A Conversation About Comedy, Pop Culture, TV, Movies, Improv, Relationships and Life.
Guys, this is our season finale! (Reggae Horn) We also hit another minor, but great milestone with this episode. Say hello to episode 40!! How cool is that? If you've listened to us from the start, you're amazing. If you just started, where were you? It makes sense to have Kristine Shadid join us for another episode. She's stupid funny, a great friend, and always brings her A-game. On today's episode, we continue our annual tradition of giving each other summer goals. It's really a labour of love to do our segment, "I love you, please change." Christina also talks about her trip home to see her family and Ryan shares the worst was that funny of the series. Ryan also shared his fear about looking like Joey Fatone with not great results. Kristine is such a lovely guest and provided us with her own goals for our summer along with giving some stellar relationship advice. We'll miss you over the summer but can't wait to hang out soon! Thanks for helping us make it to episode 40.
It's good to be back! Two episodes left until our summer break and we gotta be honest, sometimes getting to the studio to record together is just magic. In today's episode, Christina tells a story about confronting the man who was sending her sexually suggestive poetry and how she misinterpreted his kind gestures. It was this meeting that helped Christina determine how she wanted to be proposed to. In turn, Ryan shares his recent experience with Soul Cycle and the experience of a lifetime he had joining the Soul Cycle cult. Later in today's episode Ryan talks about his hate of birthday cards and Christina talks about her time at progressive summer camp. Ryan also delves into his fears about his changing body. We were privileged to host Mike Kosowan in today's episode. He is a long-time Ottawa improviser and one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet. Ryan and Mike get downright nerdy about improv and spend 20 minutes geeking out. If like nerds talking about nerdy stuff, this episode is for you! As always, we are so thrilled to have you listen to Scene Partners and please tell your friends and rate our podcast on the platform of your choice to show us some love.
Ok folks, this is one of those episodes you're going to want to listen through the whole thing. We were thrilled to host Ryan's wife Sara today's episode. Of course, she does it all with grace and poise while Ryan and Christina manage to make it awkward as hell. In the rest of today's episode, Ryan and Christina launch a small business for all your party planning needs. Christina talks about her passion for child care and while Ryan shares his passionate disgust for Bath and Body Works. Christina also asks the big question, what's the appropriate age differential in a relationship? This was probably one of our favourite episodes to record all season and that was even before Sara came to join us. If you ever wondered what it would be like to have Ryan and Christina flustered at the same time, this ones for you Remember we rely on word of mouth. If you like Scene Partners, tell someone else you like Scene Partners. It'll be great.
We had so much fun recording this episode. Sometimes you just get a little hyper and things get stupid. Christina, fresh off a trip to London and Ryan, fresh off birthing and delivery courses with his wife, have plenty to talk about. On today's episode Ryan teaches Christina about her body and what she can expect during childbirth. It's as informative as it is beautiful. Christina tells us about the British comedy scene and her reaction to meeting a real life British Lord. Hint, you already know it was awkward. I should maybe warn you about our interview with our two guests today. You've heard each of them independently on Scene Partners but on today's episode we host Andrew Wambolt and David Haddad as "comedy best friends". The interview falls apart almost immediately and we are pleased to present to you a very chaotic and very funny interview with these fantastic comedians. We finish by providing impeccable relationship advice to a woman thinking of dating a cannibal. Finally, please mark your calendars. A Little Awkward will be hosting an improv show on June 12th, which will be Ryan's last show, pre-baby. We'd love to have you! Thanks as always for listening and if you haven't, please rate and review Scene Partners!
It's important in a friendship to call out your friends when they are acting awkward. It's important to be that person who can protect them from public embarrassment by giving them gentle advice. If your friend was so obsessed with Paddington Bear that they had to budget the amount of money they spent Paddington Bear swag, you would step in right? Right. Ok. Good. On today's episode, we explore some of the trickiest life questions. What happens when you run into an ex in public? Can Christina wear heels or is she already too tall? What's funnier, Christina or the spelling of her last name? Christina tells us about her experience at a comedy roast and Ryan talks about a movie he once starred in that is awkward as heck. Ryan also complains about beard culture and how he just wants to be left out of it. It was an absolute thrill to have Al Connors join us today. Al is a rock of the Ottawa comedy scene and has done more for Ottawa improv than anyone! He's funny, charming, and has a sexy podcast voice. Ps. Check out our instagram to see two people trying really hard to improve their public image.
