Tony grew up as a “tall, skinny, freckled kid” in Sunderland and went from being picked on at school to boxing for Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Much of Tony's success was down to his father's encouragement and insistence that he train and develop his boxing skills. When Tony eventually won his Olympic medal, the first person he would thank would be his father. http://ourvoicespodcast.com/ (Check out our website for the latest from Our Voices) We're also on https://www.facebook.com/ourvoicesinthenhs (Facebook), https://twitter.com/OurVoices14 (Twitter) and https://www.instagram.com/ourvoicespod/ (Instagram) A https://fascinateproductions.co.uk/ (Fascinate) Production Support this podcast

Today we are joined by the pioneer of the Jobs-to-be-Done (JTBD) theory, the inventor of the Outcome-Driven Innovation (ODI) process, and the founder of Strategyn, Tony Ulwick. When Tony was working as a manufacturing engineer for IBM in the 1980s, the company launched their PC Junior product. The colossal and expensive flop of this product led to Tony's interest in product planning and the goal of his career to develop an innovation process that would prevent or mitigate the risk of failure. As someone who has become a world-renowned expert on innovation, today he joins us to discuss some of the problems companies face in their innovation initiatives. We talk about the challenges of understanding the needs of customers in a b2b context, how different methodologies such as Jobs-to-be-Done, Agile, Lean, and Design Thinking fit into the product life cycle, and the need for a unified innovation language across your company. Listen in to find out what the three most important things are that a company needs to be in alignment on, as well as Tony's advice to anyone new to the Jobs-to-be-Done framework. Tony Hughes points out that we live in a digital-first world. 2020 was a catalyst for accelerating what people are describing as the 4th industrial revolution. He emphasizes that “There's timeless principles of selling that we need to adapt as we modernize the way that we engage clients.” One of the big trends is that companies are shifting resources from field selling to using the tech stack to sell digitally. So how can you drive change in a digital world? How do you excel with digital selling? Tony Hughes shares his take in this episode of Sales Reinvented! Outline of This Episode [1:11] Digital and social selling  [3:41] How to improve your digital selling  [7:35] Tony's digital selling blueprint [9:46] Attributes that lead to greatness [12:19] Tools + techniques + strategies [16:46] Top 3 digital selling dos and don'ts [19:27] Tony demonstrates the power of connections How to improve your digital selling  Most buyer's journeys begin in their trusted online network. They seek social proof for the things that they're looking at purchasing. Tony was talking to a group of 18 CEOs about modernizing the way they sell. One was the CEO in Australia for a North American company that sells into the pharmacy industry. The two highest-performing territories in North America didn't have salespeople in them for four months out of the year. This company had been convinced that they needed to maintain mindshare with pharmacists. When they interviewed the pharmacists and business owners they found some interesting things.  Firstly, the pharmacists noted that when the reps called on them, it took them away from serving customers. Secondly, they thought the information being shared with them was just marketing material that they'd rather get in an email or snail mail. The only thing the buyer valued is that they were getting a great price. So this company decided to run some testing in Australia, removing their reps completely. The business has never been stronger. Tony's point? The belief that bots can never replace you is nonsense.  Tony's digital selling blueprint Tony believes that any blueprint has to begin with understanding your ideal customer profile. You need to think about their: Firmographics: What is their vertical? How big are they? Where are they located? Technographics: What are the attributes of the organizations? What is their competition? Psychographics: Are they in a growth mindset? Are they in crisis? Do they outsource? Are they trying to innovate and disrupt the market?  Companies with a growth mindset are the most likely to purchase.  Then you need to look at the buyer personas—those that say “yes” or form a consensus. You then build the conversation narrative. Once you do that, you need to map the buyer's journey and go and be where they are. It will certainly include social media, but it will be in other places as well. You move away from the “us” narrative because no one wants to hear it. You need to lead with a narrative about how they can drive improved results in their role. If you do all of that well, they'll want to understand why you would be the best solution for them.  What three attributes does Tony believe lead to greatness? Listen to find out! Tools + techniques + strategies Tony recommends that you look at the tech stack that you've got. How can you use what you already have? Would your boss say you're a good user of CRM? Do you capture meeting notes, build a dashboard, and identify the next best actions to take?  Secondly, use the sales intelligence tools available to you, such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator. You can also build searches that monitor for trigger events within your customer base as well as your ICPs and buyer personas within the marketplace.  Can you do pragmatic research? Are you using sales intelligence tools that get you emails and phone numbers? Tony believes the fastest path—and highest probability to a new sale—is when you can provide relevance and context through a trusted relationship and a trigger event. Listen to learn what Tony does with this.  Listen to find out what Tony's top digital selling dos and don'ts are—some might surprise you! The power of connection A great friend of Tony's is a CEO who just took a role with a new company. As they were talking over breakfast, Tony offered to introduce someone who would be a good fit as a client. When Tony's friend posted a LinkedIn update about his new role, he liked it, commented, and shared it. He tagged the name of the person he thought would be a good client and said “You two should get together.” This person responded within five minutes and messaged Tony's friend.  Connect with Tony Hughes Connect on LinkedIn Follow on Twitter Connect With Paul Watts  LinkedIn Twitter  Subscribe to SALES REINVENTED Audio Production and Show notes by PODCAST FAST TRACK https://www.podcastfasttrack.com

BUILDING A TIME MACHINE IS SURPRISINGLY SIMPLE. HOWEVER, TIME TRAVEL IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. In 2015 Tony Carpenter stumbled upon the plans for the Chronocar, a time machine conceived before it could be built by Dr. Simmie Johnson, genius, scientist, and son of a slave. Tony's visit to 1919 to see the doctor and his lovely daughter Ollie turned into disaster, forcing the doctor to make a most difficult final decision. Now the timeline has worked its way back to 2012. A new Tony Carpenter is about to be hit by a real blast from the past when he chances upon Dr. Johnson's granddaughter, who has a story he can hardly believe and evidence of a journey to the past he can't deny. Tony Lynch is the Founder of the Memories of Us nonprofit, a supportive place for men in grief. Men are traditionally shown over and over in society that they can not be vulnerable. This negatively affects our communities. After experiencing devastating loss, Tony was on the brink of suicide. It took a spiritual awakening for him to get out of it. Tony shares what he was going through mentally when he was in grief, and he didn't even realize it had gotten so bad until it was almost too late.   Key Takeaways: Tony hit rock bottom in his life after the loss of several people in his life, including his son. He was ready for suicide. Men are told to ‘suck it up' and keep moving. Men do grief differently. Tony tried to put himself through physically gruelling experiences to see if he could die. Men don't like being vulnerable. So, physical pain is used as a way to keep their mind off of their true emotional pain. Tony lost everyone he cared about at 26 years old. Life sucked. He knew it would be better to just leave this world. As Tony was sitting alone ready to commit suicide, he heard his name call out in the distance, but no one was there. This woke him up. He knows it was a spiritual intervention. If you want your men to be good men, you have to have open communication with them. Don't be ashamed to share who you are with someone else. Grief gets trapped inside us and it has nowhere else to go if you don't deal with it head-on. How did Tony take this grief and empower his community? Tony's nonprofit shows men that it's okay to grieve. Men don't talk. By not talking, you're stuck. Your family wants to help you, but they don't know what to do. When Tony lost his child, he stopped talking about it to other people. He didn't want people to know what he was going through. It's so easy to feel completely numb to the pain. But if you don't deal with your ‘stuff', it WILL come around and bite you. You are important. You have someone in your corner. Reach out to Tony for support. Tony offers advice to a man in grief right now.   Resources: Tony on LinkedIn Memories of Us Podcast

If you met Tony Fornaro in his 20's or 30's, you would have met a completely different person than the Tony of today. When Tony reflects on his 20's and 30's, he's the first to say he was honestly, a total a$$hole. He had a series of relationships and each one didn't end so well. But this is all in retrospect...at the time, he thought he was a pretty good, normal guy. He had a well paying job, on paper he was "adulting" but he never really felt like an adult. He was just going through the motions. Every relationship blew up in disaster, and eventually in his mid-30's, he sought the help of a therapist. He also started to travel internationally. This is when he was able to see life from a different perspective, to self-reflect, to question his behaviors and dig deeper into past trauma in order to become more self aware. Finally, he made the decision to quit life in the US and move to Vietnam at the age of 41. What happened? Tony Copeland-Parker was a professional pilot/manager for 37 years. When he retired, he began writing his blog, PlayHard-HaveFun.com. Since then, he and his partner Catherine have traveled to 82 different countries. They have run at least a half-marathon in thirty-five countries and on all seven continents.   When Tony and his partner Catherine were in their 50’s, they found that he needed a heart-valve replacement, and she had early-onset Alzheimer’s. They both had a history as endurance athletes, so their reaction to the news was to sell their home, retire from their jobs, and become nomads, running marathons and half- marathons all over the world.   “It's amazing the number of conversations that we've had with folks where you will be sitting around the table, talking, and they start to notice something a bit odd, you know, about Catherine,” Tony explains. “So she just straight-up says, ‘I just want you to know I've early onset dementia and I might be a bit confused when you ask me a question.’ The conversation then turns to others talking about their aunt, uncle, mother, or sister who has dementia. This disease permeates throughout society.”   Many people with early onset are in their 40s and 50s. They have families, careers, or are even caregivers themselves when Alzheimer's disease strikes.   “A lot of people look at early onset Alzheimer's as a death sentence. But they are forgetting about the 12 years or so that they are going to have after the diagnosis. Catherine’s been like this for seven years, and you know, she's going be around for quite a while,” Tony says. “I've heard that she's probably going to die from something else, so we might as well just go ahead and make the best of it, and that's what we're trying to do.”   Don't forget to subscribe, download, and review to share your thoughts about the show!   To find out more about Bobbi and Mike or the inspiration behind this podcast, Rodger That, head over to rodgerthat.show.

