Today, Den reveals the secret to success in business. Hey, did you just scoff? I get it. But please suspend your judgment until you hear at least the first two minutes of this episode, okay? There really is a secret to success, but it ain't glamorous, sexy or exciting, but… it does work.Plus, there are sales and marketing tips aplenty. Here's a sneak peek at what you'll hear:How to "plod" your way to great success using the “Gradatim Ferociter” method. - 0:40Laughably stupid Facebook ads (more like Farcebook ads) that promise unicorns but deliver donkeys. Cunning marketers love to use these types of ads to fill up their online courses and sell their wares. (Why are these ads so prevalent on FB? Well, as the saying goes, there's a sucker born every minute, and a lot of them are clicking on these ads! - 1:00)The "rubbernecking business owner" phenomena. (And... how it's costing business owners their time, focus, and confidence. - 2:00)The foolish - and completely nonsensical - excuse we make to ourselves that stop us from taking the action we know we should take. (Ever put off doing something you know would help your business? If so, there's a good chance you are using this excuse. - 5:10)A surprisingly simple productivity hack to avoid those "pissing in the wind" days at work. - 6:40Why obsessing over the differences between B2B and B2C marketing is silly. - 7:00A mini crash course on online marketing for video freelancers. Starts at 9:10How many times does a prospect need to be exposed to your marketing message before they even think about contacting you? I bet your guess will be way off the mark with this one. Find out at 9:40The secret to writing irresistible headlines for eBooks, articles, and subject lines. - 11:30A cracking good business book that will sharpen your marketing fangs to a gleaming sharp edge. - 14:20An admittedly "uncomfortable" (and counterintuitive) marketing approach that, when done correctly, can bring you a horde of new customers clamouring at your door, eager to do business with you. - 15:00The secret power behind "The One Thing" maxim. - 16:00Why you should fall in love with sales.  Sadly, most business owners would rather get a root canal than sell. (And that's why they'll never effortlessly and consistently make sweet, tender sales. - 16:30)Why most business owners are not really business owners. - 18:40When relying on yourself is a BAD idea. - 21:30Connect with Den on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/denlennie/Get more great resources over at https://www.denlennie.com/Support the show (https://www.denlennie.com/free-training)

Today, Den reveals some insider secrets for turning ice-cold prospects into white-hot, eager-to-buy prospects who see you as an authority and expert to be trusted instead of just another business owner peddling their wares. Here's a sneak peek at what you'll hear:What to do if you hate outbound marketing. (Doing this will take some time, but if you can pull this off, you won't need to do any outbound marketing! - 1:15)An almost unknown adman every business owner should study. Many people in the direct response industry call this curious and reclusive man "The Most Persuasive Man of The 20th Century." This adman once wrote a television advert that sold to one in every 14 American TV owners. He made $50 million dollars from a textbook on natural health. Here's how studying this man can help you market your business... - 2:55A hardly ever-talked-about (and very profitable) skill every freelance videographer should develop. Developing this skill can even turn freelance videographers who would rather gargle battery acid than sell, into wickedly good salespeople. (And no... this skill is not sales. What is this skill? Listen up at 3:10)How “super creative” freelance video guys lose business by unwittingly spooking their prospective corporate clients.  - 5:40The "CA" marketing principle almost every business owner is clueless about. (This is the BIG reason why the average business owner's marketing is about as useless as a glass hammer. - 6:18)3 types of business owners you should NEVER market your video production service to. These 3 business owners might be cashed up, be great people, and even need your services, but they will end up being a complete waste of your time and dime. Here's why... - 6:302 types of business owners you should market your video production service to. - 7:00The unspeakably good "downloadable" asset. This is the BIG secret (used by the most successful online marketers on the planet) for getting a horde of prospects chasing you down instead of you chasing them! - 8:40How to “hack” your way to becoming an authority in your industry. Do what Den reveals at 11:15 and prospects won't treat you like an ordinary video