Hi, I’m a covert narcissist in therapy. After I was diagnosed with my personality disorder and have accepted the facts, I wanted to learn more about it and found plenty of resources for Victims of Narcissistic abuse, but little to no resources for Covert Narcissists themselves. So I decided to use my insights and learnings to on the one hand give victims of narcissistic abuse an unfiltered view into my brain and maybe help them heal, but mostly to reach out to other Covert Narcissists who are trying to be less toxic.
In this episode I want to explain to you why my covert narcissism is somewhat of a super power and how it recently saved me from becoming friends with a narcissist!
Welcome to season 4 of the Covert Narcissist. What's new? Season 4 will have no script. None at all. This way, I'm trying to be even more authentic and honest. My goal is to give you an unfiltered view into my mind as a covert narcissist, hoping this will help victims of narcissistic abuse, but also to help other covert narcissists to be less toxic. In this first episode, I will talk about my experiences coming face to face with a narcissist, forced to spend several days with her. How do you think that went down? You're about to find out!
Wow, another year is coming to an end! Let me share some of the insights of who my audience is, but let me also look back and review your most popular episodes and see if anything has changed for me. Your most popular episodes of the Covert Narcissist were: “Am I the victim or the villain?”, “Plans”, “Jealousy and envy”, “birthdays”. THANK YOU SO MUCH for listening to this little project of mine. I am truly touched.
I'm a covert narcissist and working towards being a better person to myself and to others. I've created this podcast because after I was diagnosed with my personality disorder and have accepted the facts, I wanted to learn more about it. I've found dozens of books written by or for victims of narcissistic abuse, but have found almost no help for Covert Narcissists themselves. I understand why that is. Most narcissists will not acknowledge their narcissism or are willing to change. It's also my understanding that Covert Narcissism is a somewhat recent discovery, and experts are still trying to figure out how to effectively help people diagnosed with the personality disorder. So I decided to use my insights to on the one hand give victims of narcissistic abuse an unfiltered view into my brain and maybe help them heal, but mostly to reach out to other Covert Narcissists who are trying to be less toxic. Welcome back to the Covert Narcissist. Wow - Season 3! And I promised something special for this season. I've been going back and fourth about doing this, because I don't want to stir up Swifties and cause rage. Disclaimer: I am a massive Swiftie myself. I know all the songs by heart, I'm that person who searches for clues and easter eggs in Music Videos and public appearances and I will see her on tour. No one wants to hurt her reputation less than I do. But this is a Podcast about covert narcissism. And in her song anti-hero, a line caused my attention: “Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism?” We know that Taylor is a terrific songwriter and most of her songs are based on her personal experience. She also said in her Midnights Mayhem, and I quote here: “"We all hate things about ourselves, and it's all of those aspects of the things we dislike and like about ourselves that we have to come to terms with if we're going to be this person. So I like 'Anti-Hero' a lot because I think it's really honest." With that in mind, let's go down this rabbit hole. Let's assume Taylor Swift did not mean to call herself a Covert Narcissist for fun, but that she is indeed a Covert Narcissist. In Season 3, I want to dedicate each episode to an album by Taylor Swift, scanning her lyrics for covert narcissistic clues. I'm only using the original albums, no re-recordings or bonus tracks from deluxe versions etc. Of course all of this has to be taken with a grain of salt as with any piece of literature, things are open to interpretation and what I might see as a clue, holds to someone else a completely different meaning.

My last tool is somewhat related to the last episode. Learn to connect. The good news is: That's a skill, that can actually be trained and learned! As a covert narcissist, we of course know how to connect, but only if it serves us. We manipulate people to like us, usually people with a higher social status, be it because of their position, their looks, their charisma etc. But that's not a real connection. Using someone, manipulating them and being someone you're not around them, that's not connecting.

Today's tool is probably one of the hardest. No - THE hardest. Open Conversations. You see, us covert narcissists only have open conversations for 2 reasons. Reason 1 is to play the victim. We can talk for hours about how everything in our life is awful, overdramatizing every detail, looking for sympathy. The other reason is to get the other person to open up so we can learn about their weaknesses, which we can use against them later in life. For that purpose, we carefully curate what we want to reveal. When I say open conversations, I don't refer to any of those 2 conversations. Listen to the podcast to find out how open conversation can help you on your journey.
In Season 2 of the Covert Narcissist I want to try help other Covert Narcissists. I have created 5 episodes which will focus on my personal tools which have helped me ease the pain. These tools may not work for everyone and you certainly have to put in the effort. In this episode. I want to talk to you about journaling. Journaling in a way that helped me. Just as the last 2 episodes, journaling is a somewhat hyped topic. There's huge number of podcasts and self-help books on the topic of journaling. I've tried journaling, but it didn't quite help me the way I hoped. I found that journaling focuses a lot on gratitude. I wasn't ready for gratitude. I am sure that if you journal daily, sooner or later the feeling of gratitude will kick in, but I don't have the patience for that. So what am I doing instead? I've started a Covert Narcissist Journal. Listen to this episode to learn what that is.