This is a conversation filled with wisdom, history and persistence. Tony Reed takes us back to how his childhood commitment to 3 miles a day (running, walking or crawling) as a way to beat his pre-diabetes prognosis ignited within him a life-long love of the sport. In this episode Tony embodies the growth we can achieve if we have the courage to pursue our dreams and challenge ourselves along the way. He shares about his story as a runner parent and his experiences in the corporate world. Tony is someone with incredible wisdom about what it takes to work hard toward something you believe in, even it’s the least traveled path.   Tony was first Black runner in the world to finish marathons on all of the continents, including Antarctica. He is one of fifty people worldwide, who completed the marathon “hat trick” which consists of finishing (1) at least 100 marathons,(2)a marathon on all seven continents, and (3) a marathon in each of the fifty States. He is also the co-founder and executive director of the National Black Marathoners Association.      In this episode we cover…  Running marathons was secondary to Tony. He shares he started running and walking 3 miles a day after learning he was pre-diabetic and that exercise might help. He’s kept his commitment to 3 miles a day throughout his life.[29:15] Tony has run 131 marathons. He shares that it’s easy for people’s initial reaction to be in awe, but he reminds us that it took him 40 years. We so often look at the snapshot but we don't look at either what goes behind the scenes or how long it took. [07:20] His my mother introduced Tony and his brother to collecting postage stamps, which sparked a love of travel.“Our mission was to see the world, it was to get out of the project, was to get out of the ghetto and literally to travel to see the entire world.” [29:30] Music is part of Tony’s running. He shares that with every marathon he picks a theme song in his head and has songs associated with all the marathons. “At the Hartford, Connecticut Marathon we had 5.5 inches of rain during the race. I found myself singing the lyrics to Parliament’s Aqua Boogie funk song…And so he talks about dancing underwater without getting wet. And I visualized myself running this marathon and the raindrops were partying.”[14:23] Tony says there’s something in his mind about not wanting to run the perfect race. So during the Dallas White Rock Marathon he had a mile and a half left when he realized he hadn’t stopped to walk the entire race. So, he stopped and walked 25 yards then he picked it back up. [16:55] When Tony started running marathons, social media wasn’t around so there was no way of finding out how to run a marathon. During his quest for information, he discovered Ted Corbitt and his accomplishments. After learning Ted Corbitt was Black, Tony decided to find a way to recognize the accomplishments of Black distance runners so he co-founded the National Black Distance Running Fall of Fame in 2013. Marilyn Bevans and Ted Cobitt were the first to be inducted. (Bevans was recently interviewed an episode of Running Realized)  [21:40] Ted Corbitt is actually the person who came up with the concept of the five borough race in New York City. He was also one of the first presidents of the New York Road Runners Club, as well as for the Road Runners Club of America. He was the first Black runner on the Olympic marathon team in 1952, and was an ultra runner. He is the person that they generally call the father of distance running in the U. S. [21:40] National Black Marathoners Association is working to plant seeds to improve distance running for Blacks throughout the country including scholarships and mentoring  One other project is getting Ted Corbitt on a national stamp. You join in supporting this initiative on here. [59:50] Tony shares that he hopes the pandemic is giving people an opportunity to reflect on why they run. Are they running for the medals? Are they running for their health? Are they running to relieve stress? “I like to say one of the things that running taught me was to go through to a self-analysis to look at my weak points.  So again looking at what is a real or perceived weakness and then doing something to prove that this is indeed a strength." In this episode, we have invited Tony Martignetti, a leadership coach specialized in working with leaders and their teams to navigate the transition and unleash their true potential. Tony is known to help leaders seek clarity to be energized, unstoppable, and lead with a powerful presence. Today, Tony shares his gained lessons to unlock people’s true potential, positively impact and fuel their inspiration. Tony’s Podcast [1:06] Tony felt like everything comes from this place of trying to connect with what lights people up and inspiration is the word he felt like using to connect with that [1:18] The podcast, Virtual Campfire, came from this idea of wanting people to come together, sharing honest, really authentic stories about transformation along their path. Tony originally had this idea as people coming together, not a podcast; it would be something where people in a room are sharing around a theoretical campfire, warm, inviting stories shared in person. Journey of Transformation [2:50] Tony loved creating rooms that were filled with emotions or feelings that people could experience. He was creative as a child, but along his journey, he started being told by adults that he needed to do something that was more in line with how to make of living, and make a living through art was hard. [3:48] Along his journey, he realized that he wasn’t doing his soul’s purpose. Despite many great achievements, he felt that something was missing. Creative Outlet [5:25] Tony was an artist who loved to draw and paint. His crafts were mostly about environments and the worlds. Being artistic, Tony saw this as an ability to see things differently and continuing to enhance this ability. [6:20] He applied his talent in art to help people to see themselves differently and to be able to craft messages that connect with people in a way that says I can see the world differently for you. Living the Best Out of Life [9:21] Life is a piece of art, and you want to make it a masterpiece. [10:17] Tony wanted to look at his problem differently. Thus, he had a convergence of ideas where people can have different perspectives even if only having one body. Mindset [13:02] When Tony started thinking negatively, that thought pattern starts to diminish your ability to create what you want. [13:25] What he always does when in this situation, he often takes it as a coaching question. He finds the reason why he should keep moving forward. [17:55] Tony emphasizes the need to surround yourself with the right environment to nurture. Environment pertains to the people that surround you. You want to make sure you’re in an environment that nurtures you and does not starve you. Advices [19:40] Tony was often asked for advice by people who wanted to enhance their work and leadership skills but were unsure what they desired. [20:15] His goal was to find out the underlying desire as to what drives people. This concludes with them having a different perspective as to where they are headed. Tony finds happiness when people start shifting into a new direction where your goal becomes more real. Healing [23:08] When Tony started his podcast, he discovered what's it like to dwell on people's stories and realize that one of the things he needed most was to deal with his own story and own his story. [23:42] Your past could sometimes hold you back from being that full person you could be. To move forward, you must acknowledge and embrace it and use it to move forward.   Follow Asia Instagram: @asia.takara Facebook: @asiaatakara Clubhouse @asiatakara   Follow Tony Podcast: The Virtual Campfire Podcast https://thevirtualcampfire.libsyn.com/ Instagram: @inspiredpurposecoach

Tony Waller is the Vice President of Constituent Relations and Racial Equity at Walmart, the host of Walmart’s Real Talk At The Barber Shop and currently spearheading several campaigns surrounding the company’s commitment to community wellness, health and racial equity. Tony was born in the U.S. but raised in Puerto Rico. His family moved back to the states when he was a teenager where he experienced his first real experiences with race. He shares his struggles to fit in and the importance of taking care of one’s mental health. Tony also shares the great opportunity he received from retail giant Walmart to really make a difference in communities of color. Tony talks about Walmart’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, and their program, Mejor Contigo, “Better with you” which highlights Latino success stories inside and outside of the company. Tony is a larger than life personality with such a smart and unique perspective in which he sees the world. I think you will really enjoy this episode and listening to Tony speak as much as I have. This episode is sponsored by Walmart.   Key Takeaways “It’s important to be comfortable with who you are.” When Tony moved from Puerto Rico to the mainland, he was not prepared for the     racial differences and the questions people would ask him. People had a hard time figuring out Tony’s background. He didn’t feel like he fit in. High School was one of the hardest times of Tony’s life, but he’s grateful for it. Therapy is so important for our mental well-being. We go to the dentist and the doctor, why not also go to a therapist to get your head checked too? Call out to parents: “Allow your children to grow and make mistakes.” What is the Mejor Contigo program about? We still have a lot of problems in this world, but the younger generation is going to help us bridge the gap and help us solve some of those problems. A lot of the innovative ideas Walmart has, come from Walmart employee associates. Why are diversity and inclusion so important to Walmart? Tony shares what Walmart is up to and their focus for the years ahead to better the lives of their staff.   Continue On Your Journey Tony on Twitter Tony on Instagram WALMART WALMART Instagram   JRmartinez.com J.R. on Instagram J.R. on Facebook J.R. on Twitter J.R. When Tony found out about some of the atrocities happening daily, and what is planned for us all in the long run he immediately sprung into action, like so many other amazing souls do when they go first go down the rabbit hole. He wanted EVERYONE to know what he had found out, and he thought they would listen. Through years of research, Tony came across what true alchemy is, and that is if we are to progress in anything in life and better ourselves either both individually or collectively its important to face the negatives square in the face, and then TRANSCEND them into positives. He is not saying dwell in them, that is counter productive. But like true warriors face the challenge head on, no matter how hard the road looks. Only then will we see permanent, long lasting change. And it is so very achievable. Its a great time to be alive, there is more change happening on the Planet now than ever before as we move into these ‘transcending times’. Marvel's Avengers Video Game Complete Review

Two weeks ago, I gave my "way too early" review of the new Avengers game, but now that I've finished the campaign, I'm back with a complete review! By the way, Yusuf "Abu" Khan is voice by Brian George. Rough Transcript:Now that I’ve completed the campaign for Marvel’s Avengers, as well as quite a few missions for the Avengers Initiative, I feel ready to give a complete review of the game.  My non-spoiler review: the ending is very strong, and the game really opens up. SPOILERS below! ----more----While I was mostly positive in my review for the early stages of the game, I was still a little unsure about some key points, namely the heavy focus on Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel). However, after finishing the campaign, I can say that nearly every concern either went away or turned into a strength. Let’s start out with Kamala. