On this episode of Little Column A, Little Column B, hosts Will Alimonos and Zach Bishop tackle a loaded week in sports, highlighted by NBA Finals storylines, blockbuster NFL trades, draft reform debates, and a handful of offseason curiosities. The show opens with shocking NFL trade news before shifting to the NBA, where the hosts break down Oklahoma City's Game 7 loss to San Antonio and what comes next for the Thunder. Will and Zach discuss Chet Holmgren's struggles against Victor Wembanyama, whether OKC should stay patient or pursue major roster upgrades, and potential trade targets ranging from CJ McCollum and Derrick White to blockbuster names like Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The conversation then turns to the NBA Finals matchup between the Spurs and Knicks. The hosts debate whether New York's playoff run has been slightly overhyped, compare coaching, depth, and star power, and offer opposing Finals predictions. They discuss Jalen Brunson's leadership, Wembanyama's dominance, the importance of bench production, and which team is best positioned to win a championship. Beyond the playoffs, Will and Zach dive into the NBA's new lottery rules designed to discourage tanking. They examine how the changes could reshape rebuilding strategies, alter trade-deadline decisions, and force franchises to focus more on player development and smart roster construction instead of intentional losing. The episode also explores John Calipari's proposal to move conference tournaments to the beginning of the college basketball season, weighing the benefits and drawbacks compared to existing early-season events. On the NFL side, the hosts react to two major trades: Miles Garrett landing with the Los Angeles Rams and A.J. Brown joining the New England Patriots. They discuss the cost of each move, team-building philosophies, and what the additions mean for contenders heading into the season. The show also touches on Russell Wilson's reported move to CBS and the growing trend of players transitioning into media careers. The episode closes with a rapid-fire collection of sports topics, including soccer, experimental competitions, technology in sports, and predictions for what to watch in the weeks ahead. 0:00 ... Ross Geiger says hello and introduces co-hosts Bruce Bernstein and Michael "World B" Freer. Show #250 is dedicated to Trey Jemison of the Knicks, who wears #50 for the newly crowned NBA Eastern Conference Champs. 1:07 ... Knicks fan World B shares his thoughts on his team making the Finals after a 26 season drought. 2:10 ... World B had predicted the Knicks to make the Finals in his preseason picks and his aim was true! 3:39 ... Ross tees up a discussion on how the Knicks have grown so much as a team. 4:24 ... Bruce is happiest for Knicks head coach Mike Brown who has led the team to record breaking performances in the playoffs. And they didn't really want to hire him to replace Tom Thibodeau prior to the season but all the other coaches they wanted to interview were not given permission from their teams to speak to New York about the job. So Brown was hired by default and it was a move that has succeeded wildly. 6:16 ... World B gives Brown credit for retooling the Knicks' offensive system and he reels off the numbers that prove it. 8:47 ... Ross wonders whether the Knicks upcoming layoff (as they wait for their Finals opponent) will kill their great momentum? Both Bruce and World B feel like the Knicks are sitting pretty. Ross is concerned how they'll handle any offensive dry spells against the Spurs and Thunder. 13:49 ... If the Spurs beat OKC and play New York in the Finals, Bruce feels like the Knicks will use Karl Anthony-Towns to draw Victor Wembanyama away from the hoop on defense which could allow New York to operate successfully closer to the hoop. 14:48 ... Bruce marvels at how Wemby guards the entire opposing team and how God must be a Spurs fan with Wemby succeeding Tim Duncan and David Robinson as the latest generational big man in San Antonio. 16:37 ... World B reacts to the Spurs big win in game 4 with Wemby leading the way once again. 18:09 ... Bruce points out how Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has struggled offensively against the Spurs and with two key teammates like Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell battling health issues, the Spurs will continue to "throw the kitchen sink" at SGA if they miss more action. The result will be to wear SGA down and that will mean big trouble for OKC. Ross adds some perspective to the OKC offensive struggles. 20:11 ... World B explains how the return of De'Aaron Fox has been really important as far as the offense running smoothly. Ross feels like game 5 is a "must win" game for the Thunder. 22:40 ... Bruce points out that all the NBA awards have been announced except for Coach of the Year and he hopes his preseason prediction of Mitch Johnson winning the award might come true with a trophy presentation prior to game 6 in San Antonio. 24:09 ... The All-NBA Teams were announced over the weekend and the crew does a lightning round commenting on all the members of the first team. Cade Cunningham, SGA, Nikola Jokic, Wemby, and Luka Doncic make up the first team. Bruce has a big issue with one of the first teamers. 