Lauren dives into the legends of terrifying Hawaiian monsters and deities, including the powerful shapeshifting Mo‘o, the pig-man demigod Kamapua‘a, and the protective (but sometimes vengeful) ancestral spirits known as ‘Aumakua. These stories are deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture and are not just myths to everyone. Then, Kenzie covers one of Hawaii's most heartbreaking and haunting true crime cases: the disappearance and murder of 6-year-old Peter Boy Kema. Family legacy means different things to different people. For some, it's a big part of who they are, with strong traditions and high expectations. For others, it's something they're still trying to figure out. But how do you build something new while honoring where you came from? In this episode, I have Leslie Lane, the founder and lead photographer of Studio 13. Photography runs in her family, and she's been able to take that legacy and shape it into something of her own. In our conversation, Leslie shares what it was like growing up in a photography family, how she found her own style, and what it means to her to carry that legacy forward while doing things her way. Tune in and learn more! --- Listen to the podcast here: What It Means to Carry Legacy Forward with Lesle Lane Welcome to Action's Antidotes, your antidote to the mindset that keeps you settling for less. Today, I want to talk to you all about a topic that we've yet to really cover in this particular podcast, and that is the idea of a family legacy. I know some people have a stronger family legacy than others. For some people, it really looms large and there's a lot of expectations, and, for others, it's maybe even lacking direction too much. But my guest today, Lesle Lane, is the founder and lead photographer of Studio 13 but she comes from a family that has a legacy of photography and she's been able to take their business and kind of move it in a direction that puts her own mark on it. --- Lesle, welcome to the program. Thank you so much for having me. It's such a pleasure. Definitely. So, tell us first about how photography is part of your family legacy. I sure will. So, my grandfather actually started the business. He came into the photographic industry because when he was an eighth grader, his father tried to kill him with a garden hoe and so he ran away from home. You've got the shocked look on your face. It's true. He ran away from home and they didn't have Child Protective Services and so he ended up getting in with traveling salespeople, nomadic people, that's what they did, and one of the things that they did was teach him how to be a photographer. And so he would go from town to town taking pictures and then going back several weeks later to deliver the pictures and, finally, came upon my grandmother, who he ended up marrying, though he was hired to shoot her engagement portrait so that was quite scandalous. And then they settled, started their portrait photography business in Columbus, Georgia. And then my mother and father divorced where we moved to Indiana together, she married my stepfather and then I took over his version of the photography studio, which was corporate and commercial work. It's just shocking to hear someone trying to kill their own son with a garden hoe because people will oftentimes joke about it and they're like, funny, like, “Oh, I could kill you,” or something like that, but like this was a literal attempt to end his own son's life. Yes, and, actually, I misspoke, it was a stepfather, but still, the man that was married to his mother, and it was during the Depression times, things were not good, there was no work, there was no money. It doesn't excuse it at all but he had no choice. And so my grandfather, he survived and ended up running a very successful business and dying a multimillionaire. He made something amazing of himself after leaving home in the eighth grade. That is a legacy. That is something you can grab on to. Great father, great grandfather, and I'm blessed to have known him. One of the things that I've done personally and I know a lot of other people have talked about recently and it gets a little bit spiritual sometimes is this idea of multigenerational patterns and how they affect anyone's life going forward. And so you have this family legacy of photography, which I definitely want to talk about as well as that's your business,

Today we're talking about the reality of parenting while disabled. My guest is Jessica Slice, the author of the new book Unfit Parent: A Disabled Mother Challenges an Inaccessible World. A writer, advocate, and disabled mother who challenges the way society defines “fit” parenting, Jessica's work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Disability Visibility. In this episode, Jessica opens up about the unique challenges disabled parents face, from the obstacles within the process of becoming parents to navigating a world that often feels inaccessible. We also talk about how disabled parents are often excluded from mainstream parenting conversations and why they face heightened scrutiny from Child Protective Services. Jessica shares her powerful perspective on creative adaptation — a mindset that empowers disabled parents to create a parenting approach that works for them, rather than trying to conform to systems that weren't built with their needs in mind. Whether you're a disabled parent, raising a disabled child, or just wanting to learn how to be a more informed and supportive ally, this episode is filled with Jessica's honest insights and practical wisdom that challenge outdated ideas of what makes a “good” parent. About Jessica Slice Jessica Slice is a disabled mom and author of Unfit Parent: A Disabled Mother Challenges an Inaccessible World. She is also the co-author of Dateable: Swiping Right, Hooking Up, and Settling Down and This is How We Play, as well as the forthcoming This is How We Talk and We Belong, which was co-authored with the late Judy Heumann. She has been published in Modern Love, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Alice Wong's bestselling Disability Visibility, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and