guy, but instead... they will revere you, respect you, and see you as an expert and an industry leader.A caveman simple email marketing strategy that when done correctly, can bring in a ton of new business. - 15:40How to get Google and YouTube to send you the perfect prospects for your video business. - 16:10The "mere exposure" marketing phenomena that can when applied to your business can flood your business with new clients and new business. Sadly, probably 98% of business owners are too scared to tap into this extraordinary marketing phenomenon. - 16:45A special type of "book" that can generate your business leads all day every day! - 19:00A clever way to ethically bribe your website visitors into doing business with you. - 25:30The single biggest reason why business owners fail miserably at email marketing. (Not only is this thing lame... it's also disingenuous. - 1:50)Why many video business owners are like the pufferfish. - 2:303 hardly-ever-talked about reasons why running a lean-and-mean business is severely underrated.Ever feel intimidated dealing with a large corporation because you're just a one-man band? (Then listen in 4:00 and you'll start relishing the fact you're a lean operation.)Why having a big office and a large team of employees is like being the world's tallest midget. - 4:10A special kind of sales pitch that solo video business owners can use when dealing with big companies and corporations that can turn your lack of size into a red hot reason to hire you. (This sales pitch is based on something George Bernard once said: “If you can't hide the skeleton, you might as well make it dance!" Hear Den reveal this ingenious sales pitch at 4:15)One of the most crucial things potential clients want to know before they hire a video production company is this... - 7:15Why obsessing over how big your prospective clients perceive your business to be is downright foolish... and... what you should be obsessing over instead. - 9:35The “skid mark on the underwear” of the film industry. - 10:00Den talks about the torrent of BS that cascades down the hallways of the video production community. - 10:20A “caveman simple” sales-pitch that's almost guaranteed to be music to the ears of prospective clients. (This type of sales pitch will work just as well for any business in any industry, too. - 11:00)Why offering MORE services can sometimes make your video business LESS profitable. - 12:00Is the number of services your video business offers multiplying faster than a catholic rabbit? Then you might want to tune in at 12:30Should you go “broad and shallow” or “narrow and deep” with your marketing? Hear Den's answer at 14:40The #1 mistake most video production guys make when dealing with clients. This is a very subtle thing, but its negative impact is not so subtle. - 16:106 things all the most successful video business owners do that their lesser brethren don't do or at least don't do as well. - 16:40How to get your clients to see you as a business partner instead of a lowly gun for hire. - 17:50Den's surprising revelation about "time" (Admittedly, this one sounds strange coming from a 50-year-old, but it's also hard to argue with this one. Hear this at 18:20)Den boogies on out of his studio to party hardy. Sermon on the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, also known as Candlemas. The gospel reading: Luke 2.22–40 22 When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23(as it is written in the law of the Lord, ‘Every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord'), 24and they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the Lord, ‘a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.' 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. 26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Messiah.27Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, 28Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, 29 ‘Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; 30 for my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.' 33 And the child's father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. 34Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, ‘This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed 35so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—and a sword will pierce your own soul too.' 36 There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband for seven years after her marriage, 37then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshipped there with fasting and prayer night and day. 38At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. 39 When they had finished everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. 40The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favour of God was upon him.