In Season 2 of the Covert Narcissist, I want to let fellow Covert Narcissists in on tools that help me be a better person and less toxic. Being a Covert Narcissist is painful and exhausting. We're not only hurting others, but also constantly hurting ourselves. Episode 1 of this season focuses on mediation. Trying to calm the noise in my head and clear my mind helps me seperate fake scenarios from real emotions and thoughts.
In Season 2 of the Covert Narcissist, I want to let fellow Covert Narcissists in on tools that help me be a better person and less toxic. Being a Covert Narcissist is painful and exhausting. We're not only hurting others, but also constantly hurting ourselves. Episode 1 of this season focuses on structure. Planning my day helped me avoid disappointments and frustration. It helped me scheming and plotting less.
Wrapping up season 1, I finally talk about the traumatic events of 2021 that sent me on the journey to discover myself and my narcissistic personality disorder. This is a very hard episode for me and you can probably hear it in my voice and how I make a lot of mistakes. I had to do it in one take because otherwise, I wouldn't have done it.
This is the second to last episode of this season. In this episode, I will talk about how I form and maintain friendships and what role my Narcissism plays in this. For my last episode, I want to give my listeners the opportunity to ask me questions about my Narcissism, which I will truthfully answers to. Please submit your questions until May 10. You can submit them via E-Mail im.covert.narcissist@gmail.com or on tiktok or instagram. You'll find me @im.covert.narcissist
In todays episode we explore my social anxiety and what's really behind it. I'll tell you about my fragility and how my narcissism helps me cope.
In this episode I will give you 5 sentences I use A LOT. These sentences can easily unmask a narcissist.
In this episode I want to talk about careers. I've also only recently realized that my career path was not an accident, but fits right into my NPD, my narcissistic personality disorder. And maybe you know a narcissist with a similar career path. I wouldn't be surprised.
I'm a recovering alcoholic. This is by the way the first time I'm saying this out loud. My journey dealing with my Narcissism has also led me to deal with my alcoholism. Now I can say my Narcissism made me an alcoholic. Of course I'm not trying to blame a disorder for the choices I've made. And I'm not trying to play the victim. I'm trying to explain to you what has led me to the conclusion.
Today I want to talk about jealousy and envy. I believe both are fundamental human feelings, usually associated with fear of losing someone or something. I've heard that some people claim to not be jealous or envious AT ALL, but I fail to believe that. I think of myself as a moderately jealous and envious person. After all, it's their loss if they leave me for someone else. And envious? The hot bodies? Nah, don't want to have that. It's too much work. People should be envious and jealous of me! Boy, am I wrong. There's SO MUCH to unravel. Buckle up! I'm CRIPPLED with jealousy and envy, I just never realized it. Hi. I'm a covert narcissist. They say Narcissistic personality disorder is a lifelong mental health disorder and hard to treat, mainly because most Narcissist will not acknowledge their Narcissism and because even if they went to Therapy, there'll be a point where they'll start manipulating the therapist. My story is slightly different. After a traumatic event in 2021 I've done a lot of soul-searching, meditating and journaling. This helps me look back on all the times I felt hurt, reflect on it and realize that I was often times the one causing the pain. If you are a victim of narcissistic abuse, this podcast might either trigger you or help you understand. I'm not a therapist, this is purely my attempt to contribute to healing.
Today I want to talk about my third hardest topic: Revenge. As usual, I will first talk about this topic as my narcissist self and will later share with you my findings and realization. For some listeners out there, this might be hard to digest.
In this episode, I will talk about a big problem: all the plans I'm making and never finishing. And I will try to explain what is behind that.
In today's episode, I'm answering the very first question from a listener. Didn't expect this to happen this soon, but thank you so much! My TikTok and instagram is @im.covert.narcissist . The question is: “are you a victim or a villain?”. It's a question I've been winding my head around and In this episode I'm trying to shed some light on where I stand on this topic right now.
Hi. I'm a covert narcissist. They say Narcissistic personality disorder is a lifelong mental health disorder and hard to treat. After a traumatic event in 2021 I've done a lot of soul-searching, meditating and journaling. This helps me look back on all the times I felt hurt, reflect on it and realize that I was often times the one causing the pain. This is how it works: In each episode, I will first tell you of a situation as I would tell my friends - usually playing the victim. In the second half I will dive deep into what actually happened and why I was in the wrong after all. If you are a victim of narcissistic abuse, this podcast might either trigger you or help you understand. I'm not a therapist, this is purely my attempt to contribute to healing. In this episode I'll talk about birthdays. Why I thought my birthdays were altruistic, but actually we're all about me.
Welcome to the podcast. In this episode I will explain why I am doing all of this and give you a glimpse into what to expect