more. She lives in Toronto with her family. Things you'll learn from this episode Why disabled parents are not often part of the mainstream parenting conversations What are the challenges that disabled parents face when they're starting the process of becoming parents Why disabled parents face more threats from Child Protective Services, and why demanding that someone parent without help can be considered discriminatory How being disabled prepares potential parents for the parenting journey What creative adaptation is and how it can give disabled parents the freedom to build their life from scratch How non-disabled parents can support the disabled parents in their communities Resources mentioned Unfit Parent: A Disabled Mother Challenges an Inaccessible World by Jessica Slice Jessica Slice's website Jessica Slice writes about disability, parenting, and poems Jessica on Instagram Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to be an Ally by Emily Ladau Emily Ladau on Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to be an Ally (Tilt Parenting Podcast) Learn more about your ad choices. It's Tuesday, April 22nd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Pope Francis, who affirmed homosexual ideology, has died Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed once for man to die, and after that the judgment.” The Roman Catholic Pope Francis died Monday of a stroke and heart failure, reports The Epoch Times. He was 88 years old. Francis was not shy to enter into international politics. The pope had recently stated that the Trump administration policies removing illegal immigrants would “end badly.” He had also approved of the Vatican policy allowing church blessings for homosexual couples living in unnatural relations one with another. And he made numerous comments publicly lauding those who advocate LGBT ideology. Francis will also be remembered for his signing over the installation of Catholic bishops in China to the Communist Government. The deal was first signed in 2018, and then renewed in 2020, 2022, and 2024. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo commented on the travesty, stating that “It's clear that the Sino-Vatican agreement has not shielded Catholics from the Party's depredations, to say nothing of the Party's horrific treatment of Christians.” King Charles references Islam in his “Easter message” Sadly, the King of England took opportunity in his “Easter message” to refer to Judaism and Islam, instead of representing the Christian faith, reports The Christian Post. Referring to Jesus, King Charles said, “The love He showed when He walked the Earth reflected the Jewish ethic of caring for the stranger and those in need, a deep human instinct echoed in Islam and other religious traditions, and in the hearts of all who seek the good of others.” Ostensibly, King Charles III is the head of the English Anglican Church. No wonder the Disciples of Christ tweeted, “King Charles is neglecting his role as Defender of the Faith.” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, an atheist, was a little more encouraging to Christians in his Easter message, referencing the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as “a story of hope, redemption and renewal.” He also referred sympathetically with “Christians facing hardship, persecution or conflict around the world who cannot celebrate freely.” Supreme Court: Can parents opt kids out of LGBT propaganda? The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments today from parents in Maryland concerning the public school ban on their opting out their kids on storybook readings on homosexual pride parades, gender transitions, and drag queens, reports USA Today. Mostly Muslim and Christian parents have wanted to opt their children out. Colorado set to punish parents for objecting to kid's gender transition The Colorado State House has approved what may be the worst bill in the nation. The current legislative wording is geared to criminalize parents for disagreeing with their children on gender identity, compel speech, and punish those who hold faith-based or scientific beliefs about sex and gender, reports The Gospel Coalition. Specifically, Colorado liberal legislators could punish a parent guilty of “deadnaming” which is using the transgender child's birth name or “misgendering” which is using pronouns that align with the child's actual biological sex. The legislators describe these actions as forms of “coercive control” which would be considered threatening or intimidating behaviors that courts could consider when determining child custody. Republican Rep. Chris Richardson spoke out against the bill. RICHARDSON: “This is not protecting children, it's weaponizing the courts against parents. This would allow a parent who may be navigating an incredibly complex and emotional issue with their child to lose custody for not affirming a gender identity they may not understand.” Last week, pastors gathered at the capital to protest the bill. Leaders included Pastors Matt Patrick of The Well Church in Boulder, Chris Goble of Ridgeline Community Church in Castle Rock, and Matt Johnson of BRAVE Church in Englewood. The bill is heading for the Democrat-dominated Colorado Senate for approval. Will pastors stand in the gap? Ezekial 22:30 reads of impending judgment: “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” Is Colorado the most anti-gun state? Colorado is also poised to become the most anti-gun state in America. Indeed, 12 bills restricting gun rights have already passed. The state legislature is considering a record 18 more anti-gun bills this season, which would further restrict gun rights, as monitored by the Rocky Mountain Gunowners Association. Family arrested for “kidnapping” own kids over vaccine issue A Massachusetts homeschool family has been arrested for “kidnapping” their own children. They are held on a $200,000 bond or $20,000 cash bail. The couple's five children have reportedly been taken into custody by Child Protective Services. The extreme response was allegedly sparked by the parents' informed decision to decline to vaccinate their healthy nine-month-old