29:31 ... The All NBA Second team consists of Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, and Kawhi Leonard. The guys wondered if aging Kawhi Leonard can have another All-NBA season at age 34 after this season's great performance. 36:53 ... The All-NBA third team consists of Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Johnson, Jamal Murray, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Duren. Duren making the third team could really affect his contract negotiations with the Pistons due to the honor making him eligible for a Super Max contract worth $48 million more than he would have qualified for had he not been honored as an All-NBA performer. 45:16 ... We examine the All Defensive teams for the season. The first teamers are Wemby, Holmgren, Ausar Thompson, Derrick White, and Rudy Gobert. Bruce has a summer assigmnent for Thompson. 49:29 ... The second teamers are Scottie Barnes, Cason Wallace, Bam Adebayo, OG Anunoby, and Dyson Daniels. 52:39 ... Final Thoughts: Bruce on how Wemby's main "superpower" cannot be measured by analytics. World B on how the Orlando Magic's search for a new coach is still wide open with many potential great candidates in the mix. Ross closes with his thoughts on two former NBA players facing off in an MMA match in Las Vegas over the weekend. 56:56 ... Ross wraps it up and says goodbye. The Garden Report | Boston Celtics Post Game Show from TD Garden
In one of the biggest upsets of the playoffs, the 7-seed Philadelphia 76ers knocked out the 2-seed Boston Celtics 109-100 in Game 7 on the Celtics' home floor. Joel Embiid was an absolute force with 34 points and 12 rebounds, drawing 14 free throws and imposing his will all night. Tyrese Maxey was equally brilliant — 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists on an absurdly efficient 61% shooting, including a double-double. VJ Edgecombe added a huge 23 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-11 from three. Philly jumped out to a 32-19 first quarter lead, weathered a Boston comeback in the second, then put the game away with a dominant third quarter. For Boston, Jaylen Brown led with 33 points but it wasn't enough — Neemias Queta had a solid 17 and 12 off the bench, and Derrick White scored 26 but on brutal efficiency. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Friday. Munaf Manji and Uncle Diamond Dave Esler close out the week on Cash That Ticket, the sports betting podcast on the Straight Outta Vegas AM feed, with three NBA playoff Game 3s and a full MLB Friday card on the board. The guys are coming off a 3-and-2 individual week and a 6-and-4 combined mark, and they are locked in to finish strong. On the NBA side, the show opens with a deep breakdown of Celtics and 76ers in Philadelphia, where Dave admits he loves the Sixers at plus seven and a half despite his loyalty to Boston, pointing to VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey as two players capable of shooting right over the Celtics defense at home. Munaf fires back with a compelling multi-year trend under head coach Joe Mazzulla showing Boston at 12-and-2 straight up and against the spread in playoff road games following a loss, including five straight covers and seven wins in the last eight such situations, every one by at least eight points. He also notes positive shooting regression is coming for Derrick White, Jayson Tatum, and Sam Hauser after a combined cold night in Game 2. Moving to Houston, the short-handed Lakers hold a stunning two-game series lead with Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart having combined for 48 points in Game 2, and both hosts land on the Lakers plus eight and a half while debating whether the over makes more sense given how suppressed the total has become. Munaf makes the case that Reed Sheppard's 11 minutes of playing time in Game 2 is the single biggest problem for Houston's offense, and he names Kevin Durant points over 23.5 as his prop bet of the night given Durant's 41 minutes of usage and his role as the Rockets' primary scoring option in a must-win home environment. In Portland, Victor Wembanyama's concussion status dominates the conversation as the Spurs arrive with their best player officially listed as questionable. Both hosts lean the over given the pace rankings of both teams and Portland's higher three-point accuracy at home, while Dave endorses the Blazers team total over and names Robert Williams III points, rebounds, and assists over 15 at minus 122 as his best bet of the day, citing Williams' 11-point, nine-rebound, four-assist performance off the bench in Game 2. Munaf backs Jrue Holiday PRA over 27.5 on FanDuel as his other best bet, building the case around Holiday's 30 PRA in Game 2 and his locked-in usage for Portland. On the MLB side, Dave highlights the Nationals and White Sox over as a prime bullpen game spot with favorable weather and two of the worst relief corps in baseball, while Munaf adds the Brewers at plus odds against Paul Skenes, the Yankees team total over against Lance McCullers Jr., and the Cleveland Guardians riding a nine-and-one