If you've ever worried about what happens to your family when a loved one passes, episode 406 of the Grief and Happiness podcast is essential listening. Inherited property expert Alexa Rosario reveals why 1 in 3 siblings never speak again after going through the inheritance process — and shares the framework she built after losing her own father to help families protect both their legacy and their relationships. In This Episode, You Will Learn:(00:58) Alexa's story: losing her father and the probate nightmare (04:56) Why inherited property is never logical — and attachment styles (10:12) The four "power vacuums" that open when a parent dies (15:02) How to start legacy conversations without the death talk (15:28) Why recipes and traditions are the real inheritance (20:50) Storyworth: capturing a loved one's memories (23:27) Discovering hidden family history through love letters (28:36) Inside Heirloom: from closure to legacy coronation (34:43) How to access Heirloom and find a trained agentAlexa Rosario is a South Florida-based real estate professional and founder of Heirloom, a platform that helps families navigate inherited property and senior transitions with both emotional intelligence and logistical precision. Licensed since 2013, it was the sudden loss of her father in 2018 — followed by a grueling probate process and the loss of her grandmother less than a year later — that set her on a mission to transform the way America inherits property. Her work has been featured in Yahoo Finance, Women of Influence, and SFBW, and she is actively training agents across the country to bring Heirloom's heart-led approach to more families nationwide. In this episode, Alexa and Emily explore what Alexa calls "the long grief" — the emotional and logistical weight that descends on families after a loved one passes. Alexa introduces four "power vacuums" that open during inheritance: the provision vacuum (financial systems that vanish with the person who managed them), the soul vacuum (loss of the family's tradition-keeper), the legacy vacuum (loss of the person who gave the family its identity), and the secrets vacuum (revelations that surface after someone is gone). She also connects attachment styles to sibling conflict during grief, and shares her six-part Estate Transition Framework — moving families from emotional closure through curation and the property decision, to a final "coronation" that helps carry traditions forward — all rooted in her belief that the true inheritance is never the property, but the memories and identity passed from one generation to the next.Connect with Alexa Rosario:WebsiteSubstackInstagramLinkedInBook: Alexa Rosario - The Legacy YearLet's Connect: WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramTwitterPinterestThe Grief and Happiness AllianceBook: Emily Thiroux Threatt - Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief Hosted on Acast. The "Zero Deal" Statistic: In early 2025, reports showed that over 70% of active agents (those with a license registered to a Multiple Listing Service) struggled to close any transactions. **Five-Year Failure Rate:** Approximately 87% of real estate agents leave the industry within five years, according to Yahoo Finance and LinkedIn. In this role, he focuses on fostering strong professional relationships and ensuring seamless collaboration to meet organizational goals. Having grown up in a small town, I struggled in traditional school and often jumped between ideas because I didn't understand the importance of commitment. Everything changed when I stopped chasing shortcuts and focused on building one business properly. Today, I run a sales-driven company built around partnerships rather than advertisements. We work directly with real estate agents to navigate challenging deals, but the lessons learned apply far beyond real estate: how to design relationship-based sales systems, how to avoid "shiny object syndrome," how to build leverage instead of just relying on income, and how discipline outside of work directly impacts performance within the business. B”H Today's episode is with Emily Guy Birken — Plutus Award–winning financial writer, author of five personal finance books, and a longtime friend of the show. Emily is back with a story you need to hear. If you've followed Emily's work — from The 5 Years Before You Retire to End Financial Stress Now — you know she makes complex financial topics feel clear, relatable, even comforting. She's written for AARP, Fast Company, Yahoo Finance… and she's been helping readers make smart money decisions for over a decade. But today, Emily's not here to talk about retirement, Social Security, or gamification. Today, she's here to share something far more personal — and honestly, shocking. Because despite being raised by a financial planner… despite knowing estate planning backwards and forwards… despite doing everything “right”… Emily lived through a $5.5 million inheritance nightmare that will make you rethink how you set up your own estate plan. What went wrong, how it could've been prevented, and the lessons we all need to hear — that's what this conversation is about. Here's Emily Guy Birken. You can find Emily at emilyguybirken.com and all of her books on Amazon or anywhere books are sold. The post 457: The $5.5 Million Inheritance Theft You Need to Know About with Emily Guy Birken appeared first on Yael Trusch.
