Join Rob and Robn and get your geek on as we discuss movies, music, computers, gaming, tech toys and more.
This week, the boys discuss the iPhone 2.0 announcement and what it means for version 1 owners.
This week, the boys serve up a shorter show while discussing their latest UMF purchases. Robn scores a Genuine Scooter Company "Stella," while Rob goes cheap and picks up Delicious Library 2.0 and a CueCat USB barcode scanner. Rob vents about his local Best Buy's problems with having what he wants to buy in stock for immediate pickup.
Another Skype-cast this week as the guys are joined by Travis Quinnelly, Technical Editor at http://www.makeuseof.com. Travis shares his newfound love of the Mac after being a hardcore Windows guy for 15+ years. We wonder if Travis will complete his switch to the “dark side” by purchasing a 3G iPhone. Travis pimps his website and we get off onto a tangent regarding WordPress. The boys discuss Travis' newest purchase, a 32″ Sharp HDTV and point him towards AVS Forum for setup help. We milk just a tad more out of Grand Theft Auto IV and Rob and Robn declare that it's not all they were hoping for. Other topics this week include XBMC (The XBox Media Center) and using a Mac Mini for a HTPC.
This week, the boys continue to discuss their latest obsession, Grand Theft Auto IV. Robn gets hosed by Amazon again. Rob has a moral dilemma while playing GTA - should he be a purely evil jerk or should he be more of a nice guy? Rob goes on and on (and on, and on, and on...) about the eerie "living city" quality to Liberty City while Robn hopes that GTA IV will be his next immersive experience. Robn is finally able to break the GTA-dominated discussion with Echo Chrome for the PS3, but labels the PS3 a "disappointing gaming machine." Don't worry, 360 fanboys, they bash the Wii too. ;) Also discussed this week is Magic Pen and Toribash, a geeked-out fighter/animation combination. Background music for this episode consists of selected tracks from Nine Inch Nails' "Ghosts" project. Check out ghosts.nin.com for more information. All tracks released under a Creative Commons license.
This week, the guys discuss their anticipation for Grand Theft Auto IV, how a video game's value is measured, the new iMac's, Robn's Dad's Macbook Air, and more. The audio will be a little different this week, as the boys couldn't get together in person so they used Skype to record the audio giblets.
Things are a little different this week, format-wise. The guys are joined by Robn's brother, Brad. This week, they wax poetic about changin tastes in music, digital distribution vs. tangible products, iPod integration in cars, and more. Also, we have our very first voicemail. Listen for it at the end of the show.
The boys get a voicemail number, (206) 666-2837, and invite you to call. Garage Band acts all wonky and makes recording this episode difficult. Rob and the Missus head off to Stillwater to eat lunch and arrive in an orange hell. Both Robn and Rob receive a $50 refund on their purchases of HD-DVD players. The site gets a new member. Flickr adds video to its site this week. Rob dreams about a new camera and Robn finds an impressively-spec'd point-n-shoot that runs on AA batteries (Nikon Coolpix L18.) The guys get their Ghosts discs in the mail today and discuss what this project's success means for musical artists.
Rob gushes about his new car and road-tripping, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 for the XBox 360. Rob and Robn discuss the awesomeness that is co-op online gaming, RTS'ing on a console, the DigitalTV Converter Box vouchers (and a conspiracy rant from Rob.) Both of the guys rant on Twitter and how its relevance is lost on them, but dream about how to incorporate the mechanics of Twitter into other areas of life. We discuss user-created content and whether it matters or we're just all full of ourselves. Robn debuts his new geeky purchase, his Mr. Bento. Rob shares how he saved $1000 in one month and the boys discuss creative lunching. Brown bags be damned!
Mac-heavy discussions this week. Rob and Robn briefly discuss the Apple TV v2.0.1update, Mac OS X 10.5.3 being seeded to developers. There are 2 round table-ish discussions this week. Topic 1 relates to developers releasing software with known issues/bugs and patching it on release day. Topic 2 concerns Trent Reznor's Ghosts project and what it means for independent artists or mainstream artists who aren't under contract with a major label. All background tracks by Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails et al and are used by permission granted under a Creative Commons license.
Rob and Robn discuss the iPhone SDK, ZiPhone, and video games. Rob rants on overpriced audio cables, idiots on XBox Live, Twitter, and being hounded to pre-order games at Gamestop. Robn spoofs hip-hop with a parody “album release commercial”. Sipp E. Kupp in the hizzouse! We also discuss finding a good, online, gaming community in order to find a good group of people to game with.