baby, on what they called “sincerely-held religious beliefs.” They had attempted an escape to Texas, where they were hunted down and arrested. Walgreens pays $350 million for prescription Walgreens has agreed to pay up to $350 million for allegedly filling unlawful opioid prescriptions, without taking the time to confirm that the prescriptions were lawful, reports Fox 4. The suit was filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration. This is in addition to paying $5.5 billion for a plethora of suits filed by local and state governments. Walgreens is on a path to bankruptcy, planning 1,200 store closures in the next few years. Drug overdose deaths have killed 1.25 million Americans since 1999 — more than the deaths caused by COVID-19. Dow and the Nasdaq composite dropped The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1,000 points, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 3.5% on a Bear Monday. The NASDAQ registered an 18% drop since the first of the year. Meanwhile, gold topped $3,400 per ounce —another record high. The gold-to-silver ratio reached 105-fold — an all-time high. Historically, the ratio has been 20 to 1. Pat Boone is back And finally, Pat Boone is back on the charts with another Adult Contemporary Hit. With a little help from Lee Greenwood, Vince Gill, Larry Gatlin, and Alabama, the singer released We Are One — with the hope the proceeds will fund clean water in Tanzania, Africa. Take a listen. BOONE: “One. I am one. Like no other human being, I am one.” GREENWOOD: “And in my life, there is a meaning. There is worth. There is a purpose like no other on this planet, I am one.” ALABAMA (RANDY OWEN AND TEDDY GENTRY): “One. We are one. When good people come together, we are one.” GREENWOOD: “And in our oneness, there is purpose, there is honor, there is courage, when we put our hearts together, we are one.” (African children singing) Half of Tanzania does not have clean drinking water. You can make a donation on the website www.OneForTanzania.org/give Remarkably, Pat Boone will be 91 in June. The singer set a new record for the longest span between songs on the adult contemporary chart -- 63 years, eight months, and three weeks. Boone has four children 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Psalm 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, April 22nd, in the year of our Lord 2025. Like him or not, perpeTraitors I knew deep in the Wash DC swamp feared Trump as far back as the mid-‘80s.Trump was feared because he openly and adamantly opposed selling out our Constitutional values of freedom and justice for all to a globalist slave society agenda- especially where MK Ultra mind control and child sex trafficking blackmail ops are involved.Knowledge is our defense against mind control, and awareness is key to stopping globalist funding mechanisms of drug and human trafficking across open borders. Could it be that Trump gained his knowledge due to proximity to perpeTraitors in his business circles, and that this same proximity fueled perpeTraitors' fear of Trump? After all, he could not be bought off- he had his own money; he could not be compromised, coerced, threatened, or blackmailed- he had his own security; above all he could not be mind controlled- he had knowledge that is our defense against mind control. While this does not crown Trump perfect in all things, it does empower him to stand against the globalist slave society agenda with vigilance, fortitude, and strength of spirit. This is why perpeTraitors I knew, including Bush, Clintons, and global leaders identified in TRANCE Formation of America, feared him. He threatened to disrupt their plan to mind control You.Trump's personal defense against control does not encompass everyone around him, especially in Wash DC. Even his closest confidents, Supreme Court Justices, and appointees may be vulnerable to coercion, manipulation, mind control, or even blackmail.Blackmail is a very real and present danger since it is how this New World Order globalist slave society agenda has progressed to this point. Epstein Island and Diddy Parties are only recent evidence of blackmail ops. This has been going on my whole life. I was used in blackmail ops since I was a little toddler.I was exposed to so many dirty government secrets that I was to be sacrificed at Bohemian Grove to prove to perpeTraitors in attendance that their secrets died with me.Fortunately for me, intelligence insider Mark Phillips rescued me from certain demise, took my daughter and me to safety, and handed me keys to my own mind for healing. Mark had been working the highest levels of intelligence mind sciences to preserve the sanctity of free thought when he saw how our country was being sold out to a global slave society agenda through mind control of the masses. When Mark saw little children being taken in and out of the White House, he decided to take action and lifted my daughter and me right out of the Wash DC human trafficking swamp in 1988.Think for a moment. Re-read “when Mark saw little children being taken in and out of the White House”. This means he was there and saw what was happening. Anyone could have taken a photo and erroneously grouped him in the complicit list.Likewise, I was at the “Diddy parties” of the day being passed around like a party favor. I was in the Virgin Islands, throughout the Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico being used in drug and human trafficking ops. There is photographic evidence. Under MK Ultra, I could not think to protect my daughter any more than I could think to protect myself. Each of us was manipulated by love and instinct to take abuse to protect the other, which never was effective as our hearts intended. My daughter and I were in the White House where cameras record everything. I held her hand as we walked through the Service Entrance/Serve us in trance. When my daughter was being further abused through corrupted Child Protective Services in the 90s, FBI agents testifying against her threatened me that they would release blackmail videos. I responded, “Please do. It will further prove my testimony.”See full article on Cathy's website here!

