Is Sony Ditching its PC Strategy For Valve's Steam Machine l The Game Awards GOTY Predictions Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/PSTrophyroom Discord: https://discord.gg/wPNp3kC BSYK: https://tinyurl.com/3e24bn7y Store: https://tinyurl.com/ktbsdw3s This week on The Trophy Room: A PlayStation Podcast hosts Teegan, Kyle, and Joe talk about... This week delivers one of the biggest news drops of the year across PlayStation, Xbox, and the wider gaming industry. We break down PlayStation's massive Black Friday 2025 deals, including $100 off PS5 consoles (Standard, Digital, and Pro), major discounts on PSVR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense controllers, Pulse headsets, and more. We also cover the huge PlayStation Plus sale, plus deep cuts on hundreds of digital PS5 and PS4 games—just in time for holiday shopping. But that's only the start. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is stumbling hard out of the gate. UK physical sales are down 61% compared to Black Ops 6, Steam concurrency is far below expectations, and Activision appears to be quietly hiding player-count data. We look at what's causing the drop—AI art controversy, campaign reception, franchise fatigue—and what it means for Call of Duty going forward. We also dive into the Game Awards 2025 nominations, where indies dominate the field. With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hades 2, and Hollow Knight: Silksong going head-to-head with Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, this year's GOTY race might be the most competitive ever. Meanwhile, an Xbox insider claims PlayStation is pulling back from PC releases, contradicting earlier reports of day-and-date launches. With Steam Machines, cross-buy rumors, and shifting exclusivity strategies across the industry, we break down what's real—and what's noise. Plus rapid-fire FLASH NEWS: – Mafia: The Old Country gets a major free update – PS5 Welcome Hub adds stats, seasonal backgrounds & new widgets – VatiVidya announces an official Elden Ring lore book – Twisted Metal renewed for Season 3 – A massive Ghost of Yōtei update arrives next week with New Game+, new vendors, new cosmetics, replayable content, stat tracking, armor upgrades, Photo Mode enhancements, accessibility options, and more If you love PlayStation, industry analysis, and real-time gaming news breakdowns, this episode is absolutely packed.

In episode 547 of 'Coffee with Butterscotch,' the brothers dig into Valve's new Steam Machine and how it stacks up against Xbox's push toward an “everywhere” platform. They explore why Steam slipping into the console space feels natural while Xbox showing up on PC and mobile still raises eyebrows, and what that says about each company's strategy. The discussion also touches on potential pricing for the Steam Machine and where it might land in the living-room battle for players' attention.Support How Many Dudes!Official Website: https://www.bscotch.net/games/how-many-dudesTrailer Teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgQM1SceEpISteam Wishlist: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3934270/How_Many_Dudes00:00 Cold Open00:25 Introduction and Welcome02:35 The Evolution of Valve's Hardware Strategy05:49 Design and Aesthetics of the Game Cube08:40 Comparing Steam and Xbox Strategies11:40 The Cultural Shift in Gaming Platforms14:37 Developer Experiences on Steam vs. Xbox17:36 The Future of Gaming Platforms25:10 Steam's Developer-Friendly Approach28:22 The Cost of Innovation35:26 Target Audience and Market Positioning42:12 The Future of Couch GamingTo stay up to date with all of our buttery goodness subscribe to the podcast on Apple podcasts (apple.co/1LxNEnk) or wherever you get your audio goodness. We're joined by JM Specht of the Devolver Forkcast and One Frog Games' Patrick Knisely this week to excitedly speculate on the suite of upcoming hardware from Valve. Between the Steam Controller, the Steam Machine, and the Steam Frame VR headset, there's a lot to cover in how it may shake up the console wars... particularly on the heels of recent remarks from Microsoft's Xbox management and their insistence that the next Xbox is akin to a premium PC. We also cover all the Nintendo and gaming news such as the recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie direct, leaked set photos and official stills from the Legend of Zelda live action movie and LEGO sets, The 2025 Game Awards nominees being released