From Olympic sprinter to trusted advisor helping entrepreneurs save millions in taxes, David Flores Wilson shares proven strategies for QSBS planning, equity compensation design, and preparing business owners for successful exits both financially and personally. In this episode of the DealQuest Podcast, host Corey Kupfer sits down with David Flores Wilson, CFA, CFP, Managing Partner at Sinceres, who advises entrepreneurs and business owners in New York City on personal financial planning from formation to exit and beyond. David is a multiple Investopedia Top 100 Financial Advisor whose guidance has appeared in CNBC, Yahoo Finance, the New York Times, US News and World Report, and Investment News. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: In this episode, you'll discover how QSBS planning can potentially exclude $10 million to $70 million or more in capital gains from taxes when structured correctly, why LLC to C Corp conversion timing creates dramatic differences in tax outcomes, and how QSBS stacking through non-grantor trusts multiplies exclusions. David shares why equity compensation plans often fail to motivate the specific people they target and what questions to ask before choosing a vehicle. You'll also learn about the personal readiness component of exit planning that determines whether entrepreneurs thrive or struggle after selling their businesses. DAVID'S JOURNEY: David's path to financial planning started with entrepreneurial instincts in an unexpected place. Growing up in Guam, he ran a comic book arbitrage business as a kid, discovering price differences between local stores and mainland mail-order catalogs. His father was a CPA with a home office, and despite wanting nothing to do with accounting, David absorbed financial concepts through osmosis that would later prove invaluable. After college at UC Berkeley, David joined Lehman Brothers and worked through the financial crisis. During that time, colleagues started coming to him with financial planning questions, and he realized helping people with their money was his true passion. He sat on that realization for years before eventually transitioning to financial planning. When Covid hit in 2020, David and his partner Dan Ryan launched Sinceres, and the firm has been growing since. OLYMPICS LESSON: David represented Guam in track and field at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, competing in the 200 and 400 meters. The experience taught him something crucial about career selection. Unlike running, where pushing harder brings diminishing returns and constant injury risk, financial planning offers the opportunity to improve incrementally every single day. That compounding knowledge approach now drives how he serves clients. KEY INSIGHTS: QSBS planning stands out as potentially the most powerful tax planning tool for qualifying entrepreneurs. C Corps meeting holding period and active business requirements can exclude $10 million in gains, or 10 times basis for older shares, with new legislation increasing that to $15 million. The planning becomes even more powerful with LLC conversions where market value at conversion becomes the QSBS basis. The biggest mistake with equity compensation involves choosing vehicles based on what owners like rather than what motivates specific employees. "Equity" can mean participation in profits, upside potential, a seat at the table, or financial disclosure. Different people value these differently, and the best planning starts with understanding objectives before selecting tools. Exit planning involves three components that David implements from the first meeting with business owners. Getting personally ready addresses what provides purpose after selling. Getting financially ready ensures the numbers work. Getting business ready covers everything from customer concentration to management team development. The recent One Big Beautiful Bill Act has changed QSBS holding periods, SALT deductions, and AMT rules. Business owners should review their planning with advisors rather than assuming previous strategies still apply. Perfect for entrepreneurs considering entity structure decisions, business owners thinking about exit planning, and anyone interested in tax-efficient wealth building strategies. You've probably heard about real estate before as a great way to grow or invest your money for the long-term. But that doesn't mean that you can just start with no strategy, or plan, however. In this episode of Women and Wealth, Regina talks with Lindsay Davis, CEO and co-founder of Spartan Invest, about building passive income through single-family real estate. Welcome to another episode of Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different, featuring the legendary Ray Wang. In this memorable conversation, Christopher and Ray dive deep into the latest developments shaping the world of technology, business, and careers. From dissecting recent tech earnings from giants like Apple, Meta, Tesla and Microsoft to sharing insights from Davos and contemplating the implications of AI for the future of work and entrepreneurship. This episode delivers high-caliber analysis and practical takeaways for anyone navigating today’s rapidly evolving landscape. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. Lessons from Davos and the New Economic Realities Returning from a bustling Davos, Ray Wang shares his observations on how global leaders and executives are tackling an era defined by uncertainty, rapid technology adoption and a relentless pursuit of efficiency. One of Ray's core takeaways is the prevailing theme of “margin compression,” where even the world's largest corporations are working harder than ever just to achieve modest growth. Companies are now measured by their ability to scale exponentially, as illustrated by India's ISRO launching rockets at a fraction of NASA's cost, fundamentally altering competitive dynamics across industries. Ray explains that the rise of AI turbocharges this transformation by opening up “infinite possibilities.” Companies no longer just compete on physical or financial assets, but on their ability to harness vast data resources, quickly innovate and make sharp strategic choices about what problems to solve—and, crucially, what not to do. Privacy challenges, especially for companies like Apple, arise in this new era, making it difficult to deliver world-class AI solutions while maintaining rigorous data protection standards. Both Christopher and Ray emphasize that managing growth, inflation and investment are more complex than ever, with the U.S. outpacing much of the world in GDP growth, yet operating in a global environment rife with policy and market uncertainties. AI, Tech Earnings, and the Rise of the New IPO Era The conversation pivots to the massive investment and exuberance surrounding generative AI and tech infrastructure. Ray points out that while there are fears about overbuilding capacity or creating a circular funding loop among AI companies, there is still significant real opportunity. The current phase has seen enormous capital pour into building data centers and scalable AI platforms. Landmark IPOs from OpenAI, Databricks and others are expected to reshape the tech landscape. Despite market fluctuations and some outsized reactions to earnings, the fundamentals for big tech remain robust. Companies like Apple have solidified their status as luxury brands, even as others like Tesla and Meta retool and pivot to sustain long-term relevance and unlock new revenue streams such as robotics and energy. At the structural level, venture capital itself is in flux. Many VC firms have become indistinguishable from private equity, constrained both by too much and too little available capital relative to the demands of today's tech startups. The gap between small angel, family office, or solo GP funds and the mega funds has widened so much that the “middle” has all but disappeared. It is now entirely possible for one-person companies, through the leverage of AI and autonomous agents, to achieve scale and revenues previously thought impossible. Ray predicts it is likely we will see a single founder build a billion-dollar annual revenue company within the next five years, echoing the democratization and disruption that generative AI promises. Building Legendary Companies and Careers in the Age of AI Christopher and Ray close their discussion by exploring what all these rapid changes mean for leaders and individuals. For CEOs and entrepreneurs, the formula for thriving is clear but audacious. Leaders must design their companies to be fully autonomous and authentic, constantly reinventing their business as if they were attempting to disrupt themselves. Boards need to be stacked with people who grasp the new fundamentals: margin compression, exponential scale, and infinite possibilities brought by AI. Combining domain expertise with technical agility is more critical than ever, as the fusion of seasoned judgment and lightning-fast, innovative execution is where breakthroughs occur. On a personal level, Ray stresses that knowledge and execution are becoming commodities, rapidly automated by advances in AI. To stay relevant, individuals must become “macro analysts,” adept at synthesizing big ideas and patterns, deeply immersed in experimenting with new technologies and surrounded by others who are passionate about their own crafts. The traditional playbooks for career building, education, and even family strategies are being rewritten in real-time. The U.S. faces global competition for talent and innovation, and entrepreneurial energy is no longer confined to Silicon Valley or New York. The nature of immigration, investment and even educational choices must be reconsidered for new generations. In a world where the location and structure of opportunity are shifting, only those who embrace change, foster diverse collaborations and pursue purpose will continue to define the next era of legendary achievement. As both Christopher and Ray reflect, living and leading like Rob Burgess—embracing boldness, curiosity and authenticity—remains the path to being truly legendary in this rapidly changing world. Over the past 13 years, Mel has also written 5 books about business and money including the global bestseller, Unf*ck Your Finances, and her latest book (released Feb 2026), Dare to be Wealthy. So, she has the theory. But Mel also has the life experience. She grew up in the Western Suburbs of Sydney in a violent, often inconsistent household and came back from less than nothing in her early thirties, after giving all of her money to charity (a move she instantly regretted). Despite these starts, set-backs and mistakes – she is now a multi-millionaire gaining financial independence from the strategies she put in place for herself. Mel genuinely believes, as a result of her own story and working with tens of thousands of women and families, that understanding how to build wealth shouldn't be abdicated or just for the select few who can afford it – but is something that everyone can achieve. Mel is regularly asked to comment on money and finances making regular TV and radio appearances including Triple J's The Hack, the Today Show, Weekend Sunrise, Weekend Today, Sky Business and The Daily Edition. She has also been featured in or written articles for a variety of places including CEO Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Who, Vogue, Yahoo Finance and had a fortnightly column in the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne's Age for 7 years.

