Racing up Pikes Peak might seem like a death wish to outsiders, but for automotive daredevils, it represents the ultimate adrenaline rush. This episode takes you inside the 103-year-old Pikes Peak International Hill Climb through the eyes of Richard Tomlin from Apex Auto Works, whose passion for this legendary race is as steep as the mountain itself. The conversation reveals surprising statistics about Texas representation at this iconic Colorado event, where six cars from the Lone Star State make up nearly 10% of the 74-car field. Richard shares fascinating insights into the engineering behind modern roll cages—technology literally tested by drivers who've hit mountain rocks at 95 miles per hour and walked away unscathed. What does it take to race up a mountain with 156 turns and 12 hairpin bends, where one wrong move means a deadly plunge? We explore the detailed credentials required, the early-morning race schedules that begin before dawn, and the unpredictable weather conditions that had crews plowing hail off the track this year. For classic car enthusiasts, our Hemings Sold Cars Roundup segment delivers fascinating glimpses into the collector market. From a 1965 Corvette that commanded $82,950 to a surprisingly affordable 1972 Ford F100 pickup that sold for under $10,000, we break down what makes these vehicles valuable in today's market. The episode wraps with automotive news headlines, including Ram's industry-leading decision to extend powertrain coverage to 10 years/100,000 miles and the first decline in US electric vehicle registrations in 14 months. Whether you're a thrill-seeker, a classic car collector, or simply automotive-curious, this episode delivers insights from the extreme edge of car culture.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links.

The triumphant return of the HEMI V8 engine to Ram trucks headlines this information-packed episode featuring Nick Cappa, Ram Trucks Communications Manager. Customer demand has spoken loudly, bringing back this iconic powerplant that so many truck enthusiasts crave for its distinctive sound, predictable torque, and authentic driving experience.Ram isn't simply reintroducing the HEMI—they're enhancing it with valuable additions including the eTorque mild hybrid system for improved efficiency, a specially tuned exhaust system that amplifies that beloved V8 rumble, and a generous 33-gallon fuel tank for extended range. The response has been overwhelming, with dealer orders quickly reaching allocation limits, demonstrating the passionate following this engine commands. While celebrating the HEMI's comeback, Ram maintains its forward-thinking approach with the impressive Hurricane engine, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six producing up to 540 horsepower in its high-output configuration. This engineering marvel exemplifies Ram's commitment to providing a comprehensive powertrain lineup that gives customers genuine choice—from the entry-level Pentastar V6 to the high-performance Hurricane and now, once again, the legendary HEMI V8.The episode also reveals significant updates to Ram's Heavy Duty lineup, including standardizing the high-output Cummins 6.7-liter diesel (delivering a massive 1,075 lb-ft of torque) across all diesel HD models. Plus, recognizing that most truck loans now extend beyond seven years, Ram introduces "America's best full-size limited powertrain warranty"—a 10-year/100,000-mile protection plan providing unprecedented peace of mind for truck buyers making long-term investments.Excitement continues to build with Ram's return to NASCAR's Truck Series in 2025, announced with a spectacular reveal featuring pyrotechnics and a high-performance demonstration. Ready to experience what's driving Ram's resurgence? Tune in to discover why this iconic American truck brand continues to resonate with drivers who demand both heritage and innovation.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Ever wonder what happens when engineering goes too far? That's the question we tackle head-on as we dive into Chevrolet's most extreme creation yet - the 2026 Corvette ZR1X. With a jaw-dropping 1,250 horsepower and the ability to hit 60 mph in under two seconds, this electrified beast pushes boundaries in ways that left us asking "why?" and "for whom?" Our spirited debate explores the fascinating intersection of automotive excess and genuine innovation. Is this twin-turbo V8 hybrid merely an engineering flex to compete with European exotics like Ferrari and McLaren, or does it represent meaningful advancement in performance technology? The answer, we discover, lies somewhere in the tension between racing-derived technology and practical application. For those seeking something more aligned with real-world needs, our comprehensive review of the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban High Country offers a compelling alternative. This rolling home on wheels showcases impressive evolution with its 3.0-liter Duramax turbo diesel that delivers robust performance (305hp/495lb-ft) while achieving a surprising 22 mpg combined. With luxurious appointments, independent rear suspension, and the ability to tow nearly 8,000 pounds, it represents a more practical application of automotive engineering excellence. We also uncover a shocking story of automotive theft - not of vehicles, but of parts directly from Ford assembly plants. Our Motor Minute details how a former employee allegedly orchestrated a