Annemieke Bosman praat met schrijver, theatermaker en presentator Wilfried de Jong over zijn nieuwe boek Schwung. In Schwung vertelt Wilfried de Jong aanstekelijke verhalen die swingen en wringen. De Italiaanse Claudia neemt met haar cassetterecorder lichaamsgeluiden op van nieuwsgierige toeristen, de dakloze Ravi speelt in de Rotterdamse metro iedere dag dezelfde blues, en de Tsjechische instrumentenbouwer Maria kiest de wonderlijkste materialen voor haar contrabassen. De Jong is een observator pur sang; hij geeft zijn ogen de kost en houdt zijn oren op de wind. Wilfried de Jong (1957) is schrijver, theatermaker en presentator. In 2000 debuteerde hij met de verhalenbundel Aal, daarna volgden De linkerbil van Bettini, De man en zijn fiets, Kop in de wind (Sportboek van het Jaar 2013) en Zweefduik. In 2020 verscheen de succesvolle bundeling De man en zijn wielerverhalen. Onlangs vierde hij de literatuur in het geliefde tv-programma Brommer op zee.

Wilfried de Jong is schrijver, presentator en theatermaker.  De Jong presenteert Met het Oog op Morgen op NPO Radio 1. Eerder presenteerde hij Zomergasten, Brommer op Zee en Holland Sport. Als theatermaker is hij onderdeel van duo Waardenburg en De Jong. Als schrijver publiceerde hij eerder De man en zijn wielerverhalen, Salto en Zweefduik. Voor de derde keer in drie jaar tijd verdwijnt er een boekenprogramma van de NPO. Na de VPRO-programma's Boeken en Mondo, keert ook Brommer op Zee in het nieuwe jaar niet terug. Wel zal Eus' boekenclub in het voorjaar weer te zien zijn, maar - zo luidt de kritiek in literaire kringen: in dat programma zou entertainment boven verdieping gaan en is er minder ruimte voor inhoud of onbekendere schrijvers. Geothermie is een ‘schat onder onze voeten’, aldus de International Geothermal Association (IGA), die de wereldwijde ontwikkeling van aardwarmte stimuleert en promoot. Dat er een ‘schat’ zit, is bekend. De vraag is vooral: hoe halen we die omhoog? In de aanloop naar de grote, vijfjaarlijkse geothermie-conferentie praat ik met Marit Brommer (Executive Director van IGA) over de ontwikkeling van geothermie.

Julie Brommer knew she would not be able to establish a sustainable community cat program from 200 miles away without finding other people dedicated to the mission. For the past year, Julie has been speaking with people to learn more about their interests and partnering with them to find “the right” volunteer activity. Julie hopes her grassroots efforts on Chincoteague could be the beginning of a blueprint to building a reliable network of animal advocates and needed resources in a community essentially bringing animal “rescue” to the place where it is most successful… the animals’ homes. Conservation photography can take many forms and we will offer our definition, but more importantly, we will speak with noted outdoor photographer Art Wolfe about his definition of the term.  After “Al’s Gearhead Pick of the Week,” we are joined by Mr. Wolfe for a segment in which we discuss how he produces beautiful images in the service of a greater cause. Wolfe is currently working on a project on African elephants and the critical need to safeguard their existence. From this topic, the conversation easily flows to the funding of expeditions through workshops and book deals to the work of other photographers promoting awareness on a global scale and photographers tackling local issues of concern to them. After a break, we are joined by David Brommer, director of OPTIC 2017- Outdoor, Photo/Video, Travel Imaging Conference, who will give us a preview of this year’s event, held June 4-7, in New York City. The theme of this year’s conference is conservation and the environment, so it is fitting we pair him with Art Wolfe; however, the photographers who present at OPTIC represent a wide range of styles and concerns, and the topics discussed range from the aesthetic to the technical to the practical. Brommer provides us with a sense of the breadth of this photographic talent, as well as the manufacturers who will attend and stock their booths with gear to play with. David George Brommer is a New York City based photographer specialized in alternative culture. In the mid-90′s David was the creative mind behind Suspect Photography, a studio-gallery acclaimed for exhibiting maverick and emerging photographers. David’s fascination with dark subject matter and the use of religious and mythological elements in his compositions resulted in an aesthetically unique body of work. He is well versed in techniques ranging from pixels to platinum and enjoys using a wide range of camera gear to obtain the final image. During the past two decades, his extensive oeuvre has been widely shown across the country in several solo and collective exhibitions. In recent years, David has become a sought-after speaker on matters of contemporary photography as well as technical teaching. Among others, David has taught seminars at the International Center of Photography, The Maine Media Workshops, and nationwide industry conventions. He wants to know if she should do a 20 mile long run (LSD) even if it will take her longer that 3 hours (she runs at a 15:00/mile pace). Matt says @ 00:54:57 I recently attempted a 100 mile run and had to drop out halfway because of quad cramping and blisters. I ran 50 miles in 8:36, had good energy during the race and had even splits for the two 25 mile loops. In fact I was in first place in the 100 and would have had third if I hadn't dropped out. Was it the lack of calories (I only had about 200 during the entire race)? When I tired to run faster, or when I had to step up on a rock, both quads would seize up for several minutes. This started during the last 10-15 miles of the run. I want to add that none of this would be possible if I wasn't keto adapted. ~ In my response, I talk about taurine.