For additional notes and resources check out Douglas’ website.IntroductionSilas is mainly referred to in Acts 15-18. “Silas” first appears in Acts 15:22. He is referred to by his full name, Silvanus, in 2 Cor 1:19; 1 Thess 1:1; 2 Thess 1:1; and 1 Pet 5:12.His ministry is rich:Silas is a prophet—one of two who encourage the faithful in Antioch (15:32). In some sense, bringing the Word of God—or a word from God.He's also a writer. He assisted both Paul (1 Thess 1:1; 2 Thess 1:1) and Peter (1 Pet 5:12).And he is Paul's colleague in ministry. After Paul's disagreement with Barnabas, Paul takes Silas with him (in lieu of Barnabas himself) on the trip to the cities where Paul and Barnabas had established congregations (Acts 15:40). Compared with Barnabas, Silas is perhaps more an assistant than a partner. Nevertheless, especially considering their Philippian experience, they must have been bonded.Acts 16:19-40The situation in Acts 16:16ff. – economic motivation for persecution.Notice the verbs: seized, dragged, stripped, beaten, flogged, thrown, fastened.Lack of due process. Both Paul and Silas were Roman citizens. When I’m treated unfairly, do I pout?I often assumed these were happy songs. Maybe so, yet the Psalms include many darker, though situationally more appropriate, prayers.Praying and singing are excellent therapy for the cuts and bruises, and even for the injustice. The miraculous release reminds us of Peter’s release from prison in Acts 12.Further:Thessalonica: After Paul and Silas had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia (Acts 17:1). Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas (17:4a). While they were searching for Paul and Silas to bring them out to the assembly. (17:5b).Berea: That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas off to Berea (17:10). When Paul leaves Thessalonica, Silas stays behind with Timothy, and is thereafter associated exclusively with him and only secondarily with Paul (17:14, 17:15b, 18:5a).Corinth: Preached there along with Paul and Timothy (Acts 18:5). The trio are also mentioned in 2 Cor 1:19.For us:Don’t be afraid of opposition. An extra reason—besides Jesus’ and Paul’s promise that it is unavoidable, and Peter’s promise that the spirit of glory will rest upon us—is relational. It draws people together when they shareabout their hardships—or share them, going through them together. When you’re in trouble, sing (Acts 16:25)!Be faithful. Peter tells us Silas is a “faithful” brother. We will not be perfect, but we can be faithful. It’s nice when busy people need us, and can depend on us. Silas was such a person.Accept differing degrees of closeness between Christians, even when they spend a significant amount of time together.Consider Jesus and the 3, or Paul and Timothy. And that’s okay! Be content to be the "number two guy."

I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”Philippians 3:8Unity – We are better together“…that they may be one as we are one.”John 17:22Prayer – We won’t move without prayer“When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.”John 8:28God’s Word – We live and die by it“Jesus answered Satan when Satan was tempting him in the garden, ‘It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”Matthew 4:4Faith – We are Kingdom risk-takers“We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name…Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching…”Acts 5:28“We must obey God rather than human beings!”Acts 5:29Their value is driving their decisions and actions.“They ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.” Acts 5:40The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Athlete CEO Podcast How to Coach and How to Be CoachedWhat makes Derek Jeter who he is? What made him great? Coach Dana Cavalea is the former Director of Strength & Conditioning and Performance for the New York Yankees. He joins Brandon and Erik Averill on Athlete CEO to discuss what goes into a “Championship Mindset” and why mental balance is a key for success regardless of business or profession. Guest: Dana Cavalea“Habits of a Champion”Twitterhttps://danacavalea.com/ 2:12Define what is performance and how Dana would define being a champion.Dana Cavalea “You need to be better tomorrow than you are today.”3:01There is no one size fits all. You have to know what works for you. You don’t enhance performance by taking a pill or vitamin once, you get better over time by doing the right things. 4:40“Performance Coach” or “Life Coach” seem to be modern buzzwords. Dana describes his journey and what led him to becoming a life coach, which starts with interning for free with the New York Yankees while in college at the University of Southern Florida.6:26After Dana figured out he wasn’t going to be a professional ballplayer, he followed his passion of training and getting ready for the season, and investigated ways he could make that into a profession.9:25When Dana learned how you can literally go from one side of the fence to the other side of the fence in 24 hours. He had to make some significant sacrifices at the age of 19 that many others that age wouldn’t be willing to make, in order to fulfill his dream of being involved with the New York Yankees.11:17How did Dana end up becoming the Yankees head performance coach at just 23 years old.12:45Dana says he didn’t really know anything about the job he had, that he was just getting started, but he did recognize the importance of truly knowing people and caring about people. Dana Cavalea “Life is bar it’s your job to tend it.”14:18Dana saw an opportunity after starting off as a trainer to become an asset manager of human capital and he came up with a “Player Profile” that became a screening process to identify risk16:19The idea of the growth mindset