Today, Hunter spoke with former Public Defender and current Criminal Defense Lawyer Amy Parker about a shocking wrongful conviction case. Normally, Public Defenders find themselves working in opposition of Child Protective Services workers. So when a former CPS worker reached out to Amy, admit that an innocent man was incarcerated, Amy knew there was a serious injustice happening. Through her work, she was able to exonerate Mr. Ezquiel Apolo-Albino and stop his deportation, but how did he end up wrongfully convicted for molesting his children? Based on Amy's tireless work, it appears we know the answer. Michigan Doctor and Wife Accused of Locking 10-Year-Old in Closet for Months An Upper Peninsula doctor and his wife are facing child abuse charges after allegedly forcing their 10-year-old son with special needs to sleep in a locked closet for months, authorities said. Dr. Colin Irish, 57, and Carrie Irish, 49, of Marquette Township were arrested and charged with second-degree child abuse this week. Law enforcement officials allege the couple locked their son inside a modified closet for hours a day, deprived him of bedding, and forced him to clean up his own waste. The alleged abuse came to light after a school reported concerns to Child Protective Services, which then contacted the Marquette County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Greg Zyburt confirmed that all three minor children in the home were removed the same day, and the 10-year-old was taken to a hospital to be checked for possible frostbite before being placed with a foster family. Investigators say the closet had been modified with plastic sheet panels and linoleum flooring and was locked from the outside. There were no heating vents or windows, and the child was allegedly forced to sleep on the floor in only underwear, with no mattress, pillow, or blanket. “The child defecated and urinated in the closet multiple times and then was forced to clean it up,” said Detective Lt. Jason Hart, noting that a strong odor of cleaning solution was present when authorities inspected the area. Authorities did not disclose details about the child's specific special needs or the ages of the other two children but confirmed they were minors and male. Officials do not believe the other children were subjected to similar treatment. Colin and Carrie Irish were arrested and arraigned Tuesday, each facing a charge of second-degree child abuse. They posted bond and are scheduled for a probable cause hearing next week. As part of their release, they are prohibited from contacting their three children. Attempts to reach the couple for comment were unsuccessful. When contacted, their attorney's office declined to comment. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, with the possibility of additional charges. “No stone will remain unturned,” Hart said, calling it a “quite alarming” case. Sheriff Zyburt noted that child abuse cases are always tragic but said this case stood out due to the defendants' backgrounds. “A doctor takes an oath to help people,” he said. Dr. Colin Irish, an osteopathic doctor, had previously run a family medicine practice in Marquette. While his website appeared to be down, archived images reportedly showed him and his wife smiling with children, including a picture of them in a kiddie pool and another of him with a child in kitchen aprons. If convicted, the couple could face up to 10 years in prison. This case follows multiple child abuse cases in Michigan, including a Pontiac mother charged with first-degree child abuse for allegedly abandoning her three children to live in squalor for four years. #MichiganNews #ChildAbuse #JusticeForChildren #Marquette #CrimeReport #DoctorArrested #EndChildAbuse Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? History is an often misunderstood major within the academic community, one that should be discussed more. After all, the connections to the past can be helpful in deciding what to do moving forward. That's the reason why Jessica Pichardo chose History as her major, and why she began working in nonprofits and government sectors. After a decade in Child Protective Services, she moved into a higher-education degree in the education field, hoping to make a difference in the lives of Montclair students. With Armine Khudinyan as this episode's host, Pichardo discusses the passion of the Montclair students, how the Next Generation Service Corps Program changed her life, and how she truly believes that her students' success is her success. Mariska and I were overjoyed to have Team Maigler Hall of Famer DaMonique back on the show. She works for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services in helping to connect children and families with resources. This was a really enlightening conversation about the help DCFS can provide as opposed to the negative cliches that people think of when they hear about Child Protective Services.