and much more. As always, we close with the games we've been playing. Step into late November with This Week in Horror History, the horror podcast that digs into the spooky anniversaries hiding between Thanksgiving and Christmas. In this episode, we dive into a full week of genre milestones for November 18–25, from cult slashers and gothic ghost stories to Stephen King adaptations, survival horror gaming, and a haunting cannibal romance. We kick things off at summer camp with Sleepaway Camp (1983), the infamous 1980s slasher movie whose shocking final twist made it a cult legend on VHS and a must-watch for every serious horror fan. Then we ride into the fog with Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999), a stylish gothic horror film packed with headless-horseman mayhem, Hammer Horror vibes, and one of Johnny Depp's most beloved spooky roles. From there, we lock the supermarket doors and let The Mist (2007) roll in. This Stephen King horror movie traps terrified townspeople in a grocery store surrounded by Lovecraftian monsters and religious hysteria, building to one of the bleakest endings in modern horror cinema. We also pick up a controller for Condemned: Criminal Origins (2005), a grim Xbox 360 survival horror game that turned a next-gen console launch into a nightmare of crime scenes, jump scares, and first-person brutality. Our Deep-Cut Spotlight sinks its teeth into Salem's Lot (1979), Tobe Hooper's terrifying Stephen King TV miniseriesthat made an entire generation afraid to look out their bedroom windows. We talk small-town dread, the iconic window-scratch scene, and how this vampire story helped shape everything from Fright Night to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Midnight Mass.Along the way, we roll through horror birthdays (including icons connected to The Silence of the Lambs, The Thing, and indie horror favorites), revisit the legacy of Universal's Frankenstein in a Then & Now segment, and close with a Weekly Recommendation: Luca Guadagnino's Bones and All (2022), a melancholic cannibal road movie that plays like a twisted, emotional Thanksgiving watch. If you love horror history, Stephen King adaptations, Tim Burton gothic horror, 80s slasher movies, Thanksgiving horror, and deep dives into cult classics, this episode is your cozy, creepy guide to late-November genre viewing.Subscribe to This Week in Horror History on the Weekly Spooky network so you never miss a horror anniversary, hidden gem, or nightmare from the vault.Sleepaway Camp (1983)Streaming: Currently streaming on Peacock and available via Prime Video (depending on region/packaging).Physical: Recent Blu-ray restorations from boutique horror labels are in print and easy to hunt down for collectors.Sleepy Hollow (1999)Digital: Available to rent or buy digitally on the usual suspects, including Prime Video and Apple TV.Physical: Long-standing Paramount Blu-ray and DVD releases are widely available. The Mist (2007)Streaming: Streaming on Peacock and Paramount+, often as part of their Stephen King / horror lineups.Physical: Blu-ray editions are easy to find, including releases that feature Frank Darabont's preferred black-and-white cut.Condemned: Criminal Origins (2005 – game)Digital: Recently delisted from major digital storefronts, so it's not a simple click-to-buy anymore.Physical / Legacy: Best found as a physical Xbox 360 disc or as remaining PC keys from reputable sellers that still activate on Steam; expect some tinkering on modern hardware.Salem's Lot (1979 miniseries)Streaming: Shows up on free-with-ads streamers like Tubi and on horror-centric services such as AMC+ and Shudder from time to time, though availability shifts.Physical / Digital: There are solid DVD and Blu-ray editions in circulation, and it's typically available to rent or buy digitally on major VOD platforms when it falls out of flat-rate streaming.Bones and All (2022)Digital: Available digitally on Prime Video.Streaming: Also popping up on cinephile-focused streamers such as The Criterion Channel and MUBI, making it easy to slot into a late-night double feature. This episode of This Week in Horror History is brought to you by Savorista Coffee. Ny konsoll? I 2026? For første gang siden Sega ga seg i konsollbransjen har vi en utfordrer på banen, og det er selveste kongene av PC gaming, Valve med sin STEAM MACHINE. Hva er det som skjer? Pluss: Topp 5 Half-Life spinoffs, Atelier Ryza-samlingen, Call of Duty Black Ops 7 og mer!