or a “Champions’ Mindset” and how Cavalea incorporates that into his training and evaluation. Dana Cavalea: “It requires you to do things that the average person doesn't do. It encourages you and forces you to be somebody that's different than everybody else, because champions are different than everybody else. You have to act different, be different, present yourself different, and when you do those things, you get different results than everybody else, which is what champions do, which is what high performers do.”19:20The championship mentality is not just effective for athletes either, it plays big in the business and investment world as well. So many of the people Dana works with in the business world have a life changing event, like a heart attack, or something, that forces them to work on the mental and physical side of their health.26:40The idea of work/life balance from the lens of Dana’s work. Dana believes it’s important to compartmentalize your day and own their schedules.Dana Cavalea: “Own your schedule, own your day, own your life.”  29:40What made Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and the Yankees legends that Cavalea was working with different? 3rd chapter: verses 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40The lecture was given by Swami Tattwamayananda on April 10, 2020.-36th verse: Arjuna’s question – “Impelled by what force, do we do unpleasant things, even though we are unwilling?”-37th verse: Lord Krishna says – Kāma (Desire) and Krodha (Anger) are the two great enemies. They are also linked to the two problems of Rāga (attachment) and Dvesha (Aversion), discussed in earlier verses.-33rd verse: Even a wise man is seen as following his natural, psychological disposition. This is true of even great mystics, but they do their natural duties, from a higher perspective. Story of Vyadha is discussed – he was a realized person, but did not give up his profession as a butcher.-34th verse: Our natural tendency is to have attraction or aversion to stimuli from the senses. Mind interprets experiences from these stimuli as Sukha (pleasant) - to which it develops attraction - or Duhkha (unpleasant) – to which it develops aversion.-If we allow mind to be enslaved by these sense stimuli, we are doomed - mind will waver with sukha and duhkha. Mind should be the master of the senses, not enslaved by them.-If we can free the mind from extreme attachment and aversion, we will conserve energy and mind will be in a state of equilibrium.-Mallinātha defines Rāga as: We remember certain experiences of the past that are stored in Chittam. We feel a strange attachment towards them, even though we know it is spiritual slavery.-Patanjali discusses Rāga as something that brings external enjoyment that is momentary. Once it disappears, what is left is unhappiness. Happiness is nothing but temporary absence of unhappiness.-Rāga can be given a spiritual promotion with Bhakti. If you want to love something, have love for something sublime and transcendental. Love God. This sublimation of mental disposition is called Bhakti – it becomes a tool for our spiritual progress.-Dvesha can also be given a spiritual promotion. Have aversion towards things that are not good for us or humanity.-35th verse: It is better to practice one’s own Swadharma, even if practiced imperfectly, than doing someone else’s work in a perfect manner.-Examples of danger when entrapped by sense objects are provided from the animal kingdom. Deer (sense of hearing), Elephant (sense of touch). Moth (sense of seeing), Fish (sense of taste), Bee (sense of smell). Each of these creatures reaches death as they are guided by one of their senses. What to speak of humans who have five senses active all the time.-The intellect should control the mind, which should control the senses. Then senses then become obedient and useful instruments.-37th verse: Kāma and Krodha are the two enemies that draw our mind to actions that we don’t want to do. There are four other enemies: lobha (greed), moha (ignorance), mada (pride), mātsarya (envy). Kāma is the chief enemy.-When kāma emerges in mind, we direct efforts to fulfill it. If we are successful, we are happy. If not, we get angry. Anger leads to delusion, which leads to loss of memory – at that point, senses take control of our whole personality.-This happens despite intellectual awareness, as mind and intellect do not co-operate. Religion and philosophy are tools to free the mind from senses.-38th and 39th verse: As fire is covered by smoke, mirror by dust and embryo by amnion – so also, mind is enveloped by kāma and krodha. Knowledge is covered by kāma – it is like a fire that should be controlled.-Kālidāsa’s Kumārasambhavam: “Youth, money, power – each individually can lead to one’s downfall, if one has no spiritual common sense. What to speak of all them combined together”.-40th verse: Kāma resides in the antaḥkaraṇa (mainly mind), five senses of perception and five senses of action. Antaḥkaraṇa refers to four compartments: mana, buddhi, chitta, ahamkara.-When kāma enters the mind, it activates the senses of perception and action, prompting them to fulfill the desire. Slightest failure can have a devastating effect on a mind that is not in control of senses.-Ancient ayurvedic verse from Sushruta Samhita, emphasizes that physical health needs to be complemented with a pleasantly disposed and contented mind, senses and spirit.-This is only possible by linking the mind to the transcendental because psychological problems can only be solved at the spiritual level. Mind can be given a higher orientation by feeding it with spiritual ideas – then it becomes stable. Then it can look beyond the world of senses. It remains steady in pain and pleasure, happiness and adversity.

