for Joel Dahmen in Punta Cana and the very sad news on the passing of Jay Sigel.

Don't sleep on this!

On this week's Bundesliga preview show, Manu and Stefan spend much of the show discussing Eintracht Frankfurt's defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League and their quest to finish in the top four in the league to qualify for the Champions League. This then leads to a general discussion about the poor performances of all German clubs in Europe this season and the reasons behind that. They then spend the second half of the show discussing Wolfsburg's recent woes in the league and why Ralph Hasenhüttl may be in serious trouble if his team can't make the most of their last five games of the season. Enjoy!

The recent laws banning Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on Utah's college campuses have led to the dismantling of women's clubs. Women, especially in vulnerable groups, don't have the safe spaces they used to have. That plus all of the funding cuts and grant cuts are producing uncertainty in higher education. KSL Newsradio's Amanda Dickson asked her guests about this on A Woman's View. Her guests this week are Dr. Susan Madsen, founder/director of the Utah Women and Leadership Project and the Karen Haight Huntsman endowed professor of leadership in the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University and Sally Dietlein, Executive Producer at Hale Center Theater.
First up, Senate Bill 1249 in Congress proposes to change how navigable airspace is defined, and would give the first 200 feet above the ground to states and private property owners. This bill also gives mandatory standoff distances from structures, including 200' laterally and 50 feet over the top of structures. Sadly, this is not a new idea. 5 years, we spent a significant amount of time fighting something similar proposed by the Uniform Law Commission (or ULC) proposed the same before being shut down. This is obviously a terrible idea and is proposed by a US Senator Mike Lee from Utah, who has a history of proposing bills that would severely limit UAS operations. Please reach out to your senators and representatives, as this affects ALL UAS operators, including drones, model airplanes, FPV, and helicopters.Next up this week, some news for recreational flyers who fly at the Academy of Model Aeronautics, or AMA, club sites. The AMA announced they've secured a National Authorization that allows members flying at designated club sites within Class G airspace to operate above the standard 400-foot Above Ground Level, or AGL, limit for routine flying. Depending on the specific site's location and assessment within Class G, the new authorized altitude limit could be up to 700 feet AGL, or even 1,200 feet AGL. Third up, DJI has expanded its enterprise payload lineup with two new accessories aimed at public safety and inspection users. They've launched the Zenmuse S1 Spotlight and the Zenmuse V1 Speaker. The S1 Spotlight is designed for the Matrice 300 RTK and Matrice 350 RTK platforms. It's a high-intensity light source with an effective illumination range of up to 150 meters, or about 492 feet. It features adjustable brightness levels and can synchronize its angle with the gimbal's pitch movements, keeping the light focused where the camera is looking, which is pretty neat. Then there's the Zenmuse V1 Speaker, which is compatible with the Matrice 300 and 350 series drones. This isn't your average Bluetooth speaker; it boasts a maximum volume of 120 decibels and an effective range of about 100 meters, or 328 feet, at a more typical 75 decibels. It supports text-to-speech conversion, audio storage, and real-time playback, making it useful for broadcasting instructions or warnings during emergencies. These kinds of accessories really enhance the utility of these enterprise platforms for first responders and inspection teams. And finally this week, ParaZero, known for their drone safety systems, has launched the SafeAir M4 parachute recovery system, specifically designed for the DJI Matrice 4 series drones. ParaZero's Press release says the SafeAir M4 meets the requirements of the ASTM F3322-22 standard for parachutes used in Operations Over People, or OOP. https://dronexl.co/2025/04/16/dji-launches-zenmuse-s1-spotlight-and-zenmuse-v1-speaker-for-enterprise-drones/https://dronexl.co/2025/04/15/parazero-launches-safeair-m4-drone-parachute-system/https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1249/text/is?format=txt&overview=closedhttps://amablog.modelaircraft.org/amagov/2025/04/15/flying-sites-in-class-g-airspace-granted-higher-altitudes/?_gl=1*1uaan0o*_gcl_au*NzU5NzI5MTc0LjE3NDQ5MDM2MzA.&_ga=2.207238160.221137029.1744903630-1851979334.1744903630

