Pero Josephine Baker también ha pasado a la historia como integrante de la resistencia francesa ante la ocupación nazi y como activista contra la discriminación racial. Por eso en 2021 se convirtió en la sexta mujer y la primera de piel negra acogida con honores en el Panteón de París. Nacida en Saint Louis (Estados Unidos), vivió una infancia de pobreza y exclusión. El baile, la música y el teatro fueron primero vía de escape y pronto, una profesión. Despunta en Nueva York por la voluptuosidad de sus pasos y una inimitable vis cómica. Contratada para un espectáculo en París, en 1925 cruza el Atlántico. Llevando al extremo el cliché del primitivismo, Baker se hará famosa por su danza salvaje, que despierta admiración y rechazo a partes iguales. Dentro de sus giras internacionales visitará España en los años treinta. A esas alturas ya es una estrella internacional de la danza, el cine y la canción. Cuando Francia declara la guerra a Alemania, viajará al frente para animar a las tropas y, tras la derrota, se enrolará en la resistencia. Después de la contienda se implica en la lucha contra el racismo, compromiso que extiende a su vida familiar al adoptar una docena de huérfanos de diversas procedencias: su famosa tribu arcoíris.Este documental, con guion de Antonio Delgado y diseño sonoro de Mayca Aguilera, reconstruye la decisiva travesía que la trajo de joven a Europa a bordo del paquebote Berengaria. También investiga sus actividades de espionaje en los archivos de la inteligencia militar francesa, que custodia su expediente. But He rebukes them for leaving their first love—their affection for Christ has cooled even while their activity stayed high (v.4). The remedy is threefold: Remember where you were, Repent (change your mind and direction), and Return to the first works—simple, love-driven devotion (v.5). If they refuse, He will remove their lampstand (their witness/influence).
