This is a podcast dedicated to finding free market solutions to society's problems. Join hosts Josh Taylor & Kevin McCreary as they seek peaceful alternatives to the "necessary evil" known as The State.
We answer some emails about public utilities. Is the internet one of them? What ARE public utilities anyway?
On this episode, we take a deep dive into The Minimum Wage. Does it hurt the very people it claims to help?
This week, we talk about the lack of innovation when it comes to road construction. We think the free market could do better! We also answer a question about adults with special needs and how a society can ensure that they are taken care of. Make sure you check out our friends' podcast: LibHERtarian
This week, we discuss a few different topics, including... How would a free society deal with the problem of digital piracy– a crime that feels pretty "victimless" when you commit it? What do we think about all of the "controversy" going on in the NFL right now? What do we think about the idea of toll roads?
This week on the show, we discuss some common arguments Christians make in favor of the idea of government. This was a really fun conversation, and we hope you all enjoy it! If you have thoughts or questions, feel free to email us: questions@buildtheroads.com
This week, we discuss your feedback from the last episode of our podcast. What happens when a child's parents are absentee? What about if a parent refuses medical treatment for their child because of religious reasons? When should The State step in?
Without government, who would take care of the children? This week, we ask the question, "at what point should someone step in to protect a child?" and things get really interesting! Hope you enjoy the episode.
How should a free market deal with the problem of white supremacists? This week, we discuss the sad events in Charlottesville and why we disagree with pretty much everybody.
This episode begins as a discussion about whether society can be "free" when the people in that society are stupid, but it somehow becomes about skyrocketing real estate prices in Hong Kong. Do not miss this one!
This week, we answer some listener questions about our Net Neutrality episode last week. Then we get into a discussion about the amusement ride accident at the Ohio State Fair in July. What happened and who is at fault?
Net Neutrality is a complicated subject and anyone who tells you that they full understand it is probably lying to you. In this episode, we do our best to break down Net Neutrality and explain it, and then we discuss whether or not we believe it is a good thing.
Let's talk about your questions concerning student loans, the minimum wage, "the lesser of two evils," and more! We will probably do full episodes on these topics at some point, but this was a fun conversation regardless.
According to a Harvard professor, Uber can't be fixed, and it's time to shut it down. But why? Uber proved a lot of the government regulations on taxi services are expensive and unnecessary. Because they bypassed them, they were able to provide cheaper transportation for millions of Americans. For this, the professor argues, they should be shut down. This episode is dedicated to the millions of people who have died while riding in an Uber. If only Uber had the proper commercial licensing, so many lives could have been saved... Questions/comments you want us to discuss on the show? Feel free to email us: questions@buildtheroads.com
We saw a Huffington Post article floating around called "I Don’t Know How To Explain To You That You Should Care About Other People". The article assumes there is only one way to help others. We disagree. So, we decided to pick it apart!
We got a little pushback from last week's episode about free speech, so we read through your emails on the topic.
Today we discuss the limits of free speech in light of recent news items, including the Kathy Griffin photo controversy, the Julius Caesar play in Central Park, and the congressional baseball shooting. At what point is "speech" no longer free?
This week, we read some emails we received in response to last week's episode about the idea of a Universal Basic Income. You can listen to the previous episode here: http://www.buildtheroads.com/episode/8 You can still enjoy this episode ever if you didn't hear last week's show, but it was a fun discussion, so if you have the time, you should check it out!
This week, we discuss the inevitability of a Universal Basic Income once robots steal all of our jobs. Show notes: http://www.buildtheroads.com/episode/8
Today, we read your emails in response to our last episode about the alleged immorality of having money. Before it's all said and done, we cover race, slavery, moral responsibility, and more! Show notes: http://www.buildtheroads.com/episode/7
You know those articles people share on Facebook, and they just comment "This." ...as if the article indisputably proves whatever the person wants to believe? This week, we refute an article entitled "It Is Basically Just Immoral to Be Rich" by A.Q. Smith. If you want to read the article before listening, you can find it here. We wanted to talk about this article because it represents a mindset that we have found is very prevalent in society these days. We try as best we can to set the record straight! If you have thoughts, questions, or concerns, about what we have to say, please email us and we will discuss on the next show! http://www.buildtheroads.com/contact Show notes: http://www.buildtheroads.com/episode/6
This week, we take a deep dive into the screwed up history of health care in the United States. Was Obamacare a necessary first step to fix Health Care in this country, or did it ruin a good thing? Turns out, the answer is more complicated than you'll hear on CNN or Fox News. Note: The first third of the show is dedicated to feedback we have received from previous episodes. The main discussion on health care starts at 45:46. We would love to hear your feedback on this episode! Email us here: http://www.buildtheroads.com/contact Show notes for this episode can be found here: http://www.buildtheroads.com/episode/5
Recently, I (Josh) released a video on YouTube discussing the idea of "YouTube Censorship", and it received quite a bit of backlash. On today's episode of WWBTR, we discuss some of the comments I received on that video, as well as the idea of censorship in general. Before that, though, we read a bunch of your emails about the last episode's discussion of the death penalty. Lots of really interesting thoughts! If you want to interact with the show, please contact us on our website: http://www.buildtheroads.com Show notes here: http://www.buildtheroads.com/episode/4
Without government, would the world become an environmental disaster? We discuss that question, as well as the death penalty, on this episode of the show! Questions, comments, & feedback: https://buildtheroads.com/contact/
Without police, wouldn't there just be chaos in the streets? We discuss some non-coercive potential solutions to the problem of law-enforcement. Click here to check out the show notes for this episode!
In the very first episode of WWBTR, we discuss our definition of the word "government," and we lay the foundation for what this show is all about!