It's not the most captivating livestream. Ash Trevino is on the phone with her boyfriend and we, the viewers, are forced to just listen to their seemingly mundane conversations. Out of nowhere, the 36 year old mom of two starts getting angry. She starts screaming - “He's innocent. I don't care what y'all say. He is innocent and y'all are going to see that. My comments are saying RIP to those who lost their lives...” Ash Trevino starts cackling. What is so funny? Is she laughing at the 2 teenage girls her new boyfriend killed? Or is she laughing at all the other victims her other boyfriends in prison have killed? Welcome to the world of Ash Trevino. Dubbed the “inmate hopper” and the “worst mom on TikTok.” The internet is collectively trying to get her accounts closed and are mass reporting her to Child Protective Services. In this episode, i speak about DOGE, and how for decades, both sides speak about cutting spending, but when it actually is implemented, how some scream NO! How, if DOGE started investigating Child Protective Services, how many people would scream NO!
In this episode Mariska and I cover some of the ethical challenges a therapist faces when deciding whether or not to report a case to DCFS. I review a situation a young therapist I am supervising shared with me.

World War II Movie Night returns to a ripe year for 1949's "Sands of Iwo Jima," a definitive U.S. Marines movie and starring vehicle for one John Wayne. This movie also features a very interesting connection to the war itself that may or may not merit celebration, which we'll get into... Send us a textBrittany is originally from a small town in Washington State. She is a 34 year old mother of six children and lives in Los Angeles California. She tested positive for drugs at her birth because her mother was actively using. As a result, she was taken away from her and placed in custody with her uncle and aunt. When she was one and a half years old Brittany was taken away from them by Child Protective Services. It was found out that besides being abused physically by both, she had been sexually abused by her uncle. At age of 2, she was adopted by the chief of police of the town and his wife. Brittany calls his adoptive father “my rock” because of the support he has given to her during all her life, despite of differences in opinions at times. When she was 11, her adoptive parents divorced and as it happens, it was a very traumatic for Brittany. To make it worse, she was blamed by her adoptive mother as the cause of the divorce. She stayed with her adoptive father for some time. Brittany comments that she had the tendency to hurt herself. Due to the duties of his adoptive father as a chief of police, there was nobody to look after Brittany during his long shifts. Brittany had to be placed in different foster homes. She was a rebel, at 12 years, she was placed in a treatment facility for difficult children; but she always found the way to run away from them. She escaped the treatment facility and being still a minor, she went to live with an 18-year-old guy. She was using drugs, having sex and doing all sort of things that a 15-year-old should not do. She was found by the police, and she was placed in a foster system, Brittany went to live to a foster home with thepastor of a church and his wife where she did not have time to misbehave, she was always at church. For one year she was with them, her foster parents did everything they could possibly do for her wellbeing, she wrote poetry and a diary to deal with her emotions. Brittany was diagnosed with a mental disability and addiction to substances because she was born from a drug addict mother. Then she was placed in an adult foster home where she thought she finally had found the family she was looking for; however, it did not last long, one week after she ran away and met a guy whom she was using drugs and having sex. At 19, she gave birth go her first daughter. She was diagnosed with HIV when she was on the 8th month of her third pregnancy. She was put immediately on a very effective treatment and reach viral suppression very quickly, and she was able to deliver a healthy baby boy. Now she has a family of four children living together, her children are negative, healthy strong and beautiful babies.Brittany practically has gone to hell and come back. She says that she is adherent to her HIV treatment because it represents well being for her kids and herself. She is in recovery from substance use and sober for 8 years now. She receives medical care at UCLA with Dr. De Ville. She is going to community college; her goal is to complete higher education and help children and teenagers to overcome their traumas. She is accomplishing what once she was told she was not going to be able to accomplish. Brittany's story is very intense and rough. It includes drug addiction, survival sex work, violence, rape, and sex trafficking. It also includes successes and accomplishments. It's a story of survival, recovery, and motherhood.Funding provided by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Ending the HIV Epidemic Grant and the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, This podcast is brought to you by the Los Angeles Family AIDS Network
