The podcast of Chris, musician from Hamilton, Ontario. Each week we break down a great musicians life and career, to understand their process. Art is about development, and commitment to a process, and often these stories do not get talked about. For my music and others, I will uncover the stories,…
This week I share a recording of various musical ideas that came into existence in the moment. Inspired by Taylor Swifts most recent albums. I hope you enjoy!
This week I talk about the process required to build an album, and all the things I do to make it work, despite career challenges, personal relationships, and the current pandemic. It goes to show you how hard one has to work to make something for entertainment these days.
This week I am back, and once again building this podcast. This really is a quick introduction into the podcast and what it is all about.
I may not be here for a while, probably until the new year. I have some work to do :)
This week I share my first takes at a new project. Some of my favorite musicians cover and re imagine great music forgotten in the musical landscape. John Mayer did Tom Petty and Eric Clapton, The Beatles did Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, Elvis basically reimagined the American Songbook with Ben Wiesman. My intentions are to cover some of the most important songs to me from the past. I am a 60's, 70's and 80's fan like no other I know, and currently Fleetwood Mac's (Stevie Nicks), Landslide, The Band and Neil Youngs Helpless, and John Mayer's Gravity is having a huge impact on my playing style and I hope to record 2 of the 3 of these onto my 3rd album in the Spring. I want to help correct a bit of the amnesia young music fans seem to have these days :) I also talk about some guitar work I am working on, and play some original made up tunes. Welcome back to the podcast, this week we go to Part 3 of Diary of A Creator. Through a personal short story, a lesson, and some scientific research on productivity, we create an abstract, yet tactical and open approach to becoming a true artist. This is not about getting dreamy, about getting up into the stratosphere, this is about allowing numbers and real personal evaluation to become a bettrer, truer artist. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do writing, editing, performing and producing it. Another episode of Driving Around. While stuck in traffic I talked about the idea of developing empathetic talent before promotion, and becoming an operator, an idea from Gary Vaynerchuk's podcast. Thank you to Gary for giving me the tools on how to grind...the motivation is all me, but he is a big help. I also spoke about how to manage yourself as people become attached to your projects. From there, I attached a new song, called Wonderland, which may be a part of the new EP. Enjoy and follow along for more @phormamusic on Instagram. Today I welcome back Driving Around. I break down in 2 parts how I am producing music these days. I find myself getting into good habits that I think can be helpful to you if you are trying to build music. Welcome to Strat-y-oakey…a fancy way to say me playing karaoke with my Fender Stratocastor, to lofi hits, and new ideas that I have. I have found lately how much I love lofi musicians, and how much they are helping me generate new ideas. I hope one day to collaborate with one, maybe even Feardog or Normandy :) The first portion of the podcast features Feardog Music, and the second part is my acoustic ideas of the week, the third part is from Normandy Beach Party. Lately I have been doing lofi meditation jams in the morning to wakeup, and get the hands and voice going. Feardogs music is a constant loop in my head, so I wanted to pay respect. This week, you will hear a 35 minute free form jam to his music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do making it. Welcome back to the podcast, this week we go to Part 2 of Diary of A Creator. As the title suggest, we talk about how we can learn in a deeper way. Though we have more information as creators then ever, we find ourselves more distracted then ever. I talk about a story of mine, my learning on this topic of learning, and how to be a better learner. If you do not have this tool of learning, I argue it is almost impossible to become a transcendent, revolutionary artist, athlete, or skill pracititioner. A bit intense, but I believe these pieces to be true. Enjoy! And Learn :) Follow along for more content on instagram or tiktok @phormamusic. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Welcome back to the podcast, this week I open up a monologue style of podcasting, talking about the process of becoming a skywriter. This episode is really for anyone who wants to be a creative, or is a creative. Wether it be art, athletics, martial arts, music, dance, I think there is insight to be gained from the pieces and stories I will be talking about. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do making it. This week I push towards a new style of podcast, something a bit more professional, and a combonation of Driving Around and Previous Voice Notes. I reflect on the importance of community, and consistnt skill development. Lately I have been connecting with and listening to a great producer in my local community, and musicians Ellis (@ellis_songs on Insta), and Yergurl, (@yergurlmusic on Insta), as well as drawing inspiration from Zartimus and John Mayer, and Eric Krasno. This is a special special accomplishment for me, hitting number 50. With that, I wanted to give you a peak behind the curtains, of my 1st drafts of tracks I am currently producing. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy making them. This week is a special week for me. I am going to reach 50 podcasts! I have seen a grateful and consistent support system of the podcast, even though it is a small following. I hope to keep growing it little by little. To those that listen thank you for your support. With that in mind, I wanted to release a new style of Skywriting today, where I write a song live. The song is called Always Be A Kid, and is still in development. We get into how I approach the styling of a song, the wording, what artists are influencing me, and different versions of the song. I think this podcast is great for those who are wanting to become a songwriter, developing songwriters, seasoned songwriters and producers. This week I took a substantial amount of time off from music, so I decided to do something completely experimentive and freeing by playing music in a new way, within my feels. I did this to kind of open up the rigidity that is created when you turn off your creative well. Some interesting ideas came from the music, I hope you enjoy it! An interesting juxtaposition of 2 days here. One day, I find writers block, the next, after a great sleep, and a podcast, I find new found inpiration and patience. Another week another podcast. I am quite happy where things are going, I just need to keep pushing my child like creativity to new heights. The new release of this song, and the preview of the next is a sign of things to come. I am hoping for a 15 song album, I just need to master the pieces I have. Hope you enjoy this weeks rendition of Skywriting. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Yup, we hit that uncreative wall. This is a bit of a rant on why I am low, and the slow process I am going to take to get out of it. Sometimes we wake up feeling like that video game evergy bar is on 2%, and my learning in times like these is to look around, do the easy thing, and not the hardest things. Small wins people :) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