In a week full of news, Valve perhaps delivered the most shocking one with the announcement of a Steam controller, a VR headset, the Steam Frame, and the return of the Steam Machine. Can the new, more powerful, and proprietary versions of these devices finally spark a living room movement for PCs? Could this actually be in retail stores? And how much does this hurt Xbox being beaten to the space? The Game Awards 2025 Nominations are out, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 leads the way with 12 nominations, including for Game of the Year and both of the Indie GOTY awards as well. They are also nominated for Indie Game of the Year at the Indie Awards. So, is it really an indie? And what about the rest of the lineup? Were there some major snubs? Plus, Sean tried the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 campaign, and he was not happy with it being always online. Red Dead Redemption is finally appearing on current consoles, Pokemon Pokeopia gets a release date, but also a reveal that its a Game Key Card. Ubisoft canceled a Splinter Cell game, and more! The video game industry has had a turbulent few years. The pandemic made people play more and caused a small boom, which then subsided, resulting in wave after wave of massive layoffs. Microsoft, one of the major console manufacturers, is shifting its strategy for Xbox as the company shifts its focus to AI. And now, Electronic Arts, once a load-bearing publisher for the industry with brands like The Sims and Madden, is going private via a leveraged buyout in a deal involving Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and Jared Kushner. Video games are more popular than ever, but many of the biggest companies in the business seem like they are struggling to adapt and convert that popularity into stability and sustainability. To try and understand what the hell is going on, this week we have a conversation between Emanuel and Jason Schreier, who reports about video games for Bloomberg and one of the best journalists on this beat. Jason helps us unpack why Microsoft is now aiming for higher-than-average profit margins at Xbox and why the company is seemingly bowing out of the console business despite a massive acquisition spree. We also talk about what the EA deal tells us about other game publishers, and what all these problems tell us about changing player habits and the future of big budget video games. Xbox's big bet for bringing PCs to the living room has officially been undercut. This week, Valve announced three (!) different pieces of hardware. First, there is the Steam Machine, which serves as the strongest competitor to consoles. While still very much a PC, the Steam Machine packs a lot of punch for a small device and could be a force if priced well. Second, a brand new VR headset in the Steam Frame. Despite Meta having massive first-party support, Valve has decided to challenge a space that many of us thought was finished growing. Third, and finally, is a Steam Controller. It's horrendous looking and makes the Duke look ergonomic. How does Valve's aggressive hardware plans disrupt Xbox and does any lingering appeal for the PC in the living room by Xbox remain? The Dukes unite and dive straight in. Read transcriptDust off your cowabunga collection and prepare your fists for some serious turtle-powered mayhem, because this week on Play Comics we're diving shell-first into TMNT: Mutant Melee, the 2005 arena-based fighting bonanza that took the 2003 animated series and asked the most important question: what if we just got all the turtles, their friends, AND their enemies into one room and let them beat the absolute snot out of each other? Developed by Konami for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC, this isn't your typical one-on-one fighter—it's more like if Smash Bros and Power Stone had a shell-covered baby and that baby knew all of Splinter's teachings. Joining us for this body-slamming brawl is the incomparable Tommy Proffitt from Distant Echoes and Lee Carvallo's Podding Challenge, a podcast wizard who understands the intricate art of dissecting character-based chaos and canon coherence like few others can. Plus being able to bring his signature blend of gaming nostalgia and comedic precision to help us determine if this colorful chaos simulator managed to capture the spirit of its source material or if it swung its nunchucks at empty air. Together, we'll navigate the treacherous waters of Last Man Standing mode, contemplate why anyone thought having 22 playable characters was a good idea, and investigate whether the game's holiday-themed cosmetics (seriously—set the date to December 25th and watch the turtles rock Santa hats) are feature or bug. Learn such things as: What does it say about a game when its best feature might legitimately be the ability to unlock the original arcade game inside it? What's the difference between a party fighter and a fighting game that doesn't know what it wants to be? Can the 2003 cartoon's tone can survive being translated into “everyone fights everyone all the time? And so much more! As we roll into the end of 2025, Xbox feels like it's in the weirdest place it's ever been.In this episode of Game Pass or Pass, we sit down and talk through the massive shift Microsoft made at the start of October 2025: the full Xbox Game Pass revamp with new tiers (Essential, Premium, and Ultimate), the 50% price hike on Ultimate to $29.99/month, the jump in PC Game Pass pricing, and the confusing split between day-one releases on Ultimate versus “within a year” access on other tiers. We break down what each tier actually gets you now, how that compares to just a couple of years ago, and why the current structure feels so wild and hard to message to normal players. We also dig into the broader context that got Xbox here: another major round of layoffs, around 9,000 jobs across Microsoft with thousands tied to Xbox; the closure of The Initiative; and the cancellation of high-profile first-party projects like Perfect Dark and Everwild, plus heavy cuts at Turn 10 and other studios. We talk honestly about how all of that undercuts the “we care about creators” messaging, and how it collides with Microsoft's push toward a more PC-centric, multi-platform strategy where Xbox games show up on PlayStation, Switch, and Windows as services rather than true console exclusives. From there, we zoom out and look at where Game Pass sits going into 2026:Is Ultimate still worth the money after the price hikes and restructuring? PC Gamer+1Does the new tier setup actually give players “more choice,” or just more confusion? What does Game Pass look like in a world where Microsoft is clearly prioritizing Windows, cloud, and publishing on competing hardware over building a strong console identity? We close the episode by looking across the aisle at PlayStation's future hardware plans. Sony's CFO is now on record saying PS5 is only “in the middle of its journey,” while leaks and reporting continue to point toward a PlayStation 6 sometime in the later part of this decade and a Switch-style PS6 handheld that's designed around backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 titles. We talk about what a PS6 and PS6 handheld could mean for Xbox's next console, and whether Microsoft's current moves put them in a better place for that fight—or a weaker one. By the end of it, we're asking a simple question with a messy answer: Is Game Pass still the best deal in gaming, or is Microsoft burning a lot of goodwill right as the next generation starts to come into view?