multi-million dollar criminal enterprise, stealing brand-new components and selling them online for years before being caught. It's a cautionary tale about the value chain of automotive parts and the risks of purchasing outside authorized channels.Whether you're fascinated by the limits of automotive performance, shopping for a premium family vehicle, or simply enjoy our no-nonsense approach to car talk, this episode delivers honest perspectives from decades of automotive experience. Scott Ingram's orange 1932 Ford coupe gleams in the Texas sun, but this isn't some pampered show car – it's traveled 350,000 miles over 57 years and counting. As one of the seven original founders of the Lone Star Street Rod Association, 78-year-old Scott embodies the true spirit of hot rodding: build it, drive it, enjoy it."I've been coast to coast, border to border," Scott explains with evident pride, recalling adventures from deer hunting trips to cross-country journeys. When asked if he'd ever part with his beloved '32, his answer comes without hesitation: "I'll give it away before I sell it. It's not for sale." This isn't just transportation – it's family.Beyond his street rod, Scott's technical expertise shines when discussing his nitro-fueled front-engine dragster powered by a heavily modified flathead Ford. The numbers are staggering: 317 cubic inches producing 554 horsepower. "It's good for one thing – going down the quarter mile," he chuckles, before diving into fascinating details about hand-seated valves, custom gaskets, and the challenges of running nitromethane. For Scott, maintaining these machines isn't work – it's passion made tangible. What makes this conversation truly special is how it captures the essence of car culture: the vehicles bring people together initially, but the relationships endure far beyond metal and rubber. "I've got people here I've talked to yesterday and today that I've known for 50 years," Scott reflects, reminding us that while cars evolve, the community they create becomes the real treasure.Whether you're a dedicated gearhead or simply appreciate stories of lifelong passion, Scott's journey offers inspiration and entertainment in equal measure. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The ever-present and always hot button issue here in the US: Immigration. Be it legal, illegal, or historical; we just can't seem to stop arguing over it. For that reason, we're joined today by someone who grew up in a split migrant family, who can give us some honest perspective. Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts. My guest today is Lupe Christensen. Lupe was without a father or mother for most of her first decade of life; because they were forced to flee their home country to try and provide the minimal quality of life for their children. And as with many immigration topics, so often it is boiled down to what is illegally happening at the southern boarder; but the truth is that American citizens are truly struggling with some of the same problems just trying to bring their legal spouses and children into the states. ( https://a.co/d/7uzcCHq take you to: Www.Amazon.Com "Where Money Grows on Trees: An Immigrant's Journey of Courage, Resilience, and Love" ) Let's change our point of view! Hopefully this has opened your eyes a bit, if you've never considered the contained lifestyle. I know so many of us today have friends that are immigrants from one country or another, and it can be very hard. In ranking news... June is halfway over, and the global ranks are updated: 1. The United States, with Florida, California, and Wisconsin at the top. 2. England of the United Kingdom, just barely over Scotland. 3. Canada, with Ontario just barely ahead of British Columbia. 4. Australia, with Queensland and Victoria tied. 5. New Zealand, just ahead of the Netherlands and Denmark. That's it for this week! Have a great week, a great weekend, and I'll see you all back here next week for another new episode! Jim McDonald, President and CEO of Kootenay Silver (TSX.V:KTN – OTCQX: KOOYF), joins me to unpack the news out June 17th announcing the completion of the high-grade maiden Mineral Resource Estimate on its 100%-owned Columba Silver Project, located in Chihuahua, Mexico. Key takeaways from this Maiden Mineral Resource Estimate at the Columba Project: 54.1 Moz of silver, 25.2 Mlbs of lead, and 65.6 Mlbs of zinc (Inferred category) 5.92 Mt grading 284 gpt silver, 0.19% lead, and 0.50% zinc All the mineralized veins remain wide open to expansion along strike, to depth or both. Vein continuity is excellent 5 to 6 meters Vein width average across all zones Silver grades are excellent across the mineralized structures We discuss the benefit of the 54 million ounce resource being in pure silver, but also still having extra lead and zinc mineralization above the headline number. Jim mentions that some areas of mineralization at depth may lend to higher pockets of base metals and will be explored with future drilling. With regards to the silver mineralization having the average grade of 284 grams per tonne (gpt), Jim puts this in context with other silver mines in Mexico and globally that are in production at much lower levels, and this is why the company used a 150 gpt economic mining cutoff grade for this resource. The Company will continue with step out drilling of several kilometers of undrilled veins, as well as selective infill on wide-spaced intervals on the known D, B, F, I, and