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt because she wasn’t a character I knew, they focused on her early in the game after teasing us with the “classic” Avengers, and because I think they made her a bit too naïve. All that being said, she has two huge moments in the last half of the campaign that really sold me. The first is when she finds the clue from Monica’s interrogation, then has J.A.R.V.I.S. accidentally call her father, Yusuf. This scene has to work, and it does. First off, Brian George (the voice of Yusuf) gives an incredible performance here with only his voice. He conveys so much emotion on that call (not an easy thing to do when it’s only you talking), and it’s all believable. Then, the other important part is Kamala, a video game character, having to show just as much emotion while only using her animated face. The developers really outdid themselves with this scene, and I basically forgot it was a video game. Sandra Saad, the actress and breakout star who portrays Kamala, also deserves praise for the motion capture work and heartbreaking “love you more” just after the call ends. Kamala’s second big moment comes immediately after, and it’s the speech she gives to the Avengers about how they still inspire people, and that the world still needs them. Usually, I find these types of speeches/moments cheesy, but this felt earned and like it really fit the moment. And, of course, it helps lead to the emotional moment where all of the Avengers (minus Captain America) reunite. That clue that Kamala finds is a lead to finding Steve Rogers (aka Captain America), though they don’t know it yet, and that’s where the entire tone and momentum of the story shift. When Tony finds Cap, his emotion feels very real, and it’s shared by the entire team when he and Cap return to Earth (after a sequence that was incredibly similar to the opening scene of Avengers: Endgame, with Tony being saved from suffocation in space, except this time it’s Thor who saves him instead of Captain Marvel). When Cap is finally back, he takes control and steals the show, much like Chris Evans’ version. He’s a constant source of encouragement, defiance, and resolve. As expected, he makes a couple of signature “Cap speeches” that I would, again, normally find cheesy. However, the Avengers are pretty down on their luck at this point, so the speeches feel relevant, timely, and earned. I have to give it to the team/developers a lot of credit again since I could literally feel the energy and vibe shift when Steve Rogers rejoins the fight, which isn’t something that happens a lot in video games. In terms of big picture stuff, the frame rate drop issues happens quite frequently still. It’s not very often, but just a couple of times of going from frames per second to frames per minute will make you cringe. Story-wise, I think the campaign is just about the right length. It’s not too short that it only feels like a tacked-on tutorial, but it’s nowhere near Red Dead length, for example. Now, I'm not sure if I'm going to go back and play it in like a New Game+ scenario. That's where the Avengers Initiative comes in nicely, which is the post-campaign prologue/online elemental of the game. This is where I actually really have to give credit to Square Enix because there are some games where they’re just clearly a money grab, but this doesn't feel like that. I really like the touch that you can play with CPU characters; you don't have to online matchmake or anything like that, and that's for a couple of reasons. Number one, you don't have to play online with other people if you don't want to, and I'm one that usually tends not to, but it's also good for just the longevity of the game. When the servers stop and you can't matchmake with anyone online anymore, you'll still be able to play the game because they'll just be CPU players. Speaking of that, I am super impressed that the CPU characters feel so real in. They’re decision making is smart and does feel real; pretty much just as good as having a real person there. One other thing I forgot to mention: in my first review, I said that I didn't know how I felt about fighting robots a lot of the time. Playing more, I realized that there's actually more humans than I remembered. By the same token, there's a lot of different types of robots and it's really no different than Batman fighting a ton of the same thugs in like Arkham Knight or something like that. In that game, there are like four or five player models in that one, tops, for the thugs, so that's really no different than robots. The one last thing that I'm not sure how to feel about is that I saw this joke and I can’t unsee it: the character models in this game for the Avengers like Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff are basically the stunt double versions of the MCU versions. They're a little bit different, a little bit tweaked… but still. Granted, it's tough because you have to choose: do you want to copy them exactly, or do you want to make it your own? However, it seems like they settled on this weird in-between where they didn't quite know what they wanted to do. It's not distracting or anything, and If I hadn't heard the talk about it at the time of the trailer release, I wouldn't thought anything about it, but now that I heard that and saw that, I can't unsee it. My final thoughts: like I said, it’s a very strong finish to the game. The game opens up a lot because you have more players to choose from, obviously, so you don't have to just play as Kamala or the Hulk. I still can't believe how the game turns around when Steve re-enters the fight, like you can just feel it; it's just incredible for a video game. Definitely go out and buy this one. It's a lot of fun, you can play for hours, there's a lot of post-campaign content, and there's going to be even more with DLC's and stuff like that. So yeah, go out and get this one. It's a good one. This is Marvel's Avengers and I'd say it gets an “A” rating for sure.  This is a review of Marvel's Avengers (2020) from Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix. Clips are used for review purposes, as is Alan Silvestri's "Avengers Theme". ONCE UPON A GENE - EPISODE 041 Time is Brain: SYNGAP Research Fund with Mike Graglia Bo Bigelow and Daniel DeFabio have started a TV channel called The Disorder Channel where you can see all their rare stories in one place. You can access the channel with a Roku or Amazon Fire TV Stick. I had the honor and opportunity to narrate one of these films, The Foundations of Rare: The SYNGAP Research Fund and that’s how I connected with my next guest. Mike Graglia is a dad on a mission. His son is one of around 600 patients born with SYNGAP1, a rare neurological disease. Like many other rare disorders, like CTNNB1, SYNGAP1 affects the production of a protein. It's considered a spectrum disorder because all patients aren't affected the same way or to the same severity. After attending a Global Genes conference, Mike and his wife Ashley were inspired to turn hope into action and they founded the SYNGAP Research Fund. Their sole mission is funding research science for SYNGAP1.  EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Can you tell us about Tony's rare disease and how it affects him? Tony has a SYNGAP1 mutation, affecting about 550 kids in the world that we know about. The gene was first discovered 20 years ago and the first diagnosis came 10 years ago, so most patients are under 10. SYNGAP1 is one of the many vital proteins in the brain and kids with SYNGAP1 have half as many proteins as they need. One copy of their genes has a typo and doesn't produce the protein. Tony has autism, sleep disorders, behaviors, seizures and intellectual disability.  When did you get Tony's diagnosis? Tony has a long list of diagnoses. SYNGAP1 kids either show up shortly after the age of 1 if they have severe delays and good doctors who perform genetic testing or at the age of 3 or 4 when they start having seizures. When Tony was 3, his delays were undeniable and we started therapy and we started seeing seizures, which led to an epilepsy diagnosis and then genetic testing. That's when we realized Tony had a SYNGAP1 variant.  When did you and Ashley decide to take action and do something when no one else was? We were introduced to Daniel Lowenstein who is the Vice Chair UCSF. He was patient with us, sending us to people he's worked with like Annapurna Poduri at Boston Children's who runs epilepsy genetics and Rick Huganir, an anchor scientist for our community and the Head of Neuroscience at Hopkins. We learned from them that SYNGAP is important and that we were lucky as a community to already have strong scientists. There was a lot of good research happening, a lot of open questions and that science was changing really fast. It was reasonable to hope that something could come along in a time frame that mattered to Tony. I wanted science to be working on a way to help Tony. Ashley and I decided to start a fund focused on investing in science. There were already smaller advocacy groups, but none funding the science.  Can you tell me about your mission of collaboration, transparency and urgency? Collaboration is about working together. We're aware that even if we raise $1-2M, it's not enough and we have to work across the parents community, scientific industry and industry to get this done. Collaboration has to be at the heart of what we do every step of the way. Transparency is about sharing information because you can't keep up in this highly-complicated space if you're not sharing as much as possible. Everything we can share is on our website for everyone's benefit. Urgency is simple- time is brain. Tony is 6 and I started this when he was 4. What I'm hearing is that we may have therapies by the time he's 11. Time is brain and we cannot waste time.  What would you tell a parent who is motivated and inspired to do something like what you're doing? The smartest thing Ashley and I did was to ask a lot of questions. Decide who your team is going to be and who you can learn from. Bring your community along and encourage them to support funding. Keep asking questions and keep building a team that can help get things done. Your energy and time is precious, so don't invest either until you understand how it's going to make a difference.  LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED SYNGAP Research Fund Website https://syngapresearchfund.org/ SYNGAP Research Fund Blog https://syngapresearchfund.org/syngapblog SRF - SynGAP Research Fund, Inc. After serving in the Amphibious Reconnaissance in the Marine Corps, Tony Molina met Valerie, and together they participated in the Discovery Channel's Eco Challenges. These Eco Challenges consisted of racing non-stop, 24 hours a day, over a rugged 300-mile course, participating in such disciplines as trekking, whitewater canoeing, horseback riding, sea kayaking, scuba diving, mountaineering, camel-back riding, and mountain biking. As part of these races, Tony ended up in the jungles of South-East Asia. There, he got incredibly sick with some sort of tropical disease. When Tony arrived at the V.A. Hospital, no one could make sense of what he had. As such they flew in a tropical disease specialist who told Tony that he had one of three diseases:1. Rabies. The tropical disease specialist hoped it wasn't this because if it was then Tony was going to die.2. Malaria. The tropical disease specialist hoped it wasn't malaria because if it was then there was nothing medically interesting about Tony's illness.3. Leptospirosis. The tropical disease specialist hoped it was this because that would make Tony only the second known case on US soil of this disease and the doctorcould certainly write up a paper about this. The tropical disease specialist got his wish. Tony had leptospirosis. Fortunately, the tropical disease specialist's paper had a happy ending because Tony survived. However, although Tony survived, he was left with a series of lingering medical issues. In 2015, poor control of my diabetes left me legally blind for the better part of a year. The doctors predicted an 80% chance I would never see again, but I changed the way I was living and through sheer willpower beat the odds. During this time I couldn't read or write. Two things that I had been turning to for comfort since I was a small child. With the sheer amount of stress I was under, this was devastating. My wife took me by the arm, lead me into the local library, and read out titles of audiobooks to me. I chose the audiobook versions of books I had loved such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter and more. They brought my favorite stories to life in ways I never thought possible and helped me through the darkest time of my life. Once my vision recovered, I maintained a love for audiobooks. I decided I would turn my focus from being a writer to becoming a narrator. I devised Tall Tale TV as a way to help out all the amazing authors in the writing communities I had come to love before my ordeal. I created Tall Tale TV to help aspiring authors by providing them with a promotional audiobook video. A way to showcase their skills with the written word. They say the strongest form of advertisement is word of mouth, so I provide a video to a platform of readers to help get people talking. Help them spread the word. People often ask for advice on how to lead in a given situation, what leadership means, or one tip they can improve their leadership with. Nearly none of the questions help someone improve their leadership. The most useful question I can think of is: How do I learn to lead? In other words, what steps can I take to learn to lead?No leader would answer: read a lot of books, magazine articles, or journal articles. Nor would they suggest discussing case studies of other people's experiences, write papers, listen to lectures, or take tests. They'd probably say something about getting experience, especially related to leadership, not sitting in a classroom. What experience, though? Only random life experience, hoping it will help?Learning the social and emotional skills underlying leadership may once have meant shots in the dark. No longer. Project-based, active, experiential learning teaches these skills as reliably and predictably as playing scales teaches piano and hitting ground strokes teaches tennis.I learned of Tony Wagner and his work through his appearances in a documentary movie on that type of learning, mainly in US K-12 schools, called Most Likely to Succeed, based on a book he co-wrote of the same title. I had started learning to teach that way. The movie accelerated my learning and expanded my horizons.Leadership and teaching this style overlap. You will benefit from learning this style of learning whether you teach or have kids or not. Hearing Tony speak of it will show you it's importance and accelerate your learning. You'll lead yourself and others better. We start by him sharing problems with education. You'll likely be able to read between the lines on our ineffective leadership in politics, business, and especially relevant to the environment. Current education focuses on facts and analysis, not skills. It produces would-be leaders who focus on facts and analysis who create plans they lack the skills to implement, if they even create implementable plans. If you haven't acted, you don't know what you're talking about regarding leading, yet people trained in the mainstream style consider themselves experts. It happens to all of us, all the more the less we know how to learn how Tony shows. What's causing environmental problems isn't lack of knowledge or facts, but acting effectively to engage others. Tony talks about what we don't teach and what we could teach---things missing from many areas in life as people seek compliance through coercion. I see scientists trying to influence legislators by bypassing the public---a process they decry others for doing in the other direction. They think they're right. They may be, but they're trying to bypass democracy. Do they not see the problem? People who disagree think they're right too. When Tony says education, I recommend substituting leadership. In nearly each case, what he says applies equally.I recommend reading his books (listed here) and watching Most Likely to Succeed, especially if you have kids or interact with other people. There were about 4000 people involved in that change. There’s no Scrum Master/Agile Coach team big enough to take on that responsibility, so they took a different approach. The organization invested in a way to scale up their ability to coach teams, using a “Learning Sets” approach and the “Challenging Coaching” approach to coaching.  