One man’s fame, success, and glory—and the story behind it allThis week’s guest is one my closest friends in the entire world—someone you might not expect but a person who has made one of the biggest impacts on my life. He was my model for navigating sobriety in the public eye and someone whom I immediately felt I knew and felt safe with—his name is Tony Mandarich. In this episode we dive into the story behind the glory and talk about Tony’s upbringing, his climb in athleticism and fame, playing football in college, to finally being drafted to the NFL. He opens up about his addictions and the three pivotal events that brought everything crashing down. Listen to this episode to hear how resilience, perseverance, and being fed up led one man to turn his life around from addiction and commit to a different kind of success and lifestyle—sobriety.Listen to this episode nowMore than just footballTony’s story is much more than just football. He starts by sharing his family background, how they escaped communism and immigrated from Croatia to a small town in Canada. As a young kid, Tony vividly remembers being 11 years old and writing down his dreams of one day playing in the NFL. When Tony turned 16, he realized he could not be scouted in Canada. He shares his brothers sacrifice to move him down to the States, and how that move was the beginning of everything. However, the fame, the success, the glory—Tony’s story is behind it all. For him, football is the platform and tool to carry his greater message. Addiction to “I’m done”He shares the moments and thoughts that led up to the first time he injected steroids, the psychological effects that are ten times more extreme than the physical ones, the three tragic events that spiraled him to his breaking point, and the specific events that led to him getting sober from alcohol and painkillers. Although Tony isn’t proud of some of his past, he has changed his virtues and values to align with who he wants to be. He uses football as a means to share his story, his addiction, his sobriety, and to give others hope. He speaks out about how he had nothing to lose anymore because he had lost everything and himself—how even if you are in a storm of pain, it’s important to trust that there is beauty on the other side. Tony MandarichToday, Tony is a successful and world-renowned photographer and public speaker. After retiring from football, he perfected his own craft as a professional photographer and achieved prominence and recognition for his uniquely compelling images. He lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. The goal is to get back to that innocence of what’s really fucking important 12:00 - tracyIf that's the competition, I need to up my game. 13:30 - tonyI need to catch up and when I catch up, i need to surpass 24:00 - tonyIn my opinion i think marijuana is more of a gateway. 27 - tonyIts crazy the lengths we will go to not feel and to take things to the next level. 30:15 - tracyIn order to rebuild the foundation you have to level it completely. 32:35 - tracyI had a bottle of 90 painkillers and i took 8-10 of them. 35:20 tonyI could watch them slipping out of the bottle into the air, into the water into the toilet and dissolving because they are made of gelatin and i remember the two words I said to myself, I’m done. I said, I’d rather be a boring sober person than a miserable drunk. 37:48 - tonyThere are some areas in my life that are as bad as they can get 41:15 - tonyI always come back to, Does that certain one make my life unimaginable? 43:40 - tonyEnabling an addict is an addiction 44:35 - tracyIt takes an army to keep someone in an addiction. 44:55 - tracyFor me probably one of the most dangerous things is time on my hands 46:25 - tonyThere is a certain core of everyone that will always be that person. 46:50 - tonyTurn devices, the extremes, the compulsions, into virtues, channel them into virtues. 47:10 - tonyI'm not as much a perfectionist and I used to be, because ive realized that my perfectionism or wanting to be perfect as i got older was more of a hindrance than a benefit. 48:15 - tony I don't care if im right anymore, I just want to be the most effective communicator especially to those I care about and that sometimes means eating a huge, huge plate of humble pie. 52:30 - tracyWhen I see someone walk through the middle of fire, it's the one word I really attach to things like that are resilience because it's not easy and just because you’re sober, life happens. 