Alex (Lance Guest) dreams of big opportunities and a better life away from the trailer park he is currently living in. He's denied a loan to attend the university of his choice, and this bums him out – big time! He then spends his night dominating the high score and beating a Starfighter arcade game. His girlfriend, Maggie (Catherine Mary Stewart), is VERY impressed! Nice moves, Alex! Little did everyone know that this arcade machine was actually a recruiting tool to find the best starfighters for real Gunstar spaceships. The inventor of Starfighter, Centauri (Robert Preston), rolls up in a future-mobile and a robot/Beta to sweep Alex away to the cosmos. Alex teams up with a good-humored pilot, Grig (Dan O'Herlihy), and together they will save Rylos or die trying. RTS checks out all the amenities that the Star League has to offer. Their craft services are solid! Jeremy is not about “victory or death.” He takes the first space bus outta this joint. La-Mar unleashes the Death Blossom from the start! Pew Pew! Are you the chosen one? Do you need to get into a star fight? Probably! The galaxy needs you! 

Christina Hello, everyone, I'm Christina Darnell, the managing editor of MinistryWatch. Welcome to the MinistryWatch podcast. In today's extra episode, I talk with Warren Smith about some news items that are slightly (even significantly) outside of our normal charity and philanthropy “beat.” So, Warren, what's up first? Warren Last Friday, just days before the Southern Baptist Convention gathered for its annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, SBC megachurch Pastor Jack Graham said in a social media post that the SBC has never had a “systematic sexual abuse crisis” and described what prompted a 2021 independent investigation by Guidepost Solutions as a “reckless hoax.” Christina Speaking of reckless, given all the evidence for serious issues in the SBC, that seems a pretty reckless thing to say. Warren Agreed. I have met Jack Graham a few times, and he seemed like a normal guy. I clearly missed the signs. This statement is so dislocated from reality as to make my head swim. Christina The Houston Chronicle documented nearly 400 cases of sexual abuse in Texas alone. The Guidepost Report on the SBC found hundreds more. Warren Graham's view seems to be that the problem was not systematic and was instead a function of how large the SBC is (“a few bad apples”). Even if that was true (and I do not think it was), the failure to respond quickly and adequately to survivors was surely systematic, a product of the culture of the SBC. That said, the SBC has, in recent years, taken solid steps toward reform. I applaud the denomination for that. But Graham's comments are not helping. Christina While we're on the subject of the Southern Baptist Convention, the SBC has released new demographic information, and Ryan Burge has analyzed it. Warren Here's a passage from one of his recent weekly newsletters: “I've said this on many occasions, but the rise of the SBC from 1945 through 1990 will never ever be replicated again in the history of American religion.” The SBC peaked at $16.2 million in 2006. Today it has about 12.3 million. This 25 percent decline in a generation is due to a lot of factors, including a general secularization of culture. But to claim that the sex abuse scandals played no role strains credulity. Christina The Southern Baptist Convention is meeting this week, but the SBC is not the only thing in the news. Warren That's right. A new study is out from Communio and the Institute for Family Studies. Among the findings: “Children raised in homes where faith is discussed regularly are more than twice as likely to attend church and say religion is very important to them when they become adults.” The study is called Passing the Torch: How Faith Moves Across Generations, and it claims to be the “most comprehensive examination to date of how parents successfully pass on faith to the next generation.” The report also found that when both parents attend church weekly, 41 percent of children do the same in adulthood, compared to 29 percent when only one parent attends. Children who report a strong relationship with both parents are 97 percent more likely of believing in God as adults than those with weaker parental relationships. Christina We do not often cover the Catholic Church, but a story from our hometown of Charlotte caught your attention this week. Warren Prosecutors say a Catholic Charities employee in Charlotte embezzled and laundered money by using a business credit card. The damage was more than $13,000. Leah Stewart, age 46, was arrested in late April. She faces felony charges over the unauthorized credit card charges. We do not cover Catholic charities much, but this one was in my hometown, so I could not help but notice. Also, it gives me another opportunity to note that we can learn from this situation. There's so much news about people doing bad things, it's nice sometimes to catch people doing good things, especially when they happen to be friends. Christina And one of them is right here in Charlotte. Warren That would be Rod Culbertson. He has “graduated” to emeritus status at Reformed Theological Seminary here in Charlotte after a long and distinguished career as a pastor, campus minister with Reformed University Fellowship, and a longtime professor at RTS. “Emeritus” is what you call someone who has retired but who does not believe in retirement as a biblical category! Christina And who's the other one. Maria Montserrat Alvarado, the current president and COO of U.S.-based Catholic media giant EWTN News, will lead the Vatican's communication office, the Vatican announced Tuesday (June 2). Montse, as I know her, is not yet 40 years of age, and she will be the youngest person to lead a Vatican dicastery in recent memory and the first woman who is not a religious sister to be a Vatican prefect, a task historically reserved for cardinals. When I first met Montse, nearly 20 years ago, she was barely in her 20s and working for The Becket Fund, the religious liberty legal organization. We have reported on their work often here at MinistryWatch. It was clear even then she was a rising star. Indeed, in 2017 she became the Executive Director there. So, Montse and Rod, I will be praying for you both as you enter news seasons of life and ministry. Christina Warren, we need to wrap things up here. Any final thoughts before we go? There is a legend that there will be a great white ninja. When a ninja clan finds a child in a chest that has washed ashore, they raise him, Haru (Chris Farley), to become this legendary warrior. Unfortunately, Haru is as clumsy as can be and lacks the majority of skills (in most things). He does have a can-do attitude though. Haru is hired for a mission by Sally Jones (Nicollette Sheridan). Off to America he goes! Haru's Sensei (Soon-Tek Oh) sends his best student, Gobei (Robin Shou), to look after Haru and aid in the mission. Silliness and many broken things will follow. RTS definitely knows when something has been or not been made by ninjas. Jeremy trains with Joey (Chris Rock) and a chicken on the loose. La-Mar has “traveled many miles and now [has] come disguised as a pimp to help you.” Collin shows us his belt. The blackness is intense! It's “like the inside of a coffin on a moonlight night.” Don't be led by the short sword and connect to the plane of enlightenment. “Holy Shinto!”

