"Yer man's in the pits, boss!" Joseph Kosinski's crowd-pleasingly kinetic F1 was one of the success stories of the year at the box office, displaying impressive legs (or wheels) to take the chequered flag with over $600 million in the global bank, making it the biggest hit of Brad Pitt's career. And now that the film is making its debut on Apple TV, our Chris Hewitt sat down with the film's producer, the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer, and stars Damson Idris and Kerry Condon for a fun, frank and fascinating look back at the movie. It's not a spoiler special, per se, but familiarity with F1 (the movie, not the sport, although that might help too) couldn't hurt. However you're listening to this, we hope you enjoy.
Hour 2 opens with a TNF recap, focusing on the Colts' surprising signing of 44-year-old Phillip Rivers, who hasn't played in five years. We discuss the NFL's quarterback shortage, compare Rivers' return to the Dolphins picking up TE Darren Waller after a two-year hiatus, and debate if Tom Brady could still play today. Larry Blustein joins to recap a wild week in high school football, including Cardinal Newman's upset of Chaminade and a preview of Miami Northwestern vs. Raines, expecting a massive crowd for the playoff showdown. Hollywood wraps the hour with his top headlines, from a fired Titans reporter for leaking team plane info to a tennis point-shaving scandal, F1's move to Apple TV, and the final pennies selling for $16.7 million.
Hollywood runs through the day's top headlines, starting with a Titans reporter who was fired for leaking information from the team plane — breaking one of the biggest unwritten rules in sports media. He also covers the stunning news of a tennis player hit with a $70K fine and a 20-year suspension for point shaving, plus the surge in F1 viewership as the series prepares to move to Apple TV and implement major rule changes in 2026. The segment wraps with a quirky story: the final pennies ever minted sold for an incredible $16.7 million.

How do you make sense of an industry that is changing at a pace few predicted, especially with SIGNAL London still fresh in our minds and Twilio unveiling the next stage of its vision for customer engagement? That question sits at the heart of today's conversation with Peter Bell, VP of Marketing for EMEA at Twilio, who joined me to unpack what the past year has taught both companies and consumers about AI's role in shaping modern experiences. Peter begins by grounding everything in a single, striking shift. Only a year ago, AI-powered search barely registered in global traffic. Today it accounts for around a fifth of all searches. That leap signals a broader behavioral shift as consumers move instinctively toward conversational interfaces, which, in turn, leaves brands with a clear message. The clock has moved on. AI is no longer a nice-to-have. It is a direct response to how people now choose to discover, question, and buy. Our conversation turns to the gap between customer expectations and the experiences they receive. Peter discusses why brands often struggle to integrate channels, data, and AI coherently. He explains how first party data has become the anchor for any serious AI strategy, why generic public models cannot solve brand-specific tasks, and why the most successful teams start with simple, tightly scoped problems. A password reset may not sound glamorous, yet it is the kind of focused use case that teaches teams how to govern data, automate safely, and build confidence in the process. We also spend time on branded calling, RCS, and the evolution of voice. Peter breaks down what modern messaging now looks like and why trust sits at the center of every interaction. His explanation of Conversational Relay shows why natural voice exchanges finally feel within reach after years of frustration with rigid IVR systems. The thread running through all of this is clear. Consumers want speed and clarity, but they want reassurance too, and brands need to honor both sides of that equation. Later in the conversation, Peter makes one of the episode's most compelling points. Brand visibility has become harder, not easier, because much of the early research now occurs within AI tools. Buyers form opinions long before they speak with a sales rep. That shift explains why so many B2B companies are returning to high-impact brand channels, whether that is F1 sponsorships or other standout moments that keep them in the initial consideration set. We close with the topic that Peter believes will define the next stage of enterprise AI. Model Context Protocol. MCP has emerged as a quiet