The Wagyu Filet Show duo of Johnson Wagner and Brendon de Jonge joined the program this morning for the entire show and alongside host Gary Williams, they did a deep dive of the 89th Masters and all that unfolded at Augusta National. In this episode, Leighton & Eddie are joined by Phil Grice – industry veteran and founder of Custodian Golf and GC Media. With deep roots in golf club ownership, management (including the transformation of Royal Norwich), and leadership as former Chairman of the GCMA, Phil brings a data-driven lens to the future of club sustainability. Phil shares insights into why data must lead decision-making and unpacks years of research identifying common traits of struggling clubs — insights that are helping others avoid the same pitfalls. He also introduces his compelling analogy of “Lions, Meerkats & Ostriches” to describe leadership styles and behaviours within clubs — a must-hear framework for any club manager or board. The conversation wraps with a look into technology in golf, and why clubs must embrace innovation to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry.

This is the second part of a two-part episode - the first part is here, episode 54, from March 31.We will start at FC St. Pauli, now in the German Bundesliga, at the club's museum which has very active researchers, and we'll end at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and the bigger question of what right remembering looks like in professional soccer - and what it can look like. We will take that journey with no less than 3 guests: Celina Albertz, a researcher and also in the curating team of the FC St. Pauli Museum; Sönke Goldbeck, Board chair and director of the museum, and Felipe Tobar, Assistant Professor in the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management Department at Clemson Universit in South Carolina and founder of the Football Studies youtube channel. He is also the mastermind of a new documentary on public memory and football, which we will also talk about.Part 1 is mostly concernedwith the research on the famous St. Pauli matchday song "Das Herz von St. Pauli" ("The Heart of St. Pauli"), and the discussion started by Celina's research into the composer, lyricist and performer of that song.