Lupe veins. Jim highlights that their exploration team has designed an additional 50,000 meters of drilling planned at Columba, with the first 20,000 to 30,000 meters focused on expanding the known resource. Jim also compares Columba's wide, high-grade intercepts to the other more bulk-tonnage resources that the Company has in their portfolio of other projects, outlining this being Kootenay's most promising project to date; but also pointing out that Kootenay Silver's combined resources at all projects is well over 300 million ounces of silver equivalent, and should have good leverage to rising underlying metals prices. If you have any follow up questions for Jim please comment below or email us at Fleck@kereport.com or Shad@kereport.com. In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Kootenay Silver at the time of this recording, and may choose to buy or sell shares at any time. Click here to follow the latest news from Kootenay Silver
Hot rods, salt flats, and the sweet sound of engines revving—welcome to a special episode of the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show, broadcast live from the 50th anniversary of the Lone Star Street Rod Association State Run in Granbury, Texas. The centerpiece of our show features Don Grouleff and his remarkable Model A hot rod, emblazoned with the racing number 731. Don's story captivates as he recounts pushing this classic Ford to a breathtaking 196 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats. With a twinkle in his eye, Don shares how he once spun backward through the timing lights at nearly 190 mph—and still set a speed record. His vintage hot rod, featuring kingpin suspension and an old-school Muncie M-22 four-speed transmission, represents the perfect marriage of traditional aesthetics and high-performance engineering.Don's journey from crop duster pilot to speed enthusiast offers a fascinating glimpse into the mindset required for both professions. After 35 years flying dangerously close to power lines and terrain, he found similar thrills and focus requirements on the salt flats of Bonneville. Now settled in Texas after leaving his California almond farm behind, Don continues to cherish this Model A that holds multiple speed records, including one that still stands at Muroc Dry Lake on Edwards Air Force Base.We also pay tribute to Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson, who recently passed away at 82. Wilson's automotive-themed classics like "409," "Little Deuce Coupe," and "Fun, Fun, Fun" helped define American car culture and provided the soundtrack to generations of hot rodders. Between interviews, we discuss concerning automotive industry news, including potential tariff increases and predictions of significant financial challenges ahead for global automakers.Whether you're a hot rod enthusiast, speed demon, or automotive history buff, this episode delivers the authentic stories and technical insights that make American car culture so enduring. The rumble of engines, gleaming chrome, and stories spanning generations fill the air as we broadcast live from the Lone Star Street Rod Association's 50th Anniversary State Run in Granbury, Texas. Father's Day weekend provides the perfect backdrop for this celebration of automotive passion that bridges past and present. Our first guest, Steven Rogers, exemplifies this connection with his beloved 1966 Chevrolet truck. For 31 years, this vehicle has been his constant companion – from high school daily driver to weekend cruiser. "It was in good shape when we got it. We've done things to it along the way," he shares, detailing upgrades from the original 283 engine to a 350 small block and the addition of an overdrive transmission to better handle modern highway speeds. What makes Rogers' story particularly poignant is how he's successfully passed his passion to his teenage children, who now eagerly anticipate this annual gathering.Between guests, we explore the fascinating history of hot rod culture, which emerged primarily from post-WWII California as enthusiasts modified pre-war cars for increased performance. From traditional T-buckets and Deuce coupes to modern interpretations with advanced technology, the hot rod community continues to thrive by balancing innovation with reverence for automotive history. Our conversation shifts to the current automotive landscape, including concerning recalls affecting major manufacturers and how buying priorities have evolved across generations. While older enthusiasts often selected vehicles based on engine options and modification potential, today's market reflects different values – raising questions about the future of automotive individuality in an era moving toward standardization.Throughout the park, fathers introduce children to the joy of motorsports and mechanical tinkering, ensuring these traditions continue despite industry changes. The event isn't just a display of remarkable vehicles; it's a community sharing stories, techniques, and the universal pleasure of automotive creativity.Join our community of car enthusiasts by subscribing to the podcast and following us on social meBe sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. LADYLIKE - Die Podcast-Show: Der Talk über Sex, Liebe & Erotik