breakthrough, enabling LLMs to access data across CRM systems, files, and other software through a standard protocol. This removes one of the biggest blockers in AI projects: the practical challenge of connecting disparate data to a model built for a specific purpose. As Peter puts it, MCP gives companies a realistic way to make the special-purpose models that deliver reliable ROI. It is a wide-ranging conversation shaped by SIGNAL London's announcements, the evolving customer journey, and a year in which AI moved from curiosity to expectation. I would love to know what part stood out most to you. Are you seeing the same shifts Peter describes in your own business, and how are you preparing for the year ahead? Become a Supporter of The Real Science of Sport by making a small monthly pledge, and you also get access to our world-class community of experts and enthusiasts. Plus you get to explain sports like F1 and Squash to Gareth and Ross!Show notesToday, we focus on three news pieces from last week that reminded us of other stories we covered during 2025. The first two concern weight loss and management in elite sport, beginning with a look at the GLP-1 agonist issue (28:27). This was triggered by reports in the UK advising people that they must continue to exercise, specifically weight train, in order to combat the loss of lean mass that has been observed on the drug, which some have equated with aging a decade. Elite sport, meanwhile, will have to consider whether to ban such drugs as potentially performance-enhancing or harmful. On the subject of harm, we stay on weight issues to discuss RED-s (40:10), in the light of a remarkable and candid announcement by elite cyclist Veronica Ewers that she's taking time away from the sport to address issues that she explains go back over a decade. Her story highlights all the traps - control and thoughtfulness about discipline, obsession over measurement and gadgets, disordered eating, intense training, positive validation in competitive environments, the remarkable ability of the body to tolerate this punishment, but ultimately, the sacrifice of health in a misplaced pursuit of performance. We talk about the lessons we can all learn, thinking back to Pauline Ferrand-Prevot's victory in the TDFF, which was a success story for weight periodization. We also cover precocious talent, after a three-year old Indian prodigy earned a chess ranking (1:00:40). That reminded us of Malcolm Gladwell's "compression of adolescence" concept, and we talk about the inefficiencies sport accepts in its pursuit of the next champion, highlighted numerous times this year, with the realization that the system is broken and won't be fixed unless there is a collective will be fix it.Also in this show, a more light-hearted look at the Football and Rugby World Cup draws (2:54) has us bemoaning the dilution of quality and the dearth of competitive matches early in those tournaments. And we chat about a super-fast Valencia marathon (10:43), that threw up fast winning times and nine national records, leading to a chat about globalization of the sport, the dominance of African runners, the slowest marathon nations (with some reasons), and the density of men's and women's top performers.Plus Gareth remembers that Curacao is both a drink and World Cup finalist, and Ross defends Ghana's football honour!Other linksReview article advising resistance training in people taking GLP-1 agonistsPaper that examines weight loss after 1 year of exercise or GLP-1 drugsMore in-depth look at appetite and exercise behaviours in that studyStudy finding risk for RED-s in 30% of triathletes, including the tools that can be used to identify risk factorsCycling teams paying young riders big salaries Hosted on Acast. We sit down with Megan Smith of Acadia Goldendoodles in Maine, who proves that responsible breeding can—and should—be a joy. After 17 years in the game, Megan has cracked the code on sustainability and enjoyment. She takes us on a tour of her spectacular facility, which we've affectionately dubbed a "summer camp for dogs," designed for maximum enrichment, wellbeing, and ease in managing around 20 breeding dogs at a time. Megan also explains her decision to focus exclusively on F1 and F1b generations of Goldendoodles, detailing the specific reasons and goals behind that choice. Through it all, she emphasizes the critical role of continuous education and improvement in maintaining an ethical program over nearly two decades. Whether you're a new breeder or a veteran, you'll gain creative insights into how Megan maintains her passion and makes breeding a rewarding, long-term career.