On today's episode, Christina and Ryan go live to Coachella to give a rundown of all the sick fashion, accessories, bands, and celeb gossip. You won't believe the interview they scored with Johnny Depp, Christopher Plummer, and Mandy Moore. You know, all the talk of upcoming fatherhood has Ryan thinking about 1) his dad bod goals and 2) being a daddy instagram influencer. It's not hard. Just take your kids to sick places and wear your Adidas track suit. On today's episode Ryan discusses his plans to be an instagram influencer and Christina shares with Ryan her love of a new show full of fake tans, bikinis, and deception, Love Island. The two also take time to dissect Ryan's tendencies to buy things of infomercials. We were thrilled to host Main Street Revival as our musical guests and improv inspiration. These talented gentleman play two songs for us and inspire a scene about a mysterious man who only goes out at night. Finally, the Main Street Revival boys help us give relationship advice to a girl who is obsessed with Chandler from Friends. Please remember to rate, subscribe and share.
Have you ever been out in public with someone, maybe a friend or lover, who is awful to service staff? What do you do? Can you even be friends with them or is it something you just tell yourself is a cute quirk and you look past it? Today we answer that question. We've all seen awful movies. But you know when there are those awful movies you just love to watch over and over, despite being awful. Name your favourite. In fact, name your favourite and see what the score is on Rotten Tomatoes. If your repeat awful movie scores below a 10 on RT, you win! This episode was such a pleasure to record with Jordan Moffat, one of our favourite comedians, improvisers, authors, and baseball fans. He's just an all around good guy. On today's episode Ryan shares his feelings about turning 33 and Christina also comes of age, in a different way, by trying to get her driver's license. We also get a cute as buttons update on her #singlelife and the we go on a search for the perfect sound effect to compliment the podcast. Here is something you should be thinking of this week. What ever happened to Luke Wilson. Don't you miss him? We can't wait for you to hear today's episode and we welcome your feedback. Please email any time at scenepartnerspodcast@gmail.com. Finally, be sure to send some love to Jordan Moffat after this episode and check out his new book at https://badbookspress.bigcartel.com/product/clicking-into-place-by-jordan-moffatt
Did you know we have listeners in France?? Huh. What a joy it is to provide another delightful episode for you. On today's episode Christina learns about Ryan's unfortunate tanning incident which occurred on his recent trip to Hawaii. The results of which left Christina disgusted and sick to her stomach. Christina shares a story about the worst "almost tattoo" she ever got and it's a doozy. Ottawa Improv Fest just occurred in our little town and the crew dissects what a wonderful weekend it truly was! Funny story, this episode's segment of "Was That Funny?" turned in to a full-scale brawl with Christina taking down patriarchy, one loveable character at a time. Finally, we were absolutely pleased to host Leslie Cserepy, a veteran of the Ottawa improv scene as our special guest! As always, we love when you tell your friends about the show. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the long-time friend, or ex-lover and suggest Scene Partners for their next road trip/commute/wedding dance soundtrack.
We're back! Today, Christina breaks the harsh news to Ryan that she is not interested in co-staring on the Amazing Race with him. Christina also goes into great detail about what her Tinder profile would be and why it's so hard to meet a man on a dating app. It's not all bad though, Ryan offers Christina stellar dating advice and they also reminisce about the Office, which leads to a discussion about awkward comedy and whether it's a cop-out to say offensive things. We were thrilled to host Andrew Wambolt, a veteran of the Ottawa stand-up scene. We ask him the life-long question, if you propose to someone, can you take it back and still stay together? Remember, tell your friends about Scene Partners! Write us an email! ScenePartnersPodcast@gmail.com
Does this episode bring you joy? Then keep it, if not, throw it away. Thank you for tuning in yet again and joining us for another episode! It's the dog days of winter and here you are, turning up to make us happy. Surprisingly, this episode goes off the rails when Christina starts talking about Bunz Trading and Ryan is seeking advice for selling a dresser on kijiji. Meanwhile, Christina shares a story about her sister and #bodygoals and we take some time today to talk about fetishes. As you imagine, this would not be an episode to listen to with your parents or child thanks to Christina's poor grasp of ... many things sexual. Our dear friend Melissa Britney joins us to talk about improv, what she's watching, and her new boo. Please like, subscribe, and refer Scene Partners to your friends. You can also email us at ScenePartnersPodcast@gmail.com!
