Remember those classic horror films that kept us glued to our seats as kids? Chad revisits those nostalgic jump scares in our latest episode of "Screams & Streams," where we take a deep, fun-filled dive into the 1981 slasher flick, "Friday the 13th Part 2." Join us as we unravel the chilling return of Jason Voorhees to Camp Crystal Lake and share our mixed bag of reactions—from spine-tingling memories to the predictable yet delightful clichés this genre is famous for. Did we mention there's a Crystal Lake Chiller cocktail to accompany our horror tales? You'll laugh and possibly cringe as we pick apart the film's most awkward moments. From wardrobe malfunctions to the classic "I'll be right back" trope, our conversation is sprinkled with humor and disbelief. Ever wondered why characters insist on making the worst possible decisions, like strolling around in their undies or riding unsecured in the back of a truck? We certainly did, and we're here to question their logic—or lack thereof. It's all a part of the endearing absurdity that makes these films timelessly entertaining. Finally, let's talk trivia! Discover behind-the-scenes tidbits that could make even the most die-hard fans raise an eyebrow. From on-set mishaps to the inexplicable mysteries like a toilet in a plumbing-less shack, we cover it all. Our exploration even touches on those scenes that didn't make the cut and the real-life eerie experiences of the cast, offering a peek behind the cinematic curtain. Whether you're a horror buff or just along for the ride, our blend of nostalgia, humor, and critique promises a spine-chillingly good time. Text us and say hello! In episode 29 of "Backwards Compatible," we're gearing up for the spooky season with a deep dive into the notorious "Friday the 13th" on NES. This game has often been maligned in the gaming community, a sentiment that was amplified by the Angry Video Game Nerd's scathing review nearly two decades ago. However, I have a personal history with this game—it's one of my favorite NES titles, and I'm excited to share a different perspective on it.Throughout this episode, Lou and I explore the unique aspects of "Friday the 13th," from its ambitious attempt to translate a horror movie franchise into an 8-bit video game to its notoriously challenging gameplay. We discuss why this game has been both criticized and misunderstood, and I aim to set the record straight on some of its more controversial elements. As we dissect the game's mechanics and its eerie atmosphere, I'll share why "Friday the 13th" holds a special place in my gaming collection despite its infamous reputation. And for those brave enough to tackle Camp Crystal Lake themselves, stick around until the end of the episode. I'll be sharing 13 essential tips on how to beat this game—yes, contrary to popular belief, it is indeed beatable. Join us for this Halloween-themed episode as we attempt to do justice to one of the most polarizing games on the NES.Support the showWe've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)

1981's Friday the 13th Part 2. Five years after the events of the first film, a summer camp next to the infamous Camp Crystal Lake is preparing to open, but the legend of Jason is weighing heavy on the proceedings. Jenn from My Streaming Bubble joins us to chat about this cult classic. We were still confused as to where Jason's mask is. But we had a good time talking to our friend about this movie. Cheapseat Reviews the podcast that explores the Hollywood film industry for the greater good.
This week Kevin takes the lead; Mike talks anime and a big ass monitor. David talks Abbott Elementary. Kevin hits us with the H. P. Lovecraft Society and some talk about The Real Ghostbusters. There's a curse at Camp Crystal Lake. It's going to be a Long Night at Camp Blood. Except that didn't turn out to be the title of this movie. The original Friday the 13th cleverly subverts horror tropes by making the killer a middle-aged mother, capitalizing on the fears associated with the number 13, as well as the success of Halloween in 1978.Betsy Palmer's portrayal of Pamela Voorhees, who only shows up in the final moments, makes her one of horror's most subversive, and yet misremembered villains. Remember that scene in Scream? The answer is not Jason Voorhees, but it is for the myriad sequels to follow...With memorable effects by Tom Savini, the success of Friday the 13th led to a surge of slasher movies throughout the early 1980s, not all as successful as this one, and also led to the death of the slasher, until A Nightmare on Elm Street came along to revive it... They all should have listened to Crazy Ralph! This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: OP3 - https://op3.dev/privacy
Last weekend, without any pre-planning, two of our NJITW stalwarts did some very Jersey things: Mike D and his family went to Camp NoBeBosCo, better known to horror fans as Camp Crystal Lake. Geth and his family wound up on an impromptu trip to the legendary Wild West City, and the experience was head spinning. We discuss both in this episode, along with shout outs to the Great Divide campground and the legendary Cliff's Dairy. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. This week on Thirsty for Gore, Aleks and Milenko tackle the ultimate 80s slasher showdown with Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter! Much like the Rocky IV of the franchise, this one cranks the American excess to 11—packed with non-stop action, insane kills, and peak 80s craziness. The brothers are all in on this fan-favorite, loving every over-the-top moment as Jason delivers his most brutal, high-octane rampage yet. Tune in for a high-energy breakdown of why this movie is the true heart of the series, embodying everything wild and unforgettable about 80s horror.