[SEGMENT 1-1] Relieved I'm telling my audience this now, but I am out of the country. I literally had to record a week's worth of shows in advance to cover my show. And this is not bad news, because I needed to play catch up. And as you know, I'm not necessarily that big on trying to cover the hottest topics, because some times we need time to let news absorb. Anyway, it was a daunting task to achieve this, but my team and I did our best. Trump's election. I'm sure there will be more pertinent stories as things continue to break, but this trip is something we planned for our youngest son, and provides him an opportunity to see that America is a very different place than the rest of the world. Relieved Democrats Many are secretly happy Harris lost. They will never admit it, but it's true. What about you? Are you happy? Not for the win, but for what it means. What it forebodes? [SEGMENT 1-2] Lawfare for idiots We have so much to be thankful for. And as always I thank God and my friends who listen to the show. I'm honored to know many of you, and I hope I get the honor of getting to know more of you. Let's get to some things that I haven't discussed but think are relevant. Last week I covered how the media is in big trouble. They are, and it's their own fault. You've also heard me talk about how we need to use Leftist tactics against them, when necessary. What celebrity stays at a Hampton Inn? Rumors are that Leno is broke, and he has a gambling problem. Which would explain the bruises. He certainly lost a fight with gravity if he did fall. His face was lit up. Leno looked like he was the loser at a UFC fight. //The Wire//2200Z November 22, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: DETAILS EMERGE FOLLOWING RUSSIA'S MISSILE STRIKE IN UKRAINE. HURRICANE HELENE EFFORTS CONTINUE AS WINTER CONDITIONS SET IN.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Europe: Much debate continues regarding the exact type and variant of missile used by Russia in Ukraine. Both the United States and Russia have stated that the missile was an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM), and in a televised address, Vladimir Putin referred to the missile as the “Oreshnik” (probably in reference to the 9M729-Oreshnik IRBM, a new hypersonic missile with at least 6x MIRVs that was unveiled a couple of years ago). The true range of this missile system is unknown, but to be classified as an IRBM and not an ICBM, its maximum range is less than 3,400 miles (if the classification is accurate). The Pentagon did confirm that Russia communicated their intent to conduct this missile launch via back channels intended to de-escalate the potential for nuclear war. It is not clear as to if the United States in turn informed other NATO allies about this launch (who also possess nuclear weapons and might be concerned about an IRBM launch).-HomeFront-North Carolina: The situation regarding the Hurricane Helene recovery efforts remains desperate. Over the past few weeks, volunteer aid has continued to flow into the region to support the families that are without homes due to the flooding damage. Electricity and access to water have been re-established in most places, almost two months after the disaster first struck.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: While the details of Russia's missile launch do matter considerably, by focusing on the technical nature of the attack the larger point gets lost as the debate shifts into a game of semantics. The difference between an ICBM and an IRBM is unlikely to matter that much, as these all are capable of striking targets thousands of miles away with a nuclear payload. Arguing that the exact specific missile launched by Russia can't technically reach American territory is unlikely to bring about any sort of relief and misses the overall message of this act of strategic deterrence. As far as what comes next, the next play will likely come from the United States/NATO. Generally speaking, the United States could continue the escalations, or decide to let the situation simmer down for a while. Currently, very little sense of urgency or understanding has been conveyed by all defense officials officially involved in this matter; the atmospherics within the Pentagon are largely apathetic toward the significance of this event. In North Carolina, federal involvement in recovery efforts is challenging to describe. Federal disaster relief efforts do indeed continue and vary widely in their effectiveness. FEMA, for instance, has been quite ineffective at multiple levels of involvement throughout this entire crisis. Of the hundreds of manufactured homes that are earmarked for families in need, the latest reports indicate that very few have been delivered. As a reminder, winter conditions have set in throughout the region, greatly increasing the seriousness of the need for housing. Due to this winter weather, much controversy abounds regarding the activities of Child Protective Services throughout the region, who have reportedly involuntarily taken many children from their families under the guise of not wanting children to have to live in a tent in the winter. Many locals are concerned that the government has the logistics to take their children, but not provide the housing that is quite literally ready and waiting for distribution. Additionally, volunteers have been constructing and distributing pre-made tiny houses as a last ditch effort to get people some sort of shelter for the winter. However, local permitting and building inspection woes have reportedly complicated housing ef