A new segment, ever damn day, where I diseminate in 10 to 20 minutes whats on my mind. I need to get all the BS out somehow!
This week on the podcast, I struggle for creativity, but find resolution. My roots as a musician is to make chill, relaxing, meaningful music, and when the flows are not there, I reach out to the masters. Artists like Questlove, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, have all been influneces for the week. Sometimes you have to chalk up a songwriting week as an L, but that doesnt mean you do not keep pushing. Episode 30 is comprised of experimentive short form covers on John Mayer's Gravity, and Olivia, and lay down some acoustic tunes from my vacaton, and piano tunes I am working on. I hope you enjoy! This week on the podcast, I share a Radio interview I did with Gunner Smith from 101.5 The Hawk. You can find a link to Gunner’s Page below. We talk the podcast, my style, and everything in between for a short while. Thanks so much to Gunner, he has been great! I will be sharing more of my style of podcast next week, I am off this week away for Canada Day, for a bit of a musical break. http://www.steelcitymusic.ca/scm-interview-with-phor-ma-friday-june-19-2020/?fbclid=IwAR3Hl8o8xja6N40DYoi3ojPGOo5YhtWd2tK37G507eOYM2XsHTI7165L1Wc
(Turn it up a bit higher, it was hard to get the audio up) This week on the podcast, I try a new style, a new and better version of how I communicate, with words, sounds, and songs, all in one. I have to give a big thanks to Dear Young Rocker, a podcaster and musician I have virtually contacted through Instagram. She is as real as they come. Check her out @dearyoungrocker on Insta. As well, I go deep into my current practices, I play a song from Maggie Rogers called “Past Life,” I share some car audio of me and my thoughts, and talk about the impact of author Julia Cameron Check out the instagram page @skywritingpodcast, and search all my music on Soundcloud @phormamusic, or on Apple, Spotify, Google Play, Deezer, and more.
This week on the podcast, I dust off an old album idea that I stopped working on. It was something that was nice, but truthfully the instrumentation was something lacking for what I wanted to achieve. The songs on there are inspired by my amazing piano teachers, mentors, and favorite artists that have helped me on my path (Joni Mitchell and Lenoard Cohen). The last part of the podcast ends with an unproduced favorite song of mine by Bon Iver, called 'Heavenly Father.' I really appreciate everyone who listens, if you want to give me a follow @Phor.ma or @skywritingpodcast on Instagram, it means the world. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
This week is a flowy, fun, top of the mountain type of week. I am seeing the practice culimnate into cool connections, and sounds closer to where I want them. I feature a song from Tom Waites, Time, and from John Mayer, Olivia. As well, on my old beat up piano, I play a song from a poem featured in the Facebook group, The Isolation Journals, from a new connection named Heather. She is a beautiful writer, as are the other writers in the Facebook group (all praise Suleika). Enjoy the podcast, and message me if you ever want to chat! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
This week I start with 2 old songs I am working on again, an then some brand new ones. As a reminder, each week I write new content in prep for my 3rd studio album. These are all unfinished experiments. Some with instrumentals only, some with vocals. Enjoy!
This week I have some backpaged samples of great Splcie artists, and ideas I am working on. Most of these will be throwaways, but they are nice simple tunes for a long walk, drive, or time alone. Use headphones and prepare to reeeeelax.
As I make my big shiny tunes, I dream of having breaks in the album, 1 to 2 minute thought quandries for my listeners where they can take a break from the 3 and a half minute format, and see possibly where the inspiration comes from. Or they can have a personal touch with my musical journey. The exciting thing is that some of these songs are meeting these album break requirments. Enjoy the quandries!

More music, in prep for my new album. Every week I bring new ideas to life, in unedited fashion. Welcome to my musical journal. I would recommend boosting the volume a bit, these are unfinished pieces. Cheers!
The podcast starting her will begin to take a different direction. I realized I was not in love with the idea of writing written content and learning about great musicians. It restricted my ability to explore other topics that could be important to my music. From here, 2 to 3 times a week I will try to post a new podcast of new music, me just jamming, getting ready for my new album. Follow along on insta @phor.ma, or @musicofchris. Cheers :)
This is the second album I have put together, really it is an extension of the first album, and songs I kind of need to discard. Like many greats first albums, you see flaws, discrepencies, rants, and weirdness. I believe thats what these first two albums are. These are albums meant to be taken off my platforms one day, and kept in the backpages, in my podcast, there for the diehards. Soon I will be there, soon I will find my stride. I hope you enjoy these songs, and more to come. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

This week on the podcast, I break down Bruce Springsteen's book Born To Run. Part 1 looks at Bruce's formative years and how the aesethic of his hometown Freehold, New Jersey, and the Irish and Italian family influences shaped him into a young, thirsty guitar beating American. He also dives into his first experiences with popular music, from Ed Sullivan, to Elvis, to The Beatles. I love this book because it is a first hand account from Bruce, written in more mature years over an 8 year span.