01:03:40The only thing that the 12 step program guarantees you is if you follow these steps we guarantee you sobriety, we don’t guarantee you an income. 1:04:01 As time has gone on, my road has gotten narrower on what I can do or can live with or can’t live with. 01:05:00“The goal is to get back to that innocence of what’s really f*cking important.” 11:58“As good as the effects are physically [of steroids] that people can see, the psychological effects you can multiply by ten.” 27:26 -Tony“It’s crazy the lengths we’ll go to to not feel.” 30:10“For us to really be willing to do whatever it takes to change our lives sometimes it requires such levels of pain that most people would never talk about, let alone ever wish to experience.” 33:10“I could watch [the pills] slipping out of the bottle, into the air, into the water, into the toilet dissolving because they’re made of gelatin, and I remember the two words that I said to myself—“I’m done.” 36:47 -Tony“I looked at my wife and said, ‘the fun is over. THE TWO VIDEOS FOR THIS ONE WOULD BE HELPFUL: https://youtu.be/K7N1TxJm17k https://youtu.be/BSAEidhkFcU In this lesson, Dan talks pedals and pedalboards.  We take a tour round his board and a small tour round mine too.  Then we examine the question (from the perspective of a beginner) of what pedal someone could start out with.  Dan also gives his wisdom on some ways which you can keep in mind the big picture (perhaps of a pedalboard) and get the pedals which are the most useful. There’s a really big section in which Dan walks me through what the different uses of the Strymon Timeline are and also regularly demonstrates a wide range of pedals with examples. 00:00:33 Start of main lesson 00:02:11 Using the Timeline - set to Pink Floyd Run Like Hell 00:03:19 Timeline setting - Reverse Delay 00:04:30 Timeline setting for Purple Rain 00:05:12 With a lighter chorus sound 00:05:29 Ducking delay 00:05:50 Clean boost 00:06:27 Different boosts 00:06:52 Wah wah pedal on 00:07:19 Sweep Filter 00:07:43 With compression 00:08:00 Octave pedal effect 00:08:28 Delay for Pink Floyd's - Another Brick in the Wall 00:13:15 Dan playing through my pedalboard 00:13:30 Corona TC Electronic Chorus 00:14:11 Increasing the depth 00:14:26 Delay Boss DSD3 00:15:21 Sampler? 00:15:34 Boss compressor CS3 00:16:34 Using a compressor pedal as a clean boost 00:17:05 Boss Overdrive OD3 00:17:32 A little trick is to leave the drive down and use the level as a boost 00:18:11 Reverb HOF mini 00:18:47 Boss GE7 Equaliser 00:20:06 Stripping it back to beginner level 00:20:29 Running with the question - what pedal ought I buy? 00:20:40 The 'ice' delay setting - pitch shifted delay 00:24:09 Srtymon - Timeline 00:25:22 Timeline: The Wall 00:25:54 Timeline: Always 00:26:43 Timeline: Ice 00:26:49 Timeline: Duck 00:27:14 Timeline: Purple Rain 00:28:09 Timeline: Streets have no name 00:28:52 Timeline: Reverse delay 00:29:34 Timeline: Tape delay (slapback rock and roll) 00:30:10 Timeline: multi-tap (run like hell) 00:30:55 Dan's tips on what pedals to buy 00:31:18 Tremolo - slapback delay (50s) 00:31:30 Less delay, wah wah and fuzz (60s) 00:31:56 Analog delays and chorus (70s) 00:32:52 Chorus and big delay (80s) 00:34:50 Into the Great Wide Open through the looper as a basis for a jam track 00:37:54 First pedal for Dan would be an overdrive 00:41:01 Explanation of overdrive 00:44:27 A good idea for a second pedal - a clean boost 00:44:49 On a clean channel - take into a solo 00:47:37 On a drive setting - a similar application shows the difference in lift 00:50:15 Buffered vs true bypass 00:55:37 Another great pedal is a wah wah 01:01:18 Next suggestion is a compressor 01:03:07 Good for Country music 01:03:46 Using a slight driven sound the compressor sustains the notes 01:06:11 Next type of pedal we discuss is a phaser 01:07:18 Using a phaser on Money (Pink Floyd) 01:08:05 You do something to me - Paul Weller 01:10:12 Another pedal to consider is a flanger 01:11:44 Next pedal is a chorus 01:13:02 Demo - chorus 01:14:18 Tremolo effect 01:17:27 Dan explains how he practically uses his board live 01:20:01 What is delay? I decided to theme 2020: unleash your inner power. Even though we can reassess ourselves at any time, to me this beginning of the new year feels like the perfect time to set my intentions of what kind of life I want to live and love. A time