Does the heaviness of life drag on you? How do you cope with those feelings and take a break? Brian and I (Josh) discuss this and the human need to sometimes switch modes to fully understand our life situations.
As a parent, what are we truly aiming for? What really is the goal of all this stuff we put into a bucket called “parenting?” And, at a deeper level, have I thought about how my own spiritual journey influences how my children live out their faith and find purpose for how they live their lives? Does this matter to me as I think about how I'm engaging the task of “parenting?”In this episode, I (Josh) talk about what I'm learning from my own spiritual journey right now. From this, I propose a developmental spiritual growth model for fathers and mothers that moves us from a journey of being self-focused (fear) to others-focused (joy).I have seen these three stages of spiritual development come to light through my own spiritual growth in the past few years and would love to share them with you to see if, and how, you might resonate with them. They are:Becoming (internal healing and growth).Present (external presence where others feel seen). In community (inviting others into our journey).Show Notes: Ladies, sign up for Tender & Fierce Group Coaching Cohort with Christi! Christi is back this week! Not only that, we have a new “studio” (check it out on Youtube). This week, Christi and I (Josh) sit down and talk about the lessons we've learned since God told us to “jump” last year and sell our house. The last six months have been a wild adventure. At first, we thought we'd be RV'ing the country. But, as God would have it, a different path was laid out before us. And on that path came lessons we may never have learned if we hadn't obeyed and jumped. In this episode, we talk about where we are now, why we pivoted, and the lessons we're learning.God uniquely walks with each of us. We hope this episode is an encouragement to you that not only is He indeed walking alongside your family, but that He delights in it! Sorry for the delay with this week's episode, I [Josh] had some pressing family matters that needed to be attended to, and that slowed down me getting this out to everyone, but here we are! And it's a good one, worth the wait for sure! This week Jay gets right into it! And this week he's talking about Hegel! Hegel thought that Christianity offered a philosophical insight that other religions did not—mostly due to the idea of a Divine Humiliation. What is Divine Humiliation? What is the difference between humility and humiliation? Can humiliation do anything for us? Help us in anyway? These are some of the issues Jay discusses this week. He also dives into the different ideas of Christian focus, weighing the idea of the Crucified Christ vs the idea of the Risen Christ. This opens up some very interesting avenues of thought—Does only focusing on the Risen Christ take away some of the essence of Christianity? What is the importance of Jesus' scars? What does it mean for the infinite to show itself to be finite? How can God's loss on the cross, God's willing to be divided and humiliated, and the idea of Jesus feeling forsaken help us in our lives and struggles and our will to keep driving forward? Does it help us relate to Jesus more? Jay and Hegel don't have all the answers—they might not even have most—but together they pose questions that really give us food for thought. Full serving, hefty portions of food for thought. Of course there is always some discomfort in these questions and ideas, but that is okay. It's okay to feel uncertain, or uncomfortable. That is all part of the journey. Let's try not to pull back from it, but dive into it and see what helps us. Find what gives us hope and strength in our lives. We can't get to that point if we're too scared to venture out of our comfort zone. This talk shows us it's okay to have questions and a desire to learn more. It's a good one! Jared brings the research and the FIRE in this episode, tackling the evergreen and ever-popular Mario Part series in as thorough detail as you'd expect from a Jared episode. I (Josh the Bard) personally love handing the controller over to Jared because he always knocks it out of the park and does something unique with it to boot. That being said, this is a doozy of an episode, so feel free to use timestamps if you feel inclined! In the first portion of the episode, we lengthily discuss topics like making friends and going through phases. Of course the upcoming school year, the occasional background bump, and the Souls franchise all make appearances as well! Enjoy the 59th Hall of Games!
Like so many of our talks recently, this one wasn't the one that was planned. But our original plans got derailed once again by a national tragedy. And that tragedy almost always seems to be another mass shooting in America. We are so sick of it. We're sick and we're heartbroken. We're in danger everywhere we go. Jay's talk this week is short. And it's raw. Because enough is enough! These shooters don't care about our politics, at all. They don't only kill liberals, or adults, or people of color. We're all equal in our danger. So when all of this is happening, how do we love our neighbor? How does that fit into this? If the book of James says that ‘faith without works is dead,' then where does only offering up thoughts and prayers fit in? Something more needs to be done. We need to choose people over religion. We need to love each other and not let religion get in the way. We need something, because this can't go on. This talk is raw and uncensored. Normally, I (Josh) take time to edit out any or the harsher words that might slip out in emotion or frustration. It didn't seem right with this one. Enough is enough. This talk was given on May 7, 2023 from Seattle, WA.www.facebook.com/revolutionchurchmnwww.revolutionchurch.com/donatewww.youtube.com/revolutionbroadcasting@jaybakker@revolution1994@revolution94 Hosted on Acast. No written intro can do this week's conversation with Ame Dyckman justice! If we style ourselves a celebratory and joyous (and educational) kidlit podcast (which we do), this episode maybe sets a new high-water mark for ear-to-ear energy and joy bubbles throughout (except for when I - Josh - have to interrupt with intros and book reviews in my NPR voice, of course), as well as actionable and inspirational insights! Join Brian and I (Josh) as we talk about experience and intuition. We both have some feelings about both of these topics and how the connect together to create enjoyment of an experience.
