In this healthy episode of According to the Cassels we have guest Dr. Chase Banks. A board-certified chiropractic sports practitioner who discusses the importance of taking a proactive approach to healthcare for both yourself and your family. He emphasizes the reactive nature of the current healthcare system and the importance of partnering with practitioners and physicians for better outcomes. Dr Banks discusses the importance of nutrition and strength building, especially for women as muscle mass decreases with age. We learn there is no one-size-fits-all approach to eating and that only about 30% of people will see positive results from a specific eating paradigm. Don't miss these valuable insights into taking control of your family's health in today's post-pandemic healthcare system. KEY POINTS: Dr. Chase Banks is a board certified chiropractic sports practitioner through the American College of Sports Physicians. He has clinical experience in the physical medicine and rehab department of the central Texas VA system and is often requested as a lead speaker on sports injuries, sports physiology, endocrinology, leadership, goal setting, nutrition, and overall health and wellness.Being an advocate for your family's health and your own health in today's post-pandemic healthcare system, which looks different due to various reasons. The healthcare system is reactive rather than proactive, and the information provided is based on old research. It is important for people to take a health stance for their families and partner with practitioners and physicians for a better outcome.Time constraints and lack of education make it hard to partner with physicians in the traditional sense of the healthcare system.People need to be advocates for themselves and their families by asking about the treatment plan and researching additional resources, like nutritionists and health coaches.Insurance can be challenging, and people need to do their research to empower themselves.Dr. Banks' office caters to a variety of people, including sports injuries and nutrition, and it has evolved over the years.Chase is mentioned as someone who is always working on nutrition plansAmy has had metabolic testing done and has printouts of her body measurementsShe points out that it's important to understand how muscle mass decreases with age, especially for women, and to work on building more strength to prevent further loss.Take proper tests and create personalized meal plans that take into account individual nutritional needs. An example of a vegan who had blood work done before being put on a meal plan and was found to be severely anemic. Many specific styles of eating have holes in their plansOnly about 30% of people will see positive results from a specific eating paradigm, and the 70% who don't may not speak up about it. They discuss how he was influenced by Professor Tim Noakes to do something about his own health when we realised he was no longer the fit, metabolically healthy man he was, and was challenged to do something about it. This has lead to him authoring a book (Fat Lot of Good) and setting up a not for profit organisation (Sugar by Half) and a new diabetes reversal programme, Defeat Diabetes. Peter Brukner is a specialist sports and exercise physician whose most recent position has been Australian cricket team doctor for the past five years.Peter is the founding partner of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and Professor of Sports Medicine at Latrobe University. But now they are using Covid to justify an evil agenda Hitler would be proud to sponsor.  Are you OK with throwing people into Covid concentration camps? Are you OK with chipping people or putting nano-robots in their bodies so they can be tracked and controlled? Are you OK with letting people die in the parking lot of the hospital or on the table waiting for a transplant? Are you OK with starving people to death? Do you think your neighbor should lose everything just because he won't take a job that doesn't even work? No matter how we feel about masks, shutdowns, and supposed vaccines, we should all be able to agree that these are things that Jesus would never do. But they are exactly what Hitler and Stalin did. He is the co-founder of the public health campaign SugarByHalf and is committed to the challenge of improving the nation's health with improved diet and increased physical activity. His most recent book A Fat Lot of Good was published in May 2018.Living and working in Liverpool, UK in 2012, Dr Peter says that he has a strong family history of Type 2 diabetes. Despite being borderline obese with a BMI of 30, blood tests showing he had a fatty liver, he still considered himself to be in good health, doing the right thing with eating low fat foods and exercising. It was through his long standing academic friendship with Prof Tim Noakes, that he read Gary Taube's ‘Good Calories Bad Calories' that challenged the idea of the low fat diet. Embarking on his own journey, reading and self experimentation, Dr Brukner was able to see first hand the impact of eating real food. He lost weight, more energy, mentally sharper as went from eating three meals and three snacks to two meals and a small snack of a handful of nuts. Blood tests showed that his fatty liver had resolved and was completely normal. Frustrated by the mixed messages in the public space, he wanted a platform to campaign for dietary change. He founded the not-for-profit organisation ‘Sugar By Half' as a public health campaign to promote and advocate for healthier eating by reducing sugar consumption. He authored ‘A Fat Lot of Good', a best seller book which provides an engaging and easily accessible approach to eating real food. A fascinating episode on the books today with Dr. Roy Page, a protege of Kabuki Board Member Dr. Craig Liebenson and head associate at world-renowned clinic LA Sport & Spine. Our hosts sit down with Dr. Roy to discuss his education and experience as a practitioner in both western and eastern schools when it comes to rehabilitation modalities. All of our hosts had a chance to experience some unique and novel techniques that Dr. Roy specializes in and utilizes with his patients, particularly electroacupuncture.  Dr. Roy received the a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan College along with a Master of Science Degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation. He has also achieved a Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine from Emperor’s College and is a California licensed acupuncturist. The American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians recognizes him as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has awarded him the status Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.  He began fine-tuning his clinical work in functional rehabilitation under the direct supervision of Dr. Craig Liebenson in 2012, and he regularly assists Dr. Liebenson at various teaching events across the country. Dr. Page has been a past secretary for the International Society of Clinical Rehabilitation Specialists and continues to represent the emerging interdisciplinary rehab community within the private sector. Roy’s detective-like interest in human movement stems from his avid long time study of various martial arts. In particular, he began studying Yang style Taijiquan (T’ai Chi Ch’uan) in 1997 after having spent a year wheelchair bound due to a severe football injury. Tajiquan was a major component of his rehabilitation that taught him how to walk again, empowering him to return to sport. He has studied Taijiquan with many notable teachers across the United States, including his teacher’s Sifu Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming as well as Dr. Yang’s original Taiji teacher, Grandmaster Kao, Tao. Dr. Page began co-teaching Tajiquan, along with Muay Thai, Wing Chun, and Kali at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN from 2001 – 2006 and has taught privately thereafter. He considers himself a movement specialist due to his colorful history with various martial arts, manual medicine, and rehabilitation based performance care.  He also aims to uniquely interweave Eastern medicine with the functional rehabilitation paradigm by recognizing common themes within traditional diagnosis and meridian therapy with modern understandings of anatomy and the body’s adaptive potential to influences from the environment. In this way, Dr. Page is capable of managing the entire spectrum of a patient’s needs from top personal performance to deep recovery. Through Acupuncture, herbal, and nutraceutical therapies, he has additional expertise in the management of post-stroke rehabilitation and stroke prevention, autoimmune disorders, and the management of side-effects from cancer related medical interventions.  Sports Physicians recognizes him as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has awarded him the status Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.