Step into the high-octane world of automotive excellence as we go behind the scenes with Gary Peterson, President of Shelby American. From the company's iconic Las Vegas facility, Peterson reveals the meticulous process of transforming standard Ford Mustangs into 810-horsepower Shelby GT350s that carry the legacy of Carroll Shelby's performance philosophy."We take a fairly regular or ordinary car and make it spectacular," Peterson explains, detailing how each $110,000 Shelby GT350 receives a custom aluminum hood with functional vents, a 3-liter Whipple supercharger, and unique interior touches that set it apart from standard Mustangs. Every vehicle carries a registered Shelby serial number to protect authenticity and investment value – a testament to the company's commitment to excellence since 1962.What makes these vehicles truly remarkable isn't just their breathtaking performance, but their everyday practicality. Despite supercar-level horsepower, each comes with a three-year warranty and can be financed through traditional channels. Peterson guides potential buyers through the purchasing process, recommending Shelby.com as the starting point to configure their dream machine before connecting with one of 200 authorized dealers.Shifting gears dramatically, we explore the surprisingly impressive 2025 Buick Invista – a vehicle that defies the current market's $50,000 average price trend with a starting MSRP of just $22,900. Despite its modest 1.2-liter turbocharged engine, this Korean-built compact delivers outstanding fuel economy, upscale interior materials, and surprisingly generous passenger space. For anyone seeking affordable style and practicality, this sleek, modern offering deserves serious consideration.Ready to experience automotive passion at either end of the spectrum? Mike Mueller's passion for America's sports car radiates throughout our conversation about his newly released fifth edition of "The Complete Book of Corvette." Weighing in at a hefty 15 pounds and spanning 352 pages of stunning photography and detailed history, this comprehensive volume tracks the complete evolution of Corvette from its earliest days through the latest C8 models. What makes this book truly special isn't just the technical specifications or beautiful imagery—it's the human stories woven throughout. Mueller shares personal anecdotes about meeting Corvette legends, including his memorable encounter with Zora Arkus-Duntov at the 1994 grand opening of the Corvette Museum. "These aren't just cars," Mueller reminds us. "These are cars designed and built by men and women... and Corvette is a prime example."The interview offers fascinating glimpses into automotive publishing, from Mueller's journalism beginnings at the University of Illinois to his current status as author of approximately fifty automotive books. He explains how his process has evolved over three decades—from physically visiting GM archives to select photos to now having digital access to their extensive image database, sometimes supplemented by collaborations with other automotive journalists for those hard-to-find technical shots.Beyond Corvette talk, our show ventures into car culture with Jeff's exploration of racing superstitions—from Talladega's haunted reputation to drivers' rituals involving lucky helmets and pre-race bologna sandwiches. For those seeking driving adventures, Mars introduces the "Twisted Sisters," a thrilling 100-mile Hill Country loop featuring 65 curves in just a 15-mile stretch, along with family-friendly destinations like Garner State Park and the Cave With No Name.Whether you're shopping for Father's Day or simply appreciate automotive excellence, this episode celebrates the passion, craftsmanship, and human stories behind America's most iconic sports car. Was steckt dahinter? Justine Lupe thought there was no way she'd ever be able to top the experience of playing Willa on HBO's ‘Succession.' Then she got cast as Morgan, one of the “loser siblings” on the runaway Netflix hit ‘Nobody Wants This.' They are two very different roles on two very different shows, but she says on this episode that she feels extremely “lucky” to get the opportunity to show both comedic and dramatic sides of herself on each. Fresh off of wrapping filming for Season 2 of ‘Nobody Wants This,' Lupe talks about the pressure of satisfying fan expectations for her character's complicated relationship with Timothy Simons' Sascha. And she opens up about her deeply rewarding experience on ‘Succession,' which was only supposed to be a handful of episodes before Willa became a central character, and even part of the Roy family, all the way until the very end. Ford's Vice Chair John Lawler recently dropped a bombshell that's sent ripples through the automotive world: combustion engines will no longer be brand differentiators and automakers will increasingly source them from suppliers to stay competitive against low-cost rivals, particularly from China. For generations, car manufacturers have built their identities around their signature powertrains – Ford's EcoBoost, Chrysler's HEMI, Chevy's small-block V8s – engines that enthusiasts could identify by sound alone. But according to Lawler, "consumers don't really think about powertrains the way they did 30 years ago." The shift toward hybridization has already begun stripping away the unique characteristics of combustion engines as electric motors increasingly provide power boosts and emission reductions. We dubbed this the "skateboard effect" – the standardization that began with electric vehicles is now creeping into traditional combustion engine territory. This raises profound questions