It's always fun when we can base a whole episode off Christina's heart-break. You'll never guess what we base this episode off of this time.... On today's episode we spend an inordinate amount of time arguing about new sexual slang. Ryan learns why Christina is a mouth-breather by obligation, not choice and we seek to answer the age old question, how old is too old to say "daddy"? Ryan shares his views on the new season of the Bachelor and Christina dishes about season 2 of Friends from College. We were pleased to have Greg Houston re-join us in studio and share about his new comedy life in Toronto (@greghoustoncomedy). Finally, we also thank you for the love you've been showing Scene Partners! Make sure you subscribe, review, and share with your friends your favourite episode.
Happy New Year! Life isn't easy. Recording a podcast after breaking up with your long-time partner isn't easy either, but if you're not laughing, you're crying. In our first episode of 2019, Christina shares how the first few weeks of singleness have unfolded. If you don't love Christina as a strong, amazing woman after this episode, you never will. Ryan shares memories of his life as a hot summer camp councillor and a story about the most resilient woman he's ever met. KB Harwood a fantastic new Ottawa comedian joins us to talk about her love of comedy and she provides relationship advice to a man struggling to find his masculinity.
There is nothing better than celebrating our last episode of 2018 with you! It's been a fantastic year all thanks to you. In today's episode Christina talks about her wild persona at holiday parties and the dumbest couple fight she's ever been in. She also talks about what is likely the most ludicrous shower schedule in the world. We decided to finish this year with a bang and so we were joined by Colleen Wang to talk about the best bachelorette party she's ever been to. Colleen also gives fantastic relationship advice to a man whose dog loving wife belittles his dog knowledge to her gal pals. Have you rated and reviewed and shared Scene Partners in 2018? Make it your pre New Years resolution to do it! See you next year!
This is the second last episode of 2018! This year has been something, hasn't it? Yikes. Have you rated and shared and reviewed Scene Partners in 2018? We'd love it if you would! One of the most effective ways to get what you want, is writing a letter to big corporate giants. Ryan talks about his experience of getting a free car from Mazda and remember that show Extreme Makeover Home Edition? Welp, there may or may not be a solid impression of Ty (the host) on today's episode. This episode Christina really gets into the holiday spirit by reviewing what is surely to become a Christmas classic, a Christmas Prince Two. Wow it gets emotional and very intense. Please enjoy. We were thrilled to host Matt Barrow and Deborah Ring on today's episode. Two wonderful people that came back to show us how much they've matured.
Wow this was such a fun episode to record. Maybe there was something in the water but you'll be able to tell during our time with our wonderful guest Kristine Shadid, things get a bit stupid. In today's episode Ryan becomes Christina's life coach, they argue over the size of an elephant's penis and each discuss (in detail) their breakups. Kristine Shadid explains what cosplay is and it was a very divisive segment of relationship advice. It was generally just a stupid episode. Please rate and recommend Scene Partners to your friends!
Our first episode after our trip to New York! Ya, ya, it was fun but it's good to be home. On today's episode Christina attacks Ryan for some of his behaviour on the trip and he just takes the criticism in stride. Christina begins to prep her stand-up set for her office Christmas party, which will be a mess. Ryan asks Christina for some office advice while Ryan tells a story about the time his mom was most proud of him. It had to do with a parent teacher meeting and awkward boys. Please give us a rate and review on itunes/google play and drop us a tweet or DM!