Things get weird this week on Thirsty for Gore as Aleks and Milenko dive into Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning! This entry takes the franchise into zany, bizarre territory, with a sleazy vibe that's no surprise given the director's porno background. While the movie continues the intriguing Tommy Jarvis storyline, it also feels like a fever dream of questionable choices, outrageous moments, and the kind of campiness you can't unsee. It's a fascinatingly weird but objectively terrible film, and the brothers have an absolute blast breaking down the chaos and what it adds—if anything—to Jason lore. Get ready for a hilarious, in-depth discussion of one of the franchise's strangest and most infamous entries!
Spoilers ahead homies! Movie breakdowns start at 9:03. We're back and with another fireside chat at Camp Crystal Lake! Although, this place looks a little different than when we last left. Meet our newest main man Tommy Jarvis as we get into The Final Chapter, A New Beginning, and Jason Lives. Also, Roshane's never seen these before!!
We're gearing up for our slow boat ride to New York as we prepare to talk about Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan! You'll hear us chat about how the title of this movie is a broken promise until the final few minutes of the movie but how much we love it when we finally get to Manhattan, what works and what doesn't work about the boat trip from Camp Crystal Lake to New York and musings about what the movie thinks about the horrors of New York including rats, muggers who reside exclusively at the dock and toxic waste. The boys are buzzing with excitement on this week's Thirsty for Gore as Aleks and Milenko dive into Friday the 13th Part 3—and they love it! Jason finally steps into his iconic look, and the brothers can't get enough of the 3D gore, campy kills, and next-level fun this entry brings. From the unforgettable hockey mask debut to the creative carnage, this is exactly the kind of slasher insanity they've been waiting for. Tune in for an episode full of gleeful praise as they revel in the madness and celebrate one of the high points of the franchise.
Aleks and Milenko are back and finally feeling the hype! This week on Thirsty for Gore, the brothers tackle Friday the 13th Part 2 and can't help but notice the huge leap in quality. With a bigger budget, tighter direction, and—yes—a more formidable Jason (sort of), this sequel gives them hope for the franchise's bloody future. The pacing's sharper, the kills are nastier, and the energy is way up, making the brothers excited for what's to come. Tune in as they celebrate a slasher that finally delivers the thrills they've been waiting for!
This week on Thirsty for Gore, Aleks and Milenko reluctantly dive into the slasher that started it all—Friday the 13th (1980). The brothers, infamously not Jason guys, are less than impressed with the iconic campy killer's first outing. But don't count them out just yet—they're holding out hope that things will pick up as they slash their way through the rest of the franchise. Expect brutal honesty, laughs, and a few groans as they dissect what works (and what definitely doesn't) in this lackluster start to the series.
We're still so proud of ourselves here at SlashU for completing 150 numbered episodes that we decided to just continue riding the Friday the 13th train by covering the 2009 "remake." Although the argument could be made that this is actually Friday the 13th Part 11, since it's a bit of a 'spiritual sequel' to the 1980 movie. A group of campers out to find a hidden crop of weed in the woods end up camping near the old abandoned Camp Crystal Lake. They unfortunately find out that Jason Voorhees is very much a real threat and that they should have just went to a dispensary.Follow on on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastCheck out the Facebook page tooEmail us at SlashUpodcast@gmail.comClick any of the "buy stuff" links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. This week on the Geek Garage podcast, we're diving deep into the wild world of Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)! In The New Blood, Jason Voorhees faces off against Tina, a troubled teen with telekinetic powers, leading to an epic showdown of supernatural vs. slasher. In Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason leaves Camp Crystal Lake behind and wreaks havoc on a cruise ship before arriving in the Big Apple—though he doesn't get there until the final act.We hit many highlights and bizarre moments, from Tina's Carrie-like powers to Jason's surprisingly limited time in Manhattan, and sharing our thoughts on why these two entries miss the mark in the franchise. Plus, we dive into other films that deal with telekinesis and the unique way movies have captured Manhattan's essence, often better than Jason did!Tune in for killer trivia, sharp commentary, and our honest takes on these divisive films! If you enjoy our show, please leave us a rating & review on Spotify and Apple Podcasts!Facebook Page | Facebook Group | Instagram | Patreon
We've made it to 150 episodes! Thank you so much to everyone who has been along for the ride that is SlashU for these last 4 years. We've come a long way from a dinky little poorly recorded podcast all the way to a much better sounding dinky little podcast. And this week we decided to tackle one of the best all-time OG Slashers that spawned so many things throughout this wonderful genre that we love. We're talking about 1980's "Friday the 13th." It's only fitting to cover a classic in celebration of our 150th 'canon' episode. When a group of camp counselors set out to fix up old, closed-down Camp Crystal Lake, they discover someone doesn't want the camp to reopen. Laci and Matt are off to learn how to be better camp counselors by getting back to basics. Safety. Canoeing. Shooting arrows. Singing “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley.” Making love and drawing the ire of Mrs. Voorhees. Trying to keep their bodies fragrance free, so as not to attract bears. On a totally unrelated note, this episode is about Friday the 13th Part 2, Matt's favorite entry in his favorite horror series. It's the debut of Jason as the killer, although he still hasn't quite nailed his look. Still, it's an absolute blast and a wonderful time capsule of the 1970s turning into the ‘80s. So put on your little Mickey Mouse shirt and even littler short pants and join us at Camp Crystal Lake… actually, this one's at Camp Packanack, but it's all kind of the same.