This is one of the most life-giving conversations we've ever had on the podcast! I mean, come on, we all coach our kids to say the words please, sorry, and thanks as three of their first words. Yet, it's crazy how easily we forget to use them as adults. But what if you could successfully reach your goals and strengthen your relationships with just these 3 magic words? Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author and pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC, wrote a new book called Please, Sorry, Thanks, and it's a book that's not only influencing our own lives, but it's one we're now reading to our kids! In this episode, I (Josh) talk with Pastor Mark about his new book and how to personalize your please, signature your sorry, and thumbprint your thanks. We talk about: Why it's important to lean on the side of simplicity over complexity with your words The perks of keeping a gratitude journal and normalizing conversations about what you're thankful for with your spouse and kids Practical ways to exercise your God given ability to imagine and dream big How to build empathy in your kids Show Notes: Watch this episode on YouTube Pre-order Please, Sorry, Thanks Learn more about MyKidsEQSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode I (Josh) regale you with a story of awe and wonder as I seek out to see a rocket launch into space . The story is full of adventure and happenstace and just a lot of fun. Listen and Enjoy!
So this series is a bit random. I (Josh) had to do some writing on Psalms. More specifically, I had to write 5 sermons on 5 psalms. I used this series to help "motivate" me to finish them. There is no real rhyme or reason as to why I selected these five psalms. They aren't connected in any meaningful way, but they are each really fun. In this first episode, Tessa and I chat about some of the background stuff of Psalms. the restoration project. 15 February 2022 www.restoresby.org

So this week Josh seems to be low energy. I can say this because I (Josh) am the one writing the descriptions. Sorry about that everyone i'll try to pick it up. We discuss the hurricane that came through the east coast and what impact that had for Josh and Vin. We discuss Auston's Grandma and her need for human contact. We talk about hiking and how pretty it can be. Then we talk about a move that starts off with a very explicit Hand Job. So basically just a regular week for the podcast. We play music from Warren G and Daveed Diggs and Rafeal Casal (again). What can I say? I love this album. Ok well thats enough of that. Have a great week and stay safe. It's a new show! Trip Hazard Presents....??? We have an idea, but we're not sure! If you're new, hello! Trip Hazard Presents is a collection of shows. Currently Noodlin' with Josh is an interview show, You Gotta See This is for movies, This New Show is for...well we're not sure yet. I (Josh*) offered $200 for a theme song (lmk if that's too low, it was the highest number I could think of at the time), this episode's hosts @CaitlinBurt and @JoshWeavr flip through cards of 'jokes' and try to make them better, Caitlin meets a fireman, Josh feels good about remembering people, Caitlin remembers she's 2 degrees from Kevin Bacon (HI KYLE GALLNER!), they play "How Many Clicks To Corn". CORALLLLL! CORRRRRALLLLLLLLLL! WHERE IS MY SON?!?!?!?!?!??! Oh, wrong show, sorry. We haven't quite jumped the shark as bad as The Walking Dead, hopefully. This show features the OG1 (Danny) and the NG2 (Cody & HoodrowThrillson). We are missing Josh and Chris for this one as both had prior engagements and/or obligations come up. Fear not, Josh will be back next week and Chris the following week after that. This podcast is a genuine keyboard enthusiant podcast. Lots of cool new stuff being discussed, including the featured GMK Coral keyset (what the cover photo wasn't a dead giveaway?). Have a listen and make sure to tune in next week for the OG2 where I (Josh) will definitely be putting the team on my back!