to live in my truth, speak up, advocate for what I stand for, embrace my full-self and share my gift to the world. In this episode, I exchange with Tedx talk speaker Janine Esbrand, a woman who stepped into HER power which improved her life to have it all. She is the hero of many career-driven women who find themselves overwhelmed, feeling unprepared for their new position or career, and often are at a crossroads between their own well-being, being present in their own personal lives and delivering high-quality work. She decided to trade her prestigious position with becoming a consultant lawyer and building her own business. Giving her the flexibility to focus on expanding her career as a coach so she could share her experience and efficient tools with other women transitioning to a consequential life shift. Fully embracing and unleashing her inner power actually led her to live a life in which she does everything she loves and has fun while doing so. Her work helps those women live more consciously in a way that they find balance in their lives. Janine created a beautiful supportive community of women who are living a life they chose. Today Janine and I talk about limiting beliefs, getting your power back, positive thinking, manifesting your goals into reality, finding your tribe, shining in your uniqueness and more.Listen to this gem!Namaste listeners,M-//GROW by learning - IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: Limiting beliefs Finding your power aligned with the new youPositive thinking: seeing the glass half fullManifesting your goals into your reality through intention Finding your tribeInspiring others by shining in your uniqueness And so much more …CONNECT With JANINEWebsite: https://www.lightboxcoaching.com/Tedx Talk “The key ingredient to your career success”: https://youtu.be/YJGOWPMY1V8Podcast Career Beyond Motherhood: https://www.lightboxcoaching.com/podcast/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/CoachingwithLightbox/IG: https://www.instagram.com/careersbeyondmotherhood/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/janineesbrand/ CONNECT WITH ME Website: www.wahayu.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/wahayu.agency/ FB: https://www.linkedin.com/company/wahayuagencyShow your love for the podcast by leaving a review and following our socials. Luke 2:40–52     40The child [Jesus] grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.     41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44but supposing him to be in the group they went a day’s journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.     52And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

What kind of framework and research do we need to build a strong cannabis sector? This week we're joined by Don Bellamy, experienced Life Sciences Executive who has worked in the healthcare industry for 27 years across pharmaceutical companies such as Novatis and AstraZeneca, and for Canopy Growth - the largest cannabis company in the world.Don shares his perspectives from the world of Big Pharma and Big Canna, as we investigate further into regulatory frameworks within the industry, rules & regulations, and the troubles we face harvesting reliable data. Episode SummaryDon has been in the healthcare industry for 27 years, working for big pharma in a variety of different roles across the world As his career developed, he saw the industry change around him and started to feel like his passion wasn't there anymore.Don went on to work within smaller pharma and biotech which he found more fulfilling. Two and a half years ago, Canopy Growth offered him work within the cannabis space. Don became very convinced that the industry had huge potential and that there was a job to be done - to be able to help patients.Don describes his time at Canopy Growth as a ‘great starting point' for his work within the industry.Don suggests that in broad terms, the North Americans are more relaxed about regulation and more liberal about the use of cannabis within a wellness and a recreational environment. In Canada, there is more of an active debate around how cannabis should be used. There are more doctors in Canada who are willing to give cannabis a go - who by doing so have discovered new things about the way in which they should prescribe it and its applications. In the UK, none of the political parties have spoken about cannabis in any sense within