straight-up after-a-loss trend against Max Scherzer and Toronto. Hello, Friday! Cooling off a bit today & tomorrow before heading into the 70's on Sunday. Got a Pat McCurdy show tonight at the Alpine Inn and tomorrow it's the Between the Bluffs Beverages & Bites Festival at the Festgrounds! In the news this morning, a massive dead snake is dumped on the side of a highway in Iowa, a reclassification of marijuana, an investigation into the dead & missing scientists, and more pics of Mike Vrabel & Dianna Russini. In sports, the Brew Crew dropped another one to the Tigers yesterday, a look at the NBA & NHL Playoffs, a recap of the first round of the NFL Draft, and the Bucks seem to have found their new head coach. We talked about what's on TV this weekend and what's new in theaters. Plus, a glimpse at some of the new music coming out today. Elsewhere in sports, Wemby is traveling with the Spurs this weekend while trying to recover from his concussion, and Derrick White wins the NBA Sportsmanship award. Doc joined us just after 8am to talk NASCAR racing, courtesy of County Materials in Holmen & Eau Claire. Some rules have changed recently, and you may be a Canadian citizen now! If you're looking for a snack later this afternoon, today is "National Pigs in a Blanket Day". Maybe a tray of those in the oven? Cool story about a group of dads in Atlanta trying to encourage their kids to read more, and a wonderful story about a rooster that raised a bunch of money for a family in need in Alabama. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaMan who assaulted a Subway employee, a nature festival that had to clarify that it's NOT a nudist festival, a woman in Texas who was mailing drugs to prison inmates hidden in bibles, a guy suspected of arson arrived at the police station for questioning with singed eyebrows, and a former "druggie" in NYC is suing Amazon for selling him whip-its.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The NBA’s 82-game regular season just wasn’t enough. Thirty teams started the season way back in October. There were 14 teams sent home on vacation in early April. That left 16 still playing with a hope of claiming this year’s NBA title. About those 14 losers… “Inside the NBA” TV analysts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, and host Ernie Johnson, Jr. have uttered their famous “One, Two, Three…Cancun!” vacation salute to the departing teams. In case you might be wondering, the woeful Washington Wizards lost their final ten games of the season to post a 17-65 record. They deserve the title of “Worst team in the NBA” for the 2025-2026 season. The Putrid Pacers of Indiana sputtered into second at 19-63 to finish two games behind Washington. A bronze medal goes to the Brooklyn “Nots” for this year’s lousy 20-62 final record. A draft lottery will be held May 10 to determine the actual draft order for all 30 NBA teams. The 14 non-playoff teams are the only ones with a chance to receive the #1 overall draft selection. A trio of top losers (Washington, Indiana, and Brooklyn) receive a 14% chance of emerging from a rather complicated set of ping-pong ball drawings with the #1 overall selection in the NBA Draft on June 23. The other teams in this year’s NBA draft lottery will be: Utah Jazz – 22-60 – 11.5% chance of obtaining the #1 pick Sacramento Kings – 22-60 – 11.5% chance Memphis Grizzlies – 25-57 – 9% New Orleans Pelicans – 26-56 – 6.8% (pick goes to Atlanta) Dallas Mavericks – 26-56 – 6.8% Chicago Bulls – 31-51 – 4.5% Milwaukee Bucks – 32-50 – 3% Golden State Warriors – 37-45 – 2% Los Angeles Clippers – 42-40 – 1.5% (pick goes to Oklahoma City) Miami Heat – 43-39 – 1% Charlotte Hornets – 44-38 – .5% The New Orleans Pelicans (who have perfected the art of losing) traded away their first round pick for 2026 one year ago in order to acquire the rights to 6’9” Maryland center Derik Queen in 2025. Queen started about half of the Pelicans’ games this season and averaged a pedestrian 12 points and seven rebounds per game. Decisions like that are another reason why New Orleans has failed to reach the Conference finals in every year since the team’s inception in 2002. There are 16 teams participating this week in a best-of-seven first round series The NBA Western Conference produced the two teams with the best overall records in the entire league during the regular season. Defending champion Oklahoma City won 78% of its games to finish 64-18. The Thunder are facing #8 West seed Phoenix in Round 1. The San Antonio Spurs finished second overall this year with a 62-20 record. They are playing the 7th seed Portland Trailblazers in their opening round series. Other Western Conference match-ups include #3 seed Denver Nuggets (54-28) against #6 seed Minnesota and the #4 Los Angeles Lakers (53-29) taking on the fifth-seeded Houston Rockets. In the NBA’s Eastern Conference, the top regular season team was (are you ready?) the Detroit Pistons. Motown’s favorite team posted a 60-22 record and is matched against East #8 seed Orlando in the opening round. The Boston Celtics played most of the season without star forward Jayson Tatum. He’s now back in the line-up for the playoffs. The C’s finished