A 14-year-old girl from Maine has been missing for over a month, having last been seen leaving her home in New Sweden and venturing into the nearby woods. Stefanie Damron was reported missing on September 24, a day after she was seen walking out of her house on West Road. The Maine State Police Department confirmed the timeline, emphasizing the mystery surrounding her disappearance, which has left her family and the local community in distress. Despite extensive search efforts involving the Maine State Police and the FBI's Child Abduction Rapid Response Team, a report released on October 23 indicated that Stefanie has not yet been located. Authorities have mobilized all available resources, including the state's Computer Crimes Unit, to assist in the search. The local community has rallied together, with many residents participating in search efforts, hoping to uncover any clues that might lead to the missing teenager. However, it has been noted that the Damron family has chosen not to engage in these community-led search initiatives. The circumstances surrounding the Damron family's move to New Sweden from Texas add another layer of complexity to this case. The family relocated after what was described as a troubling situation involving Child Protective Services. In a Facebook post from 2019, Stefanie's father, Christopher Dale Michael Damron, expressed a desire to escape painful memories associated with their past in Texas. This history includes a police incident where both parents were arrested for alleged intoxication while their children were left unattended in a vehicle. Following this, Stefanie's mother, Lisa Marie Damron, faced legal repercussions but ultimately received a lesser charge. In a post following her daughter's disappearance, Lisa Marie suggested that Stefanie had left home, further complicating the narrative surrounding her vanishing. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/locatingthelost/support

Send us a textDana is a 28-year-old white woman, born in San Clemente California, and currently resides in Los Angeles. She was diagnosed with HIV in 2018. Her biological mother suffered from substance abuse disorder and was unable to care for her. Dana was adopted by her uncle and aunt. She grew up in Hollywood Hills, an upper middle-class neighborhood. When she was a little girl, she was enrolled into sports, arts, photography, piano lessons, swimming, etc. Her adoptive parents were able to give her the best life possible to have a good outcome; however, she was a rebel. On her 18th birthday she was thrown out from her home. Due to circumstances related to her adoption, she did not have any sort of identification documents which caused her problems later in her life. She moved to San Juan Capistrano, a small city 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles, with her biological father who was a recovering addict. They did not get along well and she was expelled from this living situation. Dana came back to Los Angeles and went to live with the family of a friend from high school who was using drugs. Her friend would take her to “trap houses”, where illegal substances are sold. She ended up using substances and because of it, was kicked out again by the parents of her friend. She met the father of her baby in the environment of drugs. He also had substance abuse problems. They developed a special bond being homeless and united by drugs. She had her fist baby girl when she was 20 years old, but the baby was removed by Child Protective Services at the time of birth. The irreversible fact of losing her baby gave Dana the strength to seek drug rehabilitation. Dana learned of her HIV status in a very unusual way - she began hearing rumors from other people. By this time, she was already experiencing symptoms of the infection. Dana tells us that the manner she got infected with HIV is as odd as the way she learned she had it. Nobody in her circle of friends had HIV. She was not uncareful and she practiced safer sex. After being diagnosed with HIV she continued abusing substances for a year and a half, and shortly after realized that she needed to change her life. Dana wanted a sober man, someone to emotionally support her, to have a baby and build a family. Finding sober friends was a part of her recovery.Dana eventually found the man she was looking for, someone who helped her to stay sober. She planned to get pregnant, and the magical moment occurred. From that time, she became very proactive in staying sober and finding the right place for her recovery. Dana has not used since. As a majority of women would agree, one of the most special and unique ways to feel connected to their baby is to breastfeed. Under proper medical advice, Dana was able to accomplish it and not pass HIV to her baby. However, disclosing her HIV status was still challenging. Dana's intricate story is full of experiences with homelessness, substance abuse, and cruel rumors; but it is also full of accomplishments and successes. Her story stresses that the components which surround her life are not exclusive to certain races nor socioeconomic statuses. Dana was born in the rain, and she has withstood multiple storms in her life. Thanks to the willingness to change and to have the courage to achieve her goals, the sun shines for her now and shares it in our podcast today.Funding provided by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Ending the HIV Epidemic Grant and the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, Division of HIV and STD ProgramsThis podcast is brought to you by the Los Angeles Family AIDS Network