So, Scene Partners isn't perfect. Did we record this episode before Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson broke up? Yes. Did we leave in our conversation about them being a cute couple despite their break up? Yes. Deal with it! We're doing our best over here. Please enjoy this episode about love and loss. This episode we welcome Hayley Robateau who brightens up the studio with her inspirational speech on improv and getting over yourself.
Now that we're past Canadian Thanksgiving, it's time to talk about body goals. It's hard to achieve your body goals, that's why they are goals. Ryan talks about getting as close as he ever will to his body goals, while Christina talks swimwear. On this episode, Ryan and Christina record in studio for the first time of season two and catch up from their wonderful summer. Christina talks about her new favourite British dating show and her violent sleeping habits. This episode features stand-up/writer/comedian Tavis Maplesden. Ps. we missed you all and thanks for coming back!
Sometimes you come up with a stupid idea but because you already advertised it, you need to follow-thru with it. Ryan stupidly had an idea for a live show and Christina stupidly didn't stop him. In truth we had a blast recording live in Ottawa for some of the most wonderful people. We were so fortunate to have incredibly funny people from Crush Improv, the Improv Embassy and stand ups - Jennifer Whiteford and Lorenzo Patino join us for the big party. JP even made an appearance. Please enjoy little longer than usual kick-off to Season 2! We look forward to having a blast with you all through this season. Don't forget to subscribe and rate the podcast. Oh and tell your friends!
First off, thanks everyone for being so kind and listening to our first season! You guys made it all worthwhile. We also met so many amazing comedians that are making the world a better place and funny as all hell. On today's episode, Christina reads an old letter to a former teacher that she wrote on her first week of university. It's a wild ride of awkward. It seems like there is some sort of sexual awakening that happens in the letter but it's unclear. Ryan becomes an art connoisseur and they talk about how they want to be buried and what Christina's funeral will be like. Ryan tells a story about the first/only girl who did something crazy for him. It was weird. Listeners, have you ever done this for a crush? We were so fortunate to have Jennifer Whiteford, an Ottawa stand-up comedian join us. She makes us laugh but also shares some of the most insightful stuff you'll hear all season.
This is our second last episode of the season! Wow! We were thrilled to have Shit Hot Shit Show - an Ottawa-based sketch comedy group join us to promo their Ottawa Fringe Festival show. Lindsay, one of the cast members, does a very funny sketch about a phone sex operator in the 1980s but I had to cut it for time. What you will hear on this episode is Ryan's story about getting fired from bible camp. Christina attempts to find a fruit that would describe Ryan's body shape, and tells a story about incorporating a sexual assault joke into her stand up. Are you ever too scared to confront someone, even though you know you're in the right? Christina gives her confrontation tips for all shy people. Or people who just don't like confronting people. Who else has World Cup fever!!?? No? Ok. Please rate and comment on our podcast on itunes/google play/whatever
Before we tell you about this episode, two quick things! First, Scene Partners is planning a live show! Book it in your calendars. On September 12th, Scene Partners will be recording their kick-off of Season 2. You can be part of the show and see some special guests from Season 1. Second, please rate and subscribe to the show. We love that. Now, back to what you've been waiting for. What's wrong with going to a sports bar? What's the worst service you've ever had at a restaurant and still tipped? If you had to get one cliched quote tattooed on your lower back, what would it be? These are a few of the big life questions tackled today. At one point, the conversation turns into a ridiculous debate about Madonna lyrics and you can imagine it's well informed. We are thrilled to have a very funny David Brennan on our show today. A sketch comedian, stand up veteran and one of the nicest dudes you've ever met.
This episode never really gets started. See, Ryan asks Christina about a recent quote by DJ Khalid, she obviously doesn't know who DJ Khalid is and from there, it all goes down hill. Also, why do awkward things happen in bathrooms? Why can't we just be in peace. Christina talks about her recent stand-up success in L.A. and the men of her dreams she met along the way. We are honoured to have the very funny Lorenzo Patino, an American living in Ottawa stand-up comic join us for this episode.
Would you date your step-sibling? Why would you even answer this question. It's best if you don't even answer. On this week's episode Ryan talks about his girls weekend and Christina plots how to be the sexiest person in L.A. Des Warmington, one of Ottawa's best and more inappropriate improvisers joins us to talk about life and love. She's funny and charming and you'll love it.