second in the NBA East (56-26) and are playing #7 seed Philadelphia in Round 1. New York’s Knicks finished third (53-29) in the NBA East. They are matched against #6 East seed Atlanta in the first round. The Cleveland Cavaliers came in fourth (52-30) and are playing #5 seed Toronto in another Round 1 match-up. Is LeBron James still playing basketball? Yes, indeed! The 41-year old ageless freight train still plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. He also still bowls-over defenders on his way to the basket – just like he always has. It’s hard to believe that LeBron James (even at age 41) has never averaged less than 20 points per game over any season of his 23 in the league. The rumor mill claims that LeBron isn’t sure whether this year’s NBA playoffs will be the last of his long career. You can be sure that NBC (which is now televising NBA playoff games this year) and ESPN/ABC will be rooting for LeBron’s Lakers to make a very deep run in this year’s playoffs. Teams which live by the 3-point shot… Did you know that the average NBA team attempted 40 three point field goals per game this season? I found it a bit surprising that the majority of the top ten NBA teams taking the most 3-point shots did not qualify for the playoffs. The Boston Celtics (4th in the league in 3-point shots) attempted an incredible 50 3-point shots during a 111-97 home playoff loss to the Philadelphia 76ers Tuesday night. Unfortunately for Celtics fans, the home team connected on just 13 of those attempts (26%). Boston took a total of 89 shots in the game. When a team attempts more than 50% of its shots from long distance, a cold shooting night generally spells doom. Here’s your three-point shooting math lesson for today. Anything above a 33.3% success rate from long-range creates more points for a team than those which convert 50% of traditional two-point baskets. However, attempting too many three point shots in a game may be an indicator that a team is lacking an effective inside presence (aka – a good center). For the record, the Eastern Conference #1 seed Detroit Pistons finished 29th out of 30 teams in 3-point attempts this season with “only” 30 per game. Boston checked-in at #4 (42 per game). Defending champion Oklahoma City was 13th with 36 long-distance tries per game. The NBA average for all shots attempted per game was 90. That means that 44% (40 of 90) shots per game have been three pointers this season. Yes, NBA teams have become quite addicted to three point shooting. Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s Victor Wembanyama! He is 7’4” tall and hard to miss – even on NBA basketball courts. San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama just received every first place vote for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged three blocked shots and 12 rebounds per game this season. He’s no slouch on offense, either. The Spurs’ third-year big man averaged 25 points per game. San Antonio is the #2 Western Conference seed and a legitimate threat to stop Oklahoma City from repeating as NBA champions. San Antonio’s cast of characters surrounding Victor Wembanyama have been improving, too. Guards De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle score 35 points per game between them this year. The San Antonio Spurs have the ingredients to surprise many during these two months of NBA playoff action. Does any team in the NBA East have a legitimate chance to win the title? There’s no question that the Western Conference trio of OKC, San Antonio, and the Denver Nuggets are the odd-on favorites to win the NBA championship this year. Are there any legitimate threats coming out of the NBA’s Eastern Conference? The #1 Eastern Conference seed Detroit Pistons won only 14 games two years ago. This season, the Pistons won 60 to claim the top position in the East. The Pistons play exceptional team defense and possess a deep bench if the team needs a burst of scoring or a fresh defender on the court. Whether Detroit has the ability to withstand playoff pressure and adversity will be determined over the weeks to come. Boston won the NBA title just two years ago. This team still features its “Big Three” of high scoring guard Jaylen Brown, clutch shooting guard Derrick White, and All-Star forward Jason Tatum. The remainder of the Celtics line-up can look like a group of interchangeable parts. Boston’s playoff experience could lead them to the NBA Finals this year. Neither Detroit nor Boston is going to be favored in a match-up vs. the eventual NBA Western Conference winner. The Pistons or Celtics (or whichever team emerges from the NBA East) must play their best basketball of the season in the NBA Finals’ best-of-seven series just to keep it interesting. And the winner is… I feel fairly certain that the NBA Western Conference winner will emerge as the eventual league champion this season. Last year’s Oklahoma City Thunder played better than everyone for the entire season. They were not a surprise champion. If OKC can withstand Denver and San Antonio to win the Western Conference, they will likely bring a second straight NBA championship trophy home to Oklahoma. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Tuesday. Munaf Manji and Dave Esler are back on the Straight Outta Vegas AM feed with a full Tuesday session covering all three NBA playoff Game 2s and a deep pass through the MLB card before landing on official best bets for the night. Dave opens the episode processing a Monday night wash where a Nuggets team total over looked comfortable at halftime before a 21-point Denver fourth quarter killed the ticket, while a Royals-Orioles game over that appeared dead at 1-0 in the ninth inning came alive in extra innings and ended 7-5 in the 13th. The previous episode's best bets went one and one with Donovan Mitchell clearing his 27.5-point prop and Shohei Ohtani's home run at plus-230 falling short after pitchers chose to walk him twice on the night. The first game of Tuesday's playoff card has Boston entering as a 14.5-point favorite over a Philadelphia 76ers team still without Joel Embiid, recovering from appendicitis, and Dave wastes little time making the case for the total staying under for the second straight game after a 32-point Celtics blowout already went under in Game 1 despite Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard combining to shoot just 5-of-23 from three. Munaf leans Sixers team total under and expects another 120-plus performance from Boston once the perimeter shooting corrects. The Spurs-Blazers segment centers on Victor Wembanyama's historic 35-point playoff debut that set a San Antonio franchise record, with Dave making a sharp case for Portland at 11 to 11.5 points and the total going over as both teams figure to shoot closer to normal from three in Game 2 after the Spurs hit 47 percent and the Blazers shot just 26 percent in Game 1. Munaf zeros in on Jrue Holiday, who produced 11 assists and four rebounds on a miserable 4-of-15 shooting night in Game 1 and nearly cleared his combined points-rebounds-assists number anyway, backing Holiday over 26 combined at minus-123 on DraftKings as his best bet of the episode. The Rockets-Lakers game is dominated by the Kevin Durant game-time decision, with both hosts leaning under given Houston's defensive identity and the Lakers playing without Luka Doncic, and Munaf targeting LeBron James's rebounds and assists over and Reed Sheppard's three-point prop as the cleanest plays in an otherwise murky betting environment. Dave goes through the baseball card with a lean on the Reds full game and first five under with Chase Burns against Steven Matz, an over lean in Kansas City behind the wind blowing out and skepticism about Shane Baz and Kris Bubic matching what Kyle Bradish and Seth Lugo did Monday night, a Boston lean in Yankees-Red Sox with Connelly Early against a struggling Luis Gil, and a Cardinals lean over Miami despite some ambivalence about Dustin May facing Chris Paddack. Munaf flags the Guardians' strong bounce-back record but avoids Parker Messick after a 112-pitch no-hit bid in his last outing. Best bets are Nolan McLean carrying the Mets first five innings against a Twins offense that has never faced him and has been among the weakest in the American League, and Jrue Holiday's PRA over 26 combined. I'm back with episode 513 of the State of the New York Knicks podcast, and I recorded this one with fellow Knicks fans as we break down a huge Knicks win over the Celtics. Josh Hart flipped the game on its head, dropping 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter after a brutal first half where he had just 3 points, no rebounds, and a -9, while the defense told the real story all night. Jayson Tatum couldn't get going against Jalen Brunson, going 0/5 when matched up, and also struggled against Mitchell Robinson and KAT, while Hart locked down Derrick White in limited matchup time before hitting two clutch threes in the final 42 seconds to seal it. We also talk about how this win adds to what's becoming a stronger season under Mike Brown compared to last year's 51–31 finish under Tom Thibodeau. The Celtics spent years flirting with greatness and letting teams hang around. Now they're doing the one thing that changes everything in the NBA playoffs: they stop the bleeding fast, they answer runs with force, and they look calm while doing it. We're back on Missing The Point to unpack how Boston turned a season that started wobbly into a legitimate Eastern Conference contender, and why that “champions don't panic” vibe is starting to show up again at exactly the right time. We dig into Jayson Tatum's return and ask the real question Celtics fans care about: when playoff basketball gets gross and physical, do we get the killer takeover version or the ramping-up version? What stands out is how cerebral he looks, how smooth that sidestep jumper is already, and how much cleaner the decision-making feels. Then we get into Jaylen Brown's leap, the 1A vs 1B debate, and why Brown's mid-range shot making can become a postseason pressure valve when the threes stop falling. From there, we give the role players their due. Derrick White gets the spotlight as the guy who makes every possession look more correct, plus we talk bench chaos: Payton Pritchard changing the rhythm, Sam Hauser adding counters, and a deep X factor pick if teams overcommit to the stars. We also name the biggest non-injury concern that could derail the run, and what has to stay true for Boston to reach the Eastern Conference Finals and beyond. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Wednesday. Munaf Manji and Uncle Dave Essler came ready to work on the March 25th edition of Cash That Ticket, rolling through three sports with sharp opinions and sharper picks. The NBA led the charge, with Boston hosting Oklahoma City in what Munaf called a potential Finals preview between two of the three true title contenders in the league alongside San Antonio. The Celtics entered as 2.5-point home underdogs with a total of 218.5, and both hosts landed on Boston, with Dave targeting the Celtics team total over 108.5 at DraftKings as the cleanest angle in the game. The reasoning was airtight. In the previous meeting, Boston shot just 40 percent from the field, got out-rebounded, and still hung 102 points on Oklahoma City, all without Jason Tatum and Derrick White. With both players back in the lineup and Nikola Vucevic the only notable absence on the Boston side due to a right ring fracture, even a modest shooting improvement pushes the Celtics comfortably past that team total. Dave noted he had personally bet Boston the day prior at plus 3.5, a number that had since moved to 2.5, and while he acknowledged the rematch rarely produces the same result, he could not argue against the value Boston represented at home. Munaf was equally firm, backing the Celtics outright and noting their defense would keep Oklahoma City in check on the other end. The Friday Sweet 16 card came next, and the hosts worked through all four matchups in order. Duke opened as a 6.5-point favorite over St. John's with a total of 141.5, and Dave made the case for the Blue Devils while freely admitting a Red Storm victory would not shock him at all. His reasoning centered on Jon Shire's year-over-year improvement at Duke, a neutral-site resume that included wins over Kansas, Arkansas, and Florida, and the fact that St. John's only loss since January came to UConn, a team that plays a style nearly identical to Duke. Rick Pitino received full credit as perhaps the best in-game coach in the sport, but Dave believed Duke gets it done. Michigan State and UConn served up the most creative betting strategy of the episode, with the Huskies laying 1.5 points on a total of just 135.5. Dave went two-part, backing UConn in the first half and the first-half under, then floating the idea of grabbing Michigan State at an improved live number at halftime. Both teams ranked in the top 13 nationally in defensive efficiency, and Dave was emphatic that fading Tom Izzo in the final minutes of a close game is simply not something he is willing to do. Munaf liked Michigan State for the full game and agreed that patience at halftime represented the sharpest path to the number. Iowa State laid 4.5 against Tennessee with a total of 138.5, and both hosts landed on the Cyclones despite the number feeling short. The case against Tennessee was statistical and pointed. The Volunteers turned the ball over more than every SEC team except one, struggled to score consistently, and were poor from the free throw line. Iowa State led the entire Big Ten in turnovers forced, and the teams that beat Tennessee this season did exactly what the Cyclones do best. The Josh Jefferson injury loomed over the entire conversation, but even accounting for his potential absence, neither host could build a convincing case for Tennessee covering. Alabama and Michigan closed the college card with the biggest total on the board at 174.5 and Michigan laying 9.5. Dave went Alabama with the points, crediting the Crimson Tide for handling better tournament competition than Michigan despite missing their suspended star Holloway, while questioning whether the Wolverines had truly been tested after wins over Howard and St. Louis. The MLB segment landed just as the season officially opened, with both hosts aligned on the Boston Red Sox at plus 320 in the AL East, pointing to Garrett Crochet as a Cy Young candidate and the division's best overall rotation. The AL Central produced a split, with Munaf backing Detroit at plus 110 and Dave preferring Kansas City at plus 225 behind Bobby Witt if not the Tigers. Both agreed Seattle wins the AL West at even money, with Dave pitching a creative parlay structure combining the Mariners and Tigers with the Yankees, Red Sox, or Blue Jays for returns between 11-to-1 and 16.5-to-1. The best bets closed the show cleanly. Dave went Auburn minus 9.5 over Nevada in the NIT, citing 12 wins over top-20 opponents for Auburn against a Nevada team whose last true road win came January 17th at Air Force, the 345th-ranked program in college basketball. Munaf laid the big number with San Antonio minus 16.5 against Memphis, pointing to four recent Spurs wins by margins of 28, 1, 15, and 25 points, three of which featured 130 or more points scored, against a Grizzlies squad getting blown out by 39 and 23 in back-to-back outings. Dave endorsed the pick and suggested 16.5 might actually be light. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
