Why does it seem like a lot of court verdicts are being overturned lately? And what exactly does it mean to be a "sanctuary city"? Trey tackles these questions and more on today's Q & Trey (and maybe forgets a question, but it happens to the best of us!). He also breaks down how heavy rain can affect golf play and whether he believes Sam Burns should have been granted relief at the U.S. Open. Learn more about your ad choices. Andy and Brendan are back home after a week in Pittsburgh (which some have called the No. 1 city in Ohio) and begin this episode with some U.S. Open cleanup. They double back on some takes from Sunday's show regarding J.J. Spaun possibly being a "flukey winner" and the Sam Burns rule situation on the 15th hole of Sunday's round. After closing up shop on Oakmont, attention turns to Tuesday's announcement of Brian Rolapp as the first-ever CEO of the PGA Tour. Andy and Brendan run through Rolapp's background as a longtime NFL executive and discuss the plan to "sunset" Jay Monahan at the end of 2026. Picks for this week's Travelers Championship are made, with the added bonus of new headset microphones in rotation! There's some Don Rea chatter ahead of the KPMG Women's PGA in Frisco and more men's major championship golf is on your televisions this weekend at the Kaulig Companies Championship at Firestone. JJ Spaun shocked the field by finishing under par, but was Oakmont playing like its legendary self after all the rain? Will Doctor gives you the sharpest picks for the action at TPC River Highlands -Discussing top 4 names on odds board -2 matchups -1 t10 -3 outrights (+325, 40/1, 110/1) -Sleeper, FRP -Scoring, Best bet For the latest on the world of golf, follow Doc on X @drmedia59 The 2025 Travelers Championship podcast by Will Doctor offers a comprehensive breakdown of the final PGA Tour signature event of the season and a dramatic recap of the U.S. Open at Oakmont. JJ Spahn's emotional and improbable victory—highlighted by a bogey-free 66 in Round 1 and a comeback from five-over through six holes on Sunday—dominates the opening analysis. Spahn's perseverance, bolstered by past experiences like his playoff loss to Rory at Sawgrass and personal life moments, creates one of golf's most compelling storylines this year. Sam Burns, despite leading after 36 holes, faltered on Sunday with a back-nine 5-over but gained praise for his accountability in addressing a controversial rules decision on the 15th hole. Victor Hovland impressed with another top-10 major finish, while Tyrell Hatton and Cam Young finished tied for fourth, each undone by late bogeys. Carlos Ortiz's top-4 finish secured him future major spots and significant earnings. Scottie Scheffler posted a T-7 finish with elite iron play but struggled with driving accuracy. Brooks Koepka showed flashes of his major-winning form with a T-12 finish. Bryson DeChambeau and Keegan Bradley both disappointed due to poor putting and iron play, respectively. Collin Morikawa dazzled tee-to-green but suffered a shocking putting regression. Betting-wise, Will Doctor's card went down 2 units for the week, bringing his YTD loss to 70.7 units. Matchup wins included Rahm over McIlroy and Matsuyama as top Japanese, while Åberg missed the cut as the top Nordic. For the Travelers Championship, Doctor critiques the 72-man no-cut format, urging a return to 120-player fields with cuts and innovations like a shot clock. Course characteristics at TPC River Highlands favor accurate drivers and elite wedge players. Scottie Scheffler headlines as a strong pick at +325 with no statistical weaknesses. Rory McIlroy is passed on due to poor wedge play and fatigue. Morikawa is deemed overpriced despite his iron strength. Schauffele is dismissed for weak wedge approach stats. Matchups include Akshay Bhatia over Sungjae Im and Sepp Straka over Patrick Cantlay, based on wedge stats and recent form. Russell Henley is endorsed as a top-10 pick and outright bet due to his improved putting and elite iron play. Additional outrights include Bud Cauley at 110-1 for his course fit and Scottie Scheffler as the favorite. First-round bet goes to Sam Burns to start strong. Fantasy lineups are provided for both DraftKings and PGATOUR.com formats, featuring Straka, Henley, McIntyre, Spieth, Bhatia, and Cauley. The scoring prediction is -20 under par, with the best bet being Henley top 10 at +275. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
What. A. Weekend. The US Open had everything. Drama, comebacks, fadeouts, bad weather, amazing shots, and on the final day at various times any one of half a dozen players were a genuine chance to win. So good.We do of course start the show by talking about the US Open and the incredible win of J.J. Spaun. Mark talks about how Spaun describes himself as a 'bad luck golfer', but he made his own luck at Oakmont. That final putt was unbelievable. We discuss the comments that his coach made to him during the rain break about 'trying too hard', and Mark compares Spaun's actions in the break to Minnesota Fats in the movie The Hustler. Nick muses about what the scores might have been had the greens been firm, and we talk about that drive on 17 from Spaun. We discuss Adam Scott, a real chance going into Sunday and unfortunately a tough final round so he didn't finish the way he'd have liked. Mark described it as 'brutal to watch'. Nick and Mark discuss Scotty's reputation as a bit serious vs the reality of their experiences with him, and Nick explains why he 'hates Adam Scott'.Nick and Mark give their view on the Sam Burns relief (or lack of) ruling on Sunday, and Mark says whilst the ruling may have been technically correct, it means the rule is wrong.Nick forgot to put his phone on mute before the pod, but it