In 1977, through a strange series of events, tough guy for hire, Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe), and PI Holland March (Ryan Gosling) team up to find a missing girl, Amelia (Margaret Qualley), and to unravel a mystery with a dead porn star. Somehow these two manage to get things done – most likely because Holland's daughter, Holly (Angourie Rice), is the most sensible amongst them. In the background there are fights, conspiracies, acts of government corruption, strange protests against the air, John Boy (Matt Bomer) is gun happy and on the loose and there are glamorous porn star parties in mansions. RTS avoids falling from balconies, rooftops, etc… Jeremy cracks open a nice cold Yoohoo. It puts a slight dance in his step. La-Mar makes sure his cookie jar is full of bullets. You never know. Collin learns that all cars drive themselves. Just let go. If things get out of control, grab the ankle gun in your dreams. 

A 5-year-old location-based game just 5x'd its downloads. There were no new creatives. No new geos. No marketing push. Die KI agiert teils unvorhersehbar oder starr, was in kritischen Momenten frustriert. Zudem ist das Tutorial viel zu kurz, um Neulinge angemessen auf die komplexen Mechaniken vorzubereiten. Collin starts putting the ruby everywhere and on everyone to see if it glows. Eventually, it does! See ya at the harem.

Anthony Minghella est un réalisateur fort sympathique qui vient de faire un carton avec son film précédent le Patient Anglais. En 1999, il revient sur le devant de la scène avec lʹadaptation du roman Monsieur Ripley de Patricia Highsmith publié en 1955. Déjà adapté en 1960 par René Clément, sous le titre Plein Soleil avec Alain Delon, lʹadaptation dʹAnthony Minghella est légèrement différente, moins noire et plus existentialiste peut-être. Mais son adaptation est remarquée autant que remarquable mettant en lumière à nouveau le roman indémodable de Patricia Highsmith. À lʹécran, des jeunes comédiennes et comédiens aussi talentueux que le titre du film : jʹai nommé Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Jude Law et Philip Seymour Hoffman. Lʹhistoire est celle de Tom Ripley qui par un concours de circonstance est envoyé en Italie pour aller rechercher un fils à papa noceur, cynique et millionnaire, Dickie, et le ramener sur le droit chemin, cʹest-à-dire en Amérique. Mais Dickie coule la belle vie en Italie, cette fameuse Dolce Vita que lʹon voit dans les films de Fellini et nʹentend pas rentrer au bercail. Et Ripley non plus dʹailleurs qui commence à beaucoup, beaucoup, beaucoup aimer la vie de Dickie au point de prendre sa place. Il y a lʹesprit de Scott Fitzgerald qui plane sur le film avec des jeunes gens trop beau, un peu trop riches, un peu ambivalent sexuellement. Minghella capture lʹItalie, la lumière, le jazz des années 50, mais également la noirceur dʹun homme prêt à tout pour être aimé, en quête de sa propre identité. Le talentueux Mr Ripley est un drame qui sʹinscrit dès le départ dans une gaité factice. Il nʹy a pas de rédemption, juste une noirceur qui engloutit tous les personnages. Aussi, L'atelier des médias diffuse des extraits choisis d'une table ronde que Steven Jambot a animée au festival Longueur d'ondes 2026 avec des représentants de Radio Canada, Radio France, la RTBF, la RTS, Arte Radio et RFI.  En ce début d'année 2026, l'association Les médias francophones publics (MFP) célèbre ses 10 ans d'existence. Ce réseau, qui regroupe 14 grands médias de service public français, belges, suisses et canadiens, rassemble près de 25 000 collaboratrices et collaborateurs, dont près de 6 000 journalistes. Très concrètement, de nombreux salariés de ces médias prennent part plusieurs fois par an à des commissions et groupes de travail qui se réunissent pour partager des outils, des stratégies, des retours d'expérience.  