You did everything “right” to become a doctor, so why does freedom still feel out of reach? Many physicians look successful on paper yet feel trapped by long hours, relentless responsibility, and a paycheck that still controls their schedule. In this episode, Russ and Joey sit down with Dr. Vikram Raya to explain why high income doesn't equal freedom and what actually changes the game. Vikram breaks down the eight forms of wealth, showing how time, health, relationships, and purpose matter just as much as dollars. Along the way, you'll hear practical ways doctors can move from trading time for money to creating passive income through better cash flow, investing habits, and intentional life design. If you're a doctor (or high earner) who's tired of feeling stuck, this conversation will challenge your assumptions and help you map the next right step. It starts with an honest inventory and a simple plan.Top three things you will learn: -Why high income can still create a “golden cage” for doctors-How the eight forms of wealth reframe what “rich” actually means-The system shift that helps doctors buy back time with passive incomeGrab Vikram's free book: -Perfect Week Formula for Doctors - VikramRaya.comAbout Our Guest:Vikram Raya is a doctor, investor, entrepreneur, high-performance coach, speaker, and philanthropist. # Trump's Legal Battles Heat Up at the Supreme CourtWelcome back to Quiet Please. We're diving straight into what's shaping up to be a pivotal moment for Donald Trump's presidency, as the Supreme Court prepares to rule on cases that could define his entire second term.Let's start with the centerpiece of Trump's economic agenda. The Supreme Court is preparing to decide the legality of Trump's sweeping tariffs on foreign products, a case Trump himself has called the most important case ever. According to reporting from SCOTUSblog and Yahoo Finance, Trump warned the court in a recent social media post that if they rule against his tariffs, "we're screwed." The court heard arguments back in November, and a ruling could come as soon as this week. What makes this case critical is the stakes involved. If the justices side with Trump's challengers, the government could be forced to refund over 100 billion dollars in tariffs already collected from American businesses and consumers. That's real money that could reshape the economy depending on which way the court goes. But the tariff case is just one piece of a much larger legal puzzle Trump is navigating. According to SCOTUSblog, the Supreme Court is also preparing to hear arguments on January 21st regarding Trump's push to remove Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors. This ties into a broader constitutional question about whether Trump has the power to unilaterally fire the heads of independent agencies, which would overturn 90 years of legal precedent if the court rules in his favor. Cook is just one person Trump wants removed. He's also targeted Federal Trade Commission officials, making this a test of executive power that could reshape how the president interacts with the federal bureaucracy. There's another major case looming as well. The Supreme Court will decide the legality of a Hawaii law that prohibits people from carrying firearms onto private property without explicit consent from the owner. This case, Wolford versus Lopez, will test the limits of Second Amendment rights against property rights in a way the court hasn't fully addressed before.Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is also set to address a case challenging prohibitions on conversion therapy for minors, the discredited practice aimed at changing sexual orientation or gender identity. According to Axios, Republicans argue these restrictions violate the First Amendment, framing this as a free speech issue rather than a health and safety matter.Throughout all of this legal maneuvering, Trump has repeatedly used the Supreme Court's emergency procedures known as the shadow docket to suspend lower court decisions while cases are ongoing. According to USA Today, this gave Trump victories on everything from keeping tariffs in place to withholding foreign aid and conducting immigration raids. Now those emergency wins face scrutiny in the full court proceedings. These Supreme Court cases will ripple across Trump's entire presidency, affecting economic policy, executive power, and civil rights all at once. Thanks for tuning in. Today, we're delighted to speak with entrepreneur Moza-Bella Tram, CEO and founder of Moza-Bella LLC. Moza-Bella is an immigrant with a remarkable entrepreneurial journey. She is a TEDx speaker, a mentor, a business consultant, and has written several books, including the bestseller Powerful Female Immigrants, which she co-authored. She is also the host of the digital TV show Lessons from Failures. Stay tuned as we explore Moza-Bella's fascinating journey and the experiences that have shaped her work. Moza-Bella's Journey Moz-Bella was born in Vietnam shortly after the Vietnam War. She came to the U.S. as an adult immigrant 25 years ago, leaving behind family, familiarity, and certainty. Her experience was similar to that of many immigrants- the unknown, limited support, and the pressure to succeed, for herself, and for her family. She was told she was too old to learn English fluently, but she pushed forward anyway, focusing on