works out well as he gets a text from US Tour Pro Austin Truslow who played the US Open, so we decide to call him back live and have a chat. Austin explains what playing Oakmont was like, how he approached it, and about hitting balls with J.J. Spaun on the Monday prior. Nick asks Austin what a 5-handicapper would shoot at Oakmont. There was some bad behaviour at the Open. Namely Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark. We discuss. In light of Spauns stunning winning putt, the Top 5 from Nick is the 5 greatest shots ever made to win their first mens major. Has he missed one? Competition time. Let us know if there is one Nick has missed and he will choose one wolkfpacker to win a Talk Birdie Prize Pack with $250 to spend at the Golf Clearance Outlet (instore or online) and a team entry into the Golfies 2-person Ambrose event, with the major prize a 25 grand trip to Thailand. Find out details and enter here. Remember - discount code 'Birdies' gets you 40% off your entry. As you'd imagine, feedback is heavily on the US Open today, but Dan gives Mark a whack for fighting with wolfpackers on social media. Mark defends himself saying that some people deserve to be whacked and he is happy to do it. PING globals from Nick, obviously Oakmont, but plenty of other great performances going on including an amazing result from a 15 year old women's amateur beating the pros ! And on Saturday Adam Scott showed some exceptional bunker play, and Marks masterclass today is on Scotty's bunker shots. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Hour 1 with Joe Starkey: JJ Spaun wins the 125th U.S. Open from Oakmont with a 65 foot put to win it. The course was very difficult for players and JJ Spaun was the only player under par. Spaun played in a playoff against Rory McIlroy at The Players championship and it helped lead into winning Oakmont. Rory was angry with the course and snapped at the media. Wyndham Clark damaged part of the clubhouse. Sam Burns wanted relief on 15 and had a bad shot but Bob doesn't think he would have been able to drop.

Shohei Ohtani will be the opener for the Dodgers tonight as his rehab continues in real-time. :30- Mariners Morning After- the Mariners recovered from a rough road trip to sweep the Guardians at home and we really needed that! :45- JJ Spaun wins one heck of a US Open. Beginning at 0:16, Doctor sets the tone with energetic anticipation, positioning Oakmont as a legendary course hosting the U.S. Open for a record tenth time. From 0:43, he sharply critiques the previous RBC Canadian Open, describing the Osprey Valley course as “a disgrace” and detailing a 5.8-unit loss that week, with Sam Burns' top-20 finish as the lone success. Despite the setbacks, he praises Ryan Fox's recent success, highlighting the Kiwi's two playoff victories in four starts and his historic Canadian Open win, the first by a New Zealander since 1968. Doctor then shifts focus to Oakmont's rich history. He recounts notable U.S. Open wins, including Tommy Armour (1927), Sam Parks Jr. (1935), and Ben Hogan's record-setting 1953 season. He emphasizes Jack Nicklaus' 1962 victory over Arnold Palmer at age 22, which kickstarted Nicklaus' legendary career. Johnny Miller's final-round 63 in 1973 is labeled the greatest round in U.S. Open history, despite not being the lowest score ever. Further champions like Larry Nelson (1983), Ernie Els (1994), Angel Cabrera (2007), and Dustin Johnson (2016) round out Oakmont's storied hosting record. At 12:00, Doctor begins his betting picks. He endorses Scottie Scheffler (+350) as outright number one, citing dominant recent wins and past experience at Oakmont, where he missed the cut by one in 2016. Bryson DeChambeau, with a futures ticket from December at 14-1, is lauded for his driving power and improved approach play, though his recent accuracy issues raise concern. DeChambeau claims Oakmont is “the toughest test in the world right now,” and Doctor remains confident in his form. Rory McIlroy is passed over due to a poor performance at the Canadian Open, including erratic driving and uninspired play. Doctor quotes Rory discussing his struggle for motivation and interest in hobbies like tennis. John Rahm, however, is preferred in a head-to-head matchup (-133), praised for his polished game despite recent putting inconsistency. Doctor argues Rahm is better equipped than Rory to handle Oakmont's demands. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are also faded. Xander's driving accuracy is flagged as a season-long weakness, and Morikawa is critiqued for losing strokes around the green in five of his last six starts, rendering him unfit for a major requiring elite scrambling. Ludwig Åberg is highlighted as a top Nordic pick at +180, benefiting from strong recent form and inconsistent competition, with Joachim Lagerlund identified as his main threat. Doctor names Hideki Matsuyama as top Japanese player at even money, emphasizing his elite U.S. Open history and the weak form of his countrymen. Outright picks include Scheffler (+350), DeChambeau (14-1), Brooks Koepka (18-1, faded due to poor form), Keegan Bradley (100-1, riding strong recent finishes), and Cam Young (150-1), who's gained strokes off the tee and on the greens recently. Young's playoff qualification over top names and his form earn him sleeper status. Two fantasy lineups are provided. A DraftKings build includes Rahm, Åberg, Spieth, Bradley, Young, and Leishman. The PGA Tour lineup features Scheffler (captain), Bradley, DeChambeau, and Young, with Åberg and Leishman on the bench. Doctor predicts a winning score of -3, depending on weekend rain, and offers Cam Young to finish top 28 at +320 as his best bet. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
