And after weeks of YFTers begging, Brandi FINALLY started Off Campus! The excitement continues as Wells shares that he got to film his golf show with the legendary Luke Wilson, where he discovers Luke's favorite Wes Anderson movie (not the one you'd expect) but somehow forgets to ask about The Family Stone. A devastating fumble. Meanwhile, Brandi spends her week h anging with all the dogs at Wags & Walks and accidentally spills the tea on a secret Cyrus family pet (and it's not the tortoise or the ducks!). We're kicking off Directorial Debuts Month with the film that introduced the world to one of cinema's most recognizable filmmakers: Wes Anderson's Bottle Rocket.Long before the elaborate production design, meticulous symmetry, and colorful ensembles, Anderson's debut showcased the wit, heart, and offbeat characters that would define his career. Featuring early performances from Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson, Bottle Rocket follows a group of lovable misfits whose dreams of criminal success far exceed their actual abilities. We discuss the film's humble beginnings, its initial reception, and how it planted the seeds for one of the most unique filmographies in modern cinema. Looking back nearly three decades later, does Bottle Rocket feel like a rough draft of the Wes Anderson we know today, or is it something entirely its own?Funny, charming, and endlessly endearing—this is where a cinematic journey began.#WatchTowerFilmPodcast #DirectorDebutsMonth #BottleRocket #WesAnderson #OwenWilson #LukeWilson #FilmPodcast #CinemaHistory #DirectorialDebut #CinephileTalk

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of many amazing films from the year 2001. In this episode, we go back in time to revisit some of our favorite episodes and discuss the ensemble casts from 2001. - We start by revisiting our episode in which we honored the late, great David Lynch. We explored the mind-bending, pulse-pounding thriller Mulholland Drive. - Second, we explored the early work of Wes Anderson in The Royal Tenenbaums, which features an all-star cast including Gene Hackman, Angelica Houston, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Danny Glover, Gwenyth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, and Bill Murray. - We can't discuss great ensemble casts without honoring the work of Robert Altman. His 2001 film Gosford Park was his last - and he went out with another modern classic. Have you seen these films? What'd you think? Court is in session on this 2001 Reese Witherspoon star vehicle, based on the book by Amanda Brown, who channeled her own real-life experiences as a blonde Stanford law student into a book that sparked a studio bidding war. Reese Witherspoon faced her own struggles landing the lead role after being typecast as Tracy Flick from Election. However, with her turn as Elle Woods, a fashion-forward Harvard Law student who proves that beauty and brains can go together, Reese Witherspoon found a breakout role and theatergoers found an instant classic. It's not just Reese Witherspoon; also with her are Luke Wilson, Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Ali Larter, Holland Taylor, and Victor Garber. Opening with just a $20 million first weekend, the film directed by Robert Luketic went on to earn $142 million at the global box office as a sleeper hit. This strong precedent has led to sequel, a Broadway musical, a reality TV show about casting the musical, a direct-to-video spin-off, and now there's an Amazon prequel series, Elle, set to debut in July. Ever the arbiters of justice and good taste, our hosts will now sit in judgement of the age-old adage: blondes have more fun. It may not be fair, it may not be easy, but it is Legally Blonde! Season 8 heads into early-2000s chaos as Dangerous Dave revisits the cult comedy Old School, a film that perfectly captured the outrageous, quote-heavy comedy era of the early 2000s. With its mix of wild fraternity antics and strangely heartfelt moments about growing older, the movie became one of the defining comedies of its generation. We rewind to 2003 in What Happened Way Back When, exploring the cultural backdrop surrounding the film — from indie music breakthroughs and overlooked movies to television shows that helped shape the early-internet entertainment era. Retro Headlines from both the UK and the US reveal how technology, reality TV, gaming, and DVD culture were rapidly changing how people consumed entertainment. In the Dangerous Deep Dive, Dave explores the full story behind Old School — from its development and director Todd Phillips' vision to the unforgettable performances of Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell as the legendary Frank “The Tank.” The episode includes a detailed plot breakdown, the creation of the film's most iconic moments, and why audiences embraced its rebellious, party-fueled humour. Dave also looks at how the movie helped kick-start the “Frat Pack” comedy era and why fans still quote it two decades later.Elsewhere in the episode:

Show NotesWe welcome Dr Lucas Wilson (also known as Luke), he's an academic and has both studied and experienced the practice of Conversion Therapy. The idea behind such therapy is that sexual orientation and/or gender identity is a mental disorder which can be fixed, usually by God, with the help of a programme, therapist, exorcist, boot camp, deliverer or some such. Luke has recently edited a book containing a set of personal stories and vignettes of experiencing such ‘therapy'. It is shocking, harrowing, sometimes comic and wonderfully written by each contributor. We discuss the practice from the point of view of a historian, as well as a former conservative Christian and now a human with a strong moral compass. Is Conversion Therapy a category of genocide? It's time to flip through another vintage gem of a magazine! This week, we're revisiting Drew Barrymore's Us magazine cover story from November 1998. Written by Johanna Schneller, the charming feature captures Drew in her late-'90s glow—living in a solar-powered treehouse, running Flower Films from its colorful offices, and playfully declaring she never wants to be “stinky-poo-poo girl.” The piece is sprinkled with sweet quotes from friends and collaborators like Nancy Juvonen, Courtney Love, and Luke Wilson, plus lists of Drew's loves and hates. Rounding it all out are adorable beachside photos by Marc Baptiste, with hair and makeup by her longtime partner-in-glam, Jillian Fink Dempsey.Join our Patreon!Visit us on the web:@howdoyoudrewpod / howdoyoudrew.com@drewseum / thedrewseum.com

I adore this space we've created and have a hunch it'll come back in some way, shape or form down the road. Thank you for being a part of it. And until then, cheers to an entire library of More with Nikki Dutton episodes that feature compelling conversations with some of the most incredible people on the planet – plus a lot of life lived together since October 2020. This episode is a collab with one of my favorite friends, Taylor Carlier, founder of The Already Collective. We walk through some of the miraculous moments in life so far, the highs and lows of ministry and how community carried me through some of my toughest moments – all against the backdrop of the already, not yet aspect of the Kingdom of God.thealreadyco.com@thealreadyco on InstagramThe Already Collective PodcastPARTNERSHIPSBranch Basics all-natural cleaning products are human-safe, non-toxic, as well as free of fragrance, hormone disruptors, and harmful preservatives.