clear communication rather than perfection, and using frustration as motivation to grow. Early Career and Foundations in Hospitality Before immigrating, Moza-Bella worked in Vietnam's hospitality industry at Omni Saigon and later Sofitel Saigon, where she developed an appreciation for professionalism, service, and strategic promotions. Working in public relations exposed her to branding, credibility, and global perspectives, and hospitality became her first window into the world beyond Vietnam's borders. Education, Resistance, and Choosing Her Own Path After arriving in the U.S., Moza-Bella encountered skepticism and prejudice and was discouraged from pursuing higher education. Despite that, she earned her MBA in Marketing from the University of Hartford, driven by her parents' sacrifices and her belief in the right to choose her own future. Her early ambition was to build a global hospitality career, but over time, new opportunities and realities reshaped her direction. Adaptation, Grit, and Multiple Careers Moza-Bella supported herself through school and beyond by working in nail salons, restaurants, interpretation services, construction-related marketing, network marketing, real estate, and, eventually, nursing after the 2008 financial crisis. Each role added to her skills, perspective, and resilience. Redefining Success and Time Freedom Moza-Bella wanted the flexibility to care for her parents and shape her own life, so she chose to become an entrepreneur. She invested heavily in personal development and coaching, believing that free information offers knowledge, but paid learning creates transformation. Building a Consulting Business with Purpose Over the last five years, Moza-Bella built Moza-Bella LLC into a business consulting company with a growing team. Her mission is to help strong entrepreneurs become well-known in their industries, allowing them to create meaningful impact. She believes that change happens one person at a time, through a ripple effect of shared growth and visibility. Lessons from Failures and Shared Wisdom Through her digital TV show, Lessons from Failures, Moza-Bella highlights the realities behind success stories. Entrepreneurs, doctors, and professionals from many fields share how hardship shaped their decisions, often after years of trial and error. She emphasizes the value of learning lessons sooner, challenging entrenched systems, and prioritizing growth while time is still on your side. Meaning Behind the Name Moza-Bella The name "Moza" means mother of pearl, representing an oyster that transforms pain into something valuable by embracing it rather than resisting it. For Moza-Bella, that symbolizes human potential, cultivating adversity into wisdom, then opening oneself to share it with others. Bio: Moza-Bella Tram Founder and CEO, TEDx Speaker, Author, Mentor, Business Consultant Moza-Bella is an international speaker, author, and CEO dedicated to helping professionals find authentic fulfillment and success. She has over 15 years of experience in healthcare and more than 20 years in business development. Illana Raia's journey to entrepreneurship stemmed from her love of law and her personal experiences with mentorship. Despite loving her career as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer, she took a break to raise her children and later rejoined her firm. Realizing the impact of showing her daughter accomplished women at work, Illana envisioned scaling this experience to benefit other girls. Chris's SummaryJim and I discuss secure income as we review a Yahoo Finance article for middle-class retirees. We use it to highlight longevity considerations and the differences between guaranteed income approaches and traditional safe withdrawal rate or Monte Carlo methods. We also cover where spending-segmented planning and hybrid long-term-care annuities might fit in. Jim's “Pithy” SummaryChris and I discuss an article titled “How Middle-Class Retirees Can Make Their Money Last 25 Years or Longer” to get into the parts of retirement planning that actually matter when you may be retired for far longer than the industry tends to model. The article leaves out the realities of aging, the changing ability to manage complex finances, and the specific expenses that follow you for life, which lets me lay out why the Minimum Dignity Floor needs to be treated differently from everything else rather than blended into one big withdrawal strategy that assumes stability where none exists. I talk through why I push back so hard on traditional safe withdrawal rate thinking, especially the notion that retirees should simply trim spending whenever markets dip. I know you’ve probably heard me say it before – that approach ignores the reality many retirees face by not addressing what people cannot reduce and overstating what they can. It also glosses over how income behaves differently depending on its source, why some streams ratchet upward while others swing unpredictably, and how risk pooling creates stability that a portfolio alone cannot. The gaps in the article also give room to dig into long-term care, including why certain tax-driven situations make hybrid LTC annuities funded by non-qualified contracts worth considering. And underlying all of this is the point that the goal is not to react to markets for decades on end—it is to build a structure that supports the life you want to live. That is where secure income becomes essential. Show Notes: Yahoo Finance Article The post The Importance of Secure Income for Retirement: EDU #2550 appeared first on The Retirement and IRA Show.