their manifestos. This is a stark difference to Canada, where Justin Trudeau who set out to legalise cannabis and followed through on his claim.Don would like to see approaches to cannabis coming firstly from a medical point of view, with education and understanding being taught to us, just like alcohol. The majority of cannabis companies are start ups and do not have access to large amounts of data which can be used to back up claims. Don suggests that if a product was conceived which mixed cannabinoids with opiates, it may be a significant way of reducing opiate load. He suggests that the reason this doesn't already exist is that big pharma do not take cannabis seriously enough as it is plant based. While working for Canopy Growth In Canada, Don noticed the opportunity to use cannabinoids in tertiary care was huge. Older people in care homes respond very well to low dose cannabinoids, they feel more energised, they sleep better, and are more social as a result.QuotablesThere are very few truly global cannabis companies 4:58There is definitely a different approach to regulating and creating a market for cannabis in Europe compared to Canada and many US states 7:40In Europe, there is a concern (around cannabis) which is born out of the way of European thinking - this has to be understood, this has to be regulated. 2:26All North American producers can learn significantly from having to meet higher standards which Europe is going to impose 8:40The search for data isn't moving as fast as it should do in the cannabis worldAs with everything in cannabis, everything is country by country - things are emerging at different rates. Big pharma is unsure whether cannabis is a friend or foe 13:58ResourcesJoin Don on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/don-bellamy-3907a65/

This week, we bring you the second of two shows we'd recorded live at Wordstock, Portland's book festival. It's sparkling hour with three witty truth-tellers. But first, we wanted to check in: how're you feeling after the election. Artists Respond to TrumpPortland hip-hop sensation Aminé hit the stage of "The Tonight Show" Tuesday, adding some politics to his viral song “Caroline”: "You can never make American great again / All you did is make this country hate again." His voice joined the chorus of artists protesting in the streets, making visual art about the election, and other kinds of work. In fact, many Oregon artists are rethinking what their work has to say in a divisive political season. We check in with a few of them.Maria Semple - 6:40The world of Maria Semple's imagination is a glowing place. Her characters rocket off on madcap adventures; they collide at high speed; they teeter on the edge of emotional cliffhangers. Some passages crackle with the comedic snap she honed writing for TV shows like “Arrested Development” and "Mad About You," but at the center of her stories are quiet emotional truths. Semple’s last novel was the New York Times best-seller “Where’d You Go, Bernadette?” — a merry chase on the trail of a formidable heroine. This year she’s back with another kind of caper, "Today Will Be Different.”Alexander Chee - 21:28Alexander Chee’s new book, “The Queen of the Night,” is a waltz through a kaleidoscopic 19th-century world of opera, romance and intrigue that the New York Times called a "post modern bodice ripper." It follow the journey of a 19th-century American girl from a circus to a brothel to the service of France's empress to the glamorous life of a star soprano. Chee tells us how he interwove his own characters with historic giants of France’s Second Empire, like Verdi, famous courtesans and the Emperor Napoleon the Third, as well as his own journey from boy soprano to novelist.Rabih Alameddine - 34:48Rabih Alameddine possesses the kind of multifaceted mind we all aspire to. His career has spanned engineering, painting, and writing, and his six books keenly bridge the Middle East and the West, religion and sexuality, history and pop culture. In "The Angel of History," Alameddine mixes many different currents to tell the story of a young Yemini-born gay man who weathers San Francisco’s AIDS epidemic through an unusual relationship with Satan and a gaggle of saints. Alameddine talks about the gray areas between good and evil, Satan as a protagonist, and the importance of remembering the past, particularly the hardest moments, in order to move into the future.