F1TV experts Jolyon Palmer and James Hinchcliffe join Tom Clarkson in the Yas Marina paddock after Lando Norris was crowned Formula 1 World Champion for the first time. He was 34 points adrift after round 15, so how did Lando complete such an incredible comeback in this title fight? Has he broken the mould in terms of what we imagine a World Champion to be like? And how will being champion change Lando? You'll hear reaction from the man himself, as he talks about turning his ‘struggles into strengths' and winning this title 'the Lando way'. His race engineer Will Joseph also joins the pod to discuss how they overcame a challenging first half of the season and where they go from here. On the other side of the garage, Oscar Piastri came home in P2 but fell short of the title by 13 points. Why did Oscar lose out after leading the championship for most of the season? What does he need to work on to take the next step? And is there a chance that Oscar will become second favourite at McLaren now that Lando has a title to his name? Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for his eighth race win of the season, but misses out on what would have been a fifth title in a row by just two points. Could Max and Red Bull have done anything differently to put more pressure on McLaren in this race? Has this been Max's best season in Formula 1? And will Red Bull's transformation in the second half of the year give Max more reason to commit his long-term future to the team? It's one richest sports in the world but it still needs to adapt to the times. F1 is now trying to appeal to a younger fan base through deals with Netflix and Lego.Plus it's trying to break that lucrative US market with races in Las Vegas and huge broadcasting deals. We hear from the key figures at F1 and from former F1 driver David Coulthard, who witnessed the end of tobacco sponsorship and saw the likes of Red Bull coming into the paddock. If you'd like to get in touch with the programme, our email address is businessdaily@bbc.co.ukPresented and produced by Victoria Turner(Image: Max Verstappen races down the Las Vegas Strip during the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix on 22 Nov 2025. Dan Prosser and Andrew Frankel discuss the life and career of triple Formula 1 World Champion Ayrton Senna. The Brazilian is regarded by many to be the greatest F1 driver of all time. He was ferociously quick, fearless in wheel-to-wheel battle and a master in the rain, but also willing to resort to underhand or even dangerous tactics to win.Senna died aged only 34, leaving his home country and the entire motorsport world bereft. He is one of only a handful of F1 drivers to truly transcend the sport and become a prominent figure in society as a whole. Andrew remembers the time he rode with Senna at Silverstone in a Honda NSX, and how impressive he was behind the wheel. Welcome to Season 5, Episode 49! Vroooommmm!!! We're exploring the story of Asian Pacific Islanders in Formula 1… and this is something we actually know a bit about. This is a sport long dominated by Europeans and a handful of South Americans, but there has been a small group of drivers of Asian Pacific descent who have made an impact in recent years. We'll share a little about F1 racing in general as well as when API began making their mark in the sport. In addition to recent drivers like Alex Albon (our favorite), Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou Guanyu, and now Arvid Lindblad, we'll also talk about a few engineers, leaders, and teams that have prominent Asian representation. In our recurring segment, we'll share what we're listening to. For Ted, it's the audiobook of Babel by R.F. Kuang. It's narrated by Chris Lew Kum Hoi and Billie Fulford-Brown. For Gen, it's the music of Sarah Kinsley… specifically the song Fleeting. If you like what we do, please share, follow, and like us in your podcast directory of choice or on Instagram @AAHistory101. Lando Norris held his nerve in a tense showdown to become 2025 Formula 1 world champion. Title rivals Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri did everything they could to wrest the crown, with the Red Bull driver taking his eighth GP victory of the season, but it wasn't enough to stop the emotional Briton. Host Kevin Turner is joined by F1 journalists Stuart Codling and Jake Boxall-Legge at the end of a remarkable season to discuss how the Abu Dhabi finale unfolded, who starred and who flopped – and whether the outgoing ground-effect era was a hit or a miss. It's a Magnificent Monday as the crew reacts to a wild weekend in South Florida sports. The Miami Hurricanes shock their way into the College Football Playoff and Inter Miami brings home the MLS Cup, sparking both celebration and controversy. While Tobin and Brittney refuse to credit Leroy for “calling it,” he doubles down on his victory lap. The Dolphins keep stacking wins despite Tua's shaky performances, the Chiefs look vulnerable, and the crew debates whether the Jets' uniforms were, in fact, “poop colored.” Leroy hands out his Gameballs and Gamebums—plus a message for Notre Dame to stop crying. The tension ramps up as the group revisits Miami's CFP bid and shifts to the struggling Heat, who have dropped three straight amid reports of potential Ja Morant trade conversations. A full-blown squad quibble erupts when Brittney digs up old audio to challenge Tobin's Ja Morant takes, leading to accusations of flip-flopping and gaslighting. Things stay spicy through the fan-favorite Monday game “Alright! Oh No!” featuring praise for Carter Verhaeghe, more Notre Dame slander, and the crew turning on each other in classic chaotic fashion.
Then it is time for our favorite Monday Game Alright! Oh No!; Tobin praises Carter Verhaeghe, Leroy begs Notre Dame to stop crying, and we all quickly turn on each other when we start proclaiming each other as our Oh No's!
Brittney digs the archives to find clips of Tobin saying he didn't want Ja Morant but the evidence isn't enough for Tobin to take accountability. The quibble continues as Tobin tries to gaslight the gang; things get testy between everyone as Leroy, Jfig, and Brittney are not letting him get away with this one. Then it is time for our favorite Monday Game Alright! Oh No!; Tobin praises Carter Verhaeghe, Leroy begs Notre Dame to stop crying, and we all quickly turn on each other when we start proclaiming each other as our Oh No's!
