The software supply chain is now a strategic vulnerability, allowing compromised “trusted tools” to bypass legacy defenses and move directly into internal environments.Recent incidents demonstrate the scale of the risk. GitHub confirmed unauthorized access to roughly 3,800 repositories after a malicious VS Code extension compromised a developer device. Google Cloud infrastructure also exposed a critical “time-to-vulnerability” gap: deleted API keys remained active for an average of 16 minutes, and in some cases up to 23 minutes, despite appearing revoked in the UI. These delays create exploitable windows for autonomous systems to access AI services or sensitive data before responders can intervene.The Cloud Security Alliance warns of an emerging “agentic threat” driven by excessive privileges, weak configurations, prompt injection, poor accountability, and flaws in machine-to-machine interaction. We all love the convenience of our digital devices and connected services.  But what about our ever expanding pile of digital breadcrumbs we leave behind as we go about our day? These breadcrumbs can be swept up by private companies to learn quite about us and target us with specific goods and services.  They can also be collected by government agencies who might use this information for legitimate police work or in some instances, political repression.  So, many people are asking themselves, should I be doing more to protect my personal privacy and how should I go about this.    Tech evangelist and prolific author Guy Kawasaki had asked that same question about a year ago. But is a world without work really sustainable? History shows humans thrive on purpose, challenges, and productivity. AI may boost efficiency like past technologies—but that doesn't mean people are meant to sit back and do nothing.

Tech bros like to blabber about AI and the end of the world. But the more plausible catastrophe they'll unleash is severe inequality and economic distress. As anger and panic grows over the automation of labor, the technology industry is casting around for a new social license to operate. One vogueish idea is some form of Universal Basic Income, or UBI: a regular cash income paid to all, on an individual basis, without means test or work requirement. The most important experiment to date into how a basic income could work was funded by Sam Altman of OpenAI, the organization that developed ChatGPT. One thousand people in the US states of Illinois and Texas were given $1,000 a month obligation free between 2020 and 2023. But Altman's vision for how the new-look social assistance would work is deeply flawed. That's the verdict of Philippe Van Parijs, the celebrated philosopher and author of a landmark book on basic income (Harvard, 2017). Altman's recent proposals, where the public gets a share of a promised AI bonanza in exchange for innovation without limits, would fail to protect the public against the vicissitudes that a basic income is meant to address. In this live recording from the Flagey theater in Brussels, Philippe sets out the history and philosophy of an idea that has stirred thinkers and social-justice advocates for half a millennium, from 16th-century Flanders to 21st-century Silicon Valley.