In this episode, we refer to the whitepaper by Scrum.org on the 8 stances of a Scrum Master, and the pain-relief cycle as a way to improve performance in teams.   About Tony Richards Tony coaches Agile teams across the UK and currently serves as program advisor to the Scrum Alliance. Did you watch the Launch event that has over 460k people registered!?! Here was my small contribution. On this special episode you will hear Russell at the Mastermind.com launch talking about what it’s like to be called to serve, and the reasons why maybe you’re scared to take the step to accept your calling. Here are some of the awesome things you will hear in today’s episode: Why being afraid to get started is okay, but you’ve got to do it anyway. Why being a “chapter ahead” is a good way to start. And why accepting not accepting your calling could be a tragedy not only for yourself, but for other people too. So listen here to what Russell had to say at the Mastermind.com launch with Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi. ---Transcript--- Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson. Welcome back to the Marketing Secrets podcast. I’m whispering right now because I’m actually sitting here at Dean Graziosi’s office. Tony Robbins is in the room next door and we are doing this huge launch for the KBB method at mastermind.com, which is kind of crazy. And I’m going to be up in like 30 minutes from now. So I asked my brother when it’s done to rip whatever I say, to make it a podcast episode. So I have no idea what’s going to happen. I don’t know what I’m going to say, hopefully something good comes out of it. But it’s part of a really fun promotion that we’re doing. Last year we did this launch and it was the biggest launch in the history of the internet and this is year two. So hopefully we do well. But I’m going to be sharing stuff about the knowledge of business and being an expert and just all the cool things. So hopefully you guys enjoy it. When we come back from the theme song, as long as nothing goes really, really bad, my brother will be plugging in my part of the presentation from tonight’s live event. So I hope you love it, and we’ll talk soon. Bye everybody. Dean: Look at this, by magic of video, Russell Brunson. Russell: How’s it going man? Tony: Good to see you. Russell: You too. Good to see you. Dean: Good to have you back. Look at, two years in a row. Russell: I know, thanks for inviting me back I’m so happy to be here. Dean: For those of you who don’t know Russell, Russell’s been a dear friend for, I think we’ve known each other for 12 years, since we were both at a charity event. We met, I think it was over a decade. Russell started a company called Clickfunnels, one of the fastest growing, what would you say, what’s the definition of your company beside a world changer? He made being online and marketing and building webpages, I’m using simple terminology, the easiest on the planet. One of the fastest growing SAAS and development companies that’s not backed by other capital, just by bootstrapping. Built one of the most amazing companies on the planet. Tony: And started with no business background, really. Right? Was a wrestler, a dedicated human being and was just wanted to help people. I mean, that’s really your driving force, it still is. You come across as so humble and yet you’re so skilled. And we met when you came to one of my seminars 12 years ago, as well. So we’ve known each all that time, and I’ve just watched you grow geometrically. And you know, in the online business like anyplace else, there are industries where there are people that are extraordinary and there’s a lot of people that are soso, and some that are crooks. And unfortunately, there’s a lot of crooks. You are so the opposite, you offer it with such integrity and such commitment to add value to other people. And we’re privileged to have you as a dear friend, and thank you for coming on. Russell: Thanks. Wow, that was amazing. I’m excited because, I told Dean this before. I got started in this business watching him on infomercials with a pad of paper taking notes like, “this is amazing.” And then Tony, the first time I heard about Tony, I went on EBay and bought every one of your courses, literally every one of them. And then my wife and I listened in the car driving everywhere. And the first time I had a chance to meet you it was one of the most amazing moments of my life. So I’m just grateful to being sitting in the room with you guys, which is so much fun. Dean: So you were back there watching us, sometimes there’s so much information to share you can complicate it. And I just want, I was hoping you could come in and say, what are the parts where we cut through the chase and show people how they can get started on this path? Russell: For sure. I think for everyone who’s watching, you’re listening to this and there’s a reason why you showed up here today. There’s what, 460,000 people registered. So there’s a reason everybody is hearing the message and they showed up to be here. I think then becomes a time where like, hey, if you like what you’re learning there’s the opportunity to go and take the next step. And people get scared all the time. And I’ve kind of found in my time doing this online, there’s usually three main reasons why people don’t get started. And the first one is they’re scared of the vehicle, like the thing. So for this whole opportunity, it’s all about you taking your knowledge and turning it into these amazing things. And I’m not going to spend too much time on that because I think, I mean right there is the stack of what, 1000 Dean: 1100. Russell: 1100 wins in the last 12 months. You’ve seen this is how I’ve built my companies, Tony’s done it, Dean’s done it, Jenna’s done it. It’s not like it’s a new weird thing. It’s there, it’s happening. I think that for most people they believe that like, okay this is actually a legitimate, it’s a real thing, it’s a way that I can serve and I can change people’s lives. But then the second one, this is what I want to spend the most time in, is people’s internal fear of like, “Okay, I believe that this is really, really good, but I don’t know if I can actually do it.” So I want to spend a little bit of time talking about that. And some of my notes I was writing back here, and I think, I’m a big believer in this, and I’m guessing these guys believe the same thing, but I really do believe that business is a calling. Tony: Yes. Russell: It’s a calling that you’ve been called to serve a group of people. And for any of you guys who are here today, my guess is that you heard that calling and it’s like this tug and this pull. And you know, in the new testament it talks about many are called but few are chosen. It’s like, we get the calling, everyone has a chance, you have these opportunities where you’re called and you feel this pressure pulling you into something and you’re not sure what to do and you’re nervous and you’re scared and all these things happen. And most people just walk away from it. You feel the tug and then like, ugh, there’s too much fear, they’re scared or whatever that is. So again, my guess is you’ve felt that calling and you’ve been called to serve and there’s a group of people that you can literally change their life, which is the most amazing feeling I think most of us can have in this life. I have a close friend, Ryan Moran, he had a quote that he told me the other day that I thought was the coolest thing. He said, “An entrepreneur is someone who takes personal responsibility for a problem that is not their own.” If you think about that, most of the world see there’s a problem, “Ah, that’s not mine. That’s not mine.” They’re running away. Dean: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tony: Yeah. Russell: Whereas entrepreneurs are like, “Huh, I think I can fix that. I think maybe I’m the one who’s supposed to be doing that.” And it’s the opposite of what the rest of the world is doing. So you’ve heard that, you’ve felt that calling and it’s like, maybe that’s me. And I look at these 1100 people and how many, 4000 niches? Dean: Yeah, 4000. 4000 yeah. Tony: There’s more than 1100, those are just the ones we printed out. We ran out of this paper. Russell: It’s amazing. So 4000 niches means 4000 problems out there that are being solved. There’s a person like you who’s hearing that and like, “Maybe, that’s my thing. Maybe I’m the one who’s supposed to….” And you know my first business was teaching people to make potato guns, so I was the guy like, that was my first thing. I don’t know if you remember I sent you… Tony: I do remember, you sent me one. Russell: The first time I met Tony I was like, “How do you impress a guy who’s got everything.” So I sent him a potato gun. Tony: It shoots far though. Russell: So fun. But that’s the thing. That’s like our role, we hear the calling and then we’re the ones who say, “Man, that’s a challenge, that’s an opportunity. I’m going to take personal responsibility. I’m going to be the person who does this. Who helps this.” You know, Dean when he started this business he was like, ‘I’m going to be the one who helps people to bring knowledge out>” When Tony started his it was like, “I’m going to be the person who’s going to take this thing.” And I think that’s the thing. Now, what’s interesting I think for most of us, is the calling when you hear it, when you feel it, that feeling, it’s never at a convenient time. Ever. Tony: And you don’t feel prepared when you go for it either. Russell: Yeah, it’s the scariest thing in the… Dean: You’ve got to work your courage muscle. Russell: It’s the scariest thing in the world. And I was looking through just, as I was listening to everybody, I was thinking about some of the people that I’ve had a chance to be around who have a big impact on me, and I’ve seen have a big impact on different industries and different markets. There are a couple of stories that really spoke to me that I want to share with you guys. One of them is from one of my friends, Chris Wark. Chris runs a site called chrisbeatcancer.com. And Chris is a perfect example. He’s a guy living a normal life, everything is happening, and then he comes down with cancer, which is, I can’t even imagine that. And the fear, and all the things that happen with that. He went through the process and he figured out the ways, and eventually was able to cure himself of cancer. And in this time it’s like, he feels this calling of like, I need to help other people, but man, I just got my life back. There’s so many things I could be doing. But that calling, that feeling of I’ve got to help people, I have to give back, I have to serve. I’ve been given so much in my life, I need to help other people. And I’ve seen it transform now thousands of people’s lives because of this challenge he got, which became such a gift. Tony: His mess became his message. We talked about it right. It’s a mess that became something that can help everybody. It’s beautiful. Russell: Yeah, such a cool thing. Another one is Annie Grace, is one of my favorite people. Annie actually had a problem with alcohol addiction, and she was a business woman, she was traveling all around the world and she got to a point where she was doing these meetings with people and everyone went out, and they had a drink and eventually she woke up one day and realized, “I have a problem and I need to stop this thing.” And she didn’t know how to stop it. And she tried a whole bunch of different things to try to overcome that. And none of the traditional routes of things really worked. So she sat down and said, “I have to figure out how do our minds actually work? What causes addictions? What is the thing that’s making it so I can’t break this addiction? No matter how much I try all the