Michael talks with Josh Bouchard about his awesome Maple Syrup from Spring Harvest Maple Farm! Beara uses it for their Maple Wheat Ale and Mighty (Stong) Ale.Spring Harvest Maple Farm is a small, family operated maple syrup producer in Barrington, NH. The farm is operated by Josh and Lisa (husband and wife), and our two daughters, Isabella (official taste tester) Danielle (future taste tester), and Nic (up-and-coming Dad's helper) with significant help from our families to make this all work.I (Josh) went to Coe-Brown Northwood Academy for high school, and first learned about how maple syrup was made in their sugaring program. We tapped about 100 trees and made syrup in the school's sugarhouse. After I graduated from college, I wanted to make our own syrup, so I found some trees, and made a couple gallons of syrup outside on a concrete block arch. I can't say it was the finest syrup we made (a little smokey), but a lot of work went into making this little bit of syrup. Then in 2009, we decided to go "big time", converting a farm outbuilding into a sugarhouse, and we put out 300 taps on tubing to produce 80 gallons of syrup our first year. From there, we've been expanding ever since to meet the growing demand for our exceptional maple syrup and maple products. Now we put out over 1000 taps, and make more than 400 gallons of syrup per year.We are a mixture of old-time sugarmaking and modern technology. We still put out the old-fashioned buckets and collect sap from those, and we also collect sap via a tubing system in the woods that is connected to a vacuum pump and releaser. The vacuum pump helps the trees to produce more sap, especially on the marginal days. Before we run the sap through the our wood-fired evaporator, we filter it and run it through a reverse osmosis machine that removes 75% of the water from the sap. This process dramatically decreases the amount of wood we burn over the season. We then produce syrup on a 30" x 8' wood-fired evaporator which is fired from storm damage wood we collect from the surrounding area. See here for how we make our exceptional syrup from start to finish. In our short time, we've also won many awards for our syrup at local fairs, and in 2013, we got a first place ribbon for the best syrup in the State. A lot of hard work, and care, goes into making our high quality maple syrup. We are proud members of the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association. We participate, and meet the requirements of, the State's voluntary Seal of Quality program. This shows we meet the State's minimum requirements for food safety in the production of maple syrup.
With Father's Day approaching, we want to honor dads. In particular, we share stories from our own dads. In this episode, I (Josh) share about what I've learned about being a dad, from my dad. Adler has become a good friend of the show, a great friend in real life, so it was fun to have him on the show finally for an hour-long discussion about a bunch of interesting topics. We discuss how Adler handles running a YouTube channel while he's in college, how to write jokes, and more! Hope you all enjoy. Adler's YouTube Channel
This week, I (Josh) have a really fun conversation with Inner Circle member Melanie Ahern. She runs my very favorite YouTube channel, and on this episode, we discuss her inconsistent release schedule and how she's still been able to build an audience around her really unique content. We also discuss whether or not you should stick to one theme on your YouTube channel when you're starting out. Kevin should be back next week. Thanks everyone for sticking with us for a few weeks while he has been away! And an extra special thank you to Gret Glyer, Jordan Taylor, and Melanie Ahern for helping me keep the show going in Kevin's absence.
It's been six years to the day since we uploaded the first episode of Messy Mondays onto YouTube. Today on the show, I (Josh) have a conversation with my brother Jordan about how far the show has come, and what we think about the future of Blimey Cow. This episode contains a lot of stuff we haven't really talked about publicly outside of our Blimey Cow Patreon community, so we hope it all makes sense. Thanks so much for listening!
Today's episode is a continuation of last week's conversation for Dads. This week, however, we talk to Moms. But that doesn't leave husbands off the hook. Guys, it's imperative you join the conversation. Without your input, it's hard for your wife to know what motivates you to pursue her. To reemphasize, our conversation in this episode comes from our own crooked picture frame. Our story is not your story. My (Josh) needs may be different than those of other husbands. However, we hope this conversation is what you and your spouse need to talk deeper about your own relationship and how you can better support one another--especially when the going gets tough. Once again, based on a blog post I (Josh) wrote, we talk about the valuable lessons we continue to learn as it relates to connecting deeper in our marriage, particularly after kids. Let us hear from you. Join the conversation with us and share the lessons you are learning from your own picture frame. Today's episode is a conversation for Dads. Okay, so wives will appreciate it too. Peaking behind our own picture frame, we begin with a story about how we began to emotionally disconnect in our marriage after our kids entered the world (i.e. invaded our home). Don't get us wrong, we love our children dearly. But nothing challenged our marriage more than having two kids less than two years apart. Even more, it impacted Christi's identity. But in the moment, she was unable to put words to that. As I left for work each day, she stayed in between the four walls of our home. Eventually, as she describes it, she was on "the bottom rung of life." Based on a blog post I (Josh) wrote that continues to resonate with many, we talk about the valuable lesson we learned on connecting deeper in our marriage, after kids. This conversation is certainly not exhaustive, nor does it represent the feelings of every woman. However, we hope it opens the door for wives to voice what they really need, and for husbands to empathetically understand and offer support. Let us hear from you. Join the conversation with us and share the lessons you are learning from your own picture frame. 1 word: #snappypoos Grab a Roman Candle and blow up your best friend. The Boys talk 4th of July, or as this episode may soon be called: The Lost Episode 2. The author of Ruth begins the book with some "background" information—a famine, a move to a foreign land, death. We usually skip over this stuff to get to the "good stuff," namely, the "romance" between Ruth and Boaz. This week, we paused to give voice to Naomi's grief and bitterness in the midst of horrific loss. We believe that she models an important and (very) human emotion, one that should be discussed more in the Church. the restoration project. Joshua James. 11 June 2017. *In the introduction, I (Josh) made the claim that because most of us are unfamiliar with famine. We aren't an agrarian society, so we just go to the store to buy our goods. While that may be true, I failed to acknowledge the reality, even in our community, that many people know (all too well) about hunger. Let us not forget, and let us not be actionless.
