First call to prayer in Islam

"The ancient Hakim Mosque, located in the Isfahan province of Iran, was built in the 17th century on the ruins of an even older mosque. The relatively ordinary field recording made outside this mosque contrasts with the intricate beauty of its architecture. We are situated near a fountain, its bubbling flow audible as people chat nearby. As the recording progresses, a procession passes by, with chanting and the jingling of small bells in the background. "I was captivated by the heritage of the Hakim Mosque and the layers of history beneath it. It made me reflect on the many layers of architecture and culture that form the foundation of human civilization. Our structures and ideas are not new; they are merely one link in a long chain that stretches across countless generations. These ideas inspired my piece "Hakim" for the Sonic Heritage Project. The piece begins with a trumpet playing a melody reminiscent of the Adhan, the Muslim call to prayer. "As the melody repeats, subtle variations are introduced. More layers are added, ever-changing, yet still true to the original. I carefully divided and processed the field recording into contrasting layers, creating a foundational structure that weaves in and out of the listener's perception. Echoes of the past (represented by a stretched version of the recording) mingle with the modern soundscape of the sample. The Adhan is intentionally left incomplete, allowing space for the generations of culture yet to come." The virtues of the Adhan

The recording captures a scene where various everyday sounds are heard, including the call to prayer (Adhan) from a nearby mosque, footsteps of a dog in the house, barking dogs outside, chirping birds, and children playing in the background. The people involved could be the imam or muezzin calling for prayer, pedestrians going about their daily activities, stray dogs and children enjoying their time outdoors. This recording resonates with the theme of migration by portraying the multicultural and diverse environment often found in urban settings as well as Albania, a place where many people leave from to live abroad. The call to prayer, a quintessential sound in Islamic culture, is a typical sound mark in many places in Albania. As a person coming "back" to my parent's hometown, this sound feels very foreign to me, having grown up in Greece, but i remember always finding it fascinating in my childhood, visiting Albania. This relates to the background of Albanians migrating to other countries and some of the cultural effects to the next generations as well as other cultural influences towards Albania. Additionally, the mixture of sounds from various sources reflects the blending of cultures and backgrounds that occurs in areas shaped by migration. The sound captures the harmonious coexistence of different elements in a community perceived by a person shaped by migration, having "come back" in different forms. The call to prayer serves as a reminder of cultural and religious diversity, while the sounds of footsteps, dogs, birds, and children playing evoke the vitality and liveliness of the neighborhood. Despite language barriers and cultural differences, the everyday sounds create a sense of shared space and interconnectedness among residents. The recordist may experience a sense of curiosity, fascination, alienation, childhood memories and appreciation for the rich tapestry of sounds that make up the urban environment. The call to prayer may evoke feelings of respect or intrigue, regardless of the recordist's religious background or understanding of the language. The presence of everyday sounds like footsteps, dogs, birds, and children playing may elicit a sense of comfort, familiarity, and belonging, highlighting the mundane yet reassuring aspects of everyday life in a migrant community. Recorded in Tirana, Albania by Ili Os. Part of the Migration Sounds project, the world's first collection of the sounds of human migration. Beautiful Voice adhan
In Muslim countries, Prayer is publicly announced to the community—not by bells—but by an Islamic chant or call of Prayer known as Adhan in Arabic. Before we start our prayer, we make our Adhan and iqamah, the Islamic chant or call of prayer, which is given to call people if there will be other people joining you. If one is praying alone, there is no need to perform adthan or igama, but it's Sunnah.
"I've always been interested in Arabic chants and calls to prayers in Muslim religion. This is why I was drawn to this particular sound. "However, I wanted to be respectful of the religious aspect of the Adhan, and so I thought about finding a way to accompany the solemn moment of the call to prayer through the sounds I added to my piece, thus enhancing the beauty of the original chant. "I believe prayer to be both a collective and intimate moment, where one joins the divine through sound, and so I wanted to portray that in my piece, guiding the listener so that he can immerse in this moment, where everything is silent, except for the call to commune with a god we will never be able to fully comprehend." Call to prayer in Tuzla reimagined by Pelayo Del Villar.

﷽ In The Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Adhān is the first call to prayer. The Adhān is uttered in a loud, albeit sweet melodious, voice to announce to the faithful that it is time for the Obligatory Prayer and to invite them to offer the prayers. Those who perform Adhān are known as 'Muedhin.' The honour of being the first Muedhin goes to Bilal (ra), a black slave who converted to Islam. He had a very sweet, resonant and musical voice. He was appointed as Muedhin by the Prophet (saw). The appointment of a black slave as the first person to call Muslims for prayers, shows that in Islam all human beings are treated as equals. Rich or poor, black or white, short or tall - all are equal in the eyes of Allah. It is the piety of each individual that makes the difference. Adhan is recited in a loud voice by the Muezzin facing the direction of the Ka'ba in the following words, which are said in the order mentioned: "Allahu Akbar" - recited FOUR times. Meaning, "Allah is Most Great."(four times) "Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allah" - recited TWO times. Meaning, "I bear witness that there is none worthy of being worshipped except Allah."(twice) "Ash-hadu anna Muhammad-ar-Rasoolullah" - recited TWO times. Meaning, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah."(recited twice) "Hayya 'alas-Salah" - recited TWO times. Meaning, "Come to prayer."(turning the face alone to the right and saying it twice) "Hayya 'alal-falah" - recited TWO times. Meaning, "Come to Success."(turning the face alone to the left and saying it twice) "Allahu Akbar" - recited TWO times. Meaning, "Allah is Most Great" (face back to front and saying it two times). Morning (Fajr) Prayers The following phrase is added after "Hayya 'alal-falah" in the Azan of the early morning prayers: "As-salatu khairum minannaum" - recited Two times. Meaning, "Prayer is better than sleep" (recited two times). ''La ilaha illallah'' There is no deity except for Allah.