Listen in as she shares actionable insights and how to tap into your own potential for success! “I remember working with my realtor, and we went up to a property to look at it in person. And when I got there, it was people that were twice my age. I didn't see anyone else that was minority female. I was just like, oh my goodness, I was looking out the window, I cannot compete with these people, if they're looking at this house, there's no way I'm going to get it. I minimized my value based on because I didn't see anyone that was doing it, that reminded me of myself. So being able to share with people, and being able to be an example, I think that that's what I provide to, my students, and just giving them the confidence to know that this is possible. I can do it.“- Krystal Key takeaways: Mindset and Resilience: Krystal's positive mindset and resilience were essential in overcoming her challenging start in life and building a successful career in real estate. Determined to break this cycle, she graduated high school at 18 and went on to earn four college degrees—an Associate's, two Bachelor's, and a Master's—despite numerous obstacles. In her twenties, Krystal dedicated herself to empowering youth, working with Child Protective Services to teach life skills, and serving as a Program Coordinator for MHMR, supporting foster youth with mental health challenges. A Kentucky mother charged with murdering her two young sons, ages 6 and 9, by shooting them in the head at their home in November 2023 will argue at trial that she was legally insane at the time. Tiffanie Ann Katherine Lucas has been in custody in Bullitt County since November 8, when she was arrested and charged with the murders of her sons, Maurice “Peanut” Baker Jr. and Jayden Howard, at their Shepherdsville residence. On the day of the incident, Lucas is accused of firing four shots within 30 seconds before claiming that "it was an accident." She allegedly told authorities that she was "being manipulated through Facebook, through the internet or through Wi-Fi" into committing the act, raising ongoing questions about her mental state. According to Kentucky law, if a defendant intends to pursue an insanity defense, they must file a written notice at least 90 days before the trial. Prosecutors are then granted reasonable time to arrange for a psychological examination. Lucas's defense team has formally notified the court of their intention to use this defense while not challenging her competency to stand trial. The defense acknowledges that Lucas committed the shootings but contends that she is not criminally culpable because she was not legally sane at the time. Family members of the victims, however, dispute this claim. Michelle Rice, Baker's stepmother, told a local ABC affiliate that there is "no way the shooting was an accident" and that "it's not mental illness" to blame. She asserted that Lucas "knew what she did" and understood it was wrong. The case is scheduled for trial in December, eight days before Christmas. It remains unclear how the insanity defense might affect the potential for a plea deal. The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office reported that a neighboring couple found Lucas lying in their driveway on the morning of the incident. The man called 911 after discovering the tragic scene inside Lucas's home. Lucas had allegedly told the neighbors that her "kids were dying." Days after the incident, a detective testified that during questioning, Lucas remarked, "I'm in such a bad spot," claimed the shooting was an accident, said "I'm so stupid," and stated she "would never do anything like this unless someone manipulated me." The killings have left the community and the victims' family seeking answers. Bullitt County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Col. Alex Payne noted that Maurice and Jayden had different fathers, and it was later reported that Jayden's father died in 2019. Concerns about Lucas's ability to parent had been raised prior to the incident. JoDee Estes, a family friend, said, "I feel like our system failed them." She emphasized the importance of authorities listening when family members express concerns, adding, "The family is going to blame themselves for the rest of their lives for this, and they should not have to." Estes referred to reports that family members, including the victims' older brother, Durrell Howard, had contacted Child Protective Services about Lucas in recent years. A heartbroken Howard said, "I should have done more. If it came to me snatching the boys out of the house, I should have, and I will hold that on my back for the rest of my life. For both them boys." Harrison Tinsley, now has full custody of his 4-year-old son, Sawyer, after a long legal battle prompted by his ex-girlfriend's efforts to raise the boy nonbinary.“I know he's a boy,” says Tinsley. “He wants to be a boy. He adamantly expresses that. If you say anything to the contrary, he gets very upset, and it's just insane that people, any person, would push this ideology onto a child, as opposed to just [allowing them to] be happy with who they are.”After reaching a settlement granting Tinsley full physical custody of his son, the father said he felt like he was “watching a miracle.”In a state like California, which recently passed a bill allowing schools to keep knowledge from parents related to the gender transition of minors, it's easy to see why Tinsley views his victory as a “miracle.” “It definitely is a pretty wonderful feeling to fight for something so hard and to actually achieve it,” Tinsley says, adding, “I just want to help more people protect children. I want to protect more kids. I think it's the battle of our lifetime.” Due to an “incident,” which Tinsley did not describe in any detail, Child Protective Services in San Francisco got involved and “put politics aside and did what they felt was best for the child,” the father explains. Tinsley joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how his son is doing today and what message he would share with other parents facing similar situations. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast.