about brand identity, warranties, and consumer choice. If Ford, Chevy, and Ram all use identical engines from the same supplier, how will they differentiate their trucks beyond cosmetics and features? What happens when an outsourced engine faces recalls – will we see industry-wide disruptions similar to the Takata airbag crisis? And perhaps most importantly, what does this mean for performance vehicle segments and enthusiast markets that have thrived on distinctive powertrains? This philosophical shift signals how dramatically electrification has changed the industry's trajectory, even for traditional combustion vehicles. While average consumers might not notice the difference, this potential outsourcing strategy represents perhaps the most fundamental change to how cars are designed, built, and marketed since the mass production of the automobile began. Join us as we explore what this means for the future of automotive enthusiasm and brand loyalty in an increasingly homogenized market.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. What makes a Porsche feel unlike any other car on the road? That's the question we explore with automotive author Randy Leffingwell as he joins us to discuss his definitive work, "Porsche 911: Every Model Since 1964." In this fascinating conversation, Randy shares how his lifelong passion for these iconic German sports cars began with his uncle's Porsche Speedster and eventually led to unprecedented access to Porsche's archives, testing facilities, and engineering teams.Randy takes us behind the scenes of Porsche's legendary development process at their Vysok facility, where cars are subjected to punishing tests until components fail—only to be strengthened and tested again. We learn about the infamous "ruttel stroker" track that simulates earthquake-damaged cobblestone streets and features a jump that launches vehicles into the air. This relentless pursuit of perfection helps explain why Porsche's handling and performance characteristics feel so distinctive compared to other manufacturers. The conversation reveals how the controversial decision to create the Cayenne SUV saved both the company and the 911 model during a financial crisis when Porsche was at risk of being sold to competitors like Mercedes or General Motors. Though purists initially balked at the idea of a Porsche SUV, its spectacular success generated the resources needed to continue developing the sports cars that define the brand's heritage. For Porsche enthusiasts and automotive history buffs alike, this episode provides rare insights into the engineering philosophy and business decisions that have shaped one of the world's most respected automotive manufacturers. Whether you're a dedicated Porsche owner or simply appreciate the artistry of exceptional vehicles, Randy's expertise and storytelling make this a must-listen episode.Check out "Porsche 911: Every Model Since 1964" on Amazon or through motorbooks.com. HINTERGRUNDINFORMATIONEN 1. Dive into the surprising economics of grassroots motorsports as we uncover a factory stock race offering an astonishing $30,000 to win, attracting 137 entries from across the region. Our special guest Rodney Rodriguez, track announcer extraordinaire, breaks down how these seemingly "affordable" race cars have evolved into sophisticated machines costing upwards of $30,000 despite rules designed to keep competition accessible. The conversation takes a fascinating turn when we explore the tension between racing tradition and modern broadcasting as NASCAR's move to Amazon Prime raises questions about accessibility. Should certain iconic races remain available to everyone? Our hosts passionately argue that racing's crown jewel events represent cultural touchstones that transcend streaming subscriptions. For automotive enthusiasts, our comprehensive review of the 2025 Dodge Durango R/T highlights this muscle SUV's enduring appeal despite its aging platform. With 360 horsepower from its 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and an impressive 8,700-pound towing capacity, the Durango continues to offer something increasingly rare in today's market: unapologetic American muscle in family-friendly form.We also dive into the controversy surrounding three disqualified Indy 500 drivers, including second-place finisher Marcus Ericsson, who faced substantial penalties following post-race inspections. What exactly were they doing to find an edge? And we celebrate the 100th anniversary of an unlikely automotive icon – the Goodyear Blimp.Join us for our special upcoming broadcast on June 12th from the 50th anniversary Lone Star Street Rod Association State Run in Granbury, airing at the special time of 9am to noon. Ever wonder why some people don't move for ambulances? Or what makes Port Aransas the perfect beach getaway? Or perhaps why the Dodge Durango still commands respect after 14 years with the same design? We tackle all these questions and more in this fascinating exploration of automotive culture and travel destinations. We kick things off with a detailed breakdown of ambulance manufacturing and classification. These life-saving vehicles are constructed in two distinct phases by different manufacturers - from the initial chassis to the specialized emergency equipment integration. The four types of ambulances in the United States each serve specific purposes, from advanced life support to patient transfers. And yes, before modern ambulances, converted