different programs that are out there.” And throughout time she figured out the psychological effects and how to shift and how to break it and how to reverse it. And she’s gone on and written books, she does events, she does courses teaching people how to break the chains of alcohol addiction, which also relates to pretty much any addiction. I’ve watched her, she had this thing that was the worst, and like, you just recovered from this problem you had, and all the sudden you feel this calling of like, you need to help people. Why am I qualified, I have the problem. I’m the least qualified person in the world. Tony: That’s actually what makes you the most qualified. When you solve it. Dean: Yep. Russell: 100% Tony: It’s not intellectual, it’s real results. That’s the difference between traditional education and what this is really all about. Russell: And I’ve had a chance to see now with her, just looking at her community, these people’s lives she changed, families she’s saved. All these things because she’s going out there. I assume everyone’s felt that. I’m sure all you guys listening have felt that call and that pull of just, I need to help. Alex Charfen calls it the contribution gap, like I know I need to be doing more. I don’t know what it is, I’m scared, I’m fearful. But it’s like, being willing to take that step, being the entrepreneur saying, “I’m going to take personal responsibility for that problem. I’m going to take it and make it my own.” So that’s kind of the first step in this process. One question that we got on the questions I was reading through here was, “Who’s going to listen to me? I’m just a person.” And I don’t know, I always kind of laugh, when I go back home tonight, I’m going to back to my family and I’m just a person. But here I am right. But we’re all that way. I think a lot of times we’re scared of, I don’t know if I’m, I’m not qualified yet. Or maybe when I get to this certain point, then I’ll be ready. Then I’ll be ready. And we have this, we call it the manana principle, it’s like, tomorrow, manana, manana I’ll be ready, and keep pushing it off til forever and it never actually happens. And there’s a movie, Catch Me If You Can,  have you guys seen that? Dean: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tony: Yeah, of course. Russell: And there’s also a book and the book version is a little bit longer than the movie. There’s a, it’s a story of a guy who’s a con artist, so it’s not the best role model. Dean: It’s a fun movie. Tony: I’ve met the guy, he’s a real guy. Russell: Oh, did you really? Tony: Yeah, it’s a true story. Russell: Well in the book he tells this story when he actually, between all the different things he did, he was an airline pilot, he was a doctor, he did all these different crazy things. And one thing, he went to Brigham Young University and actually became a sociology professor. He walked in one day, there was no teacher, he grabbed the book and gets up there and teaches an entire semester of advanced sociology. Later when the feds catch him for all the crazy things he’s done, they ask him, “how did you teach a semester of advanced sociology to these people?” and he’s like, “Oh, it was easy, I just got the book and read one chapter ahead.” I think what’s interesting, it’s so true for all of us. We’re thinking, when I’m Tony Robbins, then I’ll go serve the people and I’m going to help people. It’s like, no, you can help people today. You look back, who am I one chapter ahead? Who am I one or two steps ahead of that I can look back and start helping? If I would have waited to share my message about, you know, I teach people how to build companies with sales funnels. If I would have waited until I was ready, I never would have been ready. In fact, talking about this whole concept of if the calling is never convenient, I remember when I started this company it was like I had built up a company, it collapsed, I’d fired 80 people, I was in the brink of bankruptcy. I literally emailed a bankruptcy lawyer, we were talking through all the things and all the sudden I felt the calling. I was like, what? It was like, you need to start talking about this story. I’m like, I don’t want to tell this, this is a horrible story.  I don’t want to tell it. Dean: This is a horrible story. Russell: And for me, I started sharing it. I started a podcast, I started talking about it, I started talking about it, I started talking about it, I started talking about this journey I was going on. And it was painful and it was embarrassing. And at first, it’s kind of interesting because when you first start talking, I think a lot of times we’re nervous because it’s like, people are going to make fun of us. But at the beginning nobody is actually listening to you, so it doesn’t really matter. At the beginning that’s the chance for you to find your voice and learn how to actually do it. So it’s not about how to actually do it. It’s about you learning your voice and how to do the thing, and getting a chapter ahead of the times. And after you get a chapter ahead, you can look back and start helping people. So I’m in the middle of the brink of bankruptcy, and I feel the calling, start publishing, start doing a podcast, doing whatever. I start sharing these messages, and I started to figure out my stuff. And really quick all these people started kind of following me. And like, oh my gosh, Russell’s a couple of steps ahead. And I could look back and start helping them as well. I think that’s the big thing to understand. And then the last thing internal I think that, I don’t want anyone to think this business is always going to be so easy, I’m going to get rich overnight. That’s not what this is. This is a career, this is a lifestyle, this is a mission. This is something to be driven beyond that. And I think a lot of times we’re like, “Okay, I’m going to sign up for KBB tonight, and then next week I’m going to make 50,000 dollars.” That’s not how this works. That’s not the game. The game is you come out here and you’re building a business, you’re building a career, this is a lifestyle. This is something more than any of those other things. And I was reading a blog post the other day from one of my friends, Nathan Barry, and the blogpost was called, Endure Long Enough To Get Noticed. And in this blogpost he talked about, he said, “How many movies or TV shows did you not hear about until season 3 or 4 or 5? Dean: Yeah, yeah. Tony: Well, Seinfeld was a total failure and nobody was going to do it. Ended up being one of the greatest of all time. Dean: Yeah. Russell: Exactly, and I think what happened, there was so much content, so many people, so many things happening, so much noise happening that us as humans, we wait to see what’s going to stick around long enough to actually rise to the top. So for a lot of us it’s understanding that and going into this like, this isn’t going to be an overnight thing. This is something I’m getting into, this is going to be a business, but I’m going to start the process and I’m going to get a chapter ahead, and then a second chapter, and I’m going to be learning this. And as you keep doing that, that’s the process, and if you endure long enough…like if you start today, and then a month from now, 2 months from now, 6 months from now, a year from now. A year from now you’re going to be in that big old stack of paper. And then 2 years from  now you’re going to be up here on stage and you’re going to take Jenna’s seat and you’ll be telling your story. But it’s all about enduring long enough to get noticed. Keep doing the thing, keep doing the thing. So I hope that helps you guys, those who are thinking, “I don’t know if I could do it.” You could ask my friends in high school and my family members and stuff like, that, in fact, I served a mission for my church and we had the guy who’s kind of the lead of the mission, he’s called a mission president. And he came to our last event we did, and he said, “man, of all the people that I worked with 20 years ago, you were the least likely that I would have ever thought would be this person.” And it doesn’t have to do with your skills now, it has to do with you talking and sharing, and the more you do it, the better you’ll get and the more comfortable. So again, the first thing, the first big fear is that people are scared of the vehicle. I don’t know if this is for me. I promise you, this works. It’s worked for so many people. Number two is, can I do it? And the answer is yes, you can do it. And the third fear people have is the external fear of, “Well, I believe that this is right, I believe that I could do it. I just don’t know how to do it.” That’s the whole point. You shouldn’t know how to do it. That’s why we have KBB for you so you can go and figure it out. That’s the best part. Tony: Save yourself years and years. And also what you said earlier is really true. I want to save you, but I always tell people, most people overestimate what they’ll do in a year, and underestimate what they’ll do in a decade. Look at what’s happened to you, and I’ve known you this last decade, the growth has been insane. But you know, I always overestimated, but because I kept doing it, endured, it just grows and grows, and when you got multiple decades on you, you’ll be in a place you never dreamed of. So that may sound too far off for people who want an instant answer. But you do have an instant answer. You have the answer of what to do now, so you start with, like I did, 7 people, then you go to your 20 and your 50 and your 100. And pretty soon you’ve built something that you’re unbelievably proud of because it’s meaningful and it’s impactful, and you’ve been able to take care of your family and have the kind of economical freedom that you want. And you’re a perfect example of that Russell. Russell: Thank you. Tony: Also a perfect example of what integrity is. You have tremendous integrity. You are always looking to add more value, the same as us, I think it’s why you’ve prospered so much, brother. Russell: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. Dean: Yeah, and it’s great. I mean, you write books on this. You help people uncover, and you know, Jenna was right, we call it unpackaging your super power, exposing your super power, and it sounds so big, but when you look at people helping parents with eczema, or through a divorce, or the examples you gave here, you realize your mess could be your message. Or just that thing you didn’t realize took you 5years to figure out, there’s somebody starting on day one and they need it. So before, only because I know we’re getting late here, and I want to give everybody the opportunity, but I don’t want to leave without any last words or any last thoughts. Russell: Yes, I have one last, in fact it’s a quote. So I’m going to quote someone much greater than me, if that’s okay, because this one of my favorite quotes of all time, and hopefully this will ring true for you. This is from Sir Winston Churchill. He said, “To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered a chance to do a very special thing unique to them, and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared, or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.” Dean: Wow. That is… Russell: For everyone listening, again, business is a calling. You have been called to serve a group of people. You have been called to change their lives and you felt that. That’s why you’re here, that’s why you’re still on 2 hours into this thing, because you’re feeling it, and you know this is for you but you’re scared and you’re nervous, and all those things. And it’s okay. You should be scared. Do you think I’m not scared coming out here and hanging with you? I’m shaking in my boots right now. It’s okay. You still gotta show up and just do the thing, because there are people out there that are waiting for you to change their lives and you can’t do it until you take that first step. Because the chance is going to come where you could have changed someone’s life, but if you’re not prepared what a tragedy that would be for you. But more importantly, what an even bigger tragedy it is for them. So take advantage, move forward because you have the ability to change somebody’s life. And the tools you’re going to learn in this process will help you be able to do that. A lot of times we worry about ourselves when we make a decision like this, “How is it going to affect me?” and things like that. And I would challenge you to flip it around the other way. Who are the people I’ve been called to serve? How will me taking a step change their lives? Tony: Or your family. Russell: Yeah, your family, people around you. It’s interesting, when you shift away from “How am I going to make money?” to “How can I serve people?” the money will come, it just does. But that, I can’t tell you. I’ve had a lot of big wins in my life, and it’s like, “it’s really fun.” But when you can have a chance to help someone else have that impact and you see them win, there’s nothing better than that in the world. And you guys will have a chance to experience that. Some of you for the first time in your lives. And you have a chance to do that, and you see somebody else’s light bulb go off, and their life change, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, I was a little piece in that journey.“ There is no better feeling than that in the whole world. So I hope you guys can all experience that as you go through this program and change the lives of the people you’ve been called to serve.

One man’s fame, success, and glory—and the story behind it allThis week’s guest is one my closest friends in the entire world—someone you might not expect but a person who has made one of the biggest impacts on my life. He was my model for navigating sobriety in the public eye and someone whom I immediately felt I knew and felt safe with—his name is Tony Mandarich. In this episode we dive into the story behind the glory and talk about Tony’s upbringing, his climb in athleticism and fame, playing football in college, to finally being drafted to the NFL. He opens up about his addictions and the three pivotal events that brought everything crashing down. Listen to this episode to hear how resilience, perseverance, and being fed up led one man to turn his life around from addiction and commit to a different kind of success and lifestyle—sobriety.Listen to this episode nowMore than just footballTony’s story is much more than just football. He starts by sharing his family background, how they escaped communism and immigrated from Croatia to a small town in Canada. As a young kid, Tony vividly remembers being 11 years old and writing down his dreams of one day playing in the NFL. When Tony turned 16, he realized he could not be scouted in Canada. He shares his brothers sacrifice to move him down to the States, and how that move was the beginning of everything. However, the fame, the success, the glory—Tony’s story is behind it all. For him, football is the platform and tool to carry his greater message. Addiction to “I’m done”He shares the moments and thoughts that led up to the first time he injected steroids, the psychological effects that are ten times more extreme than the physical ones, the three tragic events that spiraled him to his breaking point, and the specific events that led to him getting sober from alcohol and painkillers. Although Tony isn’t proud of some of his past, he has changed his virtues and values to align with who he wants to be. He uses football as a means to share his story, his addiction, his sobriety, and to give others hope. He speaks out about how he had nothing to lose anymore because he had lost everything and himself—how even if you are in a storm of pain, it’s important to trust that there is beauty on the other side. Tony MandarichToday, Tony is a successful and world-renowned photographer and public speaker. After retiring from football, he perfected his own craft as a professional photographer and achieved prominence and recognition for his uniquely compelling images. Beautiful Souls. Welcome to our Friday podcast. We are here with a Bonnie Scilingo. She is a family friend that I have known all my life and she has this beautiful beautiful story about her loved ones coming through to her from the other side.   [00:01:57] And I just had to have her on today to tell you about her story because you're just gonna have goose bumps. That's all I can say. You are gonna have goose bumps hearing about how her team her spirits have come through to her. So Bonnie thank you so much for being on the podcast. I'd love for you to tell us a little bit about your loved ones, and I know the numbers tie into to all of this so you had to tell us about the numbers.   [00:02:27] Thank you so much Julie for having me on. I'm really excited about this because I've told this story to many people and it does he gives goose bumps to me every time I retell it. So my husband passed away on January, 4th 2010 and he loved baseball. It was his biggest passion and his number of his jersey was number 32. So he spent most of his free time playing baseball when he wasn't home or working. But I can remember it was his birthday I think of 2012 and my daughter and I decided we were going to go out to his favorite sushi restaurant and have sushi in honor of Tony's birthday. And as we were eating the sushi I said to my daughter Jamie, do you think Dad is here? And she said I don't know Mom I think he might be. I said I think you might be too I think he follows us a lot. So we had just finished eating our sushi and the bill came. I looked at the bill and I'm ready to sign after their credit card. And I looked down and it's the amount is thirty two dollars and thirty two cents. Remember, his favorite number is 32. So she and I looked at each other and like wow he really is here so we were so excited because once you connect with your loved one when they pass there's so many times that you can see these little things that happen especially when you kind of you kind of understand OK.   [00:04:10] When I see number 32, I know it is Tony. I also see that with his birthday which is May 13th and I see that also with my birthday which is August 21st. But 32 seems to be the one that I hear from him most.   [00:04:29] So a jump to another thirty two story if you'd like to know. And that is actually just happened. Well let me back up. I decided after Tony passed a couple of years went by that I was going to start dating. So I dated this guy that turned out to be not telling me the truth about his current situation. And we had just left the restaurant and I found out that the man was not single. So we're in the car and I'm going to I wish I had known this before I went to dinner with you and on the sudden a car taps a source right in front of us and I look at the license plate and the license plate says pitcher 32. My husband was a baseball pitcher and it his number, Thirty two.   [00:05:23] I scream, "Oh my gosh".   [00:05:26] Can you believe it?   [00:05:28] I can't believe it at all.   [00:05:30] OK. Keep going.   [00:05:32] So I turn to the date and I looked at him and I kind of scream and he goes, What's the matter, I go into my husband in front of us telling me that I shouldn't be on this date with you   [00:05:50] But you know to see see number three two is one thing, but to see the name -- the word pitcher in front of it, I knew that this isn't coincidental. That was definitely a sign of Tony. And so that's another 32 sighting with my husband, and I'll give you another one.   [00:06:07] This happened this year this past year my son Tony graduated with a advanced degree from DePaul University in Chicago and knew we were going to his commencement for it. And I'm walking through to get my ticket for my seat and I'm with my sister and my daughter. My son is already he's up with the graduates and I look at them I said give me Tony's at this graduation. And of course they said I'll probably probably. So I get to get my tickets. They give me the ticket to where I'm sit. I'm going to see they give me the ticket. It's number 32. So I'm also sitting in number a number 32 was my seat. Again not another coincidence that happened in May of this past year of 2018. August of 2009 18. My sister and I go to a Cubs game. Now you have to know something about my husband the baseball player.   [00:07:09] He was not a Cubs fan. He was a white sox fan. So playing the Cubs was who he was and he was OK with them but his love was white sox of both the White Sox and the Cubs clean each other. It's definitely the White Sox he's rooting for. Well this day it's the Cubs playing the Cincinnati Reds. My sister and I get our seats. And again I say to our so do you think Tony is at this game. She said Well by the way that he shows himself to you I'm sure he's at this game. So they are announcing the pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds and these folks his name number 32. So my husband was on the mound pitching against the Cubs which I'm sure he loved. I'm sure he loved. So those are those are the 30 twos that I can remember. Truly I think there's a few more but these are the ones that really stick out my mind. So he shows himself to me all the time with his his baseball no body that is absolutely incredible.   [00:08:16] I mean not just to have this happen once or twice but over and over and over again. I just can't believe it. How do you. Because I think there are people out there who say well I don't see signs. I don't see signs from my loved ones. But I got to tell you in all of my sessions spirit comes through and they're always saying I am showing them signs. They're just not seeing it. They're just not hearing it. They're just not looking.   [00:08:45] And I just want to know from you Bonnie how did you see it.   [00:08:50] How did you hear it. How are you able to connect like that.   [00:08:54] Well Julie when Tony died the loss was so great and you really I really quickly wanted to establish some way of communicating with him. So I used his jersey number and I actually talked to him and I said Tom when I see number 32 I know what's going on I know you're around. I know that's way of you telling me that you're here with me your angels are here you are here your spirit is here I established number 30 to kind of quickly cause when he passed I never stopped talking to him. I talked to him to this day I talked to him. I kept him all the time. So I think what people need to do is talk to their loved one and try to communicate a way that they will know when that person on the other side wants to communicate with them.   [00:09:47] That's awesome. Bonnie you are somebody that I know so well in my life and I don't know if I would feel comfortable asking everybody else this question but I think that you would understand the importance of getting this information to other people who are listening.   [00:10:04] So I'm just wondering I mean you lost somebody so young who was so close to you and I know that it was just absolutely devastating and every single level. But you found peace in your heart and you found the ability to go on which not everybody is able to do. I have a lot of clients who I mean it just it makes me want to cry and it just breaks my heart. They they lose somebody and then it's almost as if life stops and they're really not able to continue and this isn't just for one year or two years this is for a very long time. So I'm just wondering if you would be able to share with our listeners just how you were able to find some bit of peace in your life after his passing.   [00:10:57] Yes truly I'd be happy to answer that question. I've always had a very strong faith in God and my. Love of God and knowing that God loves me and I've always had a very deep spiritual connection to knowing that the afterlife is if I'd like you to explain it. I think it's just a membrane away. So I think that they're so close to us that when someone dies the grief can be enormous and I had so much grief. Julie It was a sudden death. There was no preparation for it. One day he was here. One day he was gone. So what I decided to do because boy you do feel like you want to stop living. What I decided to do is to really emerge myself and dive in to support groups. And I did one through my local hospital which has a it's a Christian based hospital and they had a grief group for people whose spouses have died specifically for the death of a spouse and I decided that I was going to go into this. I was going to go every time that they met which was every Monday night and I was going to go and nothing was going to stop me because my grief was overwhelming and I really didn't feel like going on. So I went to this grief group. I ended up staying there for a year and a half. Took me a year and a half before I could as I put it graduate. And can I tell you this was so helpful to me because what it did it put me in there was sometimes to were twenty five people there sometimes there were 50 people there and we'd sit in a group and we'd we'd be in a big circle and I would hear and we would share stories about our grief and then we would pray and then we would have to decide afterwards as a group to go out for coffee.   [00:13:09] So I had this new group of support people that were all brand new. I didn't know any of these people before this happened and it was getting into this group scene that other people are also going through the same thing I'm going through and here I'm going thinking nobody's going to have a worse story than me. No one no one. My story is going to be the top. Oh boy. My story was not a. There were people that had experienced greater depths of a spouse than that I thought mine was. So it took me 18 months and it was the best thing to do. And I would tell your listeners that if they're not in a support group and they're not in a grief group I would certainly look into one and they're all over and find one. The one I had was from actually Hinsdale hospital where I live and they can direct you to that if that would be some place that I would really suggest you would want to start.   [00:14:09] Bonnie thank you so so much for taking the time to be on the show today and for all of your beautiful stories and for your supportive messages to our listeners. I just can't tell you how much I appreciate your time and coming on today.   [00:14:27] Oh thank you Julie I really enjoyed it. Thank you so much.   [00:14:32] Of course of course. Have a great blast weekend and look out for all of those blessings that spirit is bringing into your life right now.   [00:15:33] Ok. Bonnie are you there. I am Julie. Yes. Oh my gosh I'm fine.   [00:15:40] I've got something to send you.   [00:15:42] I have a photo that was taken of a very store and the first year anniversary of Tony's stuff.   [00:15:49] I don't know if I told you this truce of meetings. OK. So I went on a boat. I'm a boat on a boat and I'm in Hawaii out of the ocean. And first of all the captain of the boat as you. Aaron get out on the boat. His name was Tony. So that's the fellow. He's the captain of this boat. He takes us way out to where I'm going to throw Tony's party Tony's ashes over and as I'm throwing the ashes over in this particular spot. One of my friends that was with me on this trip took a camera shot. He developed it and he brought it to me goes bad. You won't believe what this what you're going to see. Julie there is an angel in this picture just hovering hovering over where I threw his ashes. I have to send you this photo Oh it.   [00:16:47] Yes you will.   [00:16:48] Do you want to see that on the podcast. I just. I should I should agent. Can I show it. I need it. Yeah. OK.   [00:16:58] Yes. I'm going to. I'm going to send it to your email. Yeah man. Yeah. So it's your email. And it's in Hawaii and it's in the middle of the ocean and it is definitely an angel in the air.   [00:17:14] You will see the now. Wow. Oh my gosh I'm dying to see this picture. You have to send it to me that's it.   [00:17:21] And then. And so this of course we did notice until after we got home and this was developed because this was taken with a very high end camera. So it wasn't an iPhone camera which are good today. But in 2011 this was a high end camera that he had brought. So if it's very accurate you can see an angel but as I said I'm getting off the ship.   [00:17:44] My phone rings and it's a tale of radio. They're calling me because I had been in constant contact with them that year and they wanted to pray for me on the anniversary of his death.   [00:17:56] So I said OK. So they prayed with me on the anniversary of the death. And when I thanked them I go thank you so much. And I said What was your name again. Because my name is Tony.   [00:18:07] Oh yeah.   [00:18:10] Gosh I feel that so much in my heart.   [00:18:14] Yeah. Oh yeah. If you don't if you don't believe in spirits and you don't believe in the afterlife and it's a good place you have to listen to my story because oh it is.   [00:18:27] I mean he is he is around us all the time.   [00:18:30] Yeah. Oh for sure.   [00:18:33] Especially on big dates and big bases around especially on big data.   [00:18:36] That's amazing. That's amazing.   [00:18:38] You know how guys should I say here to tell you oh I just picked up Billy Graham's book all about a one angel.   [00:18:46] Yes handed. Oh yes I have that book. Yeah.   [00:18:49] Oh my gosh. Wonderful book. Well what I was fascinated about I read Billy Graham when you talk about Christian.   [00:18:56] He's kind of like the king of all Christians right. Yeah he does.   [00:19:00] He's the icon. Totally totally.   [00:19:03] You know help me cause some Christians can go about they're not sure about the angel part.   [00:19:08] Yeah. Oh yeah. I have to leave Wayne Barrett said this is the book you need. They kept saying cause I kept seeing it pop up on Amazon I'm like What is this. And it's an old book. I mean it was published in 1995. So I'm reading this book right now.   [00:19:23] And when Billy Graham talks about angels he's not just talking about Angel angels with wings and halos he is talking about loved ones coming through yes.   [00:19:39] Yes yes yes yes.   [00:19:43] Which is so fascinating to me because the biggest thing that I run it up into is I mean you know how how religious my upbringing was and how much my faith has always been there. But the biggest thing that I run up against is people saying oh well the Bible says that that would never happen again. You know like that was just in the old times. That's not here today. That doesn't happen anymore. And the Bible says that.   [00:20:07] But Billy Graham of all people goes into. Yes it does it have yes. All right.   [00:20:15] That's what that's what's so wonderful about Billy Graham is that people think that he was so biblical to where he. You wouldn't have thought that the loved one would come back as an angel you know and when you read this old book on this quote from the 70s on his Angels it's like wow this guy had it. He was such a faithful man. Oh my God he was so so faithful one hundred percent.   [00:20:44] I know it's an honor.   [00:20:47] It was. He was amazing and lived a long life because I think he had so much to do. God. God said we're keeping you for a long time.   [00:20:57] You have a lot. You have a lot of work to do because he was actually doing good.   [00:21:01] I mean so many people they they hear the calling they hear the desires in their heart but then they just don't take the steps.   [00:21:09] And it is the people who are here are following the steps who are following the breadcrumbs that God gives them because God doesn't give you more unless you start with the first piece that he gives you. Right. So yes if you don't follow it you're not going to get more right.   [00:21:29] You're right. Right. Right. But Billy Graham was the one who who followed and his family was.   [00:21:37] They weren't all perfect. His kids got in trouble. I believe somebody got in big trouble. I can't remember. I know his daughter has written a book but somebody was or had broken away. And you know how they handled it.   [00:21:52] They just gave the kid more love. Yeah. They gave him more love. Yeah. They just they gave him more love and he eventually came around. It is his whole thing was love. This whole thing was love. Yeah. And you know her God loves us so much.   [00:22:12] Well that's it. That's all that there really is. It is it's all love.   [00:22:17] It is all love because you know because you know what it feels like when you don't have love and people always think that the opposite of love is hate with the opposite of love is severe. Yeah. You don't have love. You're so fearful you're so afraid and there's a vibration to that.   [00:22:33] We all know the vibration of fear and how it will linger with us if we don't concentrate on the love because it's really only by staying in the light. Staying in the love that you get more of that you can't dabble with the fear stuff.   [00:22:49] You just gotta stay in the light in the love yes light and the love that that's what I always tell everybody I said you know some people that say oh I can't I can't live the spiritual Christian life. I can't do it I can't. It's too hard I'm gone. It's really not that hard. There's really only two things that God asks us to do and that's. Well three things really. There's love him number one love everyone else. Number two just like you love God and number three which I think is the hardest is forgiveness. Forgiveness is probably the hardest but the other two to love. And once you know how long how easy it is when you love you you love more because it's really when you forgive you love. You know there's a lot of things that you can be angry with. I could be angry with Tony. Once I forgave him and it took a while once I really forgave him I was able to really love a lot more.   [00:23:53] Yeah yeah. You know forgiving is the tough part.   [00:23:58] Once you forgive somebody you know like you get in an argument once you forgive somebody for arguing oh gosh it feel so good.   [00:24:05] It does. And I believe in forgiveness.   [00:24:08] I feel like forgiveness is such an easy thing to say. Yeah I would forgive you I forgive but we all haven't been tested in the same way with it. And I just hope that you know we're all gonna have to come up against that some way in our lives and I think that you're just such an amazing role model because of the way that you were able to just handle everything in your life with just such grace and yeah just Grace.   [00:24:40] Well thanks Jules. It's been it's been there's been a lot of tough days.   [00:24:46] Yeah a lot of tough days but I'm still here am.   [00:24:52] And you know days there are good days as bad days but you know I know that I know that my angels are around me all the time. I meant to tell you this. I don't know if you know anything with the numbers but I. When Tony died the first four months every single day morning I would wake up at four forty four for forty four. Kept looking at this number. Oh my goodness it's forty four wives. Why am I waking up at 44 or why can't I go to sleep until I look at the clock it's 444. I looked at this number and according to the spirits this number is you're on the right path and the angels are now directing you your angels are all around you with number 444.   [00:25:38] That's how I know it.   [00:25:41] So the angel numbers are something that I really started to see after my dad passed away and I saw it the entire next year.   [00:25:49] And I've continued seeing it since I saw 44 but it started with eleven eleven. Oh yeah a twilight. Yeah yeah. It means awakening. And that was what was happening.   [00:26:02] Yes I seen eleven two I saw love and after I saw Levin's a lot when I started dating I would see Levins all the time. Eleven Eleven one one eleven eleven eleven. Oh what a sort of life. Yeah. But I don't do it anymore so I decided I'm not looking for anybody jewels if somebody wants to find me. They know what I mean. It'll come to me. I'm not looking anymore. I have too many other things I need to do. Yeah in my life. And if if God wants me to have a man in my life he'll send them to me.   [00:26:38] Yeah. Look at it.   [00:26:40] I think well I've got another woman coming on the show. March 19th and her name's Kay AK and she's just this phenomenal author who wrote this book called Divorce the love story. And we talk a lot in it not about divorce so much but about marriage in general and relationships and partnerships and just how much the institution is going to change because it's structurally it hasn't always allowed us to use our voice.   [00:27:13] And so there's a lot happening right now with relationships I would say energetically.   [00:27:20] Oh I agree with you with a lot happening to relationships and the relationships of people that I know there for some reason I don't know if it's the times but I I feel a lot of people are just not happy.   [00:27:37] Yeah in their relationships even though they think they're happy not happy. And I don't know if it's if it's you know this climate of the social world we live in.   [00:27:53] This is what I've gotten into a spirit and just working with so many different people. Is that what's happening right now is that the institution of marriage is at the beginning of a major shift and it's not about being against marriage. It's not about there not being any marriage in the future. It's about setting up the institution so that you're able to get out of it. If there is a natural arc to the relationship because right now you can't you can't just get out. I mean we're so tied financially together.   [00:28:29] If you can't work it out is it. If they stay in because it's made it worse if they tried to get out. Yeah or they yen in and they they're just not happy the way it is but they don't know how to fix it or they don't know why it's going bad.   [00:28:46] Well And I guess probably a lot of the people that you're talking to our women and a lot of the women that I'm talking to are coming into this to where the second really half to this is opening up our throat chakra because so much of this is us not using our voice on an individual level pretty much our entire life. I mean you know we were shushed as little girls we were told you know what we should do as adults. So we went in that direction and there really wasn't a lot of freedom within ourselves to use our voice to use our opinions to go in the direction that we wanted to. Yeah. So are you.   [00:29:26] Yeah that's a great point. You're right about that. Yeah. Women have a much bigger voice but they're never had a voice. You're right.   [00:29:32] Yeah. And. And so what's happening on the individual level is we have to do the work and put in the work of finding our voice finding out what our feelings and our needs are going more deeply and then acting on it and building the life that we want to have. And part of that's really scary.   [00:29:53] Oh yeah. Oh yeah very scary. Yeah.   [00:29:56] Even towards assert yourself in situations that you you thought you maybe should never assert yourself at. But now you're going to assert yourself and you don't know what the outcome is gonna be.   [00:30:09] Yeah yeah totally agreed. Yeah. Bobby I love you so much.   [00:30:17] I love you too Jules.   [00:30:20] We'll keep in touch and if you know anybody else who's got good angel stories I am still looking for more to have on here.   [00:30:33] Oh thank you so much. OK.   Well thank you again for being on I love you and am well enjoyed talking to him. OK. OK. Bye.   [00:30:53] My dear friends you don't know what an incredible huge huge huge blessing it is to this podcast when you write a glowing positive review for us. I recently attended Tony Robbins’s live event, “Date with Destiny.” If you’re not familiar with Tony Robbins, he is one of the premier motivational and training coaches, and I’ve wanted to go to one of his live events for a long time! This specific event, “Date with Destiny,” is 7 days of nonstop life-changing training and workshops. It was the most life transforming experience, and today I want to share with you my biggest takeaways and huge aha moments! If you want to feel fulfilled in your life, you must learn to grow and give beyond yourself. One of the things that Tony really digs into is what drives you to do the work you do. Prior to the event I really thought that my top 2 driving forces were significance and certainty. But oh boy, I was wrong! When Tony shared with the attendees The 6 Human Drives/Need, it truly shifted my mindset. The problem with significance being one of your internal drivers is that it causes us to constantly see external validation. We seek attention and also want to feel that we are worthy of that attention. However, the reality is, not everybody is going to like what we do in our life and business. There will always be critics and negative comments. Because you will never please everybody, significance is a game that you can’t ever win. It can never 100% be truly attained. My second driver used to be ‘certainty.” We have this need to always have things figured out. To feel secure and that we can and do have everything under control. But I want to tell you this, certainty does not exist. Nothing in life is certain. We need to step into the realm of faith because uncertainty is the true pathway to opportunity. Uncertainty is where we will experience new things which helps produce new and better results. What I realized is this, true fulfillment in my work is learning to grow and step towards love and contribution. So from here on out, I refuse to work from the need for significance and certainty. Instead, moving forward, I will from a place of love and contribution. I believe life is calling me for more. And I believe life is calling you for more, too! Make sure you tune into my new Live Show every Monday - Friday at 12:00 EST on both my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/YourVirtualUpline) and on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/bob_heilig)!

Awaken Your Alpha with Adam Lewis Walker - The #1 Mens Development podcast for inspirational stories & strategies to thrive!

This episode is all about following your real purpose in life with the mindset, habits, and discipline required for you to exceed your goals in 2019. Are you ready? When Tony turned 40, he began to question his real purpose in life.  He is a mentor, entreprenuer, engineer and car fanatic. In his own words... The four labels above describe my passions. I enjoy teaching, and I never stop learning. The world of entrepreneurship started for me as a child, purely as a method to earn extra money. My creativity and problem-solving skill are what led to my engineering career. Some of you may like cars, but I’m fanatical about them. I build cars, race them, and collect them. I’ve held a fascinating career in oil and gas since I was 18. Having started from the field, I later began working my way through engineering design roles, and then into Project Management. I’ve worked overseas in Europe, as well as in Africa. I enjoy the innovation, challenge, and complexity of managing $100MM+ large-scale projects. I thrive in these leadership roles. Alongside my oil career, I became an expert at creating part-time “side-hustle” businesses. I’ve started a couple businesses that generated incredible income, with minimal time requirements. I’ve managed them in only 1-2 hours per day. I’ve created both 6-figure and 7-figure online businesses. The latter one generated multiple six-figures of yearly income, far more than my oil career at the time. In 2007, at age 34, I became a millionaire when I sold that company. All of this was accomplished in my spare time.

Where is the economy is today – is it growing? Flat? Declining? What about YOUR economy – your personal investments, your nest egg? How safe is it, and how likely it is to grow at the rate you want it to? When you think about your current investments, how do you feel? Secure, or are you half-panicked? For many, the recession of 2008 still lingers. Those who suffered are waiting, white-knuckled, holding on to their portfolios and still wondering what to do next. We have, after all, been in one of the longest bull markets in history and bull markets always come to an end at some point. So how do you protect yourself from the possibility of another 2008? And how can you start to take a more proactive, confident approach to your portfolio? When Tony wrote Money Master the Game, he had the unique privilege of sitting down with some of the most successful, masterful investors and financial gurus of all time - including the legendary Ray Dalio. Ray founded the investment management firm Bridgewater Associates in 1975 out of his two-bedroom New York City apartment. Four decades later, Bridgewater has grown to be the largest hedge fund in the world, managing over 160 billion dollars, and making more money for its investors than any other hedge fund in history. Dalio himself has appeared on the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world, as well as the Bloomberg Markets list of the 50 most influential people. And in Money Master the Game, Ray explains just what it means to create a balanced portfolio and even revealed the exact percentages of a simple portfolio that will protect you from the dips and even the dives in the market. But now - as Ray nears retirement, he has made the decision to share even more of the systems and strategies that have brought him such massive success in his deeply personal book Principles: Life & Work. Tony recently sat down with Ray to discuss just why Ray felt so inclined to share his wisdom with the world and why Principles is an absolute must-read for everyone - whether you’re in the financial industry or not. And in this episode of the podcast, you will hear from Tony and Ray as they discuss the evolution of Ray’s career, the catastrophic mistakes he made that almost destroyed everything he built, and how the lowest points in his life taught him his biggest lessons. You’ll also hear Tony and Ray discuss their personal beliefs about creating a successful and productive workplace culture, and why everyone should strive to create a meritocracy and invoke “radical honesty” in their lives.

Welcome to another episode Punky Peeps. I'll be reviewing Season 1 Episode 14 Punky in the Record Business or also referred to as Play It Again, Punky which aired on January 20, 1985. In this episode we see that Punky’s disinterest in learning the piano causes Henry to bring in a professional a younger man named Tony Glen played by second guest appearance by musician Andy Gibb who happens to appeal to Punky’s tastes of music like Cyndi Lauper, Rick Springfield and Michael Jackson along with his creative ways of breaking down the steps of playing piano by naming the piano keys making them easier to identify. When Tony plays a song he wrote for Punky, she tells him she can help him get his music out into the world for the public to hear and make him a star. Which brings them to Dell Star Records run by Lonnie Dell, that's right, thee Lonnie Dell who has more gold records on his wall then he does clients. Will Punky and Tony get roped in or will Henry be able to save the day in the nick of time. Listen to find out. Well until next time, Punky Peeps, Punky On!

Pride makes it very difficult to be a great leader as a husband, father, business owner and Christian, but it is always there.  The enemy wants us to be prideful and put ourselves before God.  On this episode, Dino’s guest Tony Alesandra professes that he must always remember that God is in charge and he must lead his community by the example of service not words.  Take a listen to Tony’s very personal and inspirational walk with God.   “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” - Proverbs 3:5   Tony needs reminders that God is there and on his side.  He feels “stuck on stupid” when he walks alone, so he now creates a very personal walk with God. Biggest Weakness - There are times when he backslides and thinks only of himself.  In those moments he has to remind himself that God’s in charge.  Pride and ego build when things are going well and then you crash. Biggest Strength - Leading by example.  Tony tries very hard to let his walk speak louder than his words. There is no need to judge anyone.  Only God is perfect. Dark Time - When Tony went to college he forgot that God was there for him and spent those years focusing on himself and what he wanted. At age 27 his friend moved in and they began doing bible study in the morning. A-ha moment - When Tony began asking God to help him find his wife she appeared and they married 3 months after beginning their relationship.  He then knew he had to re-commit to God.  They’ve been married for 22 years. Advice - Don’t put your ego first.  Serve the person you’re with as well as the relationship. Transition from Catholicism to Christianity was ego because he went from a rigid to fluid relationship with God. Be bold and ask God into your life.  Also, become part of a great church that suits you. God’s Men of Influence - Be a man of God in the workplace so that you may lead. Tony is a member of Capo Beach Church. Tony was baptized as a baby and again at age 31. The closer Tony gets to God, the more he realizes he’s still far away. Best advice given - Rick Warren “Choose to Grow from it instead of Go from it”.  Leaders don’t run. “So, what do you do every day? What's typical  day like in your life?” I am asked this question, or something similar, often enough that I thought it might be worth answering in a podcast episode. This show is entitled, “A Day in the Life of Ray”. Other reasons to listen: How to see more good days than bad, from now on. A service that allows you to easily build beautiful process documentation for your business and your team. An encore presentation of the Masterclass, “How To Write A Sales Page That Rakes In $10 Million”. How to get promoted on this show to my audience.     Spiritual Foundations No More Bad Days Recently I've seen two friends go through a battle with cancer, and I saw first hand how we are in control of our response to what happens to us. Regardless of your circumstances, whether you have a good day or a bad day is really up to you Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet that, “there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” (NASB) There are 3 keys to stepping into a life with no more bad days. Key #1: Set Up a Rule You Can Always Meet In Order to Have a Good Day. Tony Robbins tells the story of two different gentlemen who attended one of his exclusive seminars in Fiji. One gentleman was a billionaire, a high achiever. The other was successful in many ways, but not someone with extraordinary income. Tony noticed that the billionaire seemed to be miserable, while the more average gentleman seemed to be extraordinarily happy. So Tony asked each man what was required in order for him to have a good day. The billionaire gave a long list of requirements that had to be met, including the amount of time he exercised, his target heart rate, his perfect diet, achieving certain financial milestones in his business, certain processes that had to happen correctly without fail, and a long list of things that must happen in order for him to have a good day. When Tony asked the gentleman who was a more moderate financial success about his rule for having a good day, the man replied with a big smile: “It's simple. Every day above ground is a good day.” You get to set up the rule for what makes a good day. Why not make it one you can meet? Key #2: Change the Way You Interpret What Happens to You. The lens we used to look at the world tends to control what we see. There is the story that is told about to traveling salesmen, each of whom had a conversation with the same farmer at the corner of his field near the road. The first asked him, “Hey! What kind of people live around here?” The farmer replied, “Well, what kind of people did you find in the last place you visited?” The salesman grimaced and said, “A bunch of dishonest, ornery, inhospitable scoundrels.” The farmer nodded, and said, “I expect you'll find the same sort of people around here.” The next day, a different traveling salesman encountered that same farmer at the corner of his field. This new salesman had a big smile on his face and said, “Hello! What a beautiful day, and what a beautiful farm you have! I wonder if I might ask you, what sort of people will I find around here?” Farmer grinned, and asked, “what sort of people did you find in the last place you visited?” “A lot of generous, happy, open hearted and welcoming people. That place was a real joy to visit!” The farmer smiled, and said, “I expect you'll find the same sort of people around here.” What we expect informs our interpretation of what we experience. The environment inside our heads controls the environment outside our heads. What we think about tends to be what we experience. Key #3: Have Biblical Hope. The word “hope” means something different in the Bible than what we typically mean by the word hope in our culture. In modern culture, “hope” is a wishy-washy, half in, half out milquetoast way of thinking. If we say we “hope” something will happen in a certain way, what we are really saying is, in effect, “I wish it would happen this way, but I know it probably won't.” On the other hand, typical hope can be defined as “the positive expectation of good things.” That's why our life of faith is referred to as “hope that does not disappoint”. And there are plenty of reasons to believe this hope of the Bible is for real. In the book of Romans, we are told that God makes “all things work for the good of those who love Him.” Jesus exhorted us not to worry about things we need in everyday life, but to trust that our Father in heaven is a good father, and he knows how to take care of his children, and that he will always give us what is best for us. Sometimes we may not be able to see how that is true, because we don't have his perspective. Just as a child might be upset when a parent roughly grabs them by the arms, yanks them off the ground, and throws them to the ground. The child may believe this was mean and cruel behavior, not realizing that their father just yanked them out of the way of an oncoming car, and saved their life. What's more, according to the Bible we know that the things that we speak and think have spiritual power to change what actually happens to us. I would encourage you to think about things that are good and positive. You may not be able to control your feelings, but you can certainly take control of your thoughts. The Apostle Paul put it this way: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 (ESV) I don't have “zero bad days” just yet… But I have many more good days than bad ones, and that ratio is always improving. I believe it is because I use the 3 keys to unlock the door to more good days: Set up an easy-to-meet rule for what makes a good day. Change the way you interpret what happens to you. Have biblical hope. A “positive expectation of good things.” Tip Of the Week SweetProcess is a service that allows you to easily build beautiful process documentation for your business and your team. 7 reasons I am back with them after a brief hiatus. Frees up my time, I can stop spending time on repetitive tasks. Get them documented and out of my head, so someone else can do them. Now I'm free to focus on growing my business. I can endure employee turnover without the setbacks. When an employee leaves, training their replacement is a breeze since all of their tasks have been documented and refined over time. Easy for team refinement. The system makes it easy for my team to make processes more efficient over time as we hone each step in any given process. Reduces errors and re-do’s. Procedures are easy to follow, illustrated with screenshots, videos and checkboxes to ensure no steps are missed. Adds value to my business. A business built on a foundation of well-documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) has a higher value, which grows over time. Forces me to evaluate processes. As I think through the steps, I am forced to ask, “Is this the best way to do this?” I have discovered and eliminated many inefficiencies as a result. Better than Word, Google Docs, or other apps. SweetProcess is more elegant, custom-built for the task, easy to use and keep up to date, and “siloed” from other systems. And it's just more fun to use!
