What do Xmas Jammies, ADHD, and The Amazing Race have in common?   The Holderness Family!   Penn and Kim Holderness have created viral videos with ... billions of views.   They entered Season 33 of The Amazing Race ... and won.   They wrote one of my favourite books ... 'ADHD is Awesome'.   Penn and Kim started their careers in broadcasting but have old ditched that to find a massive 8 million person following as creators of hilarious yet educational videos on topics as wide-ranging as wearing masks during COVID, the 5 stages of pickleball, and, of course, losing your phone.   They host the popular Holderness Family podcast and their book 'ADHD Is Awesome' helped me realize I have ADHD. (Have you left your keys in the fridge before, too?)   In this special couples episode of 3 Books my beautiful wife Leslie joins me to talk with Penn and Kim Holderness about better names for ADHD, the secrets of making great comedy, the benefits of turning 40, premarital counseling tips, Shel Silverstein's best poems, why the world need introverts, and, of course, The Holderness Family's 3 ... no wait, 6! ... most formative books...   Let's flip the page to Chapter 151 now...

What she finds is more shocking than she could have imagined—a web of family secrets and lies that challenges everything she thought she knew. After clues lead her to Italy, Sofia reconnects with her estranged mother, Ella, who reveals a hidden past of trauma and deceit. When they discover Aidan's ties to The Brotherhood, an elusive, powerful society that operates in the shadows of world affairs, Sofia and Ella become ensnared in a deadly conspiracy. Trapped in ancient catacombs beneath the Roman countryside, they must confront their mysterious captors and fight for their lives. We often focus on the fear of running out of money in retirement—but what if the bigger risk is running out of health before you can enjoy it? After watching The Amazing Race, I was reminded of a client story we hear all too often: years of diligent saving, only to be sidelined by health issues just before retirement begins. At Root, we've seen clients retire with more than enough—only to realize the extra working years came at the expense of their physical well-being. One client had $3 million saved but told us she would've been happier (and healthier) retiring with $2.2 million if it meant enjoying her travel plans pain-free.That's why we encourage thinking about your money in terms of “movement speeds”:Walking dollars: short-term cash for 1–3 yearsJogging dollars: mid-term goals for 3–7 yearsSprinting dollars: long-term investments for 10+ yearsThis framework helps you balance living well today with planning wisely for tomorrow. Eric interviews Myke Clarkson, a producer who has successfully pitched a new shark competition series to Netflix titled "All the Sharks," set to release on July 4th. He explains the show's unique "Amazing Race" meets "Pokemon" format, where teams document and photograph various shark species for points to win money for charity. Clarkson highlights the challenges of filming across six countries with a large crew and emphasizes the show's goal to shift public perception of sharks from scary to exciting, promoting conservation and accidental learning. He also briefly discusses his book on aquatic snakes, which supports a conservation grant, and encourages viewers to watch and share the Netflix series to ensure future seasons and more wildlife-positive programming. Key Takeaways: Actively support the content you enjoy by watching it multiple times and sharing it to encourage more programming of that kind. If you've been considering it, take the leap into scuba diving or dust off your old gear to reconnect with the underwater world. Champion wildlife conservation by supporting media that celebrates animals and promotes understanding rather than fear. Be open to "accidental education" where learning is integrated seamlessly into engaging activities or entertainment. In this episode, we sit down for a wide-ranging conversation that starts with reality TV and somehow ends up in the depths of human nature. We unpack why we're obsessed with shows like Survivor and Amazing Race, and what they reveal about competition, connection, and how people behave under pressure. We also get into the controversy around Aubrey Marcus and polyamory, diving into how society reacts to lifestyles that challenge the norm. From there, things get deeper. We explore whether humanity is really evolving or just repeating old patterns with fancier tools, and how our ideas of progress might be more fragile than we think. We touch on self-growth, childhood wounds, mental health, and even how exploring kinks can be part of personal healing. It's reflective, raw, and a little all over the place—in the best way. If you're listening to this episode, you know that running changes lives. If it's changed anyone's life, it's certainly done so for Terence Gerchberg, who used running to help dig him out of a deep pit of gambling addiction. Eventually, it brought him to where he is today as CEO of Back On My Feet, an organization that works with people experiencing homelessness or addiction, empowering them to achieve economic independence through running and community. We talk about his life from past until present (including his experience on the Amazing Race), how running has transformed his life, and how he's using it to change others.Learn more about Back On My Feet: https://backonmyfeet.org/
