"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25 Today we talk with our good friend and classmate Al Thompson who made a huge career transition decision. After Al left the military he worked for the CIA and was on an upward trajectory within the organization. However, as he continued his upward progression he noticed that he was staying longer hours at work and was away from his family; he came to the realization that he needed a career change that would give him the opportunity to spend more time with his family and poor into the people that he can serve. Yes, there is chicken involved, but it's the people that drive him to serve and lead every day. To get in touch with Al Thompson go here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alan-thom... THE SMOKING TREES "Who Is The Villain?" The Adventure Continues... Burger Records (2018) LP/CD/CS OUT 10/19/2018: burgerrecords.11spot.com What started off in 2001 as a musical project between co-workers at a Tower Records in Los Angeles, slowly dwindled down to a duo in 2011. On November 27, 2012, after years of musical isolation from the industry, The Smoking Trees released their debut album, Acetates (Colour Tree Records), then signed to Ample Play Records the following month, and re-released “Acetates” to a bigger audience in May 2013. In February 2015, before the release of their critical acclaimed second LP, TST (Ample Play/Burger Records), L.A.AL aka Al Rivera left the duo down to the group’s founder, writer, and producer, Sir Psych (Martin Nuñez). After Al’s departure, Martin finished writing and recording their third release, The Archer and The Bull (Burger Records). Being that Sir Psych wrote, produced, and mixed all of The Smoking Trees music, Al’s departure didn’t hinder what he did best. The Adventure Continues for The Smoking Trees this November, with a new LP on Burger Records, to extend your Summer this Fall.

Conservation photography can take many forms and we will offer our definition, but more importantly, we will speak with noted outdoor photographer Art Wolfe about his definition of the term. After “Al’s Gearhead Pick of the Week,” we are joined by Mr. Wolfe for a segment in which we discuss how he produces beautiful images in the service of a greater cause. Wolfe is currently working on a project on African elephants and the critical need to safeguard their existence. From this topic, the conversation easily flows to the funding of expeditions through workshops and book deals to the work of other photographers promoting awareness on a global scale and photographers tackling local issues of concern to them. After a break, we are joined by David Brommer, director of OPTIC 2017- Outdoor, Photo/Video, Travel Imaging Conference, who will give us a preview of this year’s event, held June 4-7, in New York City. The theme of this year’s conference is conservation and the environment, so it is fitting we pair him with Art Wolfe; however, the photographers who present at OPTIC represent a wide range of styles and concerns, and the topics discussed range from the aesthetic to the technical to the practical. Brommer provides us with a sense of the breadth of this photographic talent, as well as the manufacturers who will attend and stock their booths with gear to play with.
