In episode 198, a Patreon Picks episode, Tony & Eddie check out 2015's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. This fast paced, fun and witty movie is a blast to watch. Although Tony started early by calling the movie convoluted, he flip-flopped (nooooo, right?)as the boys gushed about the film for the duration of the hour. There's a lot here that makes this a must watch. But the boys seemed to really love the humor, and speed of the film. They disagreed a bit about how a sequel could or should exist - but ultimately this episode and this movie were a fun ride. The Patreon supporters have also selected the beers for this episode and Eddie samples a Southern Tier favorite, 2XMAS, while Tony has yet another thicc boi beer from New Trail Brewing called Moonlit w/ Vanilla. There's hot takes and deep adoration in these two reviews. Stick around for the beer rating at the end of the episode.
For November's mini episode, Tony & Eddie focus on the their truest of loves - beer. Tony gets ready for stout season a little early this week with a 13% ABV stout from Shy Bear Brewing. Although Tony does love a heavy brew, he's got some conflicted thoughts on this very dark and roasty special edition stout. Eddie has a flagship brew from a hugely popular brewery, BrewDog. This insanely fruity IPA was a refreshing break from his streak of Oktoberfest brews this month. If you're more of a fruity IPA person VS a bitter IPA person - this could be the brew for you. For almost no video game talk (a rare thing in a mini) and lots of love for at least one of these featured brews - tune in this week!
One man’s fame, success, and glory—and the story behind it allThis week’s guest is one my closest friends in the entire world—someone you might not expect but a person who has made one of the biggest impacts on my life. He was my model for navigating sobriety in the public eye and someone whom I immediately felt I knew and felt safe with—his name is Tony Mandarich. In this episode we dive into the story behind the glory and talk about Tony’s upbringing, his climb in athleticism and fame, playing football in college, to finally being drafted to the NFL. He opens up about his addictions and the three pivotal events that brought everything crashing down. Listen to this episode to hear how resilience, perseverance, and being fed up led one man to turn his life around from addiction and commit to a different kind of success and lifestyle—sobriety.Listen to this episode nowMore than just footballTony’s story is much more than just football. He starts by sharing his family background, how they escaped communism and immigrated from Croatia to a small town in Canada. As a young kid, Tony vividly remembers being 11 years old and writing down his dreams of one day playing in the NFL. When Tony turned 16, he realized he could not be scouted in Canada. He shares his brothers sacrifice to move him down to the States, and how that move was the beginning of everything. However, the fame, the success, the glory—Tony’s story is behind it all. For him, football is the platform and tool to carry his greater message. Addiction to “I’m done”He shares the moments and thoughts that led up to the first time he injected steroids, the psychological effects that are ten times more extreme than the physical ones, the three tragic events that spiraled him to his breaking point, and the specific events that led to him getting sober from alcohol and painkillers. Although Tony isn’t proud of some of his past, he has changed his virtues and values to align with who he wants to be. He uses football as a means to share his story, his addiction, his sobriety, and to give others hope. He speaks out about how he had nothing to lose anymore because he had lost everything and himself—how even if you are in a storm of pain, it’s important to trust that there is beauty on the other side. Tony MandarichToday, Tony is a successful and world-renowned photographer and public speaker. After retiring from football, he perfected his own craft as a professional photographer and achieved prominence and recognition for his uniquely compelling images. He lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. The goal is to get back to that innocence of what’s really fucking important 12:00 - tracyIf that's the competition, I need to up my game. 13:30 - tonyI need to catch up and when I catch up, i need to surpass 24:00 - tonyIn my opinion i think marijuana is more of a gateway. 27 - tonyIts crazy the lengths we will go to not feel and to take things to the next level. 30:15 - tracyIn order to rebuild the foundation you have to level it completely. 32:35 - tracyI had a bottle of 90 painkillers and i took 8-10 of them. 35:20 tonyI could watch them slipping out of the bottle into the air, into the water into the toilet and dissolving because they are made of gelatin and i remember the two words I said to myself, I’m done. There are a lot of conspiracy theories out there. We talk about 10 of the funniest ones. Although Tony thinks he's an athlete, we go over our most un-athletic injuries. Before we finish we talk about some of the movie trailers that were released during the Super Bowl.
Tony Gaskins Jr. is a motivational speaker, author, and life coach who has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. Tony built his brand from scratch to where he now has more than 1 million followers on social media. At 22, he became an author. At 23, he became a husband and father. At 25, he started his first company, Soul Writers LLC. At 25, he also got himself on globally televised shows to tell a portion of his story. Tony decided to turn his pain into purpose and live a life of service. Raised in the church and being the son of a pastor, there was something about service that stuck with Tony. Tony made his fair share of mistakes like most young men from areas like where he grew up. Many of his childhood friends are serving life sentences in prison. Although Tony was introduced to the street life between the ages of 18–23, he finally found his way. At 23, he allowed love to change his life. His wife was unwilling to be with a man who wouldn’t live up to his full potential. That tough love pushed Tony to be more and to do more. By combining all of his passions Tony became an author, life coach, and speaker. In 2015 Tony began working with an NBA team as the team life coach. Tony also became the life coach for several college teams. His message comes from his mess. He believes that we all are coaches because we’ve all learned lessons that can help someone else. Operating in his gifts also took him around the world as a highly sought- after speaker. Tony has spoken in two other continents and over 10 different countries and counting. Tony was able to accomplish these feats by the tender age of 31. He doesn’t believe in boxes. “Don’t put me in a box until I’m going in the ground,” he says. He covers a wide range of topics in the areas of life, love, and business. He’s written several books on those subjects with his latest work being The Dream Chaser published by Wiley and available everywhere books are sold. If you are a sales person who relies on cold calling or going door-to-door to try to generate leads, then this audio will benefit you tremendously! Here’s the background: Tony is a full-time minister who has been trying to support himself on his own so that the church wouldn’t need to support him and his family. Over the past few years, he’s tried a few business ventures that were initially successful but didn’t do well after a while. He’s currently a sales representative for a company that helps businesses to lower their electric bills. Basically, Tony is making a full-time effort pounding the pavement attempting to make his sales presentation to business owners. Although Tony’s only been with the company for a few months, he’s found that it’s pretty easy to get in to make the presentation and his closing rate is 50%, which in my opinion is pretty good. Listen as Tony and I role play a typical presentation of how his company can reduce a business’s electric bill significantly. It’s a very well organized, sophisticated presentation that Tony does using flip charts and doing calculations from the business owner’s electric bill to determine if the business is a qualified prospect. This is an exclusive interview from Michael Senoff at www.hardtofindseminars.com.