Recently, I (Josh) released a video on YouTube discussing the idea of "YouTube Censorship", and it received quite a bit of backlash. On today's episode of WWBTR, we discuss some of the comments I received on that video, as well as the idea of censorship in general. Before that, though, we read a bunch of your emails about the last episode's discussion of the death penalty. Lots of really interesting thoughts! New year and a new episode. This week Adam and I (Josh) talk to Durham City mayor, Bill Bell. After 16 years in office, Mayor Bell is retiring at the end of 2017 and we were fortunate enough to sit down with him and discuss his legacy and his part in shifting the culture and makeup of Durham over the last 40 years in politics. We talk gentrification, his legacy, disappointments, and where he see Durham heading into the future. Shout out to Ms. Hattie Johnson, Durham city clerk, for scheduling our appointment with the mayor and being a gem of a person, as well as Hardworker for letting us use Born Homesick" as our theme song.
Activist and pastor Isaac Villages grabs the mic with Adam and I (Josh) to discuss Durham protests and his life growing up with immigrant parents. We talk a bit of theology, what happens when you disagree with your superiors over gay marriage, and how protests in Durham often involve gas-masked officer holding assault rifles as marchers sing hymns. Isaac S. Villegas is pastor of Chapel Hill Mennonite Fellowship in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is a member of the governing board of the North Carolina Council of Churches and has served on on the denominational board of Mennonite Church USA, as well as non-profit organizations, including School for Conversion and Open Table Ministries. He is the co-author of "Presence: Giving and Receiving God." He has a B.A. from Westmont College and an M.Div. from Duke Divinity School. A big thanks to Hardworker band for letting us use their songs "Homesick" and "Moriah." This will be our last episode for 2016. Keep a lookout for episode 12 in early January.
Summary: The show is back! I'm glad to announce new episodes are coming while I (Josh) talk about fighting resistance: that internal struggle we all have to do the things that matter to us. I share my personal struggle with starting the podcast and what the show is all about. The show is ended by challenging you to go out and fight the resistance and live a more intentional life yourself! Resources: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
Join Sye and I (Josh) as we discuss presuppositional apologetics.
Join Dr. Ryan McGraw and I (Josh) as we discuss the sovereignty of God from a Biblical perspective.
Written words are incapable of expressing the emotion I (Josh) am personally going through after a long weekend at RTX. Therefore I submit to you the following podcast wherein Justin, Brian, & I regale Brad (who couldn't attend) with tales of the Rooster Teeth Expo. These stories include anecdotes & commentary on Miles Luna, RWBY, The Guardians, Burnie Burns, Greg Miller of IGN, Matt Hullum, Monty Oum, Kathleen Zuelch, Geoff Ramsey, frelling PWNEE Studios (creators of Cloudberry Kingdom), and much, much more. Also, our thanks to Lucas Iosue (Hommsar on SoundCloud) for supplying our new, official theme song.
It's episode 91 of Constantly Calibrating, which means it's time for change to our usual format! We're now working with a far more structured system than before, and personally I (Josh) think it's outstanding! This week we discuss Marvel's Cinematic Universe being planned out til 2028 & news that Microsoft may pursue Xbox 360 emulation on the Xbox One. Finally, this week we're launching (planned) monthly debates on the podcast. This month's debate is about the morality of botting, powerleveling, and other potential cheating in online gaming. Drop us a comment if you have your own thoughts on the subject that you would like to share. Also, let us know what you think of the new format!
Holy geez I should be fired for how tardy this is. On this episode I (Josh) bring back a very special treat from my trip to Portland, Sarah laughs a whole lot, Daniel stares at the floor, and Chris decides to stay home. Also, since we don't have any, we'd like some reviews on iTunes. Even if it's not the five stars we actually desrve, just get some reviews up there. The first one to do so will get an honorable mention/thank you on the nest episode!
In today's Podcrapular Lite, Golfwidow gets on the case of a fan fiction writer for too much buildup and too little payoff, and also makes a joke at Josh & Andy's expense. If you've ever read fanfic, this is a PC Lite for you. It's funny... today, I (Josh) also recorded a PC Lite about fanfic. You'll hear that in a week or two.