Le vendredi 30 avril, au festival Longueur d'ondes, à Brest, plusieurs membres de la commission Audio numérique des MFP ont participé à une table ronde. Cet épisode de L'atelier des médias en fait entendre des extraits choisis. Autour de la table se retrouvaient des représentants de Radio France, d'Arte Radio, de la RTBF, de la Radio-Télévision suisse, de Radio Canada et de RFI. Reprendre le contrôle de la diffusion Un des soucis majeurs identifié par les MFP est la fragmentation de l'audience et la captation de la valeur par les plateformes tierces. Comme l'explique Éric Poivre, secrétaire général des MFP, un des choix forts de plusieurs membres a été de réfléchir à des « stratégies de rapatriement vers nos environnements maîtrisés, nos plateformes propriétaires ». Radio France a déjà franchi le pas en lançant une application unique en 2018. Pour Erwann Gaucher, son directeur éditorial, l'objectif est clair : « On a envie d'une souveraineté éditoriale. On a envie de faire découvrir et on essaie d'éditorialiser, ce qui ne se passe pas sur les plateformes tierces ». Une stratégie payante, puisque 60 % des écoutes se font désormais sur l'application Radio France contre seulement 20 % il y a dix ans. Exclusivité contre hyper-distribution Au Canada, Radio Canada a opté pour une stratégie d'exclusivité via son application Ohdio. Jérôme Leclerc, premier directeur du service de l'audio numérique, souligne l'importance de « ramener chez nous la conversation avec nos auditoires ». Dans un autre esprit, Arte Radio privilégie une hyper-distribution raisonnée pour rester visible partout, tout en conservant une plus grande profondeur de catalogue sur ses site et application, explique Perrine Kervran. La RTBF et la RTS (Suisse) naviguent entre ces deux modèles avec une distribution sélective. Sandrine Pauwels (RTBF) revient sur l'échange et la diffusion croisée de contenus entre les médias francophones publics ; Camille Dupon-Lahitte (RTS) explique par ailleurs l'importance des écoutes publiques dans des festivals ou librairies pour « attraper un public qui n'a peut-être jamais écouté de podcast ». RFI, un cas à part Pour RFI, seul média international des MFP, la problématique diffère. Ainsi, dans certains pays du Sahel où les antennes FM, site web et applis de RFI sont bloqués, YouTube et les réseaux sociaux sont parfois le « seul contact » restant avec les auditeurs, rappelle Simon Decreuze, coordinateur de la production des podcasts de RFI.  Un algorithme de service public Les synergies entre membres des MFP peuvent aussi permettre d'inventer de nouveaux standards. Erwann Gaucher évoque la mise en place d'un « algorithme de service public » dont le but n'est pas la rétention infinie, mais la curiosité : « Est-ce qu'on a réussi à vous emmener à l'écoute de quelque chose que avec votre profil dont on se rend compte que vous n'aviez jamais écouté avant ? ».

RTS learns that Cobra doesn't like lousy shots, diseases, profanity in public or poor manners. Respect! La-Mar goes on many candy runs with Cobra's partner, Gonzales (Reni Santoni). We're going to get some Whatchamacallits and ZAGNUTs up in here. Collin starts constructing a little book of puns and snappy one-liners. Cobra pays him handsomely for this work. Do these baddies even have a plan? The answer to that is no. We'll see you all at the fire factory.