Happy Spring! On this episode we are privileged to have improviser Colleen Wang join us. She provides possibly the best premise for a scene we've ever received and gives some advice to a woman who can't seem to jump through enough hoops for her dirtbag husband. Ryan takes the Spring weather as a cue to rage against people's behaviour on celebrity death announcements on instagram. Christina provides some completely unusable skincare advice and shows how not to act in front of your boss.
Ryan has his suspicions confirmed when he goes back FAR on Christina's facebook. She's the girl you thought she would be. Ryan likewise decides to talk about his edgy phase. Probably one of his best phases but was too short-lived. On today's episode Chelsea Fahey joins Scene Partners to tell us whether or not JP was a good student when she taught him improv. It's unclear. Remember rate and review Scene Partners so we can be sponsored by a mattress company.
Because this is Ryan's birthday episode, it was time for Christina to tell Ryan her favourite thing about him. She struggles and then fails mightily. Ryan complains about a very relatable part of air travel, while Christina plugs a movie about toilet paper as her "must watch" movie of the year. We were thrilled to host Angus MacDonald on this week's episode. Angus is one heck of a funny dude, an improv teacher and a podcaster. Thanks to Angus for helping us provide some of the most important relationship advice yet.
Ever wonder what it's like to be friends with Christina? It's high pressure, scary, and 24/7. In today's episode Ryan recalls his and Christina's first interaction (preview, it was awkward). Ryan also breaks down the Sex and the City feud and we interview Kennedy Ryan, a hilarious Ottawa based comedian, shaming shitty dude, one joke at a time.
Have you ever wondered how to burn your friend on instagram? Ryan has it figured it out. Christina also shares her roadblocks to getting a gym membership. This episode we welcome Greg Houston to join us and talk about life as a stand up and we offer relationship advice to a mother with a simple problem. So simple you'd question if she's ever heard of google. Don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to our podcast!
Do you watch Grace and Frankie? Do you love to cry? Cry like an Olympic montage? For the first time, we interview a new improviser to get her perspective on fears and joys of her new hobby. We also give perhaps the best relationship advice you’ve ever heard. It’s a doozy.
On our 10th episode, we bring on our first stand up comedian to talk about joke writing and how a different crowd impacts how you tell your jokes. Christina talks about one of her new favourite TV shows with an awful name and Ryan understands a mother in laws problems instantly.
How do you get revenge on co-workers? You know, really good revenge. Also, what leads to celebrity cheating? Ryan pitches his favourite British TV show and Christina tries to compete with Ryan for the love of our guest, Marshall Lloyd. She loses.
In an effort to start the New Year off right, Christina pressures Ryan to be more positive. Her new “positive” segment is an exercise in frustration. It’s also a chance for Christina to offer her first on-air relationship advice. Ryan seeks advice for talking to an ex.
On today's episode Ryan decides to vent some pretty pent up rage about happenings in his office. Christina also works through holding a grudge that her voice may not always be soothing. We also interview Jordan Moffat a character expert, and begin trying our own impressions.
It's a special thing when two friends voice their jealously of the others social activities. On this week's episode, Christina nerds out on a show about death and Ryan branches out. Also, who said stand-up was hard?
It's time for Ryan to teach Christina how to have a hot date. And whose responsibility is it to be a political comedian? Poor Jimmy Fallon receives their scorn.
Christina discovers that Netflix understands her better than she could ever imagine and Ryan needs a moment to vent about the Bachelor. There is also this moment where they both realize they are aging rapidly and it's kinda sad. But also funny.
Christina finally talks about her experience flirting with nice Christian boys and Ryan finds out how pretentious he can be while ordering a drink. This episode features Kristine Shadid.
This week Christina and Ryan ask where did all the good rom coms go and whether a show can change after being called out as offensive. This episode features Matt Barrow as special guest.
Ryan and Christina talk about the balance between their 9-5 career and living their comedy lives. Christina listens to Ryan's idea for new stand up material and they dish on what makes a show funny...