Raymond Verheijen (@raymondverheije) is a world renowned fitness coach and has been involved as an assistant in 4 World Cups and 4 EURO's working under Legendary Dutch coach Gus Hiddink, as well as working with several European top clubs like FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City. As a youth player Verheijen was part of the famous Dutch Youth Academy structure. Unfortunately, his dream of a professional career ended as a chronic injury forced him to retire at the young age of 18. This disadvantage became an advantage as Verheijen started his coaching career at the age of 19. He studied Exercise Physiology and Sport Psychology at the Free University Amsterdam and completed his Masters Degrees in 1995. In 1995, Verheijen developed his Masters thesis into the book ‘Conditioning for Soccer' which became the coach education book of the Dutch FA (KNVB) in 1997. Verheijen became a pro-license instructor at the Dutch FA in 1998. In 2014, Verheijen published the best-selling book ‘Football Periodisation'. More than 30,000 copies have been sold worldwide. His latest books are ‘Football Coaching Theory' (2020) and ‘Tactical Principles' (2022). In our discussion today, we talk about the importance of understanding fitness as the number of game actions a player can complete in a minute, not mindless running. Fitness must be focused on the ability to repeat game actions, not simply run without the ball. We also discuss injuries, how the US develops slow players because of our tournament model, how playing up must be managed better, and so much more. The three stages of masters rowing and a checklist of the skills learned in each stage - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. Timestamps 01:00 What will happen next for me? When learning to row you move up through experience and grades. Beginners - learning to row and getting familiarity with the boathouse, equipment and people. Be open to different frequencies showing up and learning styles. Progress is varied based on how much practice they do. 02:40 Clubs miss opportunities with intermediate rowers. Intermediate - often very keen to assist and engage with running the learner group. Include them in the learner program so they're included as tutors / helpers. Challenge them to try something new like being in stroke seat, small boats, toe steering or doing the calls for the crew. New horizons make rowing more fun and challenging. 04:00 Advanced The number of athletes is quite low - but does your coaching accommodate their needs? These people need specific training if they are racing - a program which builds up to a peak performance at key regattas. A coach needs to understand racing skills, periodisation for the program, how to read a race and respond. Long distance racing needs include steering, overtaking tactics, varied race rate and pace. 06:00 Rowing Skills Checklist The major stages of learning to row. This is a summary checklist - you can get a more detailed one if you join the Coach Mastermind Group - customise this to suit your waterway. https://fastermastersrowing.com/member-register/coach-mastermind/ Beginner skills - follow traffic navigation, emergency stop, turning on the spot and backing down. Intermediate skills - bladework skills, stroking and following in a crew, consistent rate / pressure. De rigging a boat, loading a trailer and do oar gearing adjustment. Diagnose faults and suggest drills to improve. Advanced skills - Add to the above lists - safety in weather/wind; launch in rough water, row square blades at firm pressure, catch start pick drill, using a pitch gauge to rig, measure span/spread and do a trailer loading diagram, confident coaching inside the boat - peer-to-peer coaching. Know where your skills are now and where you want to go next. Bing Chen is the Executive Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder of Gold House, a leading cultural ecosystem dedicated to empowering Asian Pacific creators and entrepreneurs to drive societal change. A visionary leader in media and diversity, Bing was formerly YouTube's Global Head of Creator Development and Management, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the global creator economy. He has been recognized on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list and honored as a Hollywood Reporter Next Gen Leader and ABC News History Maker. Bing also serves on numerous boards, including the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers. He is a Harvard-educated strategist known for building community-driven initiatives that amplify underrepresented voices. Through Gold House and beyond, Bing continues to push boundaries in media, venture capital, and cross-cultural innovation. In this episode, Bing brings wit, vulnerability, and visionary insight to the conversation. He discusses his upbringing as a Taiwanese-American in the South, his early confidence, and how experiences in Shanghai helped shape his understanding of racism and privilege. He gives a masterclass in the creator economy, offering tips for monetization, longevity, and community building. He also dives into Gold House's mission to make Asian-led creativity mainstream, explaining its work in film, venture, music, and health. Throughout, Bing emphasizes the importance of shared humanity over divisions and champions a collaborative, abundance-minded future. Parents, Prom, and the Cabbage Patch: Childhood and Family Stories: Bing shares hilarious and heartfelt stories about his parents' immigration, cultural quirks, and growing up in Knoxville, Tennessee. This includes some very memorable (and very real) parental sex talk. (2:25) Magic Bikes and Southern Roots: Growing Up Asian in the South: Bing reflects on his unique childhood experience in a mostly white Southern town, noting how he didn't face racism until moving to California. He discusses confidence, energy, and how being different can actually attract others. (5:45)Band Geeks and Prom Regrets: High School and Identity Formation: In this personal segment, Bing opens up about high school, popularity, belonging to many social circles, and his bittersweet prom story. He touches on early lessons in connection and rejection. (8:00)Buffets, Boys' Clubs, and Chubby Cattle: Food as a Love Language: Ami and Bing bond over their love of buffets, with Bing recounting how he formed a boys' club just to avoid eating alone at Hometown Buffet. He drops a hidden gem recommendation in NYC and name-drops Chubby Cattle Group. (12:45)Building YouTube and the Creator Economy From Scratch: Bing gets into the serious stuff: his pivotal role at YouTube, how he helped coin “creator,” and what current creators need to know about sustaining success. This is a goldmine for anyone working in media or content creation. (14:00)Gold House = The Asian Disney?: Changing Culture at Scale: Bing breaks down what Gold House actually does—from investing in ventures to pushing Asian narratives in film, music, and business. He compares it to the rise of hip-hop and explains the long-term cultural strategy. (20:30)We're More Similar Than We Think”: Stereotypes and Species-Level Thinking: In a profound and slightly controversial segment, Bing argues that the most damaging stereotype isn't about race—but about our belief that we're all so different. He emphasizes unity over hyper-specificity. (30:00)Candy, Concerts, and Cracking From Burnout: Rapid Fire and Vulnerability: In a fun, fast-paced wrap-up, Bing talks about burnout, sour candy as therapy, why he doesn't complain, and his love for Tupac and Hans Zimmer. He ends on a strong note about ethics, ambition, and resilience. (37:30) Connect with Bing Chen:WebsiteInstagramLinkedInX Let's Connect:Instagram This podcast is produced by Ginni Media.
There's a lot of news for the first week of the season! Joe Maddon and Tom Verducci compare the use of 'torpedo' bats in baseball to a golfer trying different clubs. Joe explains how a batter finds a bat that works for him and how analytics are once again changing the game. Tom notes the rough start for Rafael Devers while Joe offers up some drastic changes to turn things around. Atlanta has also struggled out of the gate and the PED news with Jurickson Profar is an early dagger.