Buick and Pontiac station wagons served as emergency transport, with medics hunched over in cramped quarters. Our passionate reminder: when you see those flashing lights, move aside immediately - someone's life literally depends on your actions.Looking for the perfect coastal getaway that isn't overcrowded? Port Aransas offers the ideal middle ground between massive tourist destinations and tiny beach towns. With 18 miles of drivable coastline on Mustang Island, exceptional birding opportunities, and surprisingly good marlin fishing thanks to the nearby continental shelf, this Gulf Coast gem has something for everyone. Family-friendly amenities include Roberts Point Park for the little ones, while nature enthusiasts will love the 1,250-foot boardwalk at the Leonabel Turnbill Birding Center. Just 3.5 hours from Houston, it's an accessible escape with both a ferry ride and beautiful coastal driving. We wrap up with our hands-on review of the 2025 Dodge Durango RT. Despite maintaining essentially the same design since 2011, this muscular SUV continues to impress with its bold styling, bronze wheels, and powerful 5.7-liter V8 pushing 360 horsepower. With an impressive 8,700-pound towing capacity and comfortable SRT seating, it's clear why this three-row SUV still attracts buyers despite newer competition. Check it out if you're shopping for a vehicle with traditional American muscle and substantial utility.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Ever wondered what car you should buy for your teen driver? The latest US News and World Report rankings have just been released, and they're packed with surprises that might change how you approach this important decision.During our conversation with Zach Doell from US News, we uncovered the fascinating dominance of Hyundai in the 2025 Best Cars for Teens rankings. With six models making the list across both new and used categories, the Korean automaker has clearly mastered the delicate balance of safety, affordability, and reliability that parents prioritize when shopping for their teens. The rankings revealed that today's entry-level vehicles offer far more than their modest price tags suggest. Take the Kia Soul, starting at just $20,000 with advanced safety features that were luxury exclusives just a decade ago. As Zach explained, "Basic has changed." Today's affordable models come standard with potentially life-saving technology like automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning, along with teen-friendly features like Apple CarPlay that keep attention focused on the road rather than on phones. We explored the compelling case for both new and certified pre-owned vehicles, with Zach highlighting how favorable financing terms on new cars can sometimes offset their higher initial cost. Meanwhile, gently used vehicles coming off lease can offer substantial savings while still providing most modern safety features.Beyond car shopping, we took a virtual road trip to Port Aransas with Marrs, exploring this perfect family beach destination located on Mustang Island. With 18 miles of drivable beaches, world-class fishing opportunities, bird watching at the Leonabelle Turnbill Birding Center, and family-friendly parks, it's an ideal summer getaway that's neither too crowded like Galveston nor too small like Surfside.Whether you're shopping for your teen's first car or planning your family's summer escape, this episode delivers practical insights to help you make informed decisions that balance safety, value, and enjoyment.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. The humble manual transmission is quietly disappearing from American roads, and most drivers haven't even noticed. Nissan recently halted production of manual transmission Versa for the US market, effectively ending America's last five-speed manual econobox. With fewer than 5% of buyers choosing the stick shift option and automatic transmissions now delivering superior fuel economy (35 mpg vs 30 mpg), the writing is on the wall for the beloved manual gearbox. We explore the technological evolution that's made this possible, from the inefficient two-speed "slush-o-matics" of the 1960s to today's sophisticated multi-speed automatics that shift faster than any human could. The manufacturing complexities of offering both transmission types create additional challenges for automakers already struggling with integration of modern safety features and hybrid powertrains. Our personal experiences with manual transmissions spark a nostalgic conversation about learning to drive stick and the unique connection it creates between car and driver. While enthusiasts may mourn this passing era, the efficiency and convenience of modern automatics simply make more sense for most drivers and manufacturers.Beyond the transmission talk, we cover significant automotive industry news including Nissan's financial struggles (they're planning to cut 20,000 jobs and may sell their global headquarters), GM's $888 million investment shifting from EV production to traditional engines, and Tesla's growing inventory of unsold Cybertrucks being stored in suburban shopping center parking lots.Curious about how we learned to drive stick or want to share your own manual transmission memories? Join the conversation on our social channels and let us know if you'll miss the manual or if you've already